Morning Don, I have a tombstone company behind the house across the street and one on North Main [once owned by the man who built this house and the pond]. What would you like engraved on yours?
The saga continues: Early this AM, his garbage cart was still out by the street. Suddenly it was gone. The big fall colored bow that Pam had put on our mailbox post was in shreads and on the ground. All at the same time. Now who did that? Shows he has brain damage. That is the kind of thing kids do. Wife wants police to come and get large pieces and finger print them and then him. I am laughing.
Think I will work on backdrop. Later

Let's see, when is your wife due back, shall we all kick in a few bucks on, oh how about a 5 or 10 mill $ insurance policy, sounds like a pretty good investment with a real quick turnaround.

So many roads, so little time.
Sure seems to be a lot of fretting and concern goin on. I don't see any problems here. I did think about it a lot last night, and came to the realization that instead of just a transition tunnel, a helix would be much better and more effective. Will provide more trackage.
Speaking of tunnels, I'm surprised noone has commented about the tunnel accident out here. It is on Interstate 5, (google interstate 5 for news story.) Accident occurred at 11:00pm Friday night. 23 semi trucks, and 1 car. 3 People killed. Fire started in tunnel, and has burned until Sat. night. Fire was so intense above 2,000 deg, that tunnel damage is of grave concern. This tunnel is a truck bypass which goes under the Interstate. All lanes both directions are closed until at least Tuesday. Which is optimistic pending tunnel inspection. The route of course is the primary artery between Los Angeles and Bakersfield, and all points north. It is extremely heavy on work days due to commuter traffic into LA. What a mess. One human aspect, one of the truck drivers called his best friend from his cell phone, and told him he was just involved in an accident in the tunnel on 5, and he is trapped in the cab. He also told him he thinks there is a fire breaking out he could smell it. And asked for the friend to call his wife and tell her and the children (2) how much he loved them. No one has heard anymore from him. The wife and kids have maintained a vigil at the scene since. Really sad!! The tunnel is about 1/8th mile long and is reported that the trucks were essentially all jack-knifed and sideways in the tunnel. Traffic yesterday southbound was rerouted 80 miles west, then 3 miles south and then back to 5. According to news this morning 1 of the dead may be a child. And the one car was at the tunnel exit when the accident started. No reason given yet as to the accident cause. Apparently they will have all the vehicles out today. But come Monday....whew there are not any close alternatives (less than 50 miles, and thats a 2 lane road) and there are around 225,000 vehicles that go throught per day.
Got to get to work. Later
Don
Good afternoon from a grey and soggy Crystal Lake where I got to go to my train show and wander five buildings of hundreds of vendors with my fellow train enthusiasts. I left church early to drive down to the fair grounds - took me longer than I thought to get there. This is an all-gauge and other railroad stuff but Lionel was out there the most. I bought some stuff to trade if the opportunity arose. After a few hours of wandering and covering every place, I just bought a Lionel C&O operating track maintenance car for $15. I've always wanted one to work on my phantom overhead cantenary. I looked everywhere for Thomas and his ilk but didn't see much that made sense - pretty overpriced. Maybe I have to go back next month! There were lots of American Flyer for Jim S. And tons of parts. I saw some nice Ives cars I can now visualize.
That accident sure was sad, Don. I like your extension!

Don, Not to worry, Since we have met Kay, we are both sure she will be completely understanding and will heartily agree to the new trackage arrangement. Of course you might find sleeping in the garage a little uncomfortable!
HI GIZ,
Closed down the ponds today. Cut all the lily pads, got rid of pond lettuce, 5 wheels barrows of pond plants. Pulled out the pumps, UV lights, cleaned them all up put them away till April. Now my electric bill won't be so high. Put PVC pipe down and placed net over pipes. Refilled all the ponds, fish are happy. So is wife.

Doug, is the show you are talking about the one at the DuPage County Fairgrounds? In the early 1980's I attended a big show there and I always wanted to go back.

Sir James: I'm saving up for that one, both time away, and $$! Not easy I'm eyeing a few things on the Bay...and this month's $$ spoken for on track for the Christmas layout.

Evening all
Been off the pot since Friday been busy. Saturday rented a plate compactor to pack the gravel. Worked great. Best $35 I’ve spent in a while. In two hours had the pad packed harder than I expected. Started the forms. The floor will be ~ 6” thick. Working OT Monday, help pay for concrete!
Got Gabe the Lamplighter Saturday. Grandkids love it. Now figure where to put it on the layout. Got some ideas and while I’m wiring I’m going to put the crane on also.
Bride is down with a cold, so I’ve been a little extra attentative. Grandkids came up after church and we played outside, really nice day.
Don-Nice “solution” to your space problem, I wonder how long it would take for my bride to notice a tunnel through the closet to the ajoining bedroom.
All take care and may God bless
Jim
Evening all. Did get backdrop/divider cut and blue sky on one side. Police visited the neighbor. Denied knowing anything about the ribon on mailbox post. Policeman saw sissors [what was used to cut up ribon] sitting on the island and knew he was lying. Told him he was sure getting ready to be ejected from Town if he didn't behave. Told policeman he was mad that I mowed his grass the other day. Funny, he usually thanks me. He kept mainly in hiding most of the afternoon. Town Board members told me [I called and visited] to get Town Atty to legally get him gone. We'll work slowly and quitely, then he will be gone.
Later.
Just got done running trains for an hour. All ran great NO PILE UPS. The new WEAVER, L1b runs smooth as silk NO PROBLEMS since it was fixed. Watched the PATS beat up the COWGIRLS BAD.
All be safe.
Keith!!! ROFL!!!! That was great! Don - my wife thinks that you made a great choice there - NOT! She is afraid you really scratched the hutch up! Good luck on the doghouse!
Well, I'm am TIRED. Put up about 10 feet of castle-brick wall at my friends' house. It too a while to get the first part just right as it went down 3 courses from the patio. Still need to go back and cut a couple of the bricks - forgot my brick saw blade The rest is just a decorative border and main problem is leveling it to the patio and keeping it straight. We kept creeping in closer to the patio somehow. When I go back, I'll take some steel track with a couple holes cut in it and we can peg that down to serve as a guide - that will speed things up considerably!
Fifedog - Do I make you ? Well, do I baby? (Austin Powers accent!)
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Brutus, I always wondered about you and Fifey...
Clear October day out there today. 39 degrees when I left the house. Expected to hit 61 before the end of the day. Another day in paradise.
The kids and I played football yesterday, and I fixed John's bike for what seems like the ten thousandth time. The chain keeps coming off. I pulled the rear wheel way back this time. Those boys are hard on their toys!
Watched some football as well. NE vs Dallas. Also watched some of the Seattle game.
We ran trains and played checkers and air hockey too. Yesterday I started applying latex caulk to the screw holes of the FasTrack on the inner loop. The 2343, our loudest locomotive, seemed to run quieter on the inner loop than on the outer loop. The outer loop has the fluffy insulation. Hmmm...
Saturday, I painted the wife's car. It had some scratches that wouldn't polish out. Yesterday I sanded down the new paint and polished it. Looks factory new. Can't tell I was ever there. I'll do more as the weather permits.
Other than that, I don't have much to say.

44 and cool this morning. WOOOO HOOOOO YORK week be there on Friday can't wait. Hope this week flies by.
All have a good one.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cool 50 degrees. Sun starting to come out. Going up to a sunny 77 degrees, today.
Today is a busy day. I have some chores to do around the house. Need to start putting away the outside wind chimes and lawn decorations. Hate to do it. That's a sign of cold weather coming. No time for trains today.
Third game of Indians / Red Sox tonite, from Jacob's Field. Go Tribe.
Dining Car has arrived and it's time for breakfast. Later.
Y'all have a great Monday.
Chuck
Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps near 80. Dbaker, I like your thinking and creativity, but I have a feeling your line may soon file for abandonment on the new extension. I did see the headlines on the I-5 wreck, but I had not read the details. That is truly sad what happened. Chief, I hope you get your neighborly issues settled. Buckeye, congrats on OSU being number one. With the number of upsets occurring this year, who knows where any team will be at the end of the season.
It was a busy weekend. Friday night mowed the yard and went to the YMCA. Watched three hours of TV ("Deal or No Deal", "Moonlight", and "Numb3rs"). Saturday did some housework, reffed an 11 AM soccer game, had lunch, went to a local craft show at the elementary school and book sale at the library with the wife (bought a nice railroad book by Lucius Beebe), reffed a 3:30 PM soccer game, and came home and got cleaned up so I could out with Lucas and some of his friends to help celebrate one of his friend's 18th birthday. The dad of the birthday boy drove so I did not have to. We went to Hooter's in Greenwood, and then to Border's bookstore. Watched a little of the NASCAR race, which Jeff Gordon won. Sunday went to church, went to the YMCA, ate lunch and went to a choir concert that Lucas was in. They have a new teacher this year and it shows in the much better singing. Drove around the Honda plant and got some Halloween "stuff". Put up the Halloween decorations (including some new orange lights for the outside, really looks sharp), helped Lucas with an English paper and watched "Desperate Housewives", which was really good.
Dining car had bran muffins from "Points East". I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
PS There was an article in the weekly magazine that comes with the local newspaper about "Facing the Giants". I think one of the forumites was involved in this movie, but I cannot remember who. I was telling my wife that I knew of someone involved in this, but would whoever it is please refresh my memory? Thank you.
Morning fellas...Well the master bath took a major hit in the completetion category this past weekend. Friday when I got home I finished installing the hardiboard on the shower and tub, by then it was time to get ready to go to a company dinner. Saturday Susan, FiL, and BiL headed North to the Pocono Mtns for a wedding. On our trip up we decided to take 'The Scenic Route' from Baltimore we took I-83 N to I-81 N, to PA Route 209 E... now this took us through the middle of the Poconos, through the Lehigh Valley (PA Coal Country), points of interest include Tamaqua, PA (Reading & Northern Scenic Railroad has restored the Tamaqua Railstation and now runs tours from there to Jim Thorpe, PA through the Lehigh Valley Gorge), Pottsville (Home of Yuengling Lager), and Jim Thorpe, PA... now Jim Thorpe sits at the BOTTOM of a valley where three valleys converge... there are 3 roads into and out of town ALL 2 lanes (one each way), every year at this time the towns folk decide to SHUT DOWN THE CITY for their fall festival... do you THINK they would put signs up? HECK NO! Took us 1 hour to get through town... not to fret Brent demanded that we leave early to we wouldn't be late! Brent did screw one thing up... he left the camera in the trunk and couldn't get any pics! So to make up for his debacle Brent made sure the return trip included a detour to Shartleville, PA home of the largest indoor minature village - Roadside America! I took some 30 photos of the display (which includes 4 trolley lines and 6 mainline train tracks)... and of course I forgot the flash card on my way into work this morning, along with Susan's coo-coo clock that I broke 2 years ago and still have yet to get fixed... !I'll try and get pics posted this Sunday for Sunday Photo Fun!OH! Almost forgot... I also met a fellow Baltimorian O-Gauger at they wedding. He helps run the Ellicott City Volunteer Fire Department's annual Christmas Train Garden. I'll be meeting him on Friday morning at York by the Orange Hall...
Mornin' boys. Sunny & pleasant here in the Mid-Atlantic region today. Watched far too much football yesterday, and didn't get a lot accomplished in the train room. Gonna have to push back the date on the GOLDEN SPIKE BEER FEST. Perhaps I'll be up and running when a certain "Show me" state inhabitant comes to town.
Brutus - Let me think about it...no.
Jumij027 - Good thing you didn't have a busy day...
88 - The station in Jim Thorpe is very picturesque. Were those CNJ F-units parked nearby? I had been wondering if Roadside America was still running.
4 MORE DAYS...

When you got off the interstate if you would have went west on 209 for about 30 minutes you could have came to Millersburg and stopped in. Millersburg is the end or beginning of 209.
Oh well.
