I USE A HEAVY DUTY PAPER CLIP AND PUT A SMALL HOOK ON ONE END TO FISH THE TIRE AROUND AND SEAT IT, ONE THING DOING IT THIS WAY YOU CAN MAKE SURE THAT IT IS PROPERLY SEATED WITH NO TWISTS OR HIGH SPOTS.

BRASSEURS IS A GOOD SOURCE FOR SOME OLDER T/T'S.

A question,,,,On the tire thing.

I was swaping out motive power last night on the layout and found I need traction tires for my MPC B&M 8654 GP9 from 1976 or 77. Any of you know a part number for these or what else fits???

Kev,

I beleive the p/n you are looking is 222-208, there are a number of sources on the bay.  You can search using "Lionel 6-8654 tires".  One method I use is place a small piece of fishing line through the new tire, position the tire generally on the wheel.  Then while holding the tire partially in place on the wheel, pull the fishing line (both ends) to expand the tire to position it completely.

Also check this out... http://thetraindoctor.com/traction.shtml

There may be other people on the bus with experience. Cool

Part number I do not know , but it's the smaller one they have, and it is a real pain to do as you have to squeeze it between the side of the truck and the actual wheel

Sent you a E-Mail

Thanks RT, I put a used one on it from an old truck that will work for now. What a PITA to change!

Morning,

Condolences for your Ex Bil's family SJ!

Not sure what day it was this morning, so I confirmed with Kay it was Friday, she of course said NO! Its Thursday, and anyway the days have NEW names so you can choose one of these..... "Thisday, Thatday, Otherday, Someday, Yesterday, Today and Nextday", so know I'm totally confused.

Then with the Texas scenerio, found this in the paper this morning, regarding the economy.

Government Notice !   To help save the economy, Government will announce next month that the immigration Department will start deporting senior's (instead of illegals) in order to lower Social Security and Medicare costs.

Older people are easier to catch and will not remember how to get back home.  Be sure to send this notice to your relatives and friends, so they'll know what happened to you.  I was really concerned when I thought of you all,  then it dawned on me: I'll see you on the bus. Indifferent

Been cool and rainy all week!  We've gotton 2" of rain, that's a lot for us!  Fortunately, I have the train room, I've been working with tires, trying to come up with some "commonality" for the MTH vs Lionel sizes.  Would be easier if the same criteria was provided by both, (one provides ID and Thickness, the other provides OD and width, of course MTH is mm, Lionel is inches).  So I guess I will just measure each tire size and come up with my own.

Then as a Nascar nut, yesterday there were reruns all day long.  You could see the same guys racing on as many as 3 different tracks at the same time!

Well hopefully this pandemic will end soon!  God Bless and Stay Safe!

Kevin I remember that, but that makes as much sense as, wiping your tail then going to the bathroom, if all eldery died you still would have the corona virus.

Sun and 40 this morning. 72 yesterday was warm so we took a walk. Our son the car painter stopped by with two of the so called "better" mask for us to wear when shopping or doctor. That's the only reason for us to leave home at this time. Kev my fear of the virus is the doctors choosing who lives or dies. You know the odds for us old folk.

Mornin' boys.  Two nights in a row, FifeMax has woke us up for thunderstorms.  It's safe to say that he's the least popular inhabitant of Fifedom right now...

Did finish my tree project, as well as a canal hedgerow.

Been watching "layout tours" on youtube.  As soon as I hear someone continually yapping in the background, I stop the video.  I prefer when folks dub in some music.  TSG Media does a pretty good job.

Sorry about your X BIL SJ. Angel

Hate to say it but most if not all of us will end up knowing someone that has to face this COVID-19 thing first hand before it ends. Tongue Tied

Best get.

Good evening all,

Did mow last night.   Used the 21 inch Toro and then the neighbor brought back the old John Deere.  Used it to finish up the yard.  Had not used it for a few years.  Forgotten how good it was.   Kevin, you are correct about their high prices, but "Nothing runs like a Deere".  Bought this mower in 1991 and with the new blade (surprised they still carry it), it did just as good as the Toro.  Wish they still made that model.  Sir James, sorry to hear of your loss.

Can get fast food in town again.  Good thing as I was considering options for the weekend.  With the yard mowed and the book on Chanute finally finished, some serious on the portable layout may get done.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

A bit of excitement last night here at the "Fortress Flintlock" that led to some repair work today.

Started the oven to make dinner last night and was treated to a "sound and light" show coming through the door's window.  The heating element died in a blaze of arc lighting and hideous squeaks!  Off to the appliance parts shop this morning for a replacement.  Hey, I don't mind.  After fixing copiers fixing the stove was easy!

And to be serious, my condolances on your loss Sir James.  Hopefully this pestilence won't last too much longer.

Sun and 67 today, cooler weather is a comin though.

The wife of our ex BIL passed last night from the virus. BIL is still considered family, we knew her too but not a close relationship. No news here as our governor has passed so many new don'ts we are only allowed to breath every 30 seconds. Well not yet but she might try to do it.

Good morning all,

Spent more time on the portable layout.  Kind of 1 step forward, two steps back.  Got the second uncoupler track set up, then realized I have to move it to serve both the siding and the mainline.  Also had to adjust wiring so I could run the Dc engines with the AC uncoupler.  Not going very fast, and this is a "simple" layout.  Lord help me if I ever tried anything complicated.  Wife and I did get out for a short stroll around the block.  Quiet day at work.  Debating whether or not to mow tonight when it is warm or hope for a warm(er) day during the cold weekend.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening all!

Yes it was a good day on TCM! Big G original Japanese version is the best!!!

Now working on the one AF piece I have. A 1949 322 AC Hudson. It has a bent pilot and I was able to straighten it with a couple of small cracks. Looking to see if I can order a replacement. They are available, but the early version uses a rivet to secure the front truck and the replacement parts use a screw. Some info I found online says the 322 AC was not available until later but there is a stamp inside the boiler shell that says Feb 1949?

Unit runs good and smokes like the devil!

Put the track gang accessory rebuild with gear motor aside while I clean up the 322.

Well thanks for the heads-up Doug, "Godzilla" just came on, 4:45 EST, and Lady Firestorm's squealing with delight!  It's the original Japanese release, not the American one with the Raymond Burr inserts!

"It's SO much better in the original Japanese!" says she.

Good grief, not a whole lot of anything going on so I turned on the boob tube. Feels like a time warp, TCM is showing a bunch of early 60's sci-fi. Attack of the 50 ft Woman, Them now the Forbidden Planet is on. Next up is Godzilla followed by Creature From the Black Lagoon.

Howdy,

Roy that was an absolutely fantastic video!  BTW, Ray Sugg was a friend of Ward Kimball.  When I visited Ray's layout he had a number of momentos from Ward's layout (Grizzly Flats).  Ward had visited Ray's layout a number of times.

I spent the day yesterday running trains, it was fun.  Will probably get back out there today.  Want to finalize the taxes first.

Watched episode 1 of Tiger King, dont see the big deal.  Lots of NASCAR races on TV, all old classic races, interesting.

Take care all and have a great day.
