Good evening,
Doug & Roy, I got through raising two daughters pretty good, did lose most of my hair though. One of the daughters now has her own teen age daughter. I sent my SIL this little bit that I read somewhere. "A fathers worst nightmare is that his daughter will date someone just like he was at 17." I had a son too, but that was easy.
Bill, What brand are the B&O sharks, I probably missed it in an earlier post.
Brent, I had friends go to NC to buy furniture, don't recall the details, but they had it delivered to PA and still saved a bundle.
Rich, If you are a CNJ fan, check out the GP9s that Bob Thatcher has, I have both numbers and they are sweet runners, will pull anything I put behind them.

They are a special run so he is the only dealer for them.

Lee, there is nothing minor about kidney stones. My deepest sympathies.

Doug - he's actually getting a raise out of the deal either way - he's a very competitive and hard working guy! As for your daughter, you have my sympathy. I'm not looking forward to dealing with all those "young men" my daughter will be bringing around in a very few years at all

From what I hear, they have a 400% mark up by the time furniture makes it to the retailers in local market. I have friends that own a LOT of properties out in Colorado. They come down this way every year and then drive up to Hickory/High Point to buy furniture. It is worth it if you can take the time to go.

I used to work in a furniture store for 3 years (Heilig-Meyers before they went belly up) and I can attest that the mark up on furniture is unbelievable often 200 to 300% or more. I know this because when we did inventory we'd see the "cost" prices on every item, as well as the sales prices. The sales people in our store were allowed to negotiate up to 20% off the sticker price themselves. IMO, never, ever pay the sticker price at a retail furniture store; my first question when I find a piece that I'm interested in is simply, "what can we do with this price?" That gets me to my starting point in the haggling after that its the old "I'll have to check with my manager" line, which is where the real price will get worked out. If a furniture retailer won't move much in their prices then tip my hat and walk. BTW, I hate furniture buying because most sales people insist on acting like I don't know what's really going on, and I hate when people insult my intelligence.
Jim F - Wouldn't you know it - Steve Wall Lumber is about 3 miles from my house!
GregM - If you need me to make a stop-by or local call - email me!
BRENT - I can't help you but I bet Dewey T can. Try a Google search using "Furniture wholesalers in High Point, NC" - ton of info there.
BUCKEYE - You finally over your St. Paddies celebration? Must still be hungover - asking a Suthner for assistance!! (Actually I think you were only kidding and spent the whole day writing the story for those great pics you posted Sunday!)
Take care!

Good morning from New England.
A little rainy here today, but I'll take it over snow any day.
Off to Dr. Tinker's today to pick up my 2055. It's been gone for 5 weeks!
4 days until the big train show! Yippee Skippee!!
Lee, I hope you feel better soon! And that's no joke - get well, man!
Have a nice day, everyone.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a foggy, 42 degrees. Going up to 48 today, with some sun. It is very damp outside. The yard is like a wet sponge. Need a lot of sun.
Good Morning, Jim.
Today, I am taking it easy. Maybe, later I will take a walk with the boys. Vet gave Rockie a shot for cough. Every spring and fall, he gets this, when the weather changes. He also needs to lose a few pounds.
I might do some work on layout, later. It's nice, spending a few hours, each day, running trains and making layout better.
Well, Dining car is here. No stops at " points west ", yet. So, I will board, and have breakfast. Talk later.
Y'all have a great Tuesday.
Chuck
Mornin' boys. Mornin' Lisa. Didn't get much done on my little project yesterday, just figuring out curve radius and such.
Dewey T - I have a spare box of GRIP-RITE FAS'NERS coated sinker 16d 3-1/4". You're welcome to 'em in case you are crucifying anyone else today...
mitchelr - you picked the right time. Teachers in a dozen or so WV counties had a job action last Wednesday over pay.
Good morning all,
It is cool but supposed to be sunny today with temps in the low 50s in SE Indiana. Doug, as far as the daughter is concerned, been there, done that, twice. Both are now married and out of college with kids of their own. Lucas is still at home with us, but does not spend much time here except when he has his girl friend over. We try to give them some space, but we also try to keep a close eye on them as well. We think very highly of his girl friend and we do not want anything bad to happen to them. PM me if you want about the IM message. I like ATSFjr's "resource". When I was substitute teaching, I always wanted to mount a .50 caliber on the desk and fire off a few warning rounds to get the kids attention. For some reason, the school board frowned on that philosophy, muttering something about liability issues and parents being upset. Some people just don't believe in the value of a good education anymore:-)
This discussion gets better everyday with the talk of furniture values and the drive around the track at Indianapolis. There are a couple of options on the IMS visit. One is to ride in the two seater and the other is to drive a single seat car by yourself. That is tempting, but I know what can happen when something goes wrong, and I am not sure I want to splatter myself against a SAFER barrier.
Once again, "Points East" was up before me evidently, but I got the last two bran muffins on the dining car. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana

CHIEF - by chance, were you trying to get in 18 holes in Suffolk, VA yesterday morning...?
Morning all.
Chief, glad you made it back. After a little train time and some chance to catch up on your sleep, you may have to go back and read a few pages to defend your honor....just kidding, I think Buckeye and the rest took it easy this time. I guess they figured you had a laptop right with you at BPS and could fire back.
Dewey, hope that your issue can be resolved with that guy. even though you had written the engines off, perhaps this guy is trying to restore his honor, or be able to sleep at night. I did not know him or the situation, but was suprised by the whole post.
Lisa, how are you? How is the job search going? My bride keeps mentioning that she may want to quit all together so she can stay at home and shuttle the kids to school.....which is the excuse she gave for wanting this new job. Oh well, as long as she is happy.
She who must be obeyed went shopping this weekend with my daughter. While my son and I worked on the layout, she shopped for several hours. Upon her return, she said that she looked down at one point and thought about how much she had spent and then remembered THE TRAINS! so she kept shopping. After she had unloaded all the bags, I noticed a new pocket book hanging on the door handle. I asked if it was new....."Yes" was the answer, to which I could only answer "Looks Great Honey"...... I think I will go buy a train.

Dennis, beware the slippery slope of escalation! Next time, she'll bring home a Prada purse, you'll be forced to respond with a 3rd Rail brass engine, the children will have to go without shoes . . .
Sunny and cool this am in Prattville, AL. The CTT truck arrived yesterday - mine is very nice. I especially like the CD changer and the leather upholstery, although the shifter seems a bit balky going from 3rd to 4th gear. Good view of the road from the cab, too.
What?
Good Morning from the Bluegrass!!
It's 53 degrees, overcast and rainy here today with a forecast for more of the same. I had some time yesterday to tinker on the benchwork. I had been noticing that I was getting a deceleration in the 6 to 3 o'clock and then acceleration from 12 to 9, my transformer section of track is at the 6 o'clock so I knew it wasn't a power problem, plus if an 80 watt transformer can't power a 40x60 then there are big problems. So I got my tape measure and level out. Well, the height of the benchwork was almost exactly the same at all four corners. The level told the real story. By the time I finished shimming the benchwork on its table I took my tape measure back out, and now the greatest difference was more than 1/3rd of an inch, and this is on a concrete floor! Now, I'm able to run the Pole Ex at a nice slow pace (around 40%) with no deceleration. This is what I really like to do, that way I can really watch the wheel action as the Berkshire pulls around the track. No speed demon here, just a nice slow comfortable ride for those kiddies on their way to see Santa.
Hello from Sunny FLA....Its about 60ish today hitting 73, partly cloudy. No trains last night, had to pick up my Dancing Daughter from a school dance trip to Walter World. Got home past midnight. Then off to the job at 7.
John(jfelectric) thanks for the heads up, I looked at the GP7, but for right now it is a bit pricey, I have to liquidate a few items (motorcycle, hotwheels... ) so we can proceed on the new house thing. Found a new construction waiting to be sold....need a retainer of 3% to hold it and I'm thaaaat clooose to getting it. Minimal yard, so the lawn mower can go and most of the yard maintainance stuff. More room in the G-rage for my 4 wheel toy!!! And so it goes...
Will catch up later!
Rich

Good morning from a sunny and cold Chicago where it is still winter though without the snow.John and Mike C, it is nice to hear your teenage daughters grew up successfully. We had our share of drama last night but I survived without having to bring out the trunk monkey - I think I can feel my hair falling out though.
Dr. John, LOL. I just spent a bundle on new furniture or rather the bride did - at a local place called Ashley Furniture. You order what you like in the showroom and they make it at their plant in Wisconsin. It was far less expensive than the comparable Wickes or Ethan Allens.
I had a special treat this morning. The UP's executive business train was in the Chicago passenger station a few tracks over when our scoot pulled in. I had to walk over after writing a check to the UP for a new ticket, and wander up the and down the platform, looking up at the windows like a foamer.
Boy, would it have been something to ride a train like this in its prime! It is in spotless condition. The engine was off getting serviced but there's a B unit-like power car, plenty of people eating breakfast in the dining car, a mid-train dome car, the track inspection car on the rear with a sort of garage door pulled down over it - opposite the power car was a beautiful obs car with a streamlined open platform, a few sleepers and even one car that had workout equipment. Highlight of my day! Wish I had a camera phone.I also got another treat - a package of old magazines I had traded some CTTs for. Model Builders from 1943, 44, 46 and 48. Neat to imagine the lineage going back in sharing the hobby. Can't wait to share what I read.

Morning all from a sunny and warming NC. The pollen is increasing daily so spring is definitely here.
Dennis - Still looking for just the right job. Plenty of nursing jobs out there but not interested in hospital or doctor's office. Have a couple of interviews this week. Really loved doing the medical record analysis.
Just got the news - my son's beagle "Sarah" is about to give birth - so I guess I'm going to be a "great-grandma" very soon! May have to assist in the delivery today!!
Have a great day!!

Lisa, we have soooo much pollen, it is rediculous. My black car is pale green, so is the dark green truck, and the white car, all the same color. I will get it washed, the next day it looks just as bad. It also plays havoc on the allergies. My poor son has his eyes about swollen shut from all the allergens. It has been plenty warm here and I suspect it will only get worse. good luck in the job hunt.
Good morning everyone,
Just got back from the doc's. Don't have to wear the splint anymore except for strenuous activity and to sleep at night. Just have to keep two fingers taped together most of the time till next visit.
Now maybe I will be able to do a little train work. Need to finish the TMCC conversion of my Docksider.
Lisa, Good luck in the job hunt. Have you checked out the drug companies? Of course that usually involves travel.

Due to a National Religious Holiday, we did take it easy on the Chief this time. I was also busy sitting in my fine court side seats at the NCAA games at Nationwide Arena and then of course there were the parties.
How can pollen be in the air? The ice is still on the lakes in Northern Ohio.
