Fife - I told the landscaper to go all out... he sure did!  I think we'll be scaling these projects back just a little bit!  LOL!  Talk about sticker shock!  I did find a local supplier, and I can do the front and side walks myself.  I can't really do the front porch work (cutting pavers in half and then skinning the concrete porch), now if I can get the thinner pavers I'm set!  I also can't do the basement exit... too much digging and too much retaining wall laying... plus cutting through 8 inch poured concrete wall is pretty tough with a hacksaw! Laugh [(-D]

Jim A,
Please pass the Happy B-Day [bday] wishes on to Julia!  Did you ever finish HER train?

--------
Jim F,
Not sure I responded... but yes I received the check.  I have to sign it and deposit it... not like that is difficult as I have a pen right here and my bank has an ATM right down the hall from where I sit - on second thought walking is a bit of pain right now (still sore)... but I'll GIT ER DONE! Afternoon.  The Big Guy in the sod field [was a sod farm] is going.  It is becoming some big commercial thing as at intersection of US 401 and I 540.  Next to it is the Joyal Lane house.  Historical house and can not be destroyed.  Dates to Colonial times.  The Big Guy was on top of a building supply place that became an early Home Depot many years ago.  USe to hold a huge paint bucket.  When moved to present location, held a basket of veggies [sod farm then was a summer produce farm].  Jim A's joke was stolen from our good buddy from across the "pond", John B.

Redeye gravy is ham drippings [from frying country ham] with some coffee mixed in.  Good on GRITS, rice and mashed potatoes.

Got all my travel bags unpacked and ready to store.  Right now, DR. JOHN put this on your calendar, next trip out is August 16 [arrive] thru Aug 19 [fly back out] to Prattsville AL.  BPS grand opening.  My plan now is to attend one of his services on Sunday.  Dennis, pack the wife and kids and join us.

Next after that [OK Floridians] Miami on Sept 20 thru 23 for BPS grand opening.

Will be making two trips to Baton Rouge LA but no dates so far.  BPS and Cebela's grand openings.

Got home after all the "to do" with US Airways and looked at my CC bill.  Had a strange charge.  Called US Airways.  Have to go through Customer Relations for billing problem.  Could not get them as they answered, "Call back later."  Got to a Reservation Person in Winston Salem NC.  She got me through to a supervisor [in Winston Salem] who helped me.  Aske me if I knew a MS Metcalf?  "No and I do not think my wife would like for me to either."  She laughed.  After all was taken care of and I was hanging up, I finished by saying, "$15 charge, HUMM, cheap date."  This she really craked up on.

Buckeye is going to be gone and away from computer. Evil [}:)]Big Smile [:D]

Did get a little shower but need more rain.

Lunch time [home grown tomatoe sandwiches] and maybe train time.

Got the most god-awful cold on me, everythings running but the trains. Keeping the lid on it with lots of curries and mugs of hot sweet tea laced with Scotlands finest

Going to Edinburgh (if I'm fit?) for the Haggis hunting season next week, they need to be put aside in a warm room and left undisturbed so that they are nice and ripe for New Year!

Got the elbow from the dear lady last week, so I guess this cold is some kind of devine retribution for my bad behaviour. On the other hand the heavy heart is balanced by a much heavier pocket, saved a bomb.

One final irony, Smiley's done a bunk. (again!)

Buckeye, you forgot the most important Boston landmark - Fenway Pahhhk!

The Chief has been mysteriously quiet since his return home from up north...must be busy looking through all those real estate brochures he picked up here!  Whistling [:-^]

Have a great time fishing!

ABDIB Big Smile [:D]

The Chief hasn't said a word about the Muffler Man Historical Landmark just south of Roseyville.  Some people have all the great landmarks. Laugh [(-D]  I know Jim is jealous since he only has Bunker hill, the Old Church and Boston Harbor as historical landmarks.

Quiet today in Buckeyeland.  The NHL draft is being held here tomorrow.  I might go down to the arena for the first rounds.

Getting ready to head to Canada to go fishing. Captain [4:-)] This is my 11th year to head north with friends from Buckeyeland.  Needless to say, only two of us from the original four who went in 1997 are still alive.   For those that are interested you can see an old website about past trips at: http://www.geocities.com/algomafishcorps/   Click on the logo on the first page to enter the site and turn on your speakers.  In 1997 and 1999 we rode the Algoma Central to the camp.  For those interested in the train:  http://www.agawacanyontourtrain.com/index.html  On both trips we rode in the baggage car with the doors wide open.  One of the photos on the fishing website taken  in 1999 shows one of us standing at the open door.

See ya down the tracks,

Not really. He would have been in his mid 30's. But somehow I can't envision Mr. Rogers as a 25 kills sniper.

I know someone who grew up on the same street that Bob Keeshan lived on. He told me the guy wasn't quite the jovial sort off camera...

Off to another late start today.  Wife's at the gym, I am home with the kids.  On call, so I will head in a bit later.  Not much happening.  I see where the Japanese have changed the name of Iwo Jima to Iwo To.  This was the name prior to the invasion.  It is interesting in that I just read a message on Lee Marvin, the actor.  He was on the invasion of Iwo Jima as a  Marine.  He ended up winning the Navy Cross for his actions.  When questioned by Johnny Carson, he humbly tells the story of how he did it.  He then says that he was nothing compared to his sergeant.  His sergeant stood up when everyone else was pinned down and began moving guys up the beach and into battle.  "Bravest guy I ever knew" was his comment.  This sergeant's name:   Bob Keeshan.  For those not old enough to remember this name, perhaps his TV name will ring a bell.  Capt. Kangaroo.  I would post information here, but I am afraid the powers that be might prefere not.  Another guy mentioned in the email, a sniper from vietnam with 25 confirmed kills.  This is another unassuming guy who after the war came into all our homes and taught us kids.  Fred Rogers...Mr. Rogers.  And the reason he always wore long sleeves/sweaters, to cover up the tatoos on his arms.  He also had become a ordained presbyterian minister.  I guess the less here would be never to think you know someone, unless you really do.  Hard to judge when you have not been through what the were.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Dennis

Mornin' fellas...

Still tired... finished the second coat of paint in the dining room under the chair rail.  Replaced 2 outlets and 1 dimmer switch (had to make an emergency run to Lowes because the dimmer I bought was the wrong model - oops).  So now I have to repaint the wall above the chair rail because SWMBO doesn't like the first color she chose! Banged Head [banghead]  Also had to pick up new exterior light mounts because the wall light mounts are too short for the lights!  No biggie there! Smile [:)]

Tonight it is repainting the dining room, changing the last two outlets, and hanging the new dining room light.  Also have to replace 1 3-way switch for the kitchen (it is in the dining room).  After that, I'm planning to help the wife finish organizing the study.  If time permits I hope to rewire the speakers in the family room (wires don't need to be as long as they are and I have to make new wires for the 4 rear speakers).  The old owner put jacks in the floor so you don't have to run wire around the room.  Pretty nice setup.

Had a contractor at the house last night and he recommended putting prefab trusses above the new garage.  When the wife heard about this she said, 'Maybe you could put your trains up there?' Approve [^]  14 x 36 room!  We had this very conversation about a month ago and she said 'No way' back then... Banged Head [banghead]

The garage is about a year away, so I am still going to start the layout in the basement... gotta get trains running!  I just have to build it so I can move it and expand it!  Smile [:)]

Oh - got the bid on landscaping - Front of house, side of house, and new basement exit = $27,000.00!!!!  Landscaping the backyard = $45,000.00  OUCH!

I am trying to talk the wife into doing the front/side/basement exit this year, the garage next year, then the backyard landscaping the following year...

HI GIZ,

Beauty of a day here at 59 and to get to 80.

Another great day at laz CAMP only ran a 3 miler today.  Now for the weights and later GOLF against BRO.  Then the all important 19th green, no wonder I run.  To make room for more beer.

ZEKE, I hear you on your endevors in the ARMY.  Great job.  I've been doing it since college football days back in the 70s and now and then do take some time off or get an injury and forced to take off time.  But at 50.5 years old I figure maybe this is my fountain of youth?  Some days are better then others but thats life.

JIM F. like ZEKE said after doing it for a few days you kinda get hooked?

HAPPY FRIDAY EVE!

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s and a chance of rain later on in the day.  The team won another soccer game last night 3-1.  We had everybody there so we had lots of subs.  I played about half the game, which was fine with me.  This was against the team with the second best record so we are in fairly good shape for the rest of the regular season. We need to win two more games to clinch the number one seed for the tourney.  I saw the new grandson last night as well.  I see where the dining car arrived from "Points East" and it had some streusel on it this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 60 degrees. Going up to 84 today, with a chance of showers, later this afternoon.

Today, I have a few things to do around the house. I may mow the back grass this morning. Isn't growing too fast. I will spend some time in the train room, later, running trains. Need a day of rest. Gas prices are settling in at $2.75 a gallon. Still can't go for any long rides.

Dining car is here and ready for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 60's here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  No work on the railroad yesterday.  Picked up some southern-fried chicken, drove the family to the swim club, and just chilled out watching the boats pass by.

Y'all behave.

The Chief did discuss the Muffler Man. Here's what he had to say about meeting him:

I goes into a field, looks up and sees this HUGE guy standing next to me.

He sees me staring at him, looks down and says:
'17 feet tall, 850 pounds, 20 inch private, 3 pound testicles, Turner Brown.'

I faints and falls to the ground.

The big guy kneels down and brings me to, shaking me. The big guy says: 'What's wrong with you?'

In a weak voice I says, 'What EXACTLY did you say to me?'

The big dude says: 'I saw your curious look and figured I'd just give you the answers to the questions everyone always asks me..... I'm 17 feet tall, I weigh 850 pounds, I have a 20 inch private, my testicles weighs 3 pounds each, and my name is Turner Brown.'

So I says: 'Turner Brown?!...Sweet Jesus, I thought you said, 'Turn around.'

brent- glad the move is over, moving always produces some good stories, Being military ive moved atleast 10 times, and non went perfectly smooth. theres always something that pops up but hey it makes it interesting. I remeber the army moved me once and they put all my stuff in the wrong house, that was funny. But what wasnt funny is they made me move it to the right house, (which was right next door) because my handwriting wasnt legible....talk about fun.....lol happy anniversary, i know its late but thats awesome what you did for your wife, shell remeber that forever.

doug murphy-  I am kinda curious about buying a trolley, can you help me with a link to one , they seem interesting.

fifedog-- pretty good shooting. When i went threw basic training shot  expert, i think that allows you to miss 3 out of 40. I got better as i went and went to sniper scholl for three days then got deployed. Never to return. Sniper is really not my thing, you know they get them gilly suits on ad they have you move like 2000 yards  on your belly but you can only move an inche or so an hr, i dont have the patience for that.

laz-- all that running reminds me why i didnt like the army, too much running, heck i dont even like walking anymore. But in my prime i used to run 4-6 everyday and then every weekend i ran 12 with some other soliders. but you could catch me running today, really dont think i can...its awesome you can stay committed. i heard once you do something for 10 days or more it becomes habbit? good job

jabbat--- sound like your a fun guy wish i was closer id really like to hang out with you...

cheif-- sounds like you two had a great time...what is red eye gravy? Is that another way to serve grit? I have tried those but i guess not the right way cuz they taste awful

sounds like everyone is having a great time enjoying life.... I recieved a phone call from the hospital...charles isnt doing well . appers he got a infection of some type. Wife didnt tell me what but he slipped into a comma. Feeling pretty sad about this cus she said he body is rejecting something, (she used a big word i cant spell.) I hope he makes it out of this, I also found out he has cancer, I wa sup there for 3 hrs today. I just wish he'd never gone down them stairs...

Well i am gonna be working on my 2025 to keep my mind busy, i put the new e unit in it and it ran forward only for like 10 minutes then just stopped and now it wont move....Well catch you all later!

Made it through the Regional Transportation meeting this afternoon.  Came home to fried county ham, tomatoes [from garden], GRITS and redeye gravy.  Now back to sleep. Only had two hours sleep since 6:30 AM yesterday until 7 PM tonight.  Good night all.  OH, did run some trains for a few minutes this afternoon before meeting.

Chief, glad to hear you made it back alive.  How about some pics of your booty? Pirate [oX)]

Mitch - very sorry to hear about your uncle.  My uncle Bill was in WWII as a mechanic on a bomber flying over Germany, splicing wires etc when they got hit.  He has some great stories, but won't talk about a lot of it.  I really sympathise, because he is getting very frail lately.

Mike, what does "IIABSDISEI" mean, anyway?

88/Brent, glad to hear your move is done - it's never easy!  Hey, did you get that $$$ for the cards you sent me?

Got my CTT Modern Train Repair book today, so need to read that in a bit.  Waiting for Char to call and talk to the kids - she'll be home tomorrow!  Never did get a call from the shop about her van - dropped it for a service yesterday.  Hope it's done!

Chuck - hope your grocery trip was a good one.  Gas was $2.75 here yesterday.

Buckeye - glad to hear your class is over.

Laz - your running posts are making me really tired!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening all

Sounds like Chief and Jim had a good time.  I'd like to hear some of those tales you tell to get the ladies.

If anyone is in Southern Ohio and would like to visit drop a line!

I was hoping  to take Thursday off vacation, but wouldn't you know it, I have to work a 12 hour shift.  So much for study Thursday!  Need to get it done tonight, so got to go

May God Bless

Jim
