I think the secret to saving money is to only use 027 track with 27" curves. That restriction will pretty much eliminate anything over $500, practically saving you thousands!
I guess you could always buy a Chesy & Ohio 2-6-6-6 and park it permenantly on a siding, but what fun would that be.

Upon reveiwing your plans for the O layout I have determined that there are a couple of glaring errors. You are missing 2 very important spur lines. One that services the bar top area and another in front of the control panel. Deliveries to and from these spurs would warrant priority over just about any other train running. I also see other connected industries such as tooth picks, swizzle sticks and coasters adding to your railroad revenue. Not to mention the shipments of sliced limes and olives!
No need for timed operating sessions either. You know you're done when the yard is full of empty bottles, cans and cocktail glasses

Bruce,
Very astute observation!! Actually, the spurs are hidden by the elevated track drawing. There is a four foot spur behind the bar that runs in front of the Pass Through kitchen window. That track will accomodate large scale gondolas (cashews, etc.) and a custom flat car. The flat car has drink holders mounted to it. The siding by the control panel is 6 foot long perpendicular to the control panel near the window. This accomodates an extended storage area supporting those extra long runs.

Evening all,
Nice quiet day. Worked on the 644 brown hoist crane, all cleaned up and waiting on parts from Port Lines. I saw some pictures and between the pictures and the instructions I understand the rigging. From what I see from the picks of other 644 and 944 on the bay, most brown hoist cranes have the rigging messed up.
Once when I was in Baton Rouge, I had crawdad pie, that was intresting, it didn't replace peach pie as my favorite.
Chief. the spots being removed, from fishing too much without a hat? I've got a few spots that the docs watching too. Had we known when we were younger and go figure, kids going to tanning booths, oh well, can't tell them anything at times.

JOHN just got done checking out his web site.
Nice stuff. JIM where can I get a couple of those BATMOBILES do you sell them or is there a web site out there somewhere? Keep up the good work.
Speaking of the Batmobile...
I had the pleasure of meeting George Barris last year at a car show I attended. As you might know Mr. Barris was the creator of the Batmobile, the Monkee Mobile, the Munster Mobile and Grandpa Munster's Dragula, all of which were there on display. I knew Mr. Barris be attending so I took a couple of "Junkman" movie posters for him to sign. Mr. Barris was featured in this movie. Junkman was the last movie written, directed and produced by H.B. Halicki before his untimely accidental death. Halicki is better known for making the original "Gone in 60 Seconds".
Anyhoo, George was somewhat shocked and pleased to see that 24 year old poster, an item he said he didn't have. So I gave him the other one...after that I had no trouble getting him to come over to our car and sign the dashboard.

Mitch, you can easily test your wife's tolerance for the leg lamp. Put it in the front window and insist on turning it on when you go out. See what happens! If the lamp survives...
Very cool batmobile and I love the link - check out the cool Lost in Space Jupiter 2 models, too. Jim, you've got Mad Skilz, boy!
PS- My wife is sick now, so maybe I'll have to take back all those crawdad remarks....
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good evening,
Has anyone checked out the Lionel and K-line catalogs on line? Not much in the Lionel for me, but some interesting items in the K-line.
What does everyone like in the new catalogs?
John, you know me - I'm all over that Halloween stuff. My kids (and I) are really excited for that handcar and those operating cars. Don't know what to make of that RTR freight - I've already got the Halloween chase gondola. I wonder why they didn't release this with the steam locomotive they had in 2005, just as a RTR set...? I want that Lionel Lines Dockside Switcher for my lumber outfit - all my log dump cars were LL's so I've been finding other cars in that line to fill it out. I think I want that RTR Old West set with the Lincoln logs, though not the expansion.
Anybody notice the lack of metal trucks in many of the car descriptions? I recently bought a car on ebay from a breakdown I think of a Target or other store set from this past year. Anyway, the trucks are plastic and very light, even if the couplers apparently work (need to test them!). I much prefer the heavier metal trucks. I'll watch for that in the future. I'll add some weight to the cargo load on my car I bought, but I would probably not buy another like it. It's a blue flat car with high ends and holes for stakes, although they didn't include the stakes with the car. They weren't in the pic or description, so can't complain though.

John : I only have had time to check out the K-line catalog so far & I like the Diner, the Plymouth switchers, the boy flying the control line plane, the super streets, well better stop there !! I don't think I can get it all !! I do think it is great though !!
Jim Fortner : hope your wife isn't too sick & gets better fast.
Oh, I think Chucks email is down tonight, but works through the forum !!
csxt30 wrote: Jim Fortner : hope your wife isn't too sick & gets better fast.
Thanks man, she is thinking of going to bed, but watching Made in America right now. Barely ate anything, too.
Good Evening...........
I got the benchwork done on the extension. Switches are in place. Coming out of the mountain with tubular and going to Gargraves thru the bridge and passenger station. Uh Oh....ran out of Gargraves. Have to get some more. Have to make bend with Flex GG to go thru 100 year bridge.
Boy, this is getting serious. Back to engineering dept.
Good Night All.
Hi everyone. John, much to the shagrin of my bride, I just got the last piece that I had been waiting on from the last Lionel catalog...The Lionel Lines caboose with the trainsounds/tmcc, etc. Very cool piece. After perusing the new catalog(s), I am happy to see the watchman's shanty and plan to order that along with some of the figures. I also like the NYC rs unit with tmcc. One thing that I wish they included in the K-line offerings would be the woodsided reefers that they had. I plan on getting some of them, either at the trainshow this weekend, or from my friends in NJ.
I actually had the patience to wait till late this morning before looking at the catalogs. I must be getting slow in my old age. While I am very excited, I have to curtail my enthusiasm because I am still on Train Restriction.
I do have a question. The engine that is shown in the Lionel Collector's club advertisement, is that part of membership? How do you go about getting one?
Thanks,
Evening. Did some more wiring. OH, the switch that was giving trouble. Something internal. It was using the siding track as and extended anti-derailing section of the switch. Took the train off of the siding and it worked fine. Fixed it. Bent the pins back and put electrical tape between the rails. Cleared the problem. [still defective but works now] Works fine. Siding is fine as it has its own lockon. Next project. Separate the two loops and the sidings and put them on their own buss block. Then run them from separate transformers.
Dennis, do you have trains running on that layout? Guess I will have to go to GA and get it finished. [see what you get for teasing me]
