Good evening all,

It turned out to be a nice day in SE Indiana, which I wished it could have been yesterday.  Fortunately we bought rain ponchos before we left.  It was a good race yesterday between the rains.  I wish the teams and drivers we were rooting for would have done better.  AJ's driver was up to second at one point.  Hope "Points East" enjoyed the donuts I sent earlier today.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Well hope everyone has had a great weekend, it was too short here!!  I missed the Photo Fun again! But here is an update on the elevated track.

Guardrail is up, and functional.  Does a great job on creating a hazard to work around also!

The following isn't a real good picture but does give an idea.

The uprights are 6" carriage bolts, with a nut at the top, 2 in the middle and 2 at the bottom.  The bottom 2 secure the bolt to a flat strap attached to the top of the shelf.

Then got the J Series N&W, this past week.  I purchased it while at York, and had TAS upgrade it to PS2.  It is a definite winner.  The only problem is the smoke.  And man does it SMOKE!!

We took it down to the club and ran it Saturday pm, Just to be safe I ran our Cotton Belt first to make sure there wasn't any track issues.  (Somewhat common).  So then put the J on and 3/4's the way around as it is coming out of a tunnel, WHAM!  Right into a protruding upright for a new track section.  The J requires a 53" curve, even though the track is 72" the upright was in the path of the swing.  Nothing damaged but more than a little frustrating.

Going to be able to start on our benchwork in another week or 10 days.  Have to work this next weekend, so not till after that.  Meantime using our temporary layout.

Weekend was good, have a cold so that doesn't help, but enjoyed a relaxing day today.  Missed the majority of the races. UGH!  Didn't tape them.

Later...

Good evening,

Sounds like most had a pleasant Memorial Day.  We stayed home and had a cookout for two as all the kids had other plans.  Make Lamb chops on the grill, corn on the cob and asparagus.  Brownies for dessert.

Did a little train work, put passengers in the rest of the new CNJ passenger cars that I got Friday.  Seven car consist.  Three coaches, a solarium car, a diner, a combine and a combo RPO / baggage car.  They are Railking but very nice with detailed interior but do not come with any passengers installed.

John Baker, It sounds like you are really into the train simulation deal, have all the bells and whistles. Smile [:)]

Take care,

Don, I was writing my last post at the same time you were writing yours.  Love that smoking J.  The ceiling layout looks good & should be safer with the guard rails.  To bad about the mishap at the club layout.  Hopefully they will change that support to avoid future problems.

John, No ....  Doug's club is in San Diego, at the Balboa Train Museum.  Mine is in the Long Beach/Los Angeles Harbor Area.  About 110 miles apart.  Doug's has a much nicer layout, both are similiar in size.

Doug and Don - how many club members do your clubs have? Send me an e-mail. I have an interesting reason for asking.

Morning to all.  Just brewed a fresh pot. Had a beautiful day here yesterday. The weather cooled off some, which made for great sleeping.  It is 62 now with highs to be about 82.

Busy day at work today. Lots of meeting and such.  Winding down on the school year. 13 days left wth students, 14 with teachers. usually the kids settle down after the Memorial Day holiday because the end is in sight.

Have a great day.

Good morning from New England!

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. I did. Cooked out on the grill, sat in the sun, got some yard work done, viewed milfs by the pool, ran trains, watched the Red Sox. I'm brown as a (Halle) berry from being outside.

Finished Julia's pink girl's train loco and tender. Runs and looks great.  Photos to come of that and my "restored" 736.

When the Chief's package gets to MA, I'll do a rain dance for Roseyville.

Good morning all,

It is going to be sunny and hot in SE Indiana with temps in the high 80s today.  We watched the Victory Dinner last night for the 500.  It is one of the few sporting events where they have an official celebration the day after the event.  Occasionally there are some bright moments, but usually there are just the usual thank yous.  I hurt my right arm some how yesterday and did not sleep well, but it is feeling better now.  Bran muffins were on the dining car for "Points East" this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 65 degrees. Going up to 85 today, with sun all day.

Today is a relaxing day. Got the front and side hill mowed, yesterday. I have been watering the flowers and garden, every night. Not much rain lately. They keep calling for thundershowers, and none, so far.

I will be taking out the steel bridge, from the layout, next week. Get it ready for painting. I will take pictures.

Well, Dining Car is here from " points west ". Breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Morning all.  Fish biologist called.  Said I am doing OK with pond.  As long as it is sunny and warm, it will take care of itself.  If it goes several days and stays cloudy, trouble.  He thinks it will thin and give me the dark water I desired all along.  Good news.

Good afternoon from beautiful Ohio, where it is currently 78 degrees with a clear sky.

Doug, I'm sorry that it is so much work taking care of that rock lawn.  Don't you use rock salt to take care of the rock weeds? Do you water the rock lawn with hard water imported from Ohio? I assume that on a weekly basis you must paint each rock individually.  That really eats into your train time. Smile [:)]

Don, I really like the J.  Who is the manufacturer?  I agree with Mitch, you need a big exhaust fan.  Since Doug's club in San Diego has visitors, is it possible to visit your club's layout?  How can anyone in California have a cold?

Zeke, give them my name the next time they need a hostage.  Big Smile [:D]

John, I love lamb chops. Dinner [dinner]

Chuck, when are we scheduled to release the storm of the century with about six feet of rain for Roseyville?

Well class is done till the second week in July!  Now prepping for the 'move'!  17 days and counting!

Those hailing from the Island across the pond... Wife and I are planning a trip there next year to visit a friend of her's from High School.  They live near Nottingham?  How close are you chaps?

Got some pics from them over the weekend.  Seems Thomas the Tank Engine is travelling through the English Countryside and they decided to take the little one and her older sister for a sighting and ride.  Little bugger really loves Thomas.  So when they visit next July I have to have the layout complete so Thomas can take a stroll along the rails for her!

Also, her husband owns Hornby trains.  I looked 'em up online, they appear to be HO scale.  Is that accurate?  Or is there a more proper European scale that I should be referencing?  I think I'm about to be asked about brokering a trade... Confused [%-)]

Buckeye - you forgot to respond to fife... I was stationed in Geilenkirchen West Germany which is right smack dab in the middle of where the Battle of the Bulg was fought.  Was very impressive as I got loads of pics.  My Great Uncle was shot and killed during WWII fighting alongside Patton on the march through Italy.  Watched Patton this past weekend, man was a military genius, a bit rough around the edges, but he could motivate an ant to take on an elephant!

Don - The elevated track is coming a long famisly!  The J-Class really puffs the smoke, about the same as my C&O Streamlined Hudson.  Contacted TAS about upgrading and I think I'm going to do it as soon as we move.  Probably send them the 491 and the Chessie F3 A Unit that isn't powered and have them both upgraded to PS2.  They are sending all the electronics in the 491 back to me... so what can I do with them?  Wonder if they could put those in the F3 B Unit?  Whistling [:-^]

Roy - sorry to hear about your club losing the space... that sucks... best of luck finding a new home for the club.

Dr. John - I think Bear Bryant was the only coach Joe Paterno has faced that he never beat?

Buckeye - The J is from MTH, from the '97 catalog I believe.  It was originally PS, but really in mint condition or close anyway.  You might know I would find a drawback on it after I get it.  As it turns out that years model was a 53" minimum.  Subsequently went down to 42", urgh!! Going to have to do some more re-configuring I think.  I was setting the layout up for two main lines at 72, and all the switching and internal at 42, now will have to think on it a little.

Our club DOES allow visitors, we have at least 1 open house every quarter.  If your ever in LA I will make sure you can get in.

We are getting a new website put together, it is in development but its at www.aghrclub.org

Cold due to Night Life.
