Renovo PRR, Very nice of you.  I too have been blessed.  I hope everyone has a great weekend.  Trying to get #4 1" screws for fastening down the fastrack with the sill seal.  Went to Lowes, no go, will try Home Depot in the morning.

Dennis, good luck onfinding the screws.

Talked to Elliot F a few minutes ago.  Doing good.  Diabetic enough that he might have to take insulin.  The big C seems to be letting him alone.

Sure hope to get to paint my soundboard tomorrow.  Then I will take it upstairs and slide under the track.

Good evening all,

I see where I have really stirred things up and I am sorry for the confusion.  I posted early this morning more from emotion and less on the facts.  I will try to provide some background.  For almost the first 80 years of its existence, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway held one event, the Indianapolis 500, at first on Memorial Day and then when Memorial Day switched to Monday only, the Sunday before.  In 1994, the Speedway added a NASCAR event, the Brickyard 400, which is held late July/early August.  While some changes and expenses were made to accommodate NASCAR, the event was and is very successful from an attendance standpoint and I am sure the Speedway makes money on it.  Also, NASCAR was just as eager to be at Indy as Indy was to host a race.  In the late 1990s, Tony George, owner of the Speedway and a F-1 fan, started talking to Bernie Ecclestone about hosting a F-1 event.   F-1 had a whole string of expensive demands including some garages built to their specs adjacent to the pit lane that the Speedway had to meet that was above and beyond the construction of the road course.  A seven year deal was signed and the race even had a sponsor the first few years.  Attendance was fairly good the first year, but it was held on a cold, wet September day.  That alone probably hurt attendance the next few years, and there were other incidents that clouded the event.  One year Michael Schumacher lead the entire event and slowed on the last lap to let his teammate win the race, which really soured the crowd.  In 2005, there was the situation where 14 out of 20 cars refused to race due to tire issues.  There was a one-year deal signed for 2007 for various reasons, and the Speedway was hoping to negotiate a long-term deal for 2008 and beyond.  Basically Bernie and Co. wanted between $30 million to $35 million for a sanctioning fee and Tony was offering $15 million.  I feel that Tony offered the maximum he thought he could afford.  Bernie evidently feels he can get more from other countries who are willing to subsidize an event.  The Speedway gets no public tax money and has even refused offers of tax abatements so it can't really compete against an offer made by the government of India for example.  The bottom line is that a lot of money was thrown away by the Speedway in the investment of the garages.  The road course can be used for other events, and they will be having a MotoGP event in 2008 for motorcycles.  There is talk of maybe a sports car endurance event, but that is pure speculation on my part.  I guess what really hurts me personally is that 1) I really enjoy seeing the F-1 race, and 2) I hate to see the Speedway abused by people who do not respect the tradition of the place.  Even the NASCAR people as big and as popular as it is still defer to the traditions of the Speedway.  When Tony Stewart finally won the Brickyard, his dad said while that was great, Tony still wants to win the 500.    To sum things up, there will be an Indy 500 and there will be a Brickyard 400, but F-1 is probably dead in the US.

I appreciate all the comments and questions, and I again apologize for any confusion.  At the risk of stirring another pot (so to speak), I would just like to add that I am glad that some comments were made on the "Z" situation.  For about a day, I felt as if there was an 800 pound gorilla sitting in the middle of the forum that no one was talking about.  As far as I am concerned, I have suffered no harm, but I get the impression others have.  I always try to find a positive aspect in any event, and the outpouring of concern by all on the forum was heartfelt and sincere, and I hope that part of the forum never goes away.  I hope everyone has a good evening.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Brent - you won't believe this, but when I saw your post earlier with the layout plan, the top picture didn't show on my computer???  So, I thought you were going to just do a huge loop around the room (bottom pic)!  Weird - anyway, it looks great!  Can't wait to see pics of progress!

Could not avoid the opportunity for a few comments:

- Not even going to touch the statement about Dennis looking for screws. Evil [}:)]

- Regarding the Chief getting his soundboard -- That is good.  But why is he going to slide under the layout, wonder what HE is doing Confused [%-)]Zzz [zzz]Zzz [zzz]

- Wonder why the mayor's sex is of significance to Susan..... hmmmm Question [?]

 Seriously....

- THAT IS GREAT NEWS REGARDING ELLIOT, HOPEFULLY HE COULD GET BACK TO THE FORUM SOMETIME Smile [:)]

And finally, the Friday nite Chat was a bit bad, I'm not going back either.  Don't need it!!Sad [:(]

It is obvious that certain CA folks can NOT read.  Soundboard under the TRACK and not layout.  Earlier Susan said our problems with CC and Schoolboard and Town was we needed a woman in charge.  Well, that is the case and that is why we are having so much trouble [Mayor is woman and school Board Chair is too]. Wink [;)]  Just picking back at Susan. Laugh [(-D]

Morning!

Yes its 12:32 AM... I have nothing to do and can't sleep.

I decided to pop in to see what this diner is like. I usually hang at Elliott's trackside diner.

I'm not an O scaler, although my grandfather was. I remember 6,7 years ago, running trains with him in the basement. He only got two newer engines, the MTH K-4 and the MTH 2-8-0 consolidation, WM fireball scheme.

Well that's it for now... I'll be in later.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 58 degrees. Going up to 84, today, with sunshine. Rain, yesterday, was good for the garden.

Today, after the sun dries out the grass, I will be mowing. Looks like the back yard will come first. Need to get the gas cans filled. Yuk. The price has stayed around 3 dollars a gallon. Sure stops unnecessary driving.

I did some cleaning in the train room, yesterday. Ran the upper loop while I was busy. GG1 looks good , going over the blue bridge.

Glad to hear that Elliott ...is doing better.

Dining Car is here and breakfast is served. Be back later.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

Morning all

Nice cool morning in Southern Ohio.  Had the grandkids overnight, lots of fun.  We ran trains for a while, had a small pile up. Oops [oops] Real glad the American Flyers are made as toys and can take being played with.Blush [:I] Got a plasticville house for the All Aboard 600 on ebay.  The panel layout was really a neat idea.  Too bad it was too little too late.

Hoping to cut grass work in garden and cut friends grass today.  Bride working today so have time without distractionsWhistling [:-^]

Hope you're doing good Doug

May God bless

Morning all,

Got a pig roast tonight and we actually have a baby sitter!  I think this will be the first date my bride and I will be going on in two years.  I look forward to that, but it does mean that I will be busy today.  Have yard work to take care of and some picking up around the house.  We had a maid, but too many things would get broken.  Now I am paying the price.  We had more thunder storms last night and so I have to wait a bit before starting up the tractor.  I will probably get a little work done in the train room and then go look for some screws at Home Depot.

Chief, hope you win the Mayor's job!  For a guy who is supposed to be retired, you sure do take on a lot of work!

It was great to hear the good news on Elliot.  I hope his progress continues.

Y'all have a good weekend.

God Bless,

Dennis

MORNING FOLKS,

Cloudy and cool this morning, chance of rain we really need it but of course it's a grandson birthday party today. No rain here in weeks but probably today. I don't know if I should be happy for the rain or feel bad for the party. Guess I'll go with both. I do hope those on this forum that need prayers are feeling better.

Trains are at the ready maybe soon have to read the web news first

Well, today is track lighting day. One area of the layout is on the back side of the basement and is pretty low light. I bought 24 feet of track lighting and this should help. I plan also to extend an alley way siding that will allow me to couple up box cars with more ease.

Kansas City is hot and it will be good to take a dip in the pool after we grill some Hormel peppercorn pork tenderloin.

Well I'm a TCA member as of today. Now I am going to have to make it to York.

I don't have much planned for today but I may just work on the layout. I wish you all a great day.

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s and low humidity.  I posted too long last night about the Speedway that I did not have space about "normal" things.  I mowed the yard last night and the "new" John Deere broke.....again.  The self-propelled part of it quit on me about halfway thru the mowing.  I got out the older mower and finished the yard.  Fortunately the warranty expires next Wednesday so I took it to the dealer this morning.  I am going to my dad' s tonight to watch the USA vs. Norway in soccer and then the IRL race.  Manning and Sarah are in the back row so they can only improve.  Danica starts seventh.

I am glad to see the dining car at "Points East" is no longer self-serve.  I sent some cinnamon rolls again.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
