Checked Lionel's website this morning. They will be demonstrating the Legacy Command System at York. Looking forward to reports from the "Yorkies" who are lucky enough to attend.

Got speaker wire at Radio Shack yeterday to rewire my 282 crane. Now to find time to do it and finish laying track for crane to ride on. Had a spare piece of Gargraves S gauge track, cut the wooden ties and now have two flex track rails to lay around the curve where the crane will be!

Wes--

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed the trip, it's hard to describe how beautiful that train trip is until you actually experience it. We were also in the open gondola car, I can't imagine being locked up in the stuffy passenger cars. Did you stay warm enough and did you get snowed on?

Will be anxious to see your pics and vid's.

Jon

Thanks for the compliments.  But, I think that yours have mine beat by a long shot.  I am working on getting the 2530 series aluminum cars; two down, one to go.

Fife - yes yesterday was VERY slow... Laugh [(-D]

Then I got home and was I ever paid back for making fun of The Chief!

I got the soffets done for the vanity lights.  Then I started on the toilet room... I started to remove the toilet and when I removed the first flange screw everything looked OK, then I went to the other side and found a #14 phillips head screw Confused [%-)] getting worried here, this is NEVER a good sign.  Removed the screw and pulled out the toilet, take toilet to storage room, get back and look at floor... wet plywood around flange... bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad sign.  So I start removing tile and it just pops out... thinkset no longer holding... now I have a towel stuffed down the drain to prevent sewage odors from coming into the room and I smell something... something very nasty... start looking around and notice something black on the drywall behind the toilet... yep black mold!  Then I notice a small puddle of water around the supply line... down to the basement, turn off water, cut line, install CPVC cap... continue popping out tile... 2 hours later, turn on water - no leaks... so now I have to rip out the plywood underlayment and see what I'm dealing with... hopefully I don't have to rip out the subfloor, but if I do it is no biggie because I am now going to reposition the shutoff valve and will probably have to replace the toilet drain and flange.  So my goal of tiling the tub tonight is shot and I'm now 6 days behind schedule... Banged Head [banghead] When I was staring at the floor last night, Susan came up behind me, gave me a hug, and said, 'It is a little set back, calm down and think it through and you'll be fine. So what if we can't use the toilet room this weekend - there are 3 others in the house, just aim to get the main room done.'

Didn't do much for my irritation at the sloppy plumbing job, but it did help me to calm down and relax so I could sleep last night...

OH - also fixed my computer last night... seems Norton doesn't provide protection against spyware/adware and I got nailed, installed Spyware Detector and it zapped everything and now my computer is faster than ever!  Downloading at 9Mbps and uploading at 2.5Mbps! Thumbs Up [tup]

Good morning fellas.  Just catching up on a couple of pages since I left for Durango, Colorado last Thursday.  I just wanted to say that the Durango & Silverton narrow guage RR is all that everyone told me it would be.  I took some really great photos and video.  I met some good people along the way as well.  It was a really great trip.  I spent most of the time hanging out of the side of the open gondola and my face was covered in soot from the steam engine.  It was a great souvenier.  Colorado sure is a pretty state.

Ohio seems to be a very "sporty" state right now.  Now if our hockey team woud get on a winning streak!

Good morning all,

It is raining in SE Indiana with temps rising to the 70s today.  Doug, thank you for the information about the movie.  I like the saga of the beavers and the deer as there is nothing better than a deer beaver story (oops, did I pull a jumijo there?).  Dbaker, I am glad you are still among the living (re: the railroad "expansion").  Last night was busy as I did 30 minutes of trackwork at the YMCA (and set a new personal best for that time frame).  My wife and I helped Lucas with his English paper.  If he gets a C, that will be good enough.  Watched Helio on "Dancing with the Stars".  Lucas brought home a copy of the Columbus paper, which had a picture of yours truly talking to Sarah Fisher.  That made it a good night.

The dining car had just the usual fare from "Points East".  Has anybody heard anything about the new MTH Tinplate catalog?  I wonder if they are even making one this year.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 50 degrees. Sun is trying to shine. Going up to 76 today, with a chance of showers.

Today, I have a few errands to run and then this afternoon, I will run trains for awhile. Need to relax. Been busy on all kinds of projects. Need to get busy with layout. Aches and pains are a daily thing, anymore. As the weather gets colder. I can feel it more.

Indians won last night. Won 2 games to Red Sox 1. Game 4 tonite.

Dining car is here and ready for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Good morning from New England, where another picture postcard weather day is in store. High expected for today is 64. Nice walking weather (if I can walk - my back is killing me).

I brought a heating pad to work today for my back. With the cool weather comes the aches and pains of a man my age.

Jim T. - those 2343s are gorgeous! Very, very, very nice! I hope they run as well as they look. I USED to have the finest set on the forum! Wink [;)] Thanks for posting those photos. What a treat!

RT, buy yourself some new shells on Ebay. You don't have to buy them both at once. Buy one, then get another when you have the money, honey. Just make sure the decals match (red or black).

Kurt, the teefers are fine. I don't, I say I don't have the best looking choppers, but they are holding up very well. And that hygenist! Liz - She's a doll! At one point she stopped and asked me if I was doing ok. I looked at her and those huge brown eyes and a face wrapped in long, dark hair and said, "oh yeah"!  I might start eating rocks in hopes of chipping a tooth just to go see her again.

Obviously you are not yelling at or hitting your girls enough if they are messing with your trains when they are moving. Go all psycho on them once or twice and that behavior will stop. Laugh [(-D]

My kids went out for dinner last night with their grandparents and I had the place all to myself for a few hours. I missed them!

Mama Mia, Jim, those are nice F3s!

Morning:

Doug:  Count me in!  I simply don't have the room to work an n-gauge into this year's Christmas layout...So a small trolly would be wonderful!  Please provide a recommendation, I'm thinking point to point or maybe a O-27 loop around the outside.  Not crazy about the Lionel trolleys.  Shock [:O]   I've been seeing the Thomas sets for $129.

Sir James:  I've been good ... so far.  I let a 182 crane go and a 1688...  Really hard not to pick up the 1688.  I did pick-up a flat car with some Kenworths.

Jumijo:  How's the teefers?

Ran trains with the girls yesterday...twice!  What is it with kids and having to touch moving objects???  Oldest likes to open and close boxcar doors as they go by, and unload the milk cans.  Only one big derailment, oldest put half the herd on its side right off the tracks.  I was having so much fun with them it didn't matter that they were two of the PW milk cars, and the new 6464 Monon.

Sir James and John S, we have some goodies here - one donut left (pink ribbon day at the store so it's with pink icing, but tastes like chocolate) as well as several types of chips, popcorn or icecream!  Chewy is getting a little thin lately!

RT,

Keep an eye on ebay.  These shells go across the block all the time.  Believe me, my 2343s looked like they came from a junk bin when I bought them.  It wasn't hard or expensive to get the shell I needed, or the detail parts from our friend Jeff.

Very nice pics of your loco's, James T!

Mitch, Fifedog, John F and 88 -- Turns out they wanted to train me to be a trainer for 10 days in Baltimore, then send me to ??? for 3.5 weeks at a time?  I would be gone for 2 plus months a year for no more pay.  I told boss' boss that I'll be glad to go get training and then do training locally, or do a week away here and there, but nearly a month at a time is just too much!  One guy in our office is doing it and he's actually been gone about every other month for the past year - Confused [%-)]  Sorry - hope to catch up to you all next year in York though, depending on finances.

I just sent you a private message regarding your 2343s. You might find some of the information about making them look better useful.

Evening all

Sounds like the begining of an interesting novel, I like Roy's title.

I'd be interested in how the floor turns out.  Our back porch could use some refinishing and I'm thinking of the stuff you are using.

Only had to work 9 hours OT today.  Got home and still had enough light to work on the concrete forms for the garage addition pad.  Plan on working on it tomorrow while I'm off.

Don-Please be careful around the china.  If you need a place to hide till the heat passes, you can use the bed in the train room.

All take care and may God bless

Sounds like you had some fun today with those 2343s, Jim. A set of nice 2500 series aluminum passenger cars would look great behind those diesels. Please post some recent photos when you can.

Jim,

I finally got the 2343s back together.  I put the new e unit in, put new brushes in both motors, cleaned the armatures, oiled bearings, put in new grease, replaced the original thin three conductor cable with heavier superflex three conductor cable, and changed the light bulb.  It runs much better.  I noticed that it could use new rollers though.  Right now, I am working on giving it something nicer to pull...

lionroar, the flooring is a one time installation and is permanent and supposably trouble free, the epoxy resian only yellows if in direct sun light, a neigbour has it on porch and sidewalk and back steps it looks nice and has been there for 20+ years. Will be going with company N as they have a warrenty and are a "green" company and have been around the longest of any company in the business. will post some before and after pics of basement.

If you wanted to simulate a larger fire (bonfire), you could but a lamp socket in the surface of your layout and put one of those flickering bulbs in it.  Then, just pile some small branches around it.  I saw that in Toy Trains and Christmas part 3, and it looked pretty good.

I have today off, so I am rebuilding the 2343.

Jim, I just saw your post now. I have a flickering light and battery unit that is smaller than my smallest fingernail. But for a nice bon fire, your idea is definitely the way to go.

Let us know how those 2343s turn out. Best of luck! I'm looking at a nice set of 2354s on Ebay  (Trainz) today, but that's all I'm doing is looking. Not buying any more trains for a while.

Ahhh, peace and quiet. The kids went out to eat with their grandparents. Work has begun on zee campfire. So far, so good.

Well lets see Roy, these are the 'facts' *some of this has been decifered from the messages he's posted* as they have been presented to the forum...

Chief got tired of the Beavers damming up the watershed using techniques not approved by the State Department of Environmental Protection so he tried to shoot them, but his marksmanship isn't what it used to be, and this led some unsightly folk into thinking it was acceptable to poach around the pond.  Now the deer, being drawn to the early algae bloom, found this to be a savory spot to get a drink and meal of lush vegetation, not to mention the oats Chief uses to keep tempting them to his property... Well on one fateful day, after a nice fatening meal, they were attempting to return to their sanctuary and one was unceremoneously shot and mortally wounded.  Thinking that the pond, and its savory algae, was the fabled Fountain of Youth that would restore its vitality, the deer attempted to return and take a drink of the envigoring fluid, unfortanetly the pond was a tad bit too far and the deer died upon its banks!  The Chief, having hear the afore mentioned gun shooting racket, left the comforts of his cottage (clad in a Speedo bathing suit, and riding a John Deere lawn tractor) went to investigate.  He found the deer, loaded it in the utility cart and took it home.  Now, seeing that there was a full moon out, sheding plenty of light on the subject, The Chief - in all his neighborly glory, decides to mow his neighbor's lawn.  The neighbor, who was once neighborly - but who in recent months has become out of his wits, did not take nicely to The Chief mowing his lawn.  So Chief decides the view from his cottage is not quite what it once was decides to have his trees trimmed and the afore mentioned neighbor does not like tree trimming any more than he likes having his lawn mowed.  So now Chief has an upset neighbor, is trying to get him tossed out of town, and is now trying to figure out what to do with this deer that's wasting precious space in his deep freeze...

Of course the other theory is that the Beavers, fearing for their lives, obtained firearms off the black market and took matters into their own hands by shooting the deer as a warning for other wildlife thinking THEIR pond was a source of drinking water...

un-huh....and next week on "As the Deer turns"....

Regards, Roy

Just got done talking to a rep from a stone/epoxy floor covering company, this is the second company that I got a quote from they were both fairly close in price the big difference in the products line was in the use of materials reasin and thiner used company B usees zylene and company N use an alcohol based thiner which evaporates and is nearly oderless and is "green friendly" it cost much more than carpet but does not promote mildew and mold like wet carpet does. Am really leaning towards this type of floor covering

CSXect - have you looking into the 4 x 4 plywood sheets that have the moisture barrier attached to them?  It's like diamond plate rubber... you can put carpet on it or you could put hardibacker on it and then tile... maybe cheaper than what you are looking at...
