Seems we have the same menu planned for tomorrow, Roy!

Just got done watching A Holiday Affair. Great Lionel 2343s featured! Good movie. First time I've seen it.

Off to family's house now for Christmas Eve dinner and presents.

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas

To all my friends here on the "pot"!

Still here at work, supposed to leave here at 4pm.  Get out of here, take a nap then off to church for Midnight Mass (which, for he first time in recent memory, it is actually at Midnight!), which we will leave the abode at 10:30pm.  Carols at 11:30 Mass at 12:00.  Then, a short nap, help Santa wrap presents, then another short nap, I'm sure my 15 y/o will get us out of bed about 6 or so, unwrapping the morning.  I'll start cooking at 11 or so.  Turkey Dinner with all the trimmings (just had no more cash for pie...).  Should crash face first into the bed by 6pm.  Of course, making sure I get my Christmas Story fix during the day.  Probably pop in my favorite It's a Wonderful Life.  Funny, I haven't seen all of it yet...this year....Whistling [:-^]

Please remember those who protect us, Fire Police and Military, they are there for us while we party...

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL!

Hope everyone is having a relaxing Christmas Eve!  I know we are!

Got my shopping completed last night as they kicked me out of the store. The better half will do well this year! He-who-is-14 is at high alert status and as Don B might say - he is throwing off sparks. She-who-is-16 is at work. She gets off in time to join us for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner out (Texas Land and Cattle Co - guess what we are having!) and then we head to church for the 9 pm Christmas Eve services - where she-who-is-16 sings in the choir. Our church has 5 services today culminating with the midnight service.

Tomorrow we will be joined by some good friends about 4 pm for Christmas dinner at our house (we alternate each year). Traditional fare with turkey, dressing, mashed potatos, veggie dish, cranberry sauce, brown & giblet gravy, pumpkin pie, and chocolate pie (both pies homemade - yum!).

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Thank you all for your help and encouragement in building our gamesroom/train layout.

Good morning folk and Merry Christmas to all!  Will go to my parent's later for a big ham dinner, then stay at home and enjoy the day tomorrow.  Thanks for the headsup, I set the dvr to tape that movie on TCM - can't wait to watch it!  We're watching Godzilla vs the Astro Monster right now (King Ghidorah)!  No trains yet, but you know a toy train is going to meet it's maker sooner or later!  Laugh [(-D]

Gentlemen and ladies of the coffee pot,

I don't post often, but I enjoy reading your posts.  The warmth, humor and support I feel here is why I know model railroading is the best hobby in the world.

A very Merry and Blessed Christmas to you all and a Joyous and Prosperous New Year!!!

Yes you can stop and visit the car.

Beginning December 1, 2007 the new Willoughby Area Welcome Center will be open in the historic train car located at Willoughby Coal & Garden Center, 3872 Erie Street. The Welcome Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed to educate visitors and residents about the history and uniqueness of the Willoughby area. The Welcome Center will be open Saturdays from 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Those who board the train car will find souvenirs and interesting displays such as the history of the American Freedom Train, and vintage medical artifacts commemorating the Willoughby Medical College. Additionally, a model train exhibit depicting the 1926 Interurban railway will be completed in early 2008. Anyone interested in volunteering, making a donation, or other information please call 440-942-1905.

this car was part of the American Freedom Train from the 40's (I think).

there are a few more pics of it at www.willoughbyohio.com

It was in Sharon, PA before being moved to Willoughby.

You should also make plans on stoping by 'The Western Reserve Model Railroad Musuem' in Mentor.

Almost forget to mention this -

A Holiday Affair (1950) will be playing on Turner Classic Movies this afternoon at 1:45. Don't miss it. Lionel trains play an important role in the film. Post war Lionel trains!

Good morning from New England!

It's 8:55 and I just woke up! What an odd feeling! The day is half over! Last thing I remember, Santa was leaving my kids a message on the phone's answering machine. The old elf seems to have a southern drawl!

Great to see Lisa posting! Thanks for the kind words, Lisa!

Bruce, is that a Corvair I see?!

Merry Christmas!

Morning Folks.

Back home safe and sound after a journey to Northern Virginia yesterday. Exchanged gifts and had dinner with BIL and SIL.  Their youngest was sick in bed all day.  We missed her lively spirit and energy.  It was much too quiet without her.  Dinner was awesome.  My BIL is as great cook.  He made a prime rib roast that was out of this world.

Have to run some errands today. Saturday AM took my son out to breakfast and our favorite restaurant is closed for an extended vacation. Sad [:(]  So we wind up at another place.  Had to run out  to ATM since the place did not take credit cards and I was short on cash Whistling [:-^]... Left ATM card in machine and when I tried to back up to get it, the machine had swallowed it.  Also need to hit a supermarket to find a flank steak for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner.  My son and I have been making this dinner since he was bout 3.  That Christmas Eve the Mrs. was under the weather with a migraine.  She was trying to sleep to get rid of it, so we made dinner.  The main dish is  rolled flank steak tournedos served with hollandaise.  Yummm.

Here's hoping that everyone has a Merry Christmas.   Take care.  Run some trains....

Mitch

I had hoped to stop by and read some great Christmas stories of kids and trains and the like.  Please, no reason to rehash old arguments...does not help.  Forgive and move on.

God Bless,

Good evening freinds!

I appologize for not being active on the forum lately.  Been busy with family, work and most importantly my 12 step program.  So much for annonimity,eh? Wink [;)]

This doesn't mean the trains have been put on the back burner....NO WAY!  I've amassed quite a few new items over the past year....some PW, some Standard Gauge and some scale O for the future big layout.  2 recent scale engines have EOB which is totally awesome for someone like me who likes crawling motive power.  No more dreaded stalling on curves or inclines.

Aside from the sounds, Atlas sure has done a wonderful job on their new 0-6-0.  It's good to have small engines that run so smoothly yet can still pull a 15 car train with ease.  Can't wait too see how Legacy improves on the performance.

Now that outdoor work has stopped ( rebuilt the garage last summer and fall ) I can move indoors.  There's a few small honey doos to finish and then I'm back to working on the attic where the new layout will be located.  I will not have the head room needed for a proper room.  I plan to compensate by having rolling office chairs and a table top height of about 3' to keep things generally at eye level.

I hope this note finds you all happy and healthy and sincerly wish you all a Merry Christmas.

  It's good to be back!

Good evening all,

It is windy and cold in SE Indiana today.  I spent the last two days at the local historical society.  Saturday we had ONE visitor, but he did stay about half hour.  Today we had over ten, but two of them were Lucas and his girlfriend.  Jumijo, thanks for the comments on the Cheap Classic articles.  Unfortunately, Lionel has stopped making most of the series that I wrote about.  The only line still made is the two-bay hoppers.  I have some ideas from time to time, but I have to have time to write them down.  Good to hear the surgery went well for you, tmcc man, and hope your recovery goes well, too.

We have been watching Christmas movies lately.  We watched "Ernest Saves Christmas" last night and "The Polar Express" last night.  I also washed three vehicles yesterday as it was fairly warm outside, and I ran the 318E in the attic last night.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
