Flintlock, The Illinois river valley was cut in by glaciers millions of years ago it covers the Illinois river and the Fox river valley. If you go up to Wisconsin you have the Dells and all of that is the same. For the most part, Illinois is about as flat and rich of farm land you can find. Like where I grew up. Plainfield, think about it???Don’t call it Plain for nothing. So, what we have here is special, why we love it

Good evening all,

Cloudy, cool miserable day here.  Did make a donut run this morning and watched English Premiere League this afternoon.  Going to do a puzzle with wife tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Thanks KRM, that's interesting, I hadn't thought of that.  By the way, the topography of your property reminds me of the surviving Civil War fortifications around Richmond, they look strikingly similar, that is, the eroded earthworks and your hills.

When I was a little boy growing up in northern New Jersey there was a spring in the area that was very popular with some of the old-timers like my grandparents.  Ocasionally they'd make a trip to it with empty gallon wine jugs to fill with the spring water.  It was very tasty!  Eventually development killed the spring.  Too bad.

Chief, I have to ask.  Are bears good to eat?  And don't tell me they taste like chicken!

I've got a question about the creek.  Is it spring fed?  From the pictures I get the impression it starts on your property and then goes on its merry way.

Flintlock,,,No it is all surface drainage from many fields about 3/4 mile north of here. Five ditches run into it. So there are times where it is dry, but most of the time there is something running. The guy to the south of me already damed his place, dug a pond and used the dirt to make a drive into his place to get through the deep ravine. They can not push water on to any one up streem so his pond stops at the property line.

MAN Chief, glad we don't have any of them there Bears here. What a PITA they can be. Mark my friend has them up north and they tear up everything. Like Fife talks about. Cool pictures!

This was shot this AM across the highway from my woods at the farms.  One less deer feeder "raider".  They do a lot of damage to one as so big.  Even though they are 55 gal barrels and tall conduit with conduit inside that.  All screwed and bolted together.

there was a guy standing on the top of the ravine on the south side of the creek. I don't think he belonged there because he did not wave, just scurried off as soon as he saw me coming with the Gator. Not our property, right on it but I have never seen anyone over there?

I hope he's not a damn developer.

Good morning, Still nice but cooler and that is fine. Went down to the creek to check the fire and there was a guy standing on the top of the ravine on the south side of the creek. I don't think he belonged there because he did not wave, just scurried off as soon as he saw me coming with the Gator. Not our property, right on it but I have never seen anyone over there?

I should be done with as much clean up as needed today. Got all of the big stuff out of the creek that will stop the flow. Yes That was the goal.

Chief, wife treats the wildlive here like they are her kids. Laugh

Thanks Flintlock, we have been in love with this place 16+ years now. Here are the shots I wanted to show yesterday but got lost, for those who care to look. Kind of bare out there now, Shake and Bake Don has been out here and saw it in the summer bloom. Wink

There was a tree acroos here I removed.

Looking north

Looking south, that guy was on the top of the ridge.

There was all the oak tops accross it here.

Sunny and 59 degrees. Nice out. Wifey still making me do restrictions. Actually 3 days up this afternoon. She is off again to her Dad's house to hopefully finish up things. SisterIL [bad one] from VA was to come and get rest of her stuff today. Now tomorrow. We'll see.

KEV, we put out one can over fence all the time.  Yesterday they got old cereal and some candy.  Yes they eat it all.  Bread, donuts and etc.

Close friend of ours having birthday party this afternoon late. Just her kids, grandkids and us. Her kids all got tested so they feel OK about gathering. Since I have been around the lady who is the birthday girl, I feel OK about attending.

Our Thanksgiving is us, the kids, their spouses, Grandson and one Granddaughter. Been around them too. No SisterIL, hubby, their kids and their spouses as previously planned. Got changed.

Have a good day.

Marty, Prayers for your dad,, pneumonia is bad. I won’t go into how some will say it is not COVID related. Nuts.
Wow, great day today, hit 64, five years ago it snowed 11.5”. never know in North Central IL.
I spent the day down at the creek clearing and burning down wood. Started at 8:30 and worked till dark. Nice and clear now and should be good for next spring’s rains.
Frank, I do one coffee can of corn a day and put it out in the morning. We don’t start till all of the underbrush is gone or we have snow cover. Only when the temps fall below 10 degrees, I will go to two coffee cans a day. First come first served. Don’t know why Charlie had to strike out at me but no surprise, lots of guys are out on their own. Like in the movie,,”you can’t handle the truth”
Here is a shot of the creek somehow my pictures I tooktoday went to the moon.

Morning.  54 and sunny.  Warmed up fast.  Goofing off as still on lifting restrictions.  Get off tomorrow afternoon.  Boring.  Stuffed sausage biscuits from the frig beeped.  Plenty of coffee.

Ran my newly setup double stack rain late yesterday afternoon.  Looks impressive and ran great at high speed [scale wise].  While doing that, setup two new trail cameras to take to the farms Monday.  Beef up the stairs to two stands and maybe hunt that afternoon.

NC set a new all time daily record of new cases of COVID.  Also, hospitalizations.  Gov. sitting on his butt and doing nothing.  We are still not sure about Thanksgiving.  Will be kids, Grandson [3] and one Granddaughter.  Problem.  Her county [not ours] school system has is one of the largest number of positive kids [1,600] in the state.  Her school only has one right now.  Saw my primary and two specialist this week.  All say state needs to back restrictions back down.  Limit gatherings to small immediate family.

I run 6 feeders with stands some distances from each.  Run three year around for feeding pregnant does.  Drop corn and pellets in all shooting lanes during the day before hunting.  Watch a lot of deer.  Only shoot one a year and it has to be big or an old cull.  Some years, don't shoot anything.  Squirrels and turkeys love the feeders.  Love watching the wildlife.

Enjoy the day.

TGIF - It's finally Friday!!

Drill was cancelled, last minute, new COVID rules state can't have more than 10 people in the building......great.  The dictator of NJ has spoken!!!
Mom had a guy over for a gutter guard system, $5600 for the whole house, which is fine.  Fixed a clock for Mom and did more politicking for the fire dept.  And now, we're discussing a ZOOM meeting since we can't get all 50 people in the meeting room.  This is nuts.

Sunny and 43 (I stole that from Fife!) here in Central Jersey going up to 60 later.

Not much going on, I did win an Ethan Allen wingback chair for the train attic for $1.06 at auction.  Jenni now has a place to sit when I'm working ont stuff.

Prayers for Roy and Marty's Dad

Got 700# of deer feed

Isn't baiting deer illegal in Illinois and feeding them for viewing frowned upon for the spread of disease?  Just curious considering how stupid you claim people are about Covid.

 Fixed it for you.

Nice to see you spooner/and any other name your are hiding under climb out of your hole. Guess I should be clear, We don't hunt or kill like you do and I bet you bait. Form your post in the past. Now go back to your click forum, why you left here in the first place. Right?

It is,, illegal to feed/bait deer in Illinois, but not squirrels, chipmunks or raccoons. So it is 700# of squirrels, chipmunks and raccoon feed. BTW they love corn as much as the Blue Jays. If something else comes along, what am I to do. It is better than blowing their heads off just to feel like a man. If I liked deer meat maybe I would hunt, but I doubt the wife would like it.

So call the IDNR on me if you want.

Dirt bags in hiding??? And people are stupid about Covid, ask the doctors and people who know something more than those that are into conspiracy theories.

Flint is right keep it down, stay civil or stay home. I would hope for better but I have been around here long enough to know better. A click is always a click, like high school. Like Rich said,,,Judge not less ye be judged. How dumb we can be.

The first part's a legitimate question, the second's a bit uncalled for.  I'm not the "Courtesy Cop" here, no-one's paying me to be, but let's try and be civil, OK?

"Baiting and feeding" legality depends on where you are.  Some states won't let you bait, but feeding is permitted, some states (Like New Jersey, where I'm from) won't let you do either.

Fife - Bo'D?  Nice!!!

Prayers for Roy

Full day of work today ---- I'll be back later on.

Getting ready for winter here on The North Bluff.

Got 700# of squirrels, chipmunks and raccoon feed and found a great deal on some snow tries for the Gator.   Smile, Wink & Grin   A guy had them on Marketplace only 6 miles away. Brand new never on the ground with the rims. Only $200.00 he started out at $300.00 but I told him they would tear up the grass so he said how about $200.00 and that gives you $100.00 for grass seed.  Laugh They would be more than $800.00 if you were to buy them from Deere. Maybe they fell out the back door or something, I don’t know but the guy looked honest? If they are hot then they will melt the snow as I drive along.  Laugh

We are going to do a Thanksgiving brunch with the daughter and hers. That way they can go to all of the other germ events after they leave here.  Wink SIL’s mom just don’t get it even now with her daughter and her guy both down with the Covid issues she has to have big shindigs. Huh?

I think I will be able to climb out of anything.  Smile, Wink & Grin  I will put the turf tires back on in the spring. Yes

Low was 33 here in yard. No frost in yard probably due to pecan trees still having lots of leaves. Wifey said frost in field behind the house. Had early Human Services Board meeting. Now a Regional Networks meeting in a few. All on computer. County recommending no or small immediate family gatherings. My Dr's I visited this week say need to back down and more restrictions.

Fred at farms.  Seeing nothing yesterday.  Some does today but no shooters.  Heard no shots in area.  Big tracks in fields.  Bucks staying to the night time.

Stay well.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 32 along the Allegany front range.  Need to get my stockyard "project" off of the Bear Den bar today, so there will be slight progress made in the train room.

At the NRHS chapter meeting, I got elected to the BoD.  Nice to be wanted.  A lot of discussion about what/what isn't going on across the river in Ridgeley.  Hopefully '21 will be better.

My niece's wedding has been cancelled until 11 Dec 2021, as the dictator in the state of Virginia declared 25 people max.  Wedding will go on, the reception will be next year.

I heard this evening that my brother, and 2 carloads of his in-laws went to a wedding in Iowa recently.  They all came back with Covid. While I share your opinion about the "Commonwealth"s governor, we do have to be careful.

Woof...

Ok, I too have opinions about COVID 19, the US political scene, World events, the Great RESET, etc...  And there have to be tens of thousands of forums that I can go to, that will allow for free thinking vents and rants on what troubles me.

This forum's trend is to keep things as light-hearted as possible.  We kid.  We share.  We support each other.  When possible, we actually mention trains.  It's an easy trend to follow, right?

Just think, before you click the Submit Your Reply tab. Cool

Since Chief already stole second, I'll take third. Kind of why I've slowed my posting here and FB.

The builder had a new drywall company come and fix the first company's mistakes. They were here 5 days (supposed to be 2.5) and the painters did their thing yesterday and today. Man these guys were a blast to talk to!!! I learned A LOT talking to them, now I know the best caulk, best paint brushes, best paint, best spackle (and how to mix the perfect consistency for the perfect spread). The drywall company owner let me run a bead and he was impressed how even and smooth mine was... "This isn't my first rodeo." Laugh He told me I would make a great drywall installer, I asked if he was hiring... no reply. LOL

@DJSpanky,

I'm guessing the price of plywood went down because there aren't any zhe-icanes (gender neutral term) aiming for the continental U.S. at the moment.
