Wes Whitmore wrote:Somewhat similar to what I am going through on my install. How wide of a shelf are you going with?
The shelf width is 15", to accomodate two G Scale Ovals. The large purple box in drawing below is a Bar, the Yellow Circles are Bar Stools, and the Purple Circle is a Pub Table.
(Bench top layout will be the area to the left of the bar, perimeter, peninsula, and lift bridge/gate)
Will have to address the "sunlight" issue, but fortunately the biggest concern will be reflected light off the pool. I don't anticipate a big problem.
Yep, Robby Gordon is from this area, a park is named after him. His family recently moved to Orange County, Now living in Newport or Laguna Beach not sure. Definetly like his attitude!!
Don
Mitch!
Not feeling well at all - took some Milk of Magnesia, hope that clears things up soon.
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
So with that 45 degree cross, you won't be able to let either train operate on it's own, unless you remove a train completely, right?
Do you plan on doing any scenery on the shelf? I'm always looking for new ways to do things.
Thanks,
Wes
Don, from my experience, Doug Murphy's Laws will focus on that 45 degree crossing. In fact, Doug will go into hyper-drive to make sure the biggest wreck ever to occur in southern California, will be at that crossing. Take it to the bank.

Maybe 4 switches somewhere along the line would be a better move?
Afternoon all,
Looks more like a 22.5 degree crossing but then Doug's law still applies.
Don,
Weren't you doing O gauge originally? Did you do a 180 and go LGB or is this a second layout?
Happy Birthay Mitch!
Jim...hope you're feeling better real soon.

Back from NYC and the Grand Central Terminal MTA Museum Annex Lionel Layout (how's that for a mouthful?) diassembly, packing, and shipping back to Texas until next Christmas.
Took the F line subway over to Brooklyn Saturday to take a look around Trainworld/Trainland. Shelves were a bit bare I guess due to the holiday selling season. They have a big warehouse next door, but not much out to look at. Oh well - I will see them at York in April where thay have lots o' stuff to peruse.
Sunny and cold here - about 43 at 1:30 pm. Might rain a bit tonight or tomorrow. Keep it coming. One of our main water supply lakes has risen about 6 feet in the last two weeks (lake was 65% depleted last month). Only 10 more feet to go. Need about an inch of rain for each foot of lake level.
- Mitch -
Have a great afternoon all1
Regards, Roy
Afternoon everyone. Busy day here and it seems like it is raining outside....tough to tell from within the depths of a big building.
Mitch................is this one we can tease you about?
Anyway, hope you have a wonderful day.

Frank....are you bored ??
My March issue of Classic Toy Trains arrived today at 4 p.m.
Looks like an interesting and beneficial issue. Nice cover except for a couple of homely old,gray-headed geeezers in a boat. Cover story and photos on how to make water? --by Kent Johnson. At first I thought it was a medical story on prostate challenged old geezers [including yours truly].

Good Evening Everyone !! Boy, I got some breaking news for everyone, but first Mitch !!
Ok, now for the other stuff !! I recieved a package today from my good friend Jim Apitz !! All I can say is thanks, Jim !! I never thought he would outdo me with such a treasure !! This thing is absolutely gorgeous !! It's a Corgi Batmobile & even has Batman & Robin in it !! I've been trying to get some good pictures of it for here, but I'm having trouble remembering how to use my camera !! Anyway, thanks again Jim !! Everyone on here is special, too !!
Now taking Center Stage at the Eagleville McDonalds !!
Also, they paid a visit to The Diner, too !!
Here's a not too good close-up Of The Superheroes !!
Gosh, thanks again Jim !!
Thanks for the kind thoughts, guys! Yeah Keith, I'm feeling a great deal better now. Watched a bunch of 60's/70's vampire movies (Jean Rollin), an old Jess Franco movie (She Killed in Ecstasy with Soledad Miranda ) and Die Schlangengrube und das Pendel (German dvd from Amazon.de - has an English soundtrack too, released here as Castle of the Walking Dead with Christopher Lee). Nice to be able to watch whatever I want with the kids at school. Groovie Ghoolies - I kinda sort remember this show! They played music, like a band right? I don't have that one, although I do have a lot of Scooby Doo dvds from the old 60's show. The kids have some of the newer shows, but they are not as good - esp since they now run into real ghosts and monsters. That just isn't right in a Scooby Doo cartoon - it should always be old man Eagles trying to scare kids away from his beaver sanctuary!
Meanwhile, I've been on the laptop working on rr tracks software. I need to move some track just a little for my new sawmill. I decided just to put the bunk car out on a single piece of straight track, maybe glue some "bushes" to the ends of the track to hide them. I think I can run a feeder wire to it easily to operate the lights and smoke, except that the kids hate the smoke smell. It might be hard on dvds/electronics anyway (?)
LAZ 57 Check out this auction goto pics and read the description in the pics its a NYC ALCO A
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=230079232048&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=013
They say nonpower in titled but box says powered I think they used the titled from the other NYC alco a they also have listed which is a dummy
This is a K-Line K2114 New York Central Alco A Non-Powered Diesel Locomotive. Features include dual motors, quadra grip, metal chassis, portholes with lenses, full front coupler cowlings, 2 operating couplers, an operating headlight, roller pickups, accurately detailed AAR type B trucks, 3 position forward, neutral, reverse controlled from the transformer and it operates on AC power.

If those superheros don't steer clear of the fast food joints are your layout, they're going to be renamed FatMan and Blobin.
brwebster wrote:Looks more like a 22.5 degree crossing but then Doug's law still applies. Don, Weren't you doing O gauge originally? Did you do a 180 and go LGB or is this a second layout?
Yep, you guys are all correct, Great opportunity for Murphys Law. However this, is what I was thinking. (It is a 22 degree crossing)
I have 2 LGB trains that will be up there. The primary advantage is that they alternate from front to rear track, adding a little variance for viewing. Secondly, the obvious cost differential as compared to four switches.
As I was thinking one would have to be cautious with the switches, of course there would be less risk, assuming that the non-derailing feature is operational. Now with only two trains running there is 70 linear feet between the two, assuming that they are they make a complete revolution. Now if I make the entry point into the crossing a seperate block with a toggle switch control, I can stop either train prior to entry. Also if one is running faster than the other I could stop it for distance allowance. And all that is based upon two trains being on the track. With one train no issue.
Regarding the question about O gauge, yes that is the majority of the inventory, but do have the LGB General, a Heisler log train, a LGB Christmas train, and a 32 Ford truck that runs on the G Scale. The Track height is 6' 10" high.
Finally, I thought if I was having a issue with disastors, I can come back in with the switches
Cool Batmobile! Also, missed it before, but welcome back Roy - sounds like a successful show and teardown. Don - sounds like it will be a cool shelf layout! Keith - I used to love the Archies cartoon, as well as Josie and the Pussycats, then J and PCs in Space, The Hair Bears, Hong Kong Phooey (I think this came out on dvd), and on and on. I remember watching the old Spiderman cartoon as a kid before they took them off the air as well as Johnny Quest, too. We counted one time and we had over 1200 dvds (no including multiples - like we would have counted a season of Wild Wild West as a single dvd). I'd bet we're at about 1800 now. BTW - There are 3 Doris Day movies coming out in about 10 days, including Move Over, Darling, which is a family favorite.

Good evening all,
Allow me to join in the general congratulations. Happy birthday, Mitch. May you have many more!
Keep on training,

What about window tint for the poolside train room? They have came a long way with protective films, and not obsceure view of the pool. Between tint and shades, you may be able to protect your layout.
Later
Jim
Evening all,
Can't believe the number of posts since I last posted.
Don, Us Northeasterners would love to have your problem, glare from the pool.
John, Love the batmobile.
Can't remember 1/10 of the posts so will call it a night.
Tired. Been wiring switches in the walk-in. Had to pull all the wires. Ran a number 12 buss type common and hot around the benchwork. Then removed enough insulation to solder on jumpers to feed to each switch. Running them on aux power. Then had to extend all the controller wires and hook them up. Wired one inner loop with off/on switch. Can run trains in there and shut them down without shutting down the inner loop. Can build trains in there too. Notice the switch was causing the TMCC and engine to shut down when backed out slowly. Ran tow trains out and suddenly it wants to act as if a car is tripping it to the siding. Then the switch motor shut down. Traded with another one, does the same. Not the switch motor but the switch. Will mess with it later. If it does not staighten out, take it back. Chalk it up to MTH quality. Removed the aux power wire and manual move it now. Its real close to me standing in the door. Will be some trouble to remove as it is tied to the main line and etc.
Microwave Popcorn time. Later.
BTW: our buddy Don Baker set me up with a new and upgraded printer. He didn't make a dime off of it. Told me where to find it and order it. THANKS
