Well lets see Roy, these are the 'facts' *some of this has been decifered from the messages he's posted* as they have been presented to the forum...

Chief got tired of the Beavers damming up the watershed using techniques not approved by the State Department of Environmental Protection so he tried to shoot them, but his marksmanship isn't what it used to be, and this led some unsightly folk into thinking it was acceptable to poach around the pond.  Now the deer, being drawn to the early algae bloom, found this to be a savory spot to get a drink and meal of lush vegetation, not to mention the oats Chief uses to keep tempting them to his property... Well on one fateful day, after a nice fatening meal, they were attempting to return to their sanctuary and one was unceremoneously shot and mortally wounded.  Thinking that the pond, and its savory algae, was the fabled Fountain of Youth that would restore its vitality, the deer attempted to return and take a drink of the envigoring fluid, unfortanetly the pond was a tad bit too far and the deer died upon its banks!  The Chief, having hear the afore mentioned gun shooting racket, left the comforts of his cottage (clad in a Speedo bathing suit, and riding a John Deere lawn tractor) went to investigate.  He found the deer, loaded it in the utility cart and took it home.  Now, seeing that there was a full moon out, sheding plenty of light on the subject, The Chief - in all his neighborly glory, decides to mow his neighbor's lawn.  The neighbor, who was once neighborly - but who in recent months has become out of his wits, did not take nicely to The Chief mowing his lawn.  So Chief decides the view from his cottage is not quite what it once was decides to have his trees trimmed and the afore mentioned neighbor does not like tree trimming any more than he likes having his lawn mowed.  So now Chief has an upset neighbor, is trying to get him tossed out of town, and is now trying to figure out what to do with this deer that's wasting precious space in his deep freeze...

Of course the other theory is that the Beavers, fearing for their lives, obtained firearms off the black market and took matters into their own hands by shooting the deer as a warning for other wildlife thinking THEIR pond was a source of drinking water...

Just got done talking to a rep from a stone/epoxy floor covering company, this is the second company that I got a quote from they were both fairly close in price the big difference in the products line was in the use of materials reasin and thiner used company B usees zylene and company N use an alcohol based thiner which evaporates and is nearly oderless and is "green friendly" it cost much more than carpet but does not promote mildew and mold like wet carpet does. Am really leaning towards this type of floor covering

Afternoon all!

Lots o' catching up to do. Just a few days left til nirvana in York.

Don B - I am not sure what is really happening out there but it sounds like your continued health is in serious jepardy - sit back and take a deep breath and stand clear of the forbidden zone!

Still catching up from my trip to KC last week and had a very busy weekend preparing for York and other train activities.

Hope all are well and that the Chief has fun with his dead/floating deer? What ever happened to the beavers? Are they armed?

Regards, Roy

Jim, Take a look at the "G" scale listings on E-Bay, those "hobo campfire" accessories are almost always there.

Just back from a noon time walk. It's gorgeous out there. Clear and crisp. Each day I check on the progress of a house being built way down the street. The lot had a house on it that was torn down so a bigger one could be built. It's almost finished from the looks of it.

Got the dentist to look forward to today at 3:30. That's tooth hurty central time...Big Smile [:D] Anyway, the hygenist is a babe, so it's not going to be all bad.

Campfire tonight. If I don't completely forget about it.

Chief,

That sounds like my car! Big Smile [:D]  The underbody is a mess, and it is only a 97.

Jim A.

If you wanted to simulate a larger fire (bonfire), you could but a lamp socket in the surface of your layout and put one of those flickering bulbs in it.  Then, just pile some small branches around it.  I saw that in Toy Trains and Christmas part 3, and it looked pretty good.

I have today off, so I am rebuilding the 2343.

I think that the Chief should put that dead deer from the pond in the guys bed with him like in the Godfather movie. Kind of a message thing. But knowing the Chief, he'll throw a dead beaver through the guy's window with a note! "Leev me aloan or elsh!" Written in crayon of course. Laugh [(-D]

Good morning all from a quiet and sunny Chicago where there are only a few people out and about today - where is everyone? Is it still the weekend? Is it some new holiday I missed? Maybe they're home mourning da Bears...

Buckeye, that meet was indeed at the DuPage Cty Fairgrounds: five buildings, hundreds of vendors. The biggest thing I've ever seen but then I don't get out much.

Mike C, our fellow forumite whose church produced Facing the Giants is our own dwiemer - Dennis. You can search his moniker to find his profile.

Jim A, a clever idea for your hobo fire. Thought of you whilst roaming the halls at the DuPage show. Lots of odds-and-ends you could've turned into something.

Well, I'm officially beginning my search for Thomas and his ilk today... I'm in no hurry though wish me luck.

My next project is going to be a small one. I'm going to make a battery-powered camp fire for placement near the hobo shacks on our layout. Tonight I'll have the kids scrounge up some tiny sticks and we will glue them together in some kind of campfire shape. Then the battery powered light will go in underneath. Should be fun and quick to do.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps near 80.  Dbaker, I like your thinking and creativity, but I have a feeling your line may soon file for abandonment on the new extension.  I did see the headlines on the I-5 wreck, but I had not read the details.  That is truly sad what happened.  Chief, I hope you get your neighborly issues settled.  Buckeye, congrats on OSU being number one.  With the number of upsets occurring this year, who knows where any team will be at the end of the season.

It was a busy weekend.  Friday night mowed the yard and went to the YMCA.  Watched three hours of TV ("Deal or No Deal", "Moonlight", and "Numb3rs").  Saturday did some housework, reffed an 11 AM soccer game, had lunch, went to a local craft show at the elementary school and book sale at the library with the wife (bought a nice railroad book by Lucius Beebe), reffed a 3:30 PM soccer game, and came home and got cleaned up so I could out with Lucas and some of his friends to help celebrate one of his friend's 18th birthday.  The dad of the birthday boy drove so I did not have to.  We went to Hooter's in Greenwood, and then to Border's bookstore.  Watched a little of the NASCAR race, which Jeff Gordon won.  Sunday went to church, went to the YMCA, ate lunch and went to a choir concert that Lucas was in.  They have a new teacher this year and it shows in the much better singing.  Drove around the Honda plant and got some Halloween "stuff".  Put up the Halloween decorations (including some new orange lights for the outside, really looks sharp), helped Lucas with an English paper and watched "Desperate Housewives", which was really good.

Dining car had bran muffins from "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

PS  There was an article in the weekly magazine that comes with the local newspaper about "Facing the Giants".  I think one of the forumites was involved in this movie, but I cannot remember who.  I was telling my wife that I knew of someone involved in this, but would whoever it is please refresh my memory?  Thank you.
