Mornin' boys.  Just finished sorting out the laundry for the wash.  Can anyone explain why teenage girls must wear 2-3 different outfits a day?  Finally sitting down with my first cup of coffee.

fife - It's a girl thing!  Well at least for some women.  The only time my wife wears more than one outfit is if we are going out for dinner or a show or some other activity we are not permitted to speak about on this forum! Shock [:O]

Good morning everyone.  Rainy here in the Middle of OHIO.  Not muched planned today except to head over to a friend's house with the kids for the AFC superbowl: Colts and my hometown team RAVENS.  This is a fitting match up and I'm hoping for a little poetic justice with a RAVENS win today.

With the weather the way it's been, I may need to do yardwork the rest of the weekend.  I wouldn't mind some cold and snow to remind me it's really winter.

Have a great day eveyone, and to all those B-more fans -- GO RAVENS!!!!!!

Just finished watching a movie, Sahara, pretty good.  Was on one of the premium cable channels. Had my bag of microwave popcorn to go with it.

Good night.

Chief, Sahara is a Clive Cussler Dirk Pitt Adventure. Its a good movie and a even better book. I discovered these years ago in the 6th form library (I think you guys call it senior high 16-18 years old). I should have been studying but I spent hours working my way through the library's collection of Dirk Pitt novels!

When I got my first job one of the first things I bought was a old Orange face Doxa Sub 300T Divers watch as worn by Dirk Pitt! I bought myself one of the new re-issue models about 6 years ago. Fantastic bits of kit.

I recommend you read "Night Probe" as this has a great plot.

 Regards

Nick

Good morning from a cold and grey Crystal Lake where I hope to play trains this afternoon while listening to my favorite old time radio show (streamed live at wdcb-fm). I have followed this particular show for most of my adult life - it is great background! It drizzled last eve but didn't freeze - this morning looks dry. I want to drop off a can 'o soup and CTT later to a friend who has a huge cold. But first, I have to escort the middle boy over to some friends for him to apologize for doing a poor job of babysitting over new years. He's nervous but has to learn to stand up and admit when he's wrong.

Tom, those cycles look smashing. I especially like the sidecar.

The thing with daughters and laundry that I discovered that seems to solve some of the multiple outfits issue = make them do their own.

Hello from the Nevins Library!!!

I'm here with the kids so my wife can get some rest. She was called in to work twice last night. Great money, but she's tired today.

I ran all Santa Fe last night for a good long time. A 10 car passenger train on our layout is too big, but we had one running anyway. Looked like a big silver snake!

Just came from a few train stores. The last one was outrageously expensive. I paid $4.15 for a back issue of CTT so I'd have something to read this weekend. Vasaline was NOT included!!

Behave yourselves this weekend. Doug, did curiosity got the best of you?

Wife went out crapbooking and I've got the kids.  Gonna call my folks in Kirkwood and see what the roads are like there.  Might go to the LHS there instead of Schaefers - I always go to Schaeffers for some reason, but I am never really happy there.  Both are MSRP though.  Otherwise, I stayed up too late - dog pee'd on our bed!!!!  So, I feel tired and still kinda angry.  Trying not to take it out on anyone, including Chewy.  I remember seeing ads for that new Sahara movie - maybe I'll watch for it on cable now.  The Bogart movie is great and it's out on dvd, so maybe Blockbuster would have it (etc).  Finally, I was reminded that this is The weekend for my son to make his pinewood derby car, so gotta get that done.  I think we have gold paint - I'm going to suggest just sticking the wheels on, painting it gold and then painting 18K on the top!  I've been told a couple years ago that the secret is in dressing or polishing the nails so the wheels really spin faster, as well as using graphite.

Kevin.....

Close that dang door! It's colder than a well digger's butt here.

Had a great run at the museum yesterday, but it appears that I have to pop the shell on one of my Atlas SD-35's. One of them ran great but the other, although running pretty good, showed signs of some TMCC signal reception problems. The usual signs of occaissionally being non-responsive and almost constant headlight/marker light flickering.

Still to cold to try to do any work in the garage, hate to see the utility bill when it comes. The furnace got quite a workout last nite, but it is supposed to be even colder tonite. Sigh [sigh]

Jim, When did they approve the use of graphite ? Whistling [:-^]

Almost forgot, had a little excitement yeterday on the layout prior to opening. As part of our preopening routine there are certain things that need to be done. Yeterday morning while cleaning the track, using our own custom made cleaning cars, here comes one of the cars down the track. I was prepping another track for cleaning so I really didn't notice anything til it got rite in front of me. We had a true hot box on the layout, apparently the cleaning pad had snagged on a turnout somewhere causing one of the trucks to derail. What do you normally get with a derailment ? SPARKS ! What does not go well with sparks ? Denatured alcohol Shock [:O] It was really kinda funny after grabbing the Halon extinguisher and putting it out. In looking at the pad it had apparently, based on cleaning marks, derailed and ignited hit another turnout and rerailed itself to continue on it's merry way. Fortunately there was no damage anywhere and the extinguisher is still fully charged. Whistling [:-^]

Did I hear right - someone's wife would turn into a Bear. How wonderful!  Should be a good game tomorrow between the Bears and Seahawks. Glad you survived the match, John Baker.

Boy, I have never played as much with an engine as with the wind-up Rail Zepp with the youngest. He loves winding it up and letting it go - prop whirling. I built a circle of track for him on the floor...

May the circle be unbroken!!!!!  Bye and Bye.  Both of them!!!! [:D]Approve [^]  Yes, finished the benchwork in the walk-in.  Trains now run through the wall and back out the other side.  They only go in about half way as I need more straight track.  They still disappear and then reaappear on the other side.  Could not believe no dead spots.  Most of this track was from new boxes and it went together a lot better.  NowI need my switches!!!!!!  Will run some lockons in there later.

Now off to get Chinese takeout.  Youngest and hubby went back home after they saw the trains run the circles.   Later.

Hello All!    Don B- I got your 1688E to run & it will run nice for you now. After my restoration guy feels better,(He's been under the weather lately) I'll call him & give him your engine to put on the Wheels & do the re-paint & clean the trim. First,He'll take off the trim & handrails, then strips the paint off the engine & tender & uses a Bead Machine to clean off the castings & smooth it out. After that, He will re-paint both engine & tender with Three Coats of Paint & he hand rubs each coat of paint to smooth out everything & gives the paint a sheen that looks like a million. I think you'll be very happy with your 1688E after it comes back to you & it will be worth the wait. How did you like the 1688E Set on the New England Toy Train Exchange Auction site? I e-mailed that to you so that you could see what Freight Cars your Engine goes with. Jim F.- Hope you guys are okay in spite of that Ice Storm in your area? chief I ordered my Santa Fe passenger cars (MTH) Back in August and Just got them last week. hope you don't have the same problem waiting for that Slow boat from china to bring your switches. But have to amit I love thos cars there going to look great behind my 2343 and my 2243 (4 behind each) there aprox 16.5 inches long each so on my layout (when ever I get it built lol) its only going to be 7' X 13' so about 5 1/2' of cars and 2 1/2' of engines with dummies I think 8' long will be very nice.

Still doing my inventory up to 14 Prewar (thats it for them) and 42 Postwar and still going. Modern era still to go also. (and Passenger cars I count them seperate)

Evening all,

Long day had class in Columbus, and now at work on break.  I'll be here till 0700 tomorrow, so I post some Sunday pics in the morning.  I think the alternator went out on the truck on the way to work, so tomorrow may be swapping that out.

Wasn't Yavon DeCarlo in the movie 10 Commandments, or am I messing that up too!  Oh well check in later.  Real wet here, makes the knees ache.

Good evening all,

It was a mild and rainy day in SE Indiana with temps in the 40s, but it felt much warmer with all the humidity.  Chuck, I am sorry I was so late getting the dining car to you from "points west".  I hope csxt30 got some food.  John Bakeer, I am glad you enjoyed the match.  If I still followed or cared about American football, I might be excited about San Diego tomorrow, but I have a feeling New England will win.  My wife and I went to our daughter's house in Bloomington to clean that up for a showing tomorrow.  Our daughter lives in Virginia now with her husband and their son.  We were busy, but someone (maybe the realtor??) had done some of the job for us.  We stopped off at my wife's sister's place after eating at one of the best burger joints in the world, Steak'n'Shake.  We also stopped at a Menard's on the way home to get a price on an overhead door we are going to have put in.  It was a long day, but a good one.  Tomorrow we have to clean our house, and maybe go see the new Rocky movie.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Evening all.  Went to columbus today.  Went to the HobbyTown there and did not spend a dime.  All full retail and very low stock.  I had thought about a few things, but as unimpressed as I was, I just left.  Then we went to Pier One and the bride filled the trunkDisapprove [V]. I am saving up for the train show in two weeks.

Chief, my buddy in Columbus just got a 17 rifle.  He got a great deal on it and it is a squirrel's worst nightmare.  I may have to get one.

Well, have to hit the sheets so I can get plenty of rest for the morning service as I will be on the main camera and that means I can't have  a rest.  They always record that one, regardless of which shot is being aired, this way they have  a running record, also it will display on the Imags, so everyone will know if I mess up.

Have a great night,

Frustrated !!!!   I know your going to think I am nuts, but here we are having unpleasant weather, and what am I doing ?  Working !!!  There are so few unpleasnat days here, that I look forward to when they come.  It is ideal to work in the train room then.  I Usually feel guilty when the weather is great outside and I go in to "mess" with the trains.  So get the bad weather and I go off to work.   frustrated

I think Marty is coming to LA this weekend, he will probably be glad to go back home where it is warmer.  I don't think it got up to 50 today!

Speaking of weather, I got this neat remote thermometer for Christmas, it also measures humidity.  For youse guys in the east with dehumidifiers what percent do you find is bad for trains?  (I'm serious)

Keith - I thought I did mention I got the email regarding that auction. I did get the email, and the pictures of that set was awesome!!  Complete with boxes, xfmr, track AND cars.  Got to check what it sold for!!

Sure sounds like a great job on the unit of mine you have!!  I will be excited to see it!!!  But, no problem don't be concerned about rushing or hurrying, that is not an issue.  Take your time, it is not a problem.  If you can post a  picture or two, I'm sure it will be interesting to others, before and after!

Jim - With the pinewood derby cars, when Chris and I was doing it, they YMCA, also had a Dad's division, where we could modify a car anyway we wanted.  I made a pretty much stock racer, then bought a cheap police car that had a led red light, and small siren that ran on a little battery.  (Car cost less than $1)  So I took the light and siren out, and hollowed out the pinewood derby car and mounted in thru the bottom, and painted it like a police car.  The kids loved it!  Especially because it was slower than their cars and would seem to be chasing them.  Hint: Use the graphite liberally, it makes a big difference!

Got to go get things ready for another day at the computer show.... YUK

Stay warm and have a good day...

KEVIN..... HOW LONG YOU GOING TO KEEP THAT DOOR OPEN ????

(YOU'VE ALREADY GOT DOUG TRYING TO HEAT UP THE SAN DIEGO MUSEUM WITH ROLLING CAMP FIRES, (The inSane Dieagons don't know what to do when the temperature goes beyond a 74 degree high or 71 degree low anyway))

+2 at 0630GMT here in a damp chilly Stockport.

Fifedog, Sorry your Ravens were beaten, round here we have Magpies, Sparrows, Jackdaws, Crows, Pigeons, Starlings, Robins, Jackdaws, Chaffinches, Mallards, Canada Geese, Swans, a Heron and in the tree outside my bedroom window a pair of Nightingales. Not much lunacy yesterday, just a couple of pub windows busted!

Ah! Snecklifter, when I was a kid in the 50s there was not much money about, every pub had a vault or tap room that was a male only domain where beer cost a penny a pint less and there was waiter service too. In said room were played games; Darts, Dominoes, Crib and All Fours. Round the corner from me lived a blind(?) man named Lou Vasine, he was an expert domino player who could earn his beer money at the table, but being a gambler he would always put any surplus from the dom's on a donkey. In order to get through the door to the pub he required the price of a half, all doors in my part of Yorkshire had a sneck which was a metal bar fixed at one end that engaged in a sloping latch or snag, this was disengaged from the outside by a lever with a pad and fulcrum passing through the door, thereby lifting the sneck.

I wonder if a spellcheck would have helped with the (s)crapbook (I use one).

Well, got my hobo musical tower, hobo depot, hobo handcar and hobo campfire out of the basement for the layout while I was digging out my lubricating supplies.  Also found my lumberjacks accessory.  I need to get some buttons so I can let the kids activate these from the edge of the layout instead of reaching over the train to turn the barrel etc.

$capbooking or crapbooking - women get together and make photo albums, decorating each page with lots of designer stuff.  My wife has about a zillion little doodads including weird scissors, cutters, presses with punches and dies, acid free paper in different patterns and colors, etc.  She loads up in some big rolling bags - think of someone showing up to set up a display at a big sales presentation.  Then they all sit around and ooh and ah over the pics, journal in the albums, etc.  She is making on album for each kid starting with out marriage and going through their births and up to date, as well as one for us.  So, one day, the kids will move out and have their own album to keep.  Actually, its kinda cool - but not anything I would ever do.

We had freezing rain last night, but haven't watched the news so don't know about farther north, above I44.  Today it was just wet pavement, but ice on the deck etc.  It melted during the day, but once the sun went down, it started freezing again.  Still drizzling and I guess it will continue through tomorrow and into Monday.  Need to get to Costco Monday to pick up Turbotax Deluxe for $21.  Still want to get out to the LHS as well.

Never got to the car today, so will have to do it tomorrow.  Nodding off, so good night ladies and gentlemen.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Morning All, Lots of Grid Iron fans on here! Went past one of the US bases on the way to a Job yesterday. Someone had a Ohio State Buckeyes banner on the front of their house.

American football had quite a following on this side of the pond in the mid-80's, when I was at school we even used to play it at lunch time. It was never included in PE lessons though. We all wanted to play it rather than Rugby! In fact we used to drive the PE teacher mad by throwing the rugby ball in the American style! I guess we all wanted to play in the NFL till we saw the size of the "Fridge" Big Smile [:D]

I surported the Patriots as our cousins in NC followed that team (NC did not have a NFL team).

Channel 4 used to show the games but lost them to SKY TV in the early 90's and that's when the mass intrest seamed to disappear.

Nice bright but cold morning here.

Nick

Mornin' boys.  Wet but mild here in the Mid-Atlantic today.  Think I'll take it easy.

John Bakeer - thanks for the "snecklifter" definition.  In your honor I will try to use the term in conversation once a day.  Do those Jackdaws jersies come in 2x?

88 - watching post game coverage, there were a multitude of long faces rolling out of M&T stadium last night.  There was one guy who was walking hurriedly through the crowd, as if to get home to see if something were at his door...was that you?
