Hey all !

Gorgeous day today. Approve [^] Unfortunately the back is a bit sore from all the landscape work the past several days, although I did take friday off to run trains at the museum. The bad part is I still have a BUNCH to do yet. Dead [xx(]

Roy, That's a bummer that your club has lost it's space. Any museums in the area that might be a match for the club ? We are extremely fortunate in that regard, although it did take us quite some time to be given a permanent spot.

Good afternoon from a sunny and beautiful Crystal Lake where we had a pleasant day, with church, visiting some friends, watching the big race until their red flag - and finally, hopefully going to browse the newspaper whilst sitting in the sun on the deck. The only negative which I am trying not to let bother me was the drivers window in the mini-van falling clean out of its track - and this two weeks after spending zillions to fix it. Back we go... I guess it was good it happened to me instead of the bride or yesterday whilst driving in the rain.

Good news about Boco. Sorry to hear about Roy's club. Hope to run the trolleys later tonight. One of my birthday gifts was a little book entitled Lost Trolleys of Queens and Long Island - I can't believe the variety of prototypes - there's was something for everyone back then: Battery-powered single-truck Birneys; 'pusher' trolleys with traction motors mounted in a cab - to push a passenger trolley through an unbridged bit of track that flooded every time it rained. Anyway, it's sure inspiring!

Doug,

There are two places we have worked in the area. One is a mid-cities area where they run a steam train and have some land, but no buildings. The other is the Dallas Age of Steam museum. Both have interest in our club and detailed layout but both entities are 4-5 years away from any new facilities (and that assumes funding happens). We presently set up our portable layout when they have an event.

Roy, do you remember reading in CTT the article about the layouts set up for the Holidays for Toys for Tots?  Something like this could tide your club over until a permanent home is found.  The exposure at a minimum might help you find a place in a shorter period of time.

Doug, how can you be sore from landscaping in Southern California?  Don't you have rocks instead of grass in your front yard?  When I was in Escondido many years ago I was shocked to see colored rock lawns.

Good Evening everyone.  Heavy smoke the last few days.  On the way to Church this morning, it looked like heavy fog with a fireplace smell.  No rain, and plenty of heat to make it tough for those fighting the fires.  Church was great and we had several groups of people who had seen the movie and came to visit.  Some from Illinois, Texas, and Tennessee.  Nice to see folks from all over the country come to the deep south.

Roy, hope you and the group get a layout soon.  We have a museum at the local depot and they have a HO layout in an old Southern boxcar.  Perhaps, if they can get some old boxcars and have them side by side, you could build something with that.

Chief, glad the pond is getting clear.  Hope y'all are able to diagnose the source and stop future occurance.

Lisa, Hope the husband continues in his recovery.  In the end, you are very blessed in that it could have been much worse.

May everyone have a good day tomorrow and please take pause to remember the fallen and those who continue to fight for our freedoms.

God Bless,

Dennis

Good night all.  Back from MIL's.  Where I had to grill.  Was told I would not this time.  No one had done a thing until I got there.  Good bar-be-qued chicken, corn on the cob, greenbeans, boiled potatoes, baked beans and cole slaw.  LOTS OF SWEET ICE TEA.

Now to rest.

Jim, It's just happened to me! I had just finished my post and pressed go; Zapp the girl in the exchange dropped a stitch and the line went dead. Phoned the telecon co. and while I was holding awaiting an answer, a man on a bike got there and fixed it.

So here goes again;

Jef, I have a PC with XP 2.2gig Athlon thingy (I have a sim prog that recommends 3gig, so an upgrade is imminent), 250gig HD. 19" LCD whatsit, 1meg graphics and all sortsa udder tings. (now completely blinded by science). Microsoft Train Simulator with add-ons. Trainz (I also have TRS2006 + add-ons), Raildriver cab control desk. The whole lot adds up to nearly 60gig of disc space and requires frequent de-fragging etc.

Run out of time, taking beloved to ride a train (I hope).

Morning Boys (and Miss Lisa)

Yesterday was a lazy day. Mostly watched the Indy 500 and Coca Cola 600.  Did go out for a quick dinner with the Mrs.

Gotta go brew a fresh pot. What's left would peel paint or rot your stomach.

Have a great day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 63 degrees. Rained a little last night. Going up to 83 today, with sun and clouds.

Today is a normal day around here. Have a few things to do and then relax later. Yesterday, I sat in the shade a lot. Watched a couple of races. Outcome was not expected.

I see John is up already. Nice picture of Bascule bridge. That would be neat to duplicate on a layout.

The question is....Where is Buckeye ??

Dining Car is here with flags flying. Time for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Memorial Day weekend, Monday.

Good morning.  It is Memorial Day 2007 and we need to remember that Freedom is not Free.  It has costs for both the individual and their families from the time of our Revolution to the Mideast War.

Baltimore National Cemetery, Baltimore, Maryland is the final resting place for my Father, a Veteran of WWII.  He was a Sargent in the 106th and saw his regiment annilated during the Battle of the Bulge.

Good Memorial Day morning from a sunny and beautiful Crystal Lake where I hope to join the rest of you in grilling out later today. My singular goal today - apart from trying to fix the van window - is to roust everyone out of bed (I'm up with the youngest this fine morning) and make it to our town's parade in a few hours.

My personal thanks to those of you who have served in the armed forces - and to your fathers, sons and other relatives.

Top of the mornin to Y'all!  It is a good morning here in Dixie.  While the smoke has been heavy at times, right now it is clear.  Was very bad about 6am.  Wife has to take breaths from her inhaler.  Have to take tylenol often when the smoke gets bad.  We have been trying to keep our dog in doors most of the time.

One idea I have made a practice for the soldiers.....if you go out for lunch/dinner and see a soldier/marine, buy their meal, if you can.  We have a Marine base nearby and Ft. Benning is up the road, so it is not unusual to see troops out for a meal.

Did get plenty of yard work done yesterday and so today....IT'S TRAIN TIME!  I will do some wiring and run some trains.

Jim and John, I too have had a number of times when I would lose a post and have to either retype it, or just give up.  It is frustrating.

Hope everyone has a great day and week ahead.

God Bless,

Dennis

Thanks Fife !!  We actually have another Bascule bridge further up the river that was NYC RR & is now the N&S's . They keep it mechanically sound but don't paint it or anything ! Years ago, the Pennsy. was on one side of the river & NYC on the other side. Now it's all N&S ..

Thanks, John

Morning everyone and have a Great Memorial Day.  Going to our friends for a BBQ later today.  Usually in KC this weekend every year, but wife and kids are going up in about a week for 3 or 4 days for a family reunion.  I can't take that time off work - need to build up some leave.  My hand is a bit better today and typing is easier, which is good since I have to get back to work tomorrow!  We were going to go the Museum of Transportation today, but since my hand hurts, I don't think it's a good idea to be climbing on trains.  Will wait and do it next weekend maybe?  Spankybird, love that car and really all your stuff.  I STILL need to copy your water tower, have all the material, but I've been busy on my friends 1:1 scale patio project and my 1:1 scale basement and dont' seem to get to the projects I want to do.  Also bought some stuff to make a diving bell model for my layout.  Also have a couple likely layout plans.  I'll post some pics when I actually get some work done.

Morning all!

Happy Memorial Day! Thanks to all you veterans for this glorious day!

Chief - those shipments are delayed at Sauthern Customs at the M-D Line of course!

John - Nice photos. There was a similar bascule bridge in Houston on a bayou just east of where the new baseball stadium (Minute Maid Park or whatever it might be called now) is located on the east side of downtown. I always wanted to get some photos of it but they tore it down (about 1994) when UP expanded a yard there (the bridge wasn't used for many years). It was in a very bad neighborhood and one just did not go there even in broad daylight. Many many years ago there used to be barge and small ship traffic all the way into downtown Houston, but that all declined quickly with the expanded Houston Ship Channel and turning basin.

I am flying to Denver tomorrow morning for meetings in Boulder. Back on Friday. May not be able to post.

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

1830 in a very wet Stockport,

Now to continue this mornings dribble; I wonder how Mrs Chief is with him after all those pulses and roughage at the MIL I'll bet there are signs of combustion.

Lisa, I have had Gouty Arthritis for 40 odd years, was on Allopurinol 'till last summer, found it was causing Gingivitis, so now regulate my diet, avoid all offal, tea and coffee in moderation as with swig and go easy on the high octane, consume only on a daily rate 2oz red meat, 4oz fish and poultry/game, eat plenty fruit/veg/dairy produce and watch your weight. It dos not mean the end of life as with practice the relief from that exquizite pain is heaven.
