We have so many Buckeyes that we don't have room for them all, so we send some south each winter.  Many of them are packing to head home so they won't miss the fun this summer at Cedar Point and fishing in Lake Erie.   Another reason that Buckeyes are imported into Florida, is that we speak English without an accent.  This means the Canadians and the Hispanics can understand us as most of them are living in Florida, too.   You notice that there are not many Michiganders in Florida. We won't let them drive thru Ohio.  Laugh [(-D]

Sigh [sigh] Thumbs Down [tdn]  Picked up some potting soil and worked in the greenhouse potting seedlings a while.  No trains today.  Got a call from Don and we discussed his coming trip to york.

Doug, Use a set of screws with a pair of spring loaded "wings". Insert the plastic threads into the drywall, then screw into them with the screws. When the screw goes through the wall, the wings splay open and create an anchor that cannot be pulled out easily. I used them to hold up a 65Lb wall desk, and it did so easily for 10 years until I took it down to move. They are available in most hardware stores.

Toggle bolts probably are the best bet.  You could also move the rods mounts inwards towards the 2x4 that holds the window in, so you hit a stud.

Doug,

It's nice to hear an update on ol' 999.  I know it'll never be scrapped out now...just great to know it's still alive and on display.  Unfortunately what Pennsy donated is a far cry from the Empire State Express' original design.  First to be modified was it's high steppin' 86" drivers ( the ones you see in original promo pictures of the later 19th century era ), cut down to 70" in 1899.  A more extensive refit happened in 1905 with an all new boiler of different design.  NYC even renumbered it in 1913 to # 1086.  Ten years later NYC decided they had done this engine a great injustice and restored the modified remains as best they could but by that time the only thing left of the original was it's main frame.  At least somebody had the forethought to save what is argueably the most famous speed record engine....and IMHO the most beautiful in it's day.

You could try using toggle type braces to hold up the curtain rod.  They usually come with a machine thread screw long enough to do exactly this type of fix.  In their collapsed position they can be pushed through your already existing holes in the wall then once the screw is tightened they open behind the wall.  Kinda hard to explain but they are much stronger than plastic expanding plugs.  They are meant for attaching heavy objects where no stud in the wall can be found.  Hope this helps.

Good morning from a spring-like Chicago where it is sunny for the moment and a balmy 42. And my co-workers wonder about the strange coffee-spitting-out noises coming from my office whilst catching up at the Pot! Whew, that's quite a day of posts to read.

Well, I took the brood to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry yesterday along with every other family within 50 miles - what a zoo! It is my favorite museum. Speaking of veterans, the new U-505 exhibit is wonderful - imagine going down into that sub whilst it was sinking!  It was good to see my old buddy Engine #999 - talk about high drivers. My youngest spent the most time in the steam engine cab donated eons ago by the Pennsy. It was full of small children pulling at the Johnson bar and turning valves. The SMARTT layout in place of the old O gauge one was truly impressive - even though it is in a weeny scale. They have a full-size Chicago cable car and horse car I forgot about. Some of the old 1:48 scale models on display - a C&NW doodlebug comes to mind - pale in comparison with modern issues. I was rooked out of taking a Zephyr tour at the end of the day.

Dr. John, I'm starting our men's group on My Utmost for His Highest tomorrow... wish me luck - he's sure spuzzling sometimes.

Hellooo from Cloudy & windy Florida.....(wonder if its like this in O-Town?)

I finally got 3 loops running, had my new CNJ BEEP with the Sunoco tankers & CNJ caboose, my NYC Flyer with the appropriate NYC consist. Likewise the Pennsy Flyer with some of the PRR box cars & passenger cars.  Using my CW80 & KW, all 3 run pretty good.  The fastrack is nice, but I may throw in some tubular track.  Fastrack is VERRRY 'spensive.

I gotta line on a TMMC C&O engine & tender for $300.  It was purchased and put away, then the gentleman died.  my LHS is getting it for me.  So, we'll see what we'll see.

If I can get my camera running I may show up on the Sunday Photos.

'til later

Good Morning Y'all,

In the process of getting the kids fed.  Can be quite the chore.  We have DIY on with Bob Villa.  Kids seem to love the building shows.  Perhaps I can use this for future help with the layout.  Now, if I could just get them up to speed with wiring, I will be set.

Hope everyone has a great day, and please Chief, wear some respectable clothes.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

Good Morning, Jim....You are absolutely right.

It's a sunny morning of a cool 37 degrees. Going up to 72 today. Mostly sunny.

Today, they are going to put down the new kitchen carpeting. I will believe it, when I see it. Have to move a few things, but nothing heavy. I will be glad when this is over with. Wife is excited about getting a better carpet, down in the kitchen. Old one is too light colored.

I have not done anything o the layout lately. Haven't had the interest. I guess that will pass and I'll be down there working. I need some quiet time to myself. That's a good place for it.

I had a nice call from Chief last evening. It was good to talk to him.

All aboard for the Dining Car. I need to eat a good breakfast. I will save some for " points west ".

Y'all have a great Friday.

Good morning all,

It is cooler and cloudy in SE Indiana but temps are supposed to rise to the lower 70s today.  Boy, you sign off here for a couple of hours and you miss a lot.  The pictures of the Chief are an absolute riot, and the comments are great as well.  Tmcc man, good luck at your train meet.  It was another busy night at the home front.  Worked on the mowers, got gas for the car, did weights at the YMCA, met with a program person at the Y to set up my schedule for reffing some soccer games and mentoring one of the teams.  The pay is not great, but they deduct my membership dues off the bill so I get a little "train" money as well.  I figure I am going to spend an hour there any way so I might as well get paid for it.  Tonight is Lucas' drama club show, and maybe I will trim trees this weekend, weather permitting.  Time for the dining car to head to "Points East".  Hopefully everybody there is getting their appetite back.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning from the mouthy one in New England!

Supposed to be a very nice day here weather-wise, and on into the weekend.

We ran our Santa Fe El Capitan set last night after a good track cleaning.

Beakfast with the Easter bunny tomorrow morning! Can't wait...

Hey, all you lucky guys going to York. Be on the lookout for a 2034 shell in nice condition. By nice, I mean minimal scratches and both marker lights present.

Have a nice day, everyone.

Chuck, hang in there. Each day will be a little easier than the day before.

Good morning evrybody,

The good news today is that it's Friday! I am looking forward to the weekend for sure. Our school closes for spring break for the next 2 weeks. I plan to take some time off but when I do work it should be nice and quiet.

CHIEF - It looks like big news out of Buffalo today. There is going to be an announcement about building a Bass Pro Shop as part of the waterfront development. I was wondering if that means that down the road at grand opening time if we will see you in our neck of the woods.

Have a good day all.

Need to get the lawn mowed, but it rains a little every day - Angry [:(!]  Oh well!  I'll need a machette at this rate.  In the 70's every day and seems like maybe we won't get that last ice storm we usually get after my wife's birthday.  No time for trains this week so far, maybe Saturday....
