Good Morning from the Mile High City,
BRRRRRR, it's 16 this morning...but the skies are clearning and we should be up in the 40's by mid-day, near 60 tomorrow and mid 60's on Sunday.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday.

ATSJer, we have a men's group in the church that's reading through Grudem's Systematic Theology. It surprised me that they wanted to do it, but they've stuck with it thus far. They read a chapter a week and meet for a discussion session on Wednesday evenings. I'm plowing through it myself, although not as quickly. As Howard Hendricks of Dallas Theological Seminary once said, "Better to have your students drink from a running stream instead of a stagnant pond." So, I keep reading. I must confess, I no longer stay up til 3AM to study anymore!
Hang in there, this too shall pass! Post some pics when you re-letter that tender.
Good morning from a spring-like Chicago where it is sunny for the moment and a balmy 42. And my co-workers wonder about the strange coffee-spitting-out noises coming from my office whilst catching up at the Pot! Whew, that's quite a day of posts to read.
Well, I took the brood to Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry yesterday along with every other family within 50 miles - what a zoo! It is my favorite museum. Speaking of veterans, the new U-505 exhibit is wonderful - imagine going down into that sub whilst it was sinking! It was good to see my old buddy Engine #999 - talk about high drivers. My youngest spent the most time in the steam engine cab donated eons ago by the Pennsy. It was full of small children pulling at the Johnson bar and turning valves. The SMARTT layout in place of the old O gauge one was truly impressive - even though it is in a weeny scale. They have a full-size Chicago cable car and horse car I forgot about. Some of the old 1:48 scale models on display - a C&NW doodlebug comes to mind - pale in comparison with modern issues. I was rooked out of taking a Zephyr tour at the end of the day.Dr. John, I'm starting our men's group on My Utmost for His Highest tomorrow... wish me luck - he's sure spuzzling sometimes.
BTW, can anyone give me advice on how to best put screws in drywall to hold up a light curtain rod? They keep ripping out as the youngest pulls the drapes. I put in some of those plastic screw holders but they just pop out too. Do I just get bigger ones? Your guidance deeply appreciated.
3 days until the White Sox road opener... They look bad. I'm worried.

Wow, your group is actually sticking with a Systematic Theology! We had to read three volumes of Oden's Systematics for BCD (doctrine class) and I barely stuck with it in the class. Let's just say that it was some fairly dense reading. I like that running stream line, but some Systematic books are more like drinking from a fire-hose!
I can't tell you how many times I've felt like this poor sap in my time here at seminary.

Doug,
It's nice to hear an update on ol' 999. I know it'll never be scrapped out now...just great to know it's still alive and on display. Unfortunately what Pennsy donated is a far cry from the Empire State Express' original design. First to be modified was it's high steppin' 86" drivers ( the ones you see in original promo pictures of the later 19th century era ), cut down to 70" in 1899. A more extensive refit happened in 1905 with an all new boiler of different design. NYC even renumbered it in 1913 to # 1086. Ten years later NYC decided they had done this engine a great injustice and restored the modified remains as best they could but by that time the only thing left of the original was it's main frame. At least somebody had the forethought to save what is argueably the most famous speed record engine....and IMHO the most beautiful in it's day.
You could try using toggle type braces to hold up the curtain rod. They usually come with a machine thread screw long enough to do exactly this type of fix. In their collapsed position they can be pushed through your already existing holes in the wall then once the screw is tightened they open behind the wall. Kinda hard to explain but they are much stronger than plastic expanding plugs. They are meant for attaching heavy objects where no stud in the wall can be found. Hope this helps.

Toggle bolts probably are the best bet. You could also move the rods mounts inwards towards the 2x4 that holds the window in, so you hit a stud.

Doug, Use a set of screws with a pair of spring loaded "wings". Insert the plastic threads into the drywall, then screw into them with the screws. When the screw goes through the wall, the wings splay open and create an anchor that cannot be pulled out easily. I used them to hold up a 65Lb wall desk, and it did so easily for 10 years until I took it down to move. They are available in most hardware stores.

Opening day of trout season tomorrow here in the south central part of the state. Going out about 3-4 PM, I'll let all the kids fall in first and wait till things settle before dropping a line.

Ooo! Oooo! Tell me more, Laz! Same as the PWC 773 Hudson I have? If so, that's a great deal for sure! ooOOOoo!
Right now I have mine hauling 13 scale cars rather than the PW sized stuff that came with the set. Some have weighted loads so I get a bit of wheel spin when I throttle up. Of course the Magnetraction is negated due to running on Altas nickel-silver rails. I dropped in a 9V battery just to have all the shutdown sounds and that final release of steam is almost deafening. Smokes OK at high speed I guess but I'm really looking forward to seeing how the smoke perfoms under TMCC. Lionel! Hurry up with my Legacy!

Tee Hee Hee, Ha Ha. Sleep with one eye open, Yuz Giz.
Home from the store. Dead day at Bass Pro Shops.
John Baker would appreciate this. Several guys from UK wanted to buy my charger and take them back. Problem, they work on 110 and are 60 hz. Do you all have a converter?
Microwave popcorn. BTW: good luck to Oiho State in the playoffs. Also, the bassfishing lady I mentioned is originally from Ohio. Real Buckeye fan.
Question for the evening: Why is it everyone I meet is FROM Ohizo? Strange, they all leave.
GOOOD NIGHT.
Good evening all,
Nice spring like weather again today. Picked up my taxes at the accountants this morning. Pretty good amount due. Picked up some potting soil and worked in the greenhouse potting seedlings a while. No trains today. Got a call from Don and we discussed his coming trip to york.
We are heading to York tomorrow to check out traffic durring the road construction and also the large scale show. Hoping to meet Colin.
Take care,

We have so many Buckeyes that we don't have room for them all, so we send some south each winter. Many of them are packing to head home so they won't miss the fun this summer at Cedar Point and fishing in Lake Erie. Another reason that Buckeyes are imported into Florida, is that we speak English without an accent. This means the Canadians and the Hispanics can understand us as most of them are living in Florida, too. You notice that there are not many Michiganders in Florida. We won't let them drive thru Ohio.
Good evening everyone,
Well, we got here later than expected, because we left later than we thought we would. We enjoyed a very nice chat with a bunch of fellow G Gaugers here at the hotel. They were saying Trainworld has nothing left because the prices were amazing.
Jefelectric there was little construction traffic the way we came. We made it in about 1hr 15mins. Hope to see you there.
Evening all, I was off today and worked in the yard, played with grand kids and played with trains, then took the bride out for dinner. All in all a great day. When ever I wanted a laugh, I thought about Chief in costume. If the guys at Probass see you in tights, they may want you in costume to attract attention!

Here is a picture of a screw in fastener that I use a lot and have hung lots of curtin rods with. They are very easy to install and hold a lot of weight. I use them for my train shelving, that is how much I trust them
Putting in a road through the farm to the sawmill. Starting to take shape, got some logs and beams to clutter up the area. I've received some great ideas, but a limited amount of space, I'm quite limited.
God bless
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cloudy 50 degrees. Going up to 68 today with the chance of a few rain showers. I hope it doesn't.
Today, we are cleaning around the house. It has been a very sad week and a lot of things need to be attended to. Thank goodness, the kitchen is done. We are trying to stay busy, to keep from thinking. But that is a difficult thing to do. I may run trains later, I have not for a few days. Tried to, but never got to the train room. I will need to do some serious grass cutting soon. Buds on trees are coming out. Blooms are out, on the flowering cherry tree. Spring is here. I think.
NASCAR race from Martinsville, Sunday. # 20 to win.

I hope everyone has a good day.
