Zeke, my bride and I were in our late 30's before having our first.  Now, as we are getting older, it is tough to do some things, but you adapt, improvise, and overcome....sound familiar?  Anyway, it is just a question of dealing with what comes your way.  I would think late 40's to early 50s.  One thing to keep in mind, the older the woman gets, the more incidence of birth defects/difficult pregnancy.  They start to go up in the late 30's.  Another option is Adoption.  We adopted a baby girl from China a few years ago and it has been great.

Been through the scope test twice.  First time had to drink the gallon of cleansing liquid.  This was after three days of no solid food so I was empty anyway.  Got so sick I could not finish the kool aid.  Test was a breeze since I was given some "good drugs" to quote the nurse that administered them.  Second time (five years later) I was given another prescription for the liquid.  Called the doctors office (test was scheduled over the phone) and said I wanted the pills this time.  Was told the doctor might not approve of the pills.  Said, "No pills, No test."  Got pills.  Only one day of liquid diet required with pills.  Getting ready not nearly as bad second time.

Now lets talk about gout.  I get this real bad from time to time, can hardly walk feet hurt so much.  Missed a few train shows because of gout flare ups.

Anyone want to hear about my hemochromatosis?  High-blood pressure?

John Baker - I have that same Lionel Copper Range 0-6-0 locomotive.  If you have a problem with the cars derailing in turns when you first get a chance to run it, just loosen the screw on the coupler of the locomotive - you can't miss it.  I am running on O27 track, which might be the reason I had this problem, but others have also reported it.

Dave - Sounds like the doctors will be well pleased with their view!  Good luck on the test!

My hand is getting better, but long and ring fingers are still a little stiff with pain self-reported at a level of 1 out of 10 with 10 being the worst pain ever experienced.  Lost on ebay again.  Rained in St. Louis today, but not too bad.  A good, soaking rain.  Wish I could send some to NC and FL.  My grass needs to be cut again and I can't run a rider due to my back yard being so steep.

Zeke - I never met my wife until my 30th birthday.  She was a present from my Dad, who introduced us on a blind date/dinner at my folks' house.  I'm 43 now with kids in grade school and it's not bad at all so far.  We'll see when they hit their teens very soon now, though!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evening all.  County called and said pond was probably sewer dumped in as a spill.  Here we go again.  First they said they thought it was, then NO and now YES. Sigh [sigh]  Some heavy metal turned up in the sample at the manhole at the edge of the pond.  This comes from sewage per the County tester.  Actually very high level there but none in pond [as diluted].  Now lets see what happens.  Wife called this afternoon and said her ~*#% Nissan turned light on again.  Seems this code says EGR valve.  Just replaced it.  Dwight is going to recheck the valve and etc tomorrow.  Wife says it runs like scaulded dog.  I drove it later and it does.  Been spark knocking bad on regular gas.  Can't get it to spark knock now.  Acts like computer is just sending randum codes. Grumpy [|(]

Been testing Atlas engine [s].  One has given nothing but trouble.  Been back to Atlas three times.  Sent me a new one this time.  It does better.  Both are identical except road numbers.  Both really "cut up" if lashed together.  Runs good cold but as they heat up, lose command reception in spots on layout [lights do not flash or flicker].  Not quite as bad if you run them alone.  All other Atlas engines, Lionels and MTH's run fine in those spots [and all over the layout].   I think they have some antenna design problems.  Will talk to the guy tomorrow.  Very nice guy and very helpful.

Good night ladies and gentlemen and you too Buckeye.

Morning boys ( and Miss Lisa),

Brewed a fresh pot. Like Dr. John, I am in a summer train lull. Bought the Gantry crane at York and still have not gotten it connected and running.  Maybe later.

Son and the Mrs went to DC to see apartment, but landlord never showed up to let them in.  Think he will still take it, but has to make another trip. Just over an hour and fifteen to  American U from G'burg when there's no traffic.

A few months ago I believe someone was looking for K-Line SuperSnap track.  Boscov's ( a local department store carries trains  has some listed on their web site. They also have K-Line Plymouth Switcher Sets decorated for Reading and Ford for $74.99.

Here's a link to their site:

Have a great day,

Good morning from New England, where the Ohioan's took one from us last night at the ball yard.

Well, I successfully removed the K-Line shell from the chassis and got it all cleaned up and ready for painting. Did the same with the tender. A bath in Castrol Super Clean removed all the holiday graphics nicely. Paint to come later this week, after the rains subside.

I'm going to post some before and after photos of my 736 "restoration" today. Be sure to take a look!

Good morning all,

It is another hot sunny day in SE Indiana with temps in the 90s.  On the positive side, I do not have to mow the yard again this week.  A few weeds are getting tall, but the majority of the yard is brown so I can not see why to do it.  We won again last night in soccer 5-1.  I even made a nice defensive save in the second half.  I talked to the daughter in Virginia last night and they are moving back to Indiana in the near future!  As the voice of Bill Clinton on the "Bob and Tom" show says, "It's great being me!" :-)   No change yet on Lucas' girlfriend situation.  May have to have a conversation at some time in the future.  The dining car had an extra load of donuts for "Points East" this morning.  I hope everyone has a great day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 65 degrees. Going up to 88 again, with sunshine. It sure has been hot here. This weather is more like August.

Today, I have to drive up to Cambridge, to pick up some groceries. Not the best job in the world, but I can get out and look around. It would be nice, if there was a hobby shop to look thru.

Yesterday, I took the steel bridge off of the layout and now, I will get it ready for painting. It needs to be cleaned good before painting. This will take a while, as I am in no hurry.

Well, Dining Car is here. Wonder if " points west " has boarded yet. It is time for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

I'm having a forum problem, when I signed on I had to go through the sign on screen, etc., no problem.  When the forum index finally came up it has me as "Reading T-1".  I dumped out and it came up with me as "Safety valve" and then went back to "Reading T-1".  I tried writing a separate post with the problem and it dissappeared.  Any one else having problems?

Well we have summer weather going close to 90, storms maybe later. went to Awana graduation last nite, they had a carnival for the kids after, it was fun to watch them play the games and I ate hot dogs and POPCORN. Today I fell old again and tired.

Good morning from the great Alabama desert. No, it's not really that bad but it is the worst dry spell here since 1960. Did not notice the smoke as much this a.m. Either wind has shifted or fire starting to die down - hope the latter!

Sir James, we had our Vacation Bible School registration carnival last night. Sounds similar to your Awana carnival - food, inflatable games, face-painting, etc. We had a pitching booth with radar to measure your fast ball. Won't tell you my pitching speed but I still throw faster than guys half my age. Now excuse me, I have to go outside and find my arm - it must be lying out there somewhere. Ouch! Dunce [D)]

I take the wife up to Birmingham tomorrow morning to see the cardiologist at UAB. We've heard very good reports on him. God's been good to us, so we're at peace with the whole thing.

Good morning from a sunny and hot Crystal Lake where I am recovering from the symphony last evening and the road crew that showed up to repave our street at 5 am today. It was a wonderful performance (Jon, the dinner at Rhapsody was wonderful if a tad expensive - I give it a one trolley). Got a lot to do today before leaving tomorrow - hope to be in Knoxville by Fri evening and Hilton Head by Sat afternoon.

Jim, wonderful job on Julia's train.

Zeke, I say go for it. We adopted our youngest when I was 40 - it was my bride's idea that I trusted/went along with. I am more tired than with the other two but it is worth it...

^ While our North Carolina Symphony is quite good, I am envious of your ability to attend the Chicago Symphony on a regular basis. When we were there earlier this month we attended the "Camelot" revival at the La Salle Bank Theater (with Michael York). Lots of great cultural stuff in Chicago.

Morning All

Another beautiful day in Southern Ohio, like many we could use rain.  At least we don't have fires.  Kind of surprizes me because so many people burn fence rows to clear them around here.

Dr. John - try looking at for an online nissan forum with a trouble shooting thread.  I use them an they are helpful.

Doug - Bow [bow] Great plans.  Keep the home front happyWhistling [:-^]

Zeke - age is not the factor as much as attitude.  Kids are a blessing and trying at the same time.  I was 23 when we had our first, and now at 51 have 3 grandkids.  We only had two due to wife's health issue and they take through every emotion there is, even today.  Like Doug and Jim and others are finding out, the teen years are the most challenging.

I think kids/parents relationship is a lot like our relationship to God, with us as the kids.  I try to keep this in mind when dealing with kids.  There are time when you may not like them, but you'll always love them.

Been real busy around here.  Tearing down a building to make room for a garage addition.  With it being in the 90's it been slow going.  Got class this weekend andworking on final papers as there is about a month of classes left till summer break.  Plan to build the garage addition then.

Lisa - hope hubby doing better

Don - Really like the guard rails on the overhead

David - Neat casting.  Hope everything comes out OK

Chuck - stay cool and pace yourself

May God bless your needs

Dr John,

Better check that radar, could have been your arm speed that got clocked. It was fun and they had a dunk tank and of course the littlest ones got some help. I mentioned to the pastor that he was suppose to baptize people not drown them,    Mi. Jim

I think this is my 900th post,

Anyway, Buckeye if you get out here I would pick up lunch or dinner as well.  Wouldn't find much in the way of grits, but, could get Tofu or Tacos.

Zeke - We were married for 10 years before we got our son.  He has kept me young!  I was 42 when he was born, at 50 I'm White Water Rafting, climbing Mountains, camping, and many other activities.  Your loss can never be replaced.  But you have many attributes that you can provide to someone, don't be overly concerned.  I think the sacrifices are insignifcant compared to the benefits.

Had a little problem with the elevated trains.  The over extended roofs of the Denver & Rio Grande found the frame of the Log Skeleton cars.  (Log train about 4" higher and 2" seperation)  Anyway, major derailment, and the General doesn't bounce good.  The interferance is only at 1 location.  Was going to reset some track and decided would try first to switch train locations.  That worked!  Well Almost!!!  The log train (Heisler) has an engineer figure with an arm that extends out of the window.  Well that Censored [censored] arm, reached out and grabbed one of the guard rail posts!!  So upon further investigation, he was not seated properly.  So I sat his *** down, and now NO PROBLEMS!  Just further reminder of how important it is to keep your arms and legs inside a moving train.

Then yesterday, I spent about 3 hours cutting groves in a 8' shelf to accomodate sitting rolling stock on.  Made grooves for the flanges to fit in so there would be no rubbing of cars and correct spacing.  Turned out to be a waste of time.  Set the groove too deep and the pickup rollers were too low.  So ended up turning the board over, and using card board strips in between the cars.  Some days it doesn't pay.  Made over 70 cuts 19" long, spaced correctly but just a little to deep.  Overkill.

Finally, this weekend is a Big Train show in Ontario (G-Scale) but they have a lot of vendors that carry stuff for O-Scale.  Got some sound effects last year that are activated by a waffer switch.  Bad news is we have a show at the same time, about 8 miles away.  Think I will disappear for a couple of hours.  Need to pick up some power pick-ups to eliminate 9v battery usage.

Hope everyone has a great day!  Remember keep your arms in the window!

Afternoon.  BTW: did have popcorn last night. Wink [;)]

Been on phone and doing car thing.  Now for lunch.  Talked to Altas.  They said these engines had a antenna location that might be the problem.  Still run good but will remember the locations on layout where signal is poor for them.  He can not understand why they do not run good together at real slow speeds.  Did run my MTH Santa Fe F3's last night.  First time in 3 or 4 months.  They ran good.  Hope all are well.  Forgot some of the replies I was going to post.  Senior moment I guess.

OH, let the kind management know if you are still having software problems.  They are really good at trying to fix them.  I have to remind myself that they are extremely kind to frunish this forum for free.

Good afternoon.  Dr. John, it does seem as if the smoke has lifted a bit.  Still a haze in the mornings.  Our headaches are getting better, so perhaps it is getting better.

Chief, good luck with the car...as was mentioned, you may want to check the car repair forums as many times folks have dealt with the same issues and often, they are moderated by "expert mechanics".

I won a few more cars from the auction last night.  Got a "Cracker Jack" car and a SP box car.  I have run out of room to put them, so perhaps I need to get rid of some of the wife's clothes so I can get more rolling stockBlack Eye [B)]Just kidding, if she heard me say that I would assume room temperatureDead [xx(]

Hope everyone has a blessed day,

Chief - I had a similiar problem with the EGR light.  Mine is resolved.  Since the car is an '86, it didn't say "EGR", it would say "Check Engine Soon".  Well after I had the engine replaced it still would come on after driving for about 1/2 hour at freeway speed.  So simple fix..... Removed the light bulb.   Worked fine, UNTIL go to have smog test down.  Pass all the emission test way below minimum, but Technician REQUIRED to see light ON when the key is on.   "Gee, must have a burnt out bulb".  OK for two years, then need to install lightbulb.

BTW, any word of coming to a Grand Opening for BPS in Rancho Cucamonga?

Had that problem with the DeLorean, "Lamda" light should show when O2 sensor needs replacing however a past owner had removed the bulb! I bought the car with 31000 on the clock which is about how long the sensors last. The light works on a counter which counts down to 100% of 31000 miles. The D was built before high tech electronics so the counter is mechanical. It's stuffed deep up under the dash. When the car started acting up the last thing I checked was the the bulb and Lamda system!Censored [censored]

Afternoon fellas and Ms Lisa.

I have no idea what posts I was going to reply to so I'm not going to bother... I'll join Chief on the senior moment couch... someone bring some coffee too please!

Wife won't leave me alone (she installed the GMail notifier on her work computer and now sends me gmail chat messages all day long)... not good.  She really needs to find a job that keeps her busy or I'll be up to my earholes with work to do at the new house... speaking of which 15 days!

Hmmm...

Oh!  Nick and John, almost forgot!  Wife said we're not coming over till next June, or something like that, so you have plenty of time to get something set up.  She said beer or tea would be fine as well.  Also sent a link to the place her friend went to see Thomas... of course she sent it via gmail chat and now I don't have it any longer... Banged Head [banghead]

--- edit ---

OK just realized there is a scrollbar on the gmail chat window and if you drag the holder up you can go back in your chat history... http://www.midlandrailwaycentre.co.uk/ Whistling [:-^]

No jokes about the IT guy who can't work a scrollbar!

I see the random poster has attacked again... well we have 53 more pages before he shows up again! Smile [:)]
