Just back from a nice walk. Lots of people out there today. The heating pad seems to have done the trick, as my back is feeling fine. Much better than last night when I could barely walk. All the stiffness is gone. Got to remember to keep it only on my back.
The paint on my wife's car has been curing for over 48 hours now, so I can sand and polish that tonight. She's happy to see her car looking good again.
I watched a good story about the Pacific Coast Highway last night on Modern Marvels. I'd never seen that episode before. The bridges and the scenery are spectacular on that road.
Modeling the Baltimore waterfront in HO scale
I watched that episode also, very, very interesting. Travelled that a number of times. I thought the quote "California the amusement park of natural disasters".

Wow, I'm interested in that storage area. I take it that you are going to be able to see the sub-levels just by squatting down? How big is that tabletop, and are you sure you can reach everything to model? I see what looks like a single access hole there, but that might be going around a house jack, as far as I can tell. That looks like a fun layout to navagate.
Wes
Wes,Yes the storage area, and Helix will all be visible by squatting down... I got the idea because Fife said he would hate to damage the walls in the trainroom... so I had to find a way to store the trains that weren't running... and wanted a FUN way to store them and still be able to run them. There will be a few access areas, the large grey box closest to you in the sideview is a cutout where a coal mine will sit, and there will be a large access panel where the town is located. The rear of the Helix will be on casters so it can be moved out of the way so the coal mine access panel can be reached. This is the trainroom:
it looks like you will use up all of that space! What is that, 12x18ish?
I'm still contemplating on how build to build the train room. As I have posted a couple times before, I have a 11.5' x 21" room in my basement at my disposal, but I might split that in half to make a separate train room and a musical instrument room. I have a set of drums that are in the closet now that I would like to set up...but I don't want to go too small. Your layout is definately busier than mine will be...Wes
I just got home. I ran the 2343s last night, and they run great. Smooth and powerful throughout the speed range. I won a second 2500 series aluminum passenger car last night. Now, I just need a 2531 observation to complete the set.

Are those motors loud, Jim? Mine run on FasTrack, and boy are they loud!
Jim,
They don't seem overly loud, but they aren't quiet either. I really like the growl that they produce. It sounds great and powerful. I can't wait to complete this set. I've always wanted those aluminum cars. I've got big plans for Christmas time this year. Once the Christmas tree goes up, check out photo fun each Sunday. I will be taking a lot of pictures throughout the season. I've got some suprises in store for Christmas day photo fun...
Speaking of noise, Jim A, how did your experiment with 'stuffing' your Fasttrack with foam bode? Personally, I haven't an issue with the 'roar' from traditional 027 track, but it's certainly a different magnitude from the Fasttrack (based on my single subjective experience at a local hobby store.)

Doug now you mention it my trains did seem louder at the hobby shop when I was in VA as to whenI ranon my O27 and he has foam to quiet it down some I think the fast track makes the trains louder.

Can't wait to see those holiday photos, Jim!
Doug, I did a stretch of the inner loop with latex caulk and a stretch of the outer loop with soft insulation. No discernable difference between the two. I chalked it up to a waste of time.
Keith, I've changed my game plan. No more battery powered campfire. A battery powered fire in a 55 gallon drum is easier!
Brent, I got your train cars today.
Jim
Evening All -
ANOTHER event filled exciting day here in "tramaland"
- Start off with a small earthquake this morning, located near Thousand Oaks. Noone hurt or damage, fortunatly.
- 50 mph winds in the High Desert area (less than 50 mile from the tunnel crash) creates sand storm resulting in 0 visibility. 4 killed over 18 cars and trucks in chain reaction accident.
- 2nd accident 20 miles further north, 2 more killed another 12 cars in another chain reaction accident.
- Public transportation safer? NOT, a Ventura bus driver (muncipal bus line), takes the last passenger on the bus to a seculed area then rapes her.
I'm going to the Train Room, no more news or radio, seems like armageddon.
HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GREAT AND SAFE EVENING !!!
Don B - that's what I thought too (traveling too much) - hey, I see you guys had a big pile up on another highway this time from a sandstorm! Man, bad week in CA! Aside from the 10 days in Baltimore, another 25 days of travel X 2 or more times a year was too much. Sorry again guys - we'll get together some time.
Jim (SP) My sister is the training coordinator at work (a little nepotism doesn't hurt!), but she doesn't like the traveling either.
Emailing with a buddy and remembered this means that we can put up the halloween layout, so need to get moving on it. Doug Wallace already has his done!!!!
Please say some prayers for my co-worker, Tammy. She had an anyeurism in her brain yesterday morning and they operated today. Thanks guys!
Sir James, John, Chief and everybody else, come on over. Nick, I have 3 Buds in my fridge and they are nice an fresh this close to The Source! Plus, icecream, chips or cookies - pick your poison boys!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Sorry, Don - you posted while I was typing. Too bad about all those killed!
I ran the BFOC earlier - no pile ups on my circle of track!

Don, sorry to hear about the mess out there... hopefully things will calm down some.Susan treadmill arrived today... she's happy I got it setup. I had to take a couple hours to relax and step back from the bathroom - I was close to tossing an M-80 in it and just dealing with the aftermath... who ever heard of putting underlayment in with construction adheasive AND nails... all you need is nails... so the toilet room is an even bigger mess than originally thought...Susan's father's radiation seed procedure is tomorrow... so much for getting any work done at work... hope this takes care of the prostate cancer and he lives a long life...Got a call when I got home from Susan's Uncle... we are planning a joint b-day party for Susan's Aunt and Susan next Sunday... sounds like I now have another deadline for the bathroom... I just hope I can get it done... maybe I could hire some of those tree guys Chief called...
