Mitch--
Congrat's on the new job, you will be busy and hopefully enjoy the breath of fresh air for one year. Two questions:

1. Last move?
2. Will they let you off for York?

Morning all.  Congrats Mitch.  As LAZ said, put the PAL in Principal.  My High School Principal really did press that point.  Remembered it ever since [that was back in the Dark Ages].

No ecoli in water samples.  County folks are scratching their heads.  No signs of intentional dumping of sewer or fertilizer [thought some of the rejects might have dumped fertilizer to try and ruin the pond].  Dwight is going to put in his aluminum boat with motor and just ride circles for some time.  Might save me from expense of hiring big irrigation rig.  Several days of several hours of running around and around might do the trick.  County folks are going to research trhe whole watershed.  Need big rain event.  Would solve the problem.  No rain and extra warm for the next 5 days per weatherperson.  Turning it over to the Lord.  He will guide me also fix it.

Might run some trains.

Later.

Chief, I'm part "native American" on my mother's side. Send me a BIG box of trains (I'm not picky), and I'll do heap big rain dance for you. Make algae diappear. In the mean time, why don't you go to the pond and fish for crappies? Wink [;)]

CHIEF - No wonder you enjoy watching THE TUDORS!!!!Laugh [(-D]

On a serious note, try a bale of barley (just toss it out in the middle.)  Also, some years ago (when I spent all my weekends watching fishing shows), some outfit sold a contraption called the LAKE-LIFE PUMP, that helped circulate the water during dormant periods.

Good afternoon,

Mitch, Congratulations on the new position.

John Baker, Is that what summer is like in England?

Brent, The idea of putting a garage under your new train room sounds like a great idea to me.

Take care,

A little warm here in sunny south Florida, around 82 degrees with a slite chance of rain.  Really looking forward to seeing some rain fall as it is extremely dry here in the southeast U.S. we are under water restrictions which means I can only water my lawn once a week right now, but I don't care about my lawn as it is mainly weeds.   I won't try to stop Jaabat or any one else who wants to perform a rain dance.  Can't go fishing here unless you go out in the Atlantic Ocean on a boat, lakes and ponds are almost out of water.

Gas prices are real high down here $3.20 a gallon, but in Europe gas prices are even higher from what I have heard becaue they sell gas by the litre(a litre is a few ounces more than a quart). Have not been to my local hobby shop for a couple weeks because of high gas prices.

Just got my SD-45 from Choo Choo auctions today and it will pull 23 post war 6476 Lehigh Valley two bay hoppers, no horn, using a post war 275 watt ZW with it and only have the handle about half way open and runs at a pretty good speed.

Jefelectric,  when I was in the U.S. Army a few years ago the weather in Germany was rather cool in the summer, was stationed in Fulda, the high temp one year for the summer was 78 degrees.

Because we are sort of an off shore island on Europes West coast, we tend to get Atlantic weather driven by the W to E jet stream which can track anywhere over the length of the UK. If its to the N we get fine weather from the Azores and N Africa. If its to the S we get cold Arcric air and Atlantic storms which are frequently the tail end of some of your tropical storms which can still have some kick in them, and anything in between. We have a saying "if you don't like the weather? Stick around 20 minutes and it will change", in other words 'the UKs weather is as predictable as a womans mood'.

Jaabat,

Will you accept a 235 scout rebuilt with a 2-4-0, D.C. motor?  I have the tender but it may be in use on a train somewhere, I weighted down the tender a little bit with a couple of magnets underneath it from Radio Shack.  May have an old gondola too I could give you, is green with Lionel on it.

Hazy and smoky again today. Rain last night helped us some. Maybe more this evening. Praying hard for rain for the folks in Georgia and Florida with that huge fire.

Mitch - congratulations! Thumbs Up [tup]

Chief - hope your pond gets straightened out. Sounds like a frustrating problem.

Got good news - we will be able to see the cardiologist in Birmingham on June 1. Originally, we were told it might be two months. He has a lot of experience with her type of heart problem so we are very pleased to see him so quickly. Smile [:)]

Still waiting to get Snapper mower out of shop. They've had it for THREE weeks! Angry [:(!] At least the grass isn't growing very fast with our dry spell. Should have bought a J-D! Banged Head [banghead]

Philly, is that the best you can do? For what you're offering, the best I can deliver is partly cloudy with a possible light shower. Not even worth glueing the pasties on for really.

Dr. John, my father-in-law has a Snapper. It spends as much time in the shop as it does in the yard! And it's heavy too! Get yourself a Honda! My first one lasted 18 years and was still running ok when I traded it in!

Great news about the Dr's appointment!

Jim, actually my Snapper has a Honda engine (which has performed flawlessly so far). My problems have been with the steering, the belt that drives the blade and a few minor but annoying problems. All together, it would take about two hours, max, to fix the problems. The dealer says he's backlogged for three weeks. That's the same line he gave me last year when I had it in for service. I guess my beef is as much with the dealer as with the mower. Sad [:(]

This is just a comment, I don't want to start a war of words, but from what I've read about toy train service be glad your waiting for your lawn mower and not a train repair.

Three weeks is not acceptable if you bought it from him. I know locally that machines purchased from the dealer get worked on first, Sears/Lowes/Home Depot etc. goes to the end of the line as they should. Even the big shops turn repairs around in less than 5 days, you may want to look around for a different shop.

For as long as I can remember, after the last mowing in the fall I load my X Mark and take it to my dealer and get it ready for the next season. Those guys are desperate for business in late October and are happy to work on mowers plus you should never store any engine with old oil. Just my .02.

PS--You know why John Deere's are green? So you can hide 'em in the weeds when they are broken down. That came from a John Deere dealer :)

Jon - last move.  I figure 5 to 7 years, by then I will have close to 40 years in the Retiremnt System. I will be off for YorkWhistling [:-^], I feel an illness coming on...

Buckeye  - I live fairly close to the Mason-Dixon Line. Only 23 miles from home to current school and about 21 miles from home to new school.

Fife - The Bachman Valley Railroad, a branch of the Western Maryland, served a number of the mining operations between Ebbvale and Lineboro.  Early discovery of iron ore locally brought a a connection to PA railroad lines to Ebb Valley Station; the line was closed when the mines became unprofitable. You can still see the railroad cut where it crossed Route 30.  Also nearby was the Baltimore & Hanover Railroad.- The company which controlled and operated this railroad was organized in the year 1877.  It connected the Western Maryland Railroad at Emory Grove with the Bachman Valley Railroad near Black Rock Station, in York County, and these constituted, with the Hanover Junction, Hanover & Gettysburg Railroad, a continuous line from Baltimore to Gettysburg.  These lines of roads passed through a well cultivated, rich and productive agricultural country.  After leaving Emory Grove on the line of the Western Maryland Railroad, seventeen miles from Baltimore, the railroad gradually ascended, running parallel with and in close proximity to the Hanover & Baltimore Turnpike.  One great point gained to the southwestern end of York county by the building of the Baltimore & Hanover
and the Bachman Valley Railroads, was that they opened up a section of country
in which the soil is susceptible of being highly improved by the application of
fertilizers, especially lime and phosphates.  The facilities thus offered for
their introduction at a moderate cost were promptly availed of by the
industrious and enterprising farmers, the results of which are now shown in
crops which compare favorably with those raised in limestone land.  A short line
taps this road at Red Hill, running north by east through Abbottstown and
terminating at East Berlin. (Adapted from History of Adams County, Chapter XI, Adams County, PA, contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by Kathy Francis

Thanks for all the notes of congratulations. I will be very busy,  but a different kind of busy.

Take care,

Mowed the lawn last night, including down in the woods.  All mole tunnels are dry and flat, so I guess I got 'em, thanks for the advise Lisa (wherever you are)!  Looked like rain all night, but still dry.  We spent a nice hour and a half tonight watching our son try to choke down about 2.5 ounces of cooked corn.  Man, what a production!  He had to run to the bathroom and gag and stuff for a while, but we chased him back out.

Laz, tomorrow is the last day of school for our kids!  Evil [}:)] Wink [;)] Hang in there, the end is near!

Zeke, good to hear you found a group to check out - good luck with that!  There is an HO group around here somewhere, but no O.

Good morning from a very warm New England!

I woke up this morning to hear the AC unit making growning noises. A quick check showed that it wasn't holding the temp down...so then I started making growning noises...

Julia's pink train looks great! I put a second coat on it last night.

3 weeks is average for a mower to be gone for service here. And like John, my FIL's mower seems to always need a new belt.

Short day here today. I'm heading home at 12:00!!!

Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone!

Good morning all,

It is another beautiful sunny day in SE Indiana with temps in the low 80s and a chance for thunderstorms this afternoon.  We could use the rain, but I do not mind skipping a week of grass mowing.  I just hope it will be dry at 16th and Georgetown in Speedway, Indiana from about 9AM to about 5 PM on Sunday for the "Greatest Spectacle in Racing".  I had soccer practice last night, but only 6 kids showed up.  I hope more show up next week.  I did manage to scan the latest CTT last night as well as the latest  "Inside Track" from Lionel.  Good issues from both.  I had the usual fare for the dining car this morning before sending it to "Points East".  I did have an extra little treat at work this morning.  I saw six CSX engines being moved along the tracks to the other side of town in Indy.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 68 degrees. Going up to 86 today with sunshine, and a late shower, maybe.

Today, I will be busy outside, mowing grass and cleaning up around the house. I have to finish cleaning the train room, this afternoon. Company coming about Noon, tomorrow.  Haven't had too much time to work on the layout lately. Next week, I will take out the steel bridge and get it ready for painting. Looking forward to that.

Lots of racing this weekend. Nascar Coca-Cola 600, Sunday. Indy 500, also. Three gals may be driving Indy cars.

Dining Car is here. Time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Good morning from beautiful Ohio where the current temperature is 68 degrees going to a high of 85.

Ran the trains yesterday, and the K-Line Mikado is acting up again.  The spring loaded plunger is not tripping the lever that trips the switch for the chuff sound.  Has anyone changed out the spring in one of these and did it help?

The Garden RR is up and running.  Need to clean trolley track for the reversing unit to work properly.

Chuck, traffic is a bit heavy today on I-71.  Can't sleep.

Dr. John, I have a friend who is moving to Alabama.  He will be looking for a great fishing lake.  Since your wife is the outdoor type, (runs chainsaw, stacks wood, etc.) does she have a suggestion as to the best bass lake in the state.  Also, the wedding is still on

What a beautiful morning it was here.  Though I had to get the kids up and dressed/teeth brushed/hair brushed/fed/to the sitters, it was great!  In some ways I am jealous of them.  Anyway, a few cases to get done and then I can spend the afternoon with the family.

My H16-44 from The Train-Station should arrive today.  While I can hardly wait, the bride says that it is my "Father's Day Present" and I can't have it till thenDisapprove [V]  Of course, I can spend the time between now and then and do some work  on the layout.

Chief, I hope you are able to get the pond cleaned up soon.  I know that it has brought you plenty of enjoyment (as well as the local hoodlums).  I have never done the barley thing, but it may be worth a try.  You may also be able to get a gas powered pump with a length of firehose and a sten gun to circulate the water.

Dr. John, glad you were able to get your wife in.  If you have any problems with that route, I may be able to get her into Emory, or even Macon.  Both have advanced facilities and some top notch electrophysiologists/cardiologists.  We don't have the advanced equipment for mapping, etc., and that is what is needed.

Mitch, congrats on the job/position.  I am sure you will take the time and make it a top notch school.  We have a number of new schools going up with all the influx of Yanks moving to the area.  As for the school systems, it is a good thing.  Makes my property values go way up, but also makes the taxes go up too.

Hope everyone has a great day and weekend.  For the Vets and for the folks who have paid the ultimate price....THANK YOUBow [bow].

God Bless

Morning all.  This software gets worse with each upgrade.  Was ready up on yesterday's posts and it drooped to Trains.com main page and dropped my signin.

Pond is still green but Dwight [buddy] came over and put in his 14' deep V aluminum boat with 40 hp motor.  Ran it around and around at high speed for about 30 to 45 minutes.  Stirred up the pond real good.  Probably do that again tomorrow.  Then he went fishing and caught big crappie and bream.

Jimbo, boxing up your engine, box car and hopper cars right now.  Should get inches of rain after that one.  Now you said you were part Indian.  Never seen a redheaded Indian.  Guess it is the Irish in you. Whistling [:-^]

Later.

PS: Dr. John, I will take some of my US Airways miles and fly down with my JD and mow your grass [mine is drying up. in fact, yard inside the fence has not even turned green and grown this year as it has been so dry].  Wonder if they will let me check the JD through luggage????Laugh [(-D]
