Probably ask them to come into his office, close the door, pull the shades, then commense to slapping them both around for a couple hours.  All the while yelling, 'WHO THE HECK DO YOU TWO THINK YOU ARE?  I RUN THIS COMPANY, NOT YOU.... OR YOU.... DO WE HAVE THIS CLEAR?'

'LET ME REPEAT THIS SO YOU REALLY HAVE IT CLEAR...'

Think that would straigthen them both out.  Theresa may have just written the first check that will lead to the demise of DEI, and that would be a sad day.  When the King passes, I have a feeling Petty Enterprises won't last too long either... Kyle does not appear to have much of a business mind.

I actually could see Tony Stewart leaving JGR and moving to DEI to get back into a Chevy.  He just doesn't give me the impression that he is a Camry type.

UPS showed up yesterday evening to deliver the last two of Susan's 4 tires (General Acclaims, nice looking tire with an aggressive tread pattern, they should do her well).  And my 5 new rims for the Bimmer... they will help dress her up nicely and hopefully solve the remaining vibration issue.  Heading to the tire place after work to have Susan's tires installed.  Hopefully mine get done tomorrow.

jaabat,

I wouldn't be worried about lifter noise.  It isn't harmful, just annoying.  Probe GTs also occasionally suffer from it, but it can be fixed.  You can go in and replace the lifter, or take the easy way.  Drain the oil and replace the filter, then put new oil in.  Leave 1 quart out for now.  In place of the quart you left out, dump in a quart of ATF.  Let the engine idle for 10-20 minutes, then change the oil and filter again.  This time, put the full amount of oil in that your owners manual specifies and omit the ATF.  I know this sounds strange, but everyone says it works.  By the way, I replaced the bad shell on the 2343, looks much better.

Jimbo, are you jerking me around? Because a few quarts of oil and ATF sound a lot cheaper than a new set of lifters and a cam shaft. The lifter is only noisy until the engine heats up. Then it sounds normal.

I just took a CTT survey on which cover to choose for the January issue, and offered my reasons why. I sure hope they don't do that for the February issue! Whistling [:-^]

or you could just say it's not the lifters, its the fuel injectors making noiseWhistling [:-^]

The ATF fluid in the oil is suppose to act as a deturgent and clean the engine.

What year is the Chevy and what kind of motor is in it? Alot of older chevys get a little tap and if it goes away it's not really harmful but over time (years depending on how you drive it) it might take longer to go away. Find out if it's deffinitly a lifter tap. If it is and you have a older Chevy sometimes you can take the valve cover off and with the engine running just slightly torgue the rocker arm down untill the tap goes away. Then back it off a hair. It's messy cause oil with be squirting all over but if it works it's less expensive then pulling the engine apart to replace a lifter. I always found out if you pull a engine apart that has high milage it opening a can of worms. Had a 69 Mustang head gasket went and I redid the top end and a year later the had to do the bottom.

When I say older Chevy talking about the 80's early 90's. But if it goes away I would leave it alone and just put a little heavyier oil in it. Motor Honey works good thickins the oil and makes it stick to the parts. Use it in alot of Harleys cause they are air cooled and the oil breaks down faster. Only thing is colder weather the oil gets thick and takes a little longer to get around the engine.

88 - DEI losing Jr was big.  Rumor has it that Coors may be sponsoring a DEI car next season (they already announced they won't be back with the #40).  I imagine that Coors would want a big name to occupy that seat, which would cushion the big money loss with Budweiser moving to the #9 team.  Could that be Tony?  Hard to tell.  He's being a good poker player right now.  He looked pretty cozy at the press conference yesterday.  Gotta believe JGR/TRD will throw a lot of money at him to keep him in the #20.  But with him and Denny Hamlin at odds, and a very volatile Kyle coming onboard next season, he might bolt.  Don't worry about Petty Enterprises.  King Richard (70) isn't a part of day-to-day operations, and they have some smart people in place.

Jim,

I'm not jerking you around.  Many Probe GT owners (and Mazda owners who have the KLDE or KLZE engine) have reported success. Ford put the Mazda KLDE in the 93-97 Probe GT, so that is why I mentioned Mazda.  I haven't needed to try it myself because my car hasn't developed the lifter noise.  It has about 186,650 miles on it also.

Well, I hit 1000 posts over on OGR today. That's it for me. I'm done. I used my 1000th post to tell someone who was asking for post war loco painting advice to go to the MTJ forum and I'd post it there!!! No, that was 999. Post 1000 was an attempt to stir their pot by saying I didn't understand the attraction to war toys like bombs or Nazi war models. No one bit.

Since I'm off tomorrow, and the Chief is careening around North Carolina in his pickup truck giving people the finger, I'm going to let you all in on a little secret. The horn in his pickup actually plays the same tune as the Duke's General Lee does! Honest! Laugh [(-D]

Good afternoon from a grey and muggy Crystal Lake where I am continuing an adventure helping the daughter buy clothes for school - we're a little slow out here. What a disaster! I overspent - bought everything she suggested which was mostly summer-weight stuff - not to be worn in the fall or winter - and got absolutely castigated when I came home. I give up. It all looks the same to me.

Jimmie, did you choose the CTT cover behind door #1 or door #2? I picked door #2 as more befitting toy trains... Hope the ATF fixes the lifter - what a neat solution.

I think Dale Sr. must be very po'd about this whole thing... I think Jr. is handling this with class.

John, there's a Garmin store on Michigan Ave in Chicago - I love browsing their gadgets. They're pricey though - congratulations!

Hopefully last visit (for a long while) to the eye doc tomorrow morn...

Hey, UPS just bought me a huge box - it's the new snow-thrower!

As to GPS, I wouldn't be without it when I get in the boat on a big lake or river.  Last year in Canada, we headed out fishing in a light rain.  We were catching walleye after walleye in the cool summer rain and then the rain stopped.  A dense fog settled in on us in a matter of minutes.  We could not see 15 yards.  As it was beginning to get dark, we fired up the Merc and started following the "breadcrumbs" on the screen as we navigated down the curving river.  Two boats, knowing we had GPS on board fell in behind us.

The wife has GPS in her car.  I love to use it to find train stores. Big Smile [:D]

The unemployment people called me to day and it was great telling them I'm going back to work.  A buddy in NE Ohio was laid off and is thinking of moving to Raleigh, NC area.  I told him that he could buy a mansion in Rolesville.

I have my first chevy in more than 30 years right now and I'm loving it . Bought it used but love the ride. Very comfortalble and I really didn't need 4 wheel drive where I was (may here time will tell) and I have the small V-8 think its the 4.6 vortec but tell you what she has the get up and go when needed and the gas milage isn't much different than my ford ranger  V-6 with a stick. and I know have auto transmission. I was getting like 18- 19 around town now get 17-18 and n trips was like 24 - 26 now 22 - 24 so can't complain and I now have a full size truck with extra cab ( 2003 ) had a 95 so move up in the world lol.

This just in from Gotham City - the Batmobile is on its last legs. I opened up the oil spout on the valve cover and saw a milky coating inside. Large amount of coolant missing from the reserve tank...Head gasket is gone, and with 150,000 miles on it, I don't see the point in getting it fixed. So off we go tomorrow to buy a new car.

I need to go lay down now.

good evening everyone.

Got the home theater installed and boy am I impressed!  This thing is great.  We are going to start watching all those movies that we have been collecting(after the kids go to bed).

Won a auction for a coal car with Choo choo auctions.  Also won one at The Train-station.  Gotta watch it or SWMBO will get hot under the collar.

As to car repairs, our Mercedes has 80,971 miles on it.  Started rattling at the catalytic converter.  Went to Mercedes service, they told me the warranty on that is up at 80,000 miles.  Looks like more change into the car repairs.

Have a great night,

Did someone say " Chevy " ??  Chief is driving one. I am driving one. Important people drive one. Good looking people drive one. Wouldn't you all like to drive a Chevy ??

The previous commercial was paid for by the Chevrolet Retirees.

Now...if a Chevy has a noisy lifter when it's cold, then you have an oil problem. The lifter isn't pumpimg up to pressure. Sounds like cleaning out the system was a good idea. The lifter will act like a solid lifter when not pumped up. It will make noise as a solid lifter not in adjustment. Take care of it soon, as you are wearing out the lobe on your camshaft.

Evening, everyone. It's been a nice day weather-wise in central Alabama. Almost fall-like, cooler with low humidity. Cloud cover probably kept the temps down.

Hope to go shopping for that Tacoma tomorrow. As to chevy's I've owned several and am currently driving a '91 S-10 Blazer. It's been very reliable. But the new Chevy Silverados are on the $$$ side and I don't care for the Chevy Colorado.

Dennis, I saw your post about Ameritrains halting production. I'm also sorry to see it but not too surprised. It's hard to spend hundreds for Marx knock-offs when the originals are still plentiful, easy to restore and pretty cheap. I did get the Ameritrains fueling station - a nice deal for under $30.

Off-day tomorrow for honey-do's, truck shopping, then a high school football game tomorrow night. Youngest daughter is one of the team trainers. Should be fun!

Good night!

Progs put out 23,000 in three shifts.(2 out die) They are the fastest in the world.  All old transmission is parts storage now.

Just had 4 General Exclaims installed on the wife's Bimmer... nice looking tires and they have rim protector ridge along the rims so that will hopefully keep her from scuffing the rims any further... having my rims replaced tomorrow... will post before and after pics... should make a nice difference as the old rims are 7 spoke and the new ones are 5 spoke (line up correctly with the lug bolts).  I don't know why, but I think the number of spokes should match the number of lugs - just looks better... no I do not count rivets. Wink [;)]

Chuck, I put some fuel injector cleaner in the Bimmer on the last two 93 octane fillups and she seems to be running better... so maybe that fixed her?  We'll see after tomorrow (also having Bosche Platinum IRs installed tomorrow - they have 4 electrodes instead of the 1 or 2 that are standard now-a-days), higher octance, clean fuel injectors, and more spark - gotta make a difference.

Friend of mine has a 1986 Ford Mustang 5.0, many many upgrades.  He has so much low-end torque now I can't lean forward when he lets her rip!  Fun ride... to bad it is a manual - don't like shifting. Sad [:(]

Was hoping to get a truck this winter, but with car repairs (wife's Solara is going to need tires soon) and all three cars needing brakes it looks like it will be next winter at the earliest... sucks because I need the truck to haul lumber for the train layout... looks like I'll be borrowing my FiL's pickup.
