Here's some good news for a change. At least for me. My annual visit to the urologist; 9 years after prostate cancer surgery, I'm still 100% a-ok.Guys if your over 50 get a PSA. It's stuffy here in the Det. area today and expecting rain, could be a good train day but then maybe not. Missed Chucks dinning car again and getting hungry I'll see what I can find. I'll watch the mail and bye for now.         Mich. Jim

Afternoon all!

Back from an Appleby's lunch with the Ms.

Kids are home from school. Ready for them to go back!

Jimbo - nice pic!

Well it has finally happened. We start disassembly of the club layout tomorrow. Lease is up and no where to move it to. Storage for now.

Got an inch of rain last night and it has been raining on and off all day today. 79 today.

Good afternoon from a sunny and warm Crystal Lake where I left work at 12:30 and two hours later by Metra, am home in an empty house - where is everyone? Paid $3.60 a gallon last night to put a little fuel in the Hyundai. Now it's $3.64...

Wait'll Jim's daughter gets a bit older. Then he'll get a computer - heh heh.

Going to sit out in the sun and read the paper.

Greg, I have had it apart and worked on it several times.  It always comes down to the spring not being strong enough to push the plunger back down.  I wonder where I could get a stronger spring of about the same length.  In fact I would like to change it out to a TAS smoke unit, but they told me it would not fit.

Zeke - You say that you "never belonged to a group"  IMHO, you belong to a very special group.

Thanks to you and all the others who haved served in our armed forces.

Jim F - Glad your mole problem is solved.

Dr. John - Hope your wife gets along OK - will remember her in my prayers.

A lot to catch up on - Been busy week.  My husband decided to blow the leaves out of the gutters on the shed roof of our big barn when he got home from church Sunday.  He slipped and fell about 12 feet with a Husqvarna back-pack blower.  He was taken by ambulance to the hospital and is now home with a fractured hip.  Good thing I'm not working elsewhere right now.  Looking after him, the house, yard and garden is about all I can handle.  No time for trains for sure.

Chief - don't get that pond too clear - may need to hide a body!!! Banged Head [banghead] This dear man is driving me crazy already!  Seriously, he's very lucky that he wasn't hurt any worse.

Hope everyone has a great Memorial Weekend!

Hope he gets better and does not stay on your nerves.  If he does, pond is 12 feet deep so no problem solving your problem. Shock [:O]Whistling [:-^]Wink [;)]

HOT and DRY.  Got to put out soaker hoses.  Ran one train this AM.  The Atlas engines and two dummies pulling long train of hoppers, box cars, lumber load and pulpwood load cars.

Need to clean gutters and roof tops with blower too.  Pam and I both have not felt good for the last 24 hours.  I'm hot all the time and joints a little achey.  Probably from all the ticks I have gotten off of me the last week visiting the woods and pond.  Sitting and resting now.  Had to go get bird food [black oil and suet blocks].

Later.

Dr. John, glad you were able to get your wife in.  If you have any problems with that route, I may be able to get her into Emory, or even Macon.  Both have advanced facilities and some top notch electrophysiologists/cardiologists.  We don't have the advanced equipment for mapping, etc., and that is what is needed.

dennis

Dennis, thank you! Actually, Emory was our number 2 choice if we could not get in at UAB. The cardiologist in Birmingham has written several papers on this syndrome and was one of the instructors for our local cardiologist. We're leaving things in the Lord's hands and look forward to getting past this. Course, the wife is going to have to put her arc welder and collection of chain saws up on Ebay . . . Whistling [:-^]. And did I mention that she can't use a jack hammer Confused [%-)](I am not making this up! You should have seen my wife's face when the cardiologist told her this. I was proud that she withheld the sarcastic reply I could see coming. Big Smile [:D])

Good news on the Snapper mower - got it back yesterday afternoon. They finally got the steering problem fixed (correctly!) and it runs and cuts like a dream. Got the front yard done before dark. Chief - thanks for the offer. Much longer and I would have taken you up on it!

Well, I guess I ought to say something train related. I noticed that Walter Matuch at Ready Made Toys is solliciting suggestions for road names for his products, even providing a quick e-mail link. I suggested GM&O for the new BANG and for the caboose. He sent me back a nice reply - interestingly enough, he attended the Univ. of Alabama back in the 60's and fondly remembers the GM&O alco FA's and RS's that rolled through. (And no, he did not promise to offer the GM&O scheme.) Needless to say, I'm very inpressed that a manufacturer is interested in input from his customers and responds personally! Thumbs Up [tup]

Good evening,

Lisa, Our prayers are with you and your husband.

Put up a new flag pole today.  The rain and wind on the 16th of May destroyed the old one.  New one is made of much better aluminum (thicker).  It did fit the old sleeve in the concrete, otherwise it would have been a much bigger job.

Local gas price actually dropped .10 from yesterday.  Now $2.99 at most stations.

Picked up a set of CNJ passenger cars at LHS today but have not taken them out of the box yet.  Want to take something off of the layout first so I can run them.

Everything is now out of the green house, except the container with tropical water lilies which belong to a friend.

Take care,

Lisa, sorry to hear about your husband's accident.  Hopefully he will be up and about soon.  I tried to respond earlier when I first saw the post, but this new software they have running this forum kept kicking me off.  Hope they get that together.

Well, got the package with my "Father's Day Present" in it today.  Begged the bride to let me look at it....it is beautiful.  Lionel H16-44 in Jersey Central with all the command, odyssy, sounds, etc.  I checked it out, never been run.  I got this from my favorite dealer in NJ for $175.00.  When I checked the list price, it was $399.00.  I had been wanting one of these since I saw the latest Lionel Catalog, but was saddened that they did not have TMCC in it.  Then I find this deal and just had to have it.  My bride would say I don't need any more trains, but I digress.

Hope everyone has a great night.

Lisa, I'm glad your husband is still with us.

Congrats on your Fathers day gift - well deserved, Dennis!

Gas still going up: $3.65 now. Went down to the local Irish pub/restaurant with the bride. They were offering free beer - some pilsner from Czechosovakia. Don't see the Irish connection but I got a free glass too. Here's some trivia for anyone familiar with Chicago's railroad heyday:

What did you get when you called WAbash 2-2575, ANDover-5570 or WEbster 9-4343? Answer in the next post.

Why the Illinois Central (book a ticket on the City of New Orleans) Pennsy (head to Florida on the South Wind) and Chicago and Eastern Illinois (the Dixie Flagler) of course...

Found a great map in the local bookstore of the Chicago Surface Lines - once the world's largest streetcar operation. Amazing to see the trolleys used to criss-cross practically every street in the city...

Off to run the trolleys...

Man, Doug - do you remember that?

Lisa, sorry about your husband, God bless!

Roy - cool videos, thanks for sharing!

Chief, seriously, maybe you can find a windmill somewhere like they use for pumps and use it on your pond?

Rained today and maybe tomorrow?  Went to Michaels and bought some supplies for the layout (again).  Hope to get to work on it this weekend sometime.  Tomorrow, I'll be putting in a patio.  Oh well, TTFN

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 68 degrees. Going up to 88 today, with a chance of a thundershower, later this evening.

Today we have company coming around Noon. Train room is clean and ready for running. It will be good to see the kids again.  Looks like I will have to mow grass again, tomorrow. Growing slow. Ground is getting dry.  I guess that's better than floods.

Lots of racing this weekend. Big NASCAR 600 miler tomorrow. Indy will be interesting.

I want to wish everyone a very Happy and Safe Memorial Day weekend.

Dining Car is here and well stocked. Wonder if " points west " has boarded yet ??......Time for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

Good morning from a grey and cool and misty Crystal Lake - just a typical Memorial Day weekend in northeastern Illinois. Met briefly for breakfast with a few men from church and now back to clean the house up a bit - perfect day for working on the layout later.

Jim F, I don't go back that far - but I looked it up in a book.
