I'm a transplanted Yankee in Jacksonville, FL, have been here 40 years. Was born and raised in North Girard (now Lake City), PA 15 miles West of Erie. Dad worked for the New York Central and Penn Central for 46 years. NYC mainline was on our back property line, originally 4 tracks. Now 2 main tracks. In the days of steam could see 4 trains at once as often as 4 times an hour. Pennsy had trackage rights from Girard Junction, West of North Girard to Dock Junction on the West side of Erie where their line went down to the lake front and a power plant or two so saw big steam from both railroads. Have always been fascinated by bridges and have always been intrigued by the coal handling accessories that Lionel made. Got my first Lionel train in 1948 and never totally gave up on O gauge while I went off and flirted with HO and N gauge because thats what the Gateway Model Railroad Club in Jacksonville ran. The re-issue of the Bascule Bridge brought me back to Lionel O Gauge big time.
Living in Pennsylvania and having a coal furnace,we learned early on the difference between Bituminous and Anthracite coal.
Thanks to all for you kind comments abouth the pictures.

Question about posting pictures. When you click on the picture, you are supposed to get a larger version. The 19 pictures I posted today don't do that. What should I be doing or not doing.
Mel,
If you put the cursor to the right of the picture and click it you will get a much larger view. When this pops up hold the cursor on the picture until a square box shows up in the bottom right hand corner. If you click that box it will make the view even larger. I wish I knew how that was set up, but it makes great pictures of your bridge. Hope this helps.
Ken
I copy / pasted this view. If you click on this it will enlarge.
Bionic Woman was pretty good! Chewy got some potato chips So she is happy, but wife says "No no no!" to me!? Oh well. I think she meant no more chips for the pooch!?
Chuck M - glad you are Chilling again! Sir James, good luck on your wife's test. Read that a Batman special effects guy got killed . Glad to hear that the bad guys didn't get that CSX train! I might go to bed early, so you guys help yourself to the leftover cupcakes I found out behind the diningcar!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

kblester, Mel,
It does kblester. Did you figure out what Mel did? Take a look:

See the "th_" before P1010003.jpg in the first two? That stands for "Thumb." Mel accidently posted photos in thumb nail size.
..........Wayne..........
Wayne,
These were not my photo's. I was trying to help Mel with a series of pictures he posted of his bridges (previous page). Thanks for showing me why they can come up in different sizes.
Thanks, Ken

Ken,
Oh. While I was trying figure out the tiny photo puzzle, I forgot that Mel was having the problem. My apologies to both of you. I edited my post. Did I get it right this time?
Cheers

Maybe I got that all wrong. Your photos now enlarge when I click on them. Did you fix them?
Hi All,
Mel- Thanks very much for the info and pics. I think I'll go with the swing bridge if I can fit it in the space as I have seen some good deals on this bridge. Need to play around with RR-Track a bit more.
John B- No, Our trampoline did not find fame on TV Though it nearly cleared a 5 ft hedge! Hope you manage to blag some extra space for your layout at your new Northern residence. (I'll have to be careful using the Northern term. The Chief will get all twitchy.)
Made some more progress on the garage. Nearly have the garage fully painted inside. Quiet a bit more wiring is now in place in the gamesroom.
Have a good day all

Hey Guys! I didn't mean any harm when I mentioned 'Red Necks' it was the way some of you picked on the grit chewers that gave me the wrong impression. Before this I thought Red Necks were a band of WW2 fighter pilots in an old John Wayne Movie.
Spoke to the Chief this morning on my new mobile/land lines. Have the same problem as Fido, have to get up at 4.00am too but the days of the outside privvy are over-thank goodness and the thought of a hot dog at that hour is a bit daunting. You must love that pooch Chief! It was a pleasure to talk with you, subject to cash flow I will call again and try to call others over time.
Going to Sandbach market today, lunch at McDonalds, yes 68 yo and just got a taste for the Mac. Never too old to try new things.

HI GIZ,
Got some t storms last nite. Still humid and to get some more rain this after? So GOLF against bro is on hold?
HAPPY FRIDAY EVE!!!!
All be safe.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cloudy 64 degrees. Going up to 73 today, with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms.
Today, I have to drive up to Cambridge, to do the weekly shopping. Not looking forward to it. Prices are still high. Gas is at $2.80 a gallon. Looks like that is where it will stay. All the prices reflect the fuel cost.
One more week before the train show. Looking forward to it.
All cooling systems worked good last night. Slept much better.
Dining Car has arrived and is serving breakfast. Later.
Y'all have a great Thursday.
Good morning all,
It is raining (!) again in SE Indiana with temps reaching the 70s today. The humidity never did go away last night and so no train running. Probably won't again tonight as there is a home soccer game for the boys and I have to go to the funeral for a friend of my dad's. Sounds like some of the people on the pot are enjoying the trials and tribulations of teenagers and dating. Lucas is still seeing girlfriend number three. I am not sure what the connection is, but at least her folks treat him decently. Also, he got a good grade on a math test yesterday.
Got some interesting news yesterday. Husband of older daughter is ok, but he got spun around by a semi (which did not stop) and then T-boned by another vehicle. All involved are physically ok, but the pickup he was driving is in not too good a shape. They want to borrow a vehicle from us for a while, but the wife and I are not too crazy about certain aspects of that idea. We will see.
US Women play Brazil today for the right to advance to the gold medal game. Could be a good game. Watched enough of "Dancing with the Stars" to see Helio advance. We had cereal and cinnamon rolls on the dining car from "Points East" this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Wayne; You had it exactly right! I went back and changed the entries as I wasn't happy with the small thumbnails. Thanks for your help.
Nick; One other thought about the swing bridge. If you look at the close up of the bridge resting on the pier, you will notice a little bump in the tracks. I was space challenged and had to but the bridge too close to a curve and sometimes have trouble with derailments.
Hey all
Nice pics, Mel!! Love dem Bridges. TrainWorks has a swingbridge on an operating layout(I'm there on Saturdays) Should stop by and see it!
Well, it looks like it rained here at work, nary a drop over at the abode. Very weird. Should be 90 today and after the rain here, should make for wonderful humidity.. at least the remarketing department is having luch for the dealership buyers (which means I eat free!!). Got my Conrail stuff then found out that I need 2 cars to complete the set. I got 1 Alco powered 1 dummy (looks Tuscan & gold) a sleeper & a observatory car. Just missing the dome & coach.... and the search continues!! Should I take 'em out of the boxes and run them or just let 'em sit.....problems,problems.
All quiet otherwise
Rich

Morning all. Got this call at 4 AM. ???? Could Mom be sick? Frankie [on 2 PM to 2 AM shift] had problems [shot someone or got shot?]. Then this REAL English voice [not some Yankee garble] says, "Chief." I knew who it was. My bud John Baker. Was great to chat with him while the boys [dogs] ate their hot dog breakfast [their Mom started that years ago]. The oldest [8 yrs old] has to go out at about 3:30 to 4 AM each morning. Then he insists on his breakfast. Well anyway, since I was lost for words , John's phone bill will be a lot higher than he planned. Was good to talk to the Chap.
Now off to Mom's down east. Back this afternoon. Later
GOOD MORNING:
Cloudy 60s/72 today, did get some rain yesterday and it was gloomy all day. Never got to trains yesterday 2 yr. old screamed for his mother the entire time she was gone. I couldn't get him to stop so just let him scream by the front door. I figured if I could hear him he was ok.My son say's he does the same thing to him if she takes the older one and leaves the 2 yr. old at home.
Brutus-I left the cupcakes on the front porch with a bag of chips.Someone else must have stopped by. I wonder who. Sir James

Good Morning,
Well yesterday wasn't a real fun day. Went to the dentist office as a follow up to the root canal of last week. He removed a the crown that was on the tooth, and then determined a SECOND one was required. That's twice in two weeks I have been deceived by them. First time a simple cleaning, then a followup. Definetly no fun! And when I think of the cost, I could have bought one of the best new engines for this price! Moral of this story is do not tell your dentist he is like a mechanic! Revenge is tough.
As a result did NOT go to train club, Chris and I went to a movie instead. After dinner consisting of grilled cheese sandwich. Saw Good Luck Chuck, based on the previews. MISTAKE! There was quite a bit of really explicit gross stuff inserted. Really unfortunate, the movie basically was funny, but the gross stuff didn't add anything, and detracted from the experience.
Going to get some measurements this morning for a couple of bridge/crossing supports. And take them to a local sheet metal fab shop on the way to work. Hopefully pick them up tonight. Will also see about some pictures (per request).
Chris and his girlfriend going to LA County Fair, this evening so on my own. Want to get the engine yard, and industrial area layed out, hopefully tonight.
Wife is currently in Altoona, IA (I thought that was supposed to be in PA?) they have about 350 miles to go, should be there today. Superior Wisc.
Comments:
Chuck - Your right, about the home cooking, but she's only been gone 1 week, probably 4 more to go. Congrats on the A/C, might want to check that heater out, just in case.
Chief/John Baker - That's fantastic! Another relationship developed as a result of the forum. This place is great!
Mel - Those pic of the bridges are truly fantastic!
Ken/Wayne - Following the dialog thru the picture viewing was very informative, thanks
Fifedog - I too have been trying to watch the WAR, will need to get the last empisode on the replay. I have learned some interesting facts I was not aware of. (BTW, glad I have a boy, lot easier)
Colin - Good to hear from you.
Have a great day!!!
Don
Morning all
Overcast in Southern Ohio. Got a little rain yesterday, everyting still dry.
Great bridge pics. The mechanisms are really neat, thanks for the pics.
Chuck-Glad you got the A/C going and having cool nights.
Sr James-Leting the kid cry is what I don when the grandkid starts in. Amazing how long it can last till the kid figures crying won't work on you. Now when she starts, it does not last near as long. You are right, when it gets quiet, someting is up.
Off today, hope to get a few things done, homework for class, clean up garage, and some dirt moving. Did sleep in and caught up on sleep. Needed that.
Chief Marty and others who had loved ones on the mend, how are they doing? Still praying for 'em.
May God bless

Good morning all!
Back from DC and doing my part keeping our country safe for democracy.
Another long trip last night in a very crowded airplane, plus we took off 30 min late...
No time today to catch up on the 'Pot. Hope all are well or on the mend!
Regards, Roy
Doug, the moon here was huge and full yesterday. Kinda yellowish, too. I didn't see it today. I thought it was some kind of omen, as my 10th wedding anniversary is today. It's been 3 of the most wonderful years of my life.
I thought of you last night when I was at the train store. They had a Thomas set boxed for $159. I thought you could do a lot better, price wise.

Good morning all...again,
US loses to Brazil 4-0 :-( That was not just a loss, that was a good, old-fashioned whipping. Ouch!
Happy Anniversary Jimmy!
Our 10th is comming up mid October!

Rich; You are so right about our weather in Jax! We may have already met at the Train Works. That is my Local Hobby Shop. Dave and Rose are super folks. They keep finding the stuff I ask for and make me spend my money.(Ha,Ha). Dave and Chet were the ones that did all the work in my dining room. Dave has some pictures in the display on the counter.
