Evenning all.  Got one Realtrax switch fixed.  Pulled one and installed a new one [got spares to put in and then I can work on bad one].  Could not get it to snap into straight section.  Cut the tab off that slides under the rail end on the straight section, snapped right in.  The reason the new track sections and switches will not mate [a strong man could not get it to go] is the plastic tabs that slide under the end of the outer rails is too thick.  So any of yuz giz going to York this fall, look up Mike Wolf and tell him the Chief said take his track and especially his new switches and go to ----Evil [}:)]!!!  Disapprove [V]  Constantly having to pull the new runs of switches out and repair them.  I even had a section of track today that, when screwed down, would lose connectivity.  Well, all three connectors on all sections were soldered together.  Go figure that one out.  Poor Chinese quality and poor MTH quality control.  Miss Edna sent one switch back to MTH.  The magnet in the swtich machine just came apart.  Love the looks of the track, quiter that any other and, when working right, best switches.   Hey, I noticed I've got some switches that are darker gray than the others and the track?????

Did post the Soundstop job on the Sunday Photo section.  Glad to get the drop down working.  The 3 layers of Soundstop helped smooth out the transition from table to drop down, back to table.  Also did NOT cut track like before.  Cut the tabs and connectors off.  Makes a smoother ride.

Good night.  BTW: John S, do we have popcorn lung?  I do cough a lot.  Dr. said she thought it was allergies.  ?????

I've been to Empire. Isn't there a big canoe livery near there.  In fact, I have been all over the State of Michigan, even the western U.P.

Aristocraft and LGB are both good quality.  If you buy Bachman, you will be sending it back for repairs.  Every Bachman I own has been back.  Aristocraft track is good too, but here used to be a problem with the switches.

Chief your layout is looking real good now !! Nice pictures everyone had on SPF !!  I read that popcorn article & seems like it only affected 1 guy . I really don't have popcorn but maybe a couple times a year, tell ya the truth. I just like to kid around about it. A guy told me long time ago that something about pallips or something it isn't good for. I can't remember now but I kind of only have it once in a while now after he told me that ! I think he was talking about the colon, not sure.  Hope Dennis sees this, maybe he will know !!

Well, hope everyone had a nice weekend !!

Evening gents.  Just watched Jurassic Park on dvd - hadn't watched it in a long time and it's still super!  Noticed no posts from Colin lately?  Or John Baker - what's up English?  Nick is up to his knickers in wires I'm sure.  Sure do enjoy reading all your posts guys - even if I forget to comment on them mostly.  Burned The General onto a DVD to save it.  Also Tivo'd some other Keaton movies so will watch and burn them probably.

Ps - 88, nice cars!  Those rims are sharp.

Beware the Ides of March, Caesar!  Wink [;)]  In Wm S's play at least, Caesar's wife was one sharp gal.

Wife tivoed a show about a family with 16 kids going on a trip to the coast in an RV.  Man - I can't imagine having 16 kids!  Talk about Yours, Mine and Ours!

Laz - my favorite wrestler is and will always be Rowdy Roddy Piper, "I have come here to chew bubblegum or kick Censored [censored], and I'm all out of bubblegum."

CSXT30/John S - we've got Ben and Jerry's icecream.  Don't think that icecream causes polyps (?), but no really great food is good for you is it?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Morning to All.

Fresh pot is on.  Made a trip to visit wife's friend yesterday near DC.  Our son took the Metro and met us for dinner.  Very nice time. Today is one of those dreaded Professional Development days.  Well, I have a lot longer commute today to go to this training, so I better get going.

Have a great day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 62 degrees. Going up to 80 today, with maybe some sunshine later.

Today is another busy day. I have a bunch of errands to run and will be making stops for a few hours.  Have to drop the wife's cat off at the Vet. It's a typical Monday. Don't think I'll have time for trains today.

Tomorrow is the scheduled TOTTSGEOTST.  Looking forward to it.

Indians won last night. Still in First Place. Maybe playoffs.

Dining Car has arrived. Breakfast is served.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Good morning all,

It is foggy in SE Indiana with temps in the 80s again today.  It is supposed to cool down this weekend, but I doubt it.  We finally did get some rain this weekend, which was greatly needed.  I am still bummed about the weekend.  I had such high hopes, especially when Manning qualified eighth, that maybe a good result would occur.  They dropped the green flag and he just went backwards.  It will be interesting to see what the website says went wrong.  On top of that, there is a rumor Manning may go to Andretti-Green Racing.  ARRGGGHHH!

I started working on Lucas' math homework last night so I could help him with it.  I think I can do it, but it has been too long since I darkened a math book.  Fortunately he is doing well in Earth Science and my wife is helping him with English.  I no longer worry about him getting into college (that ship has sailed), but now I just want him to graduate high school.  Maybe he will work at the library the rest of his life?!?!

I have been reading most of the posts, but my memory just is not good enough to comment on any of them.  There were "bonus" donuts on the dining car today.  I hope everyone has a good day (including me).

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' boys.  Foggy & humid here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Didn't get to watch any football yesterday.  And I won't get to watch the RAVENS/BENGALS match tonight, as I'll be at work.

Fortner - 5 kids beat me up mentally.  16 would put me in the looney-bin.

cheapclassics - Let's see, that's Franchitti, Hornish, and Carpantier adding to Stewart, Montoya, Robby in NASCAR CUP.  "What in the wide, wide, world of sports is going on" over there in open wheel land...?Confused [%-)]

Chief - I'll try to get you an answer on those switches next month.

Phila - sent the pic to your email address via a pic message.  Then you can download it to your PC and then upload it to your hosting service!  That is how I did the pics of the Bimmer.  It is a pain, but not difficult.

Kurt, Brutus - Thanks.  The new rims are a bit lighter than the old ones, are 5 spoke vs 7 spoke and provide more airflow therefore keeping the brakes cooler and somewhat reducing brake dust... so far.  Since I was sick all weekend I didn't get to wash and wax her, she really needs it, but so does Susan's Bimmer (silver is starting to look dusty tan).  I'll try and do her Bimmer tonight since she is taking it on a trip on Wednesday.

Buckeye - thanks for the info!  Always good to hear how some things are 'easy' fixes.

Got a call from Home Despot yesterday.  The new vanities, mirrors, and shower door are in... so I have to go pick them up this Saturday.  Then the next project starts - master bathroom remodel!  This is going to be a fun one... removeing all the tile, patching the walls, installing new vanity faucets, roman tub faucet, shower handle and head, laying new tile, rebuilding the tub riser, and thinking of having a plasterer come in and doing venician plaster on the walls... the last part is a surprise for Susan, just have to make a call today.

Laz - Brutus Beefcake!  LOL!  We were talking about 'old' rastlers the other day at work... Brother Love, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Iron Shiek, Chief Jay Strongbow, SGT Slaughter, Andre, King Kong Bundy, Kamala, George 'the animal' Steele, those were some great entertainers.  The roid problems in wrestling may just ruin it, very sad.

Chief - We have a hear o' deer that have been hanging out in our back woods.  Nice 8 - 10pt buck, 6 - 8 does.  Too bad I don't have a rifle or shotgun... Sad [:(] Of course Susan would be devastated if I were to shoot one.

Fifedog,

Sarah drove in the NASCAR West series for a year and did not set the world on fire.  The sad part is that she does have talent.  She set the world record for a half-mile in a midget at Winchester, and Danica has done no better than Sarah in terms of best finish (2nd) or start (1st), and Danica has had a lot better equipment.  The IRL has got to do a better job of hanging on to its talent.  Of course not all of the open wheel drivers have set the world on fire in NASCAR.  Gordon and Stewart were the last two to be good from the get-go.  Montoya has won a couple of NASCAR road races, but outside of Indy, has not done well on ovals.  Neither Franchitti nor Hornish are going to the elite of NASCAR, so they may struggle for awhile.  After running up front for many years, they may quickly tire of saying they had a "top 20 car" week after week.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

My Dr. said that is why I do not have colon problems.  Fiber.

Mike C, don't worry about Lucus going to college, if he is "made for it", he will go.  If not, OK.  My son did not like school and finally went to Community College for Law Enforcement.  His two sisters went.  He is as happy a they are because he is doing what he loves.

Was real sore last night.  I added loading big chunks of rock on the tailgate of the truck and hauling them down the hill at the pond to the Saturday's tree sawing.  I am filling in a big hole at the dam where muskrats [no longer there] had made under a tree.  Will do the same today as will take several loads.  Can't seem to get any of you young guys to come and help.

Hope everyone is having a good Monday so far. Pleasant morning in central Alabama but supposed to get warmer today - mid nineties, then get cooler later in the week.

Chief & Dennis - Remember the depot in Prattville I showed you? Looks like someone's about to do some work on it. All of the weeds and brush have been cut down and I saw a couple of pickups with carpentry tools parked there this morning. Maybe someone bought it to restore. Hope so.

I'm enjoying my new truck. Today I do the part that's not so fun - buying the tag, paying the taxes and the insurance on it. All part of it.

Well, back to work and a fresh cup of coffee. Staff meeting's in half an hour and I've got a newsletter article to write.

Good day to all!

BRENT, I just got done remodeling my bathroom.  Got my stuff from Home Depot too.  Wife went with the swanstone shower walls and floor, bathsink in Swanstone, new vanity, new toilet, new med cabinet, new tile floor, new bathdoors, new paint job, new fixtures, and then all those little accessories, and plumbers time, total came to about 5Gs.  Ouch glad I did the work or it would have cost another 5gs.  Could have bought a few engines with that?

RASTLERS, LOL, use to watch a circut from FLA. was called IWA Wresting.  Great entertainers,  ERNIE THE CAT LADD, IVAN PUTSKI, BIG TEX, THE ROAD WARRIORS, BLACK DIAMOND from parts unkown.   This was in the late 70s early 80s all great.

Good morning from a grey but warmish Chicago where it is just another Monday -- but one where I have to pay the 2nd installment of property taxes...

Kurt, I've seen that Aristocraft set at St Aubins Nursery - the engine is smaller than you might think but ran well. Can't beat the price in the CTT ad.

Jon, thanks for the info about Cedar Falls - I will look forward to visiting that hobby store when we go out there...

Mike C, I hear you - I'm reviewing math every night with my middle boy. Btw, there's lots of future options for Lucas if he ever wishes to pursue college as an adult.

Rich, I'm disappointed Junior didn't make the Chase... Martin Truex did and he's allegedly using the same engines...

Laz et al, I enjoyed wrestling's characters in the 80s - Hogan, Piper, Sgt. Slaughter. My middle boy still loves the WWE - he watches their show every Fri night.

You Philly guys are awesome....don't envy your job, though.  Tough city, tougher than NYC I think.

Good Monday Morning to all!  Overcast here but temps to get to the 90's AGAIN today.  NEED RAIN!!!

Finally decided to tough out the heat and worked in the garage on the layout yesterday.  Put down a loop of Gargraves track.  Just put in a few screws at the curves for now.  Just had to try it out this morning.  Used one of the Solderless connectors from Gargraves and connected it in only one place to a spare CW80.  Track voltage was 18.6 to 19 everywhere I tested.  Wondering if I need to run more power drops???  Ran several engines - slow for now since track not well secured - all ran great.

Chief - I remember you talking about that cough when you came by here last spring - think you mentioned your blood pressure medicine - of course allergies could be the problem now as it is so dry and the ragweed is sending lots of stuff into the air.  However, I would have your Dr. think about changing your BP med.

-AND - I think John was talking about polyps in the throat - not the other place!Whistling [:-^]

Hope everyone has a great week!

Good Morning & almost afternoon Everyone !! Probably work even later tonight since they are taking 1 guy off the switching crew tonight. Brainy CSX leadership !! That should give me even more overtime now till they figure that out ! That conductor already told me it will take way longer to do that amount of work, with one less guy now. That's why I tried to sleep later today .

Oh, Chief, or anyone, is popcorn fibre ? I never knew that !! Maybe I can have it more often now !! Laugh [(-D]

Well, sure hope Chuck & Buckeye have a nice OTTSGETS tomorrow !! Big Smile [:D]

Yep !! Coffee's great here Fife !! Smile [:)]

Howdy Lisa.  Glad you are back.  Just cleaned my track for the first time in three months.  Never think of it.  Do not have running problems.  Maybe a good side to Realtrax.  I got lots of black marks on my hands when I was putting the track back down.  Made me think I need to clean it.  John S, did not know CSX had any brain power. Whistling [:-^]  Chatted with the Buckeye this AM.  He is off to the BIG wedding soon.  Wish all well.  Got tar and feathers ready and Dr. John on que [he will be in Birmingham AL].  Dr. John, great news on the depot.  Glad you like the truck.  I am trying to get wife to buy Four Runner.  She'll keep a year or two and then I will take it and she will buy sedan.  She is getting attracted to the BIGGER Toyato SUV.  Youngest has one [I think it is Range Rover].  It is nice!!!!  Off to the pond.

Unbelievable, I did exactly the same thing.  Wink [;)](I couldn't wait, had to see if anything would work!)  I have 2 gargraves straight sections secured, and a 14 foot oval connected to them, then have about 18 switches (ross) just setting on the layout (connected by track rails only).  Then a inner 10 foot oval, which has two cross over points, AND two Wye's and then about 12 sidings connected off the inner oval.  Ran 2 "alligator clips", too the DCS TIU, and have it plugged in to some circuit breakers, a even the TMCC module connected.  Hooked that all up to a ZW, and guess what ????   All the track works!!! In both TMCC and DCS, just from these aligator clips connected to one of the spurs!!!!!  BTW, I have about 13 illuminated passenger cars setting on the sidings, and they ARE lit !!

I ran 2 big engines on the unsecured track, one on each loop last night !!  Was I amazed.  And very little of the track is secured.  It WAS a hassle running all over and manually changing the switches though !! Laugh [(-D]

So here's too you, (JD or your favorite), AND THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE !!  GUESS WE ARE JUST TO NAIVE TO KNOW BETTER, HUH ??  Bow [bow]Whistling [:-^]

I have a wiring plan Ive been working on that has a BUNCH of power drops, and isolated sections, divide load up etc..  Wondering if Im crazy or what?

That would be the 'Land Cruiser'.  Nice, but way too big for Susan and I... we're looking at the Highlander or Acura MDX (depends on what the Fed gives back to us next year).  I actually like the Highlander more and it is quite a bit less expensive...

Glad to see Lisa post !!  I was working on my post when she posted. Thanks for the throat info !

Brent : I don't have that voltmeter boxcar, but I always did want to get one. For years I have this one caboose with a very bright bulb in it I use to run over areas of track I may be having a problem with, but I think that K-line volt boxcar would be a whole lot better !!

Thanks, John
