Watering!!!!!  Back from Miss Edna's.  Jerry and I repaired a Lionel Dash 8.  One with the big motors and magnitraction [before TMCC].  Could not believe it.  Both gears [at each motor] had slipped down the shaft and were not even close to the pinion.  I slide them back with a big screwdriver and they stuck.  I wonder if they were ever on there.  Guy had gotten engine from EBay.  Had not been run much.  Man did it have a "pile" of screws to take out to get shell off.  Well, she be fixed now.  Later

Spankybird,

When I think of Interurban Passenger cars I think of the two or three unit ones that ran between Reading and Philadelphia PA.  Maybe it was more like Rail Diesel cars but the units were electric powered because they had the overhead wires and catenary.

The model interurban set that I have from K-Line each car is about 18 inches long not including the couplers.  The road number is 8211 & 8212 Reading Company, this is not the stock number for these cars as I have the box buried somewhere in the loft upstairs, don't worry it is indoors.

Willoughby was the headquarters for the CPE (Cleveland, Painsville and Eastern RR) which was an interurban. Here are a few shots of Willoughby back in the day.

My wife and I had a nice visit today with Lisa-n.c. at our mountain house in Banner Elk [where the temperature was 51 degrees last night and the gas furnace cranked up].

Lisa stopped by to pick up the Gargraves wood tie flextrack removed from my dismantled 13x28, twin shelf, 5-track shelf railroad. The wood ties are "desert-dry" and difficult to slide along the rails. Several applications of WD-40 will be required at the tie/rail joints for the return of easy crosstie movement and flexibility. If desired, rail flanges also need some desoldering where railpower wires were connected and where some rail joints were soldered together.

Lisa should now have enough track for her future expansion of the N&W affiliate "Mayodan Ry" located along where the Mayo and Dan Rivers join in her hometown. Servicing the local textile mills, brickyard and plug tobacco factories will keep both her switch engines and the N&W's Roanoke-to-Winston-Salem trains plenty busy.

Doug M : in addition to what Mike said above, you may want to look into the American Plastic Bricks !!  They are very educational for the little ones and can also go well with your trains !!  I know Mike & a couple others have them besides myself & there are tons of them on e-bay all the time. You can make a Trolley Barn & other structures !! This is not a good house I made, but it shows what they are & the windows & doors open !  I have a garage door that opens too !!

Thanks, John

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the low 80s.  Chief, I am invading the Ohiozo on my way to Mid-Ohio.  We are staying at the Westfield Inn in Westfield Center.  Our insurance company is a presenting sponsor for the IRL race tomorrow and we managed to get some VIP passes for the race, plus they are putting us up in the company hotel Saturday.  This could be a sweet weekend.  Look for us tomorrow on TV:-)  Doug, since you got a "Lincoln Logs" set, you may have to look at getting the Lionel set that goes with it.   We mowed the yard last night and chased neighbor kids away from the apple tree.  All they were doing is picking them off and throwing them on each other.

We had bacon and biscuits on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone (especially Darren, Sarah, Danica, and AJ IV)  have a good day and a good weekend.

Keep on training,

MIke C. from Indiana

An interurban?  How ya going to teach those rebs to stay off the center rail?

Thumbed CTT haven't read it yet so it's on my to do list.

Good morning from a sunny and cool Crystal Lake - probably about 65 in the shade - the coolest this late in July for years and years. More surgery yesterday - didn't go as smoothly as the first time probably because I was a bad patient - anticipating the laser zaps and flinching too much. Ouch. Anyway, it stings today but I can see out of the other eye so can sit outside and take the youngest to the park later.

Congratulations to the new Chief of Roseville! I agree with Tom that an interurban is a needed civic improvement - I propose a contract be let to the Junction Traction Co. to run one. I promise to use only tubular track.

Speaking of interubans, wouldn't you know two of my trolleys derailed in the far corners of the layout (some kids were running them with permission) and I need to find someone who can crawl back there later and bring them out.

My youngest got a 'Lincoln Logs' playset, anyone remember them? Notched wooden slats that build cabins and forts and the like. Anyway, the set comes with a pretty good facsimile of Marty's Flash. Have to see if I can temporarily borrow him to patrol the layout.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 57 degrees. Going up to 77 today, with sunshine all day. This is a perfect day.

Today, I will be busy mowing grass. The recent rain has gotten the grass growing again. Ground is still hard. About 4 to 5 hours worth of work.

No new train news. I have been thinking about how to do the scenery and have a few plans. Last evening, I sat outside and enjoyed the latest copy of CTT magazine. Got a few ideas from it.

NASCAR .....Busch series race later tonite. No Nextel Cup race on Sunday. Big race next weekend.

Dining car has rolled in and is ready for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

HI GIZ,

Went to two train shops today looking for track for buddies layout,  He got american flyer and MTH long straights and also picked up a American Flyer Northern engine for $380.  Yes at BARRYs TRAIN SHOP.  He also gave me a deal on a Lionel C&O George WASHINGTON steamer and all the passenger cars for $1100 out the door.  Going to call him tomorrow and put half down then pay off other half next month,  This is a set that is going for half price and is in the Lionel 2007 Vol. 1 Cat.

Watched Discovery Channel and survived the Scottish winter.

  All have a good one.

I hadn't thought to check previously, but with today's shipment to the store from Lionel I checked the shipping point on the B.O.L. and it was Washington state.  If I interpret the abriviation correctly it was Seattle.  I was surprised that orders to dealers were shipped from what is probably the port of entry.  It also appears that they use a contractor for putting orders together.
