Yeah, I can dig it, but it depends on just where in the south you live.  Most of the older houses here in Central VA have 'em, but the ones built in the last 30-odd years, forget it!  Mine's in the latter category.  Just a crawl space.

Sun and 40

Our first time out since this mess started. Went to a Super Kroger. Not so super right now. Meat prices were jacked up, Cube steak was $8.99#. We passed on meat. Did get bread, eggs and milk. No TP to be found anywhere. We left with just a $50 tab.

SJ, I just got back from Krogers, I told the wife to stay home.

Wow that trip to Krogers was a real trip.
“Nothing” in the paper aisle at all.
 No butter.
No can goods but a very few.
I took the last of the OJ.

Morning team!

Cloudy. Looks like we got an inch or more of rain last night. More on the way. Rain, clouds, ugh, until Wed of next week.

We are doing ok on vittles so far. Have been able to pick up a thing or two every 3 days or so. Luckily we already had a good stock of canned veggies, as our Kroger was devoid of fresh vegetables and fresh fruit (except apples).

You can blame our governments at all levels. All the government lessons learned and afterreports of supply management during Rita, Ike, Harvey, Sandy, etc., were completely ignored/forgotten when no one in government thought to meet with critical suppliers (such as grocery, medical, etc.) PRIOR to making self-quarantine announcements to give them a chance to prepare. Then they compounded it by not prefacing the announcements with 'don't run on the grocery stores', supplies are fine, and letting folks know 'you can go to the grocery store' normally while sitting this out.

No basements here and a lot of the south as water tables are too high, a lot of the soils are unstable, and it was easy to build a 'ranch' style home due to cheap cost of land down here.

Regards, Roy

Good Morning -

Brent nice pics - kiddos are looking great!

Fife - I haven't responded for a couple of weeks cuz of Mom, but I thank God that I'm off EMS duty......and we've been told that all drills/meetings/social gatherings at the FD are cancelled until further notice, except for emergencies (naturally).

50s today and sunny - very quiet and that's fine.  The news is off and work is light, but that's a normal Wednesday, as far as work is concerned.

The sad thing is I can't get to my trains and there is much to do....but Mom is more important right now.

Well, let's see what else I can get into, work is still calling me so back when I can.

Good Evening,

Had a pretty good day, finished my populating passenger car project.  Did 7 cars with 13 persons each.  (Had to maintain "Social Distancing").  They look great!  Chris has been working in Ventura/Oxnard on a massive drilling project.  After working all weekend is back in the office this week.  But, they sent him home to work from there.  So he came over to visit and was concerned about our safety.  So I'm in the train room and there this banging on the door, check it out and here he is......

Chris' visit

(Notice the gloves)

Been listening to a lot of news and such.  I don't mind saying there seems to be a silver linning in all the current issues, a lot of people AND politicians seems to be getting along, and actually working together.  It really makes me feel proud to be an American and see all that is being down to minimize the impacts of this virus.  I can't think of ANYWHERE in the world I would rather be than right here!

Prayers for all of us!

Mornin' boys.  Damp and 48 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Trying not to discuss the obvious.  I try to watch as much trains (model and real) on youtube tv as possible.  I prefer the videos where folks use tripods and music on the models, and drones with music, for the prototypes.  I've met the young man who does Delay In Block, and he does a good job.  And he travels all over.

Worked on flour sacks for the freight station, and wood piles for my fleet of 4-4-0's yesterday.

KRM - Those gentlemen don't live up the road.  They actually live across the street from fifedom.  "Shady", as we call him, turned out to be pretty nice once we got to know him.

Hello there,

wiped the keyboard with chlorox wipes and wearing gloves to keep you safe.

Got rid of the PITA. Added a Pop Up blocker to Firefox.

Don.....them gloves look a bit clumsy.

Fife......do they give you a discount?

Found daily mass on YouTube.

No bathroom work yesterday, got a ton of coal for the farm house. Hopefuly get us through.

Church is selling Fish Fry supplies at cost to try and recoup costs. Bought a case each of haddock, pollock, clams and shrimp.  Shared some with daughter, we'll have plenty of fish for a while.

Best get on with the day.

Prayers for those in need.

Morning folks!

Coudy and raining. Hit 80 yesterday, 77 predicted today. Cold front tomorrow - 60's/50's and yep - more rain, possible storms.

Scored some fresh veggies at the grocery store yesterday. Stopped in on a whim just to see what they had and viola! Also got a couple packages of meat and some eggs (first time for eggs in over a week). No bread but making what we have last using the toaster. They even had some TP, limit one package.

Taking care of daughters pup. UTI. Administering antibiotics smothered in peanut butter. SIL is able to work since he is in IT support and business is steady. Daughter's work will try a 2 week hiatus starting close of business Sat. Son's university has them off and trying to get going with on-line stuff.

Dallas County announced - among new restrictions - 10 folks max, inc home parties - that a couple of breweries will make alcohol for hand sanitizer for medical facilities - 55 gal drums! Hope the medical workers don't drink it instead?

Regards, Roy

Beautiful day.  76 and sunny.

They did away with popup.  Thanks Thumbs Up

Latest rumor here is Trump is shutting down country for two weeks.  Using NG and military.  Go stock up.  Told folks may have been started by grocery chain.  Local Food Lion manager says sales up 62% over last year.

Enjoy the day.

Good day from the Valley,

fife... Yes, there are some good railroad videos on YouTube. I caught one the other day where they explained the steam pistons on the Big Boy and other articulateds. I also learned about the experimental third piston between the driving wheels. Did not work too well. Very hard to maintain a valve/piston system underneath a boiler.

There are a few videos of how to run a steam locomotive, but they are very unprofessional. If you get a chance watch the WABASH on Train Unlimited. They do a good job.

We are at the house 24/7. Everything closed. Those that work are trying to work from home. Walmart is to have a senior citizens shopping hour.

Buckeye, Did you see that it is at 6:00AM and only one day a week? I understand why an houre before they open because they want the store clean, but only one day a week? That is nuts, it will be a mad house of old people. I would think they would do it every day to spread it out? But then again,,,it is Walmart. Well the wife and I have NO intention of doing any 6:00 AM senior citizen shopping.  First off, neither one of us are getting up that early since we've retired!  That stuff is past!  Second, neither one of us are going to admit being OLD!  We're not old, we're "well-seasoned!"

At least the gray hair keeps me from getting proofed at the liquor store.

Doing well here. Daughters pup has bounced back - literally!

Raining here - so strange (really?) - 56 and think it will stay that way for the next couple of days. 80's next week! Lawn/weeds growing like crazy and trees almost leafed out (in a week - always impresses me).

Fife - AGREED!!!!!

Stopped raining - supposed to get to 70F today but rain and wind later.

Did venture to shop last night, There was 1 roll of paper towels left and I posed with it - I don't need it so I put it back -

NO Beef or Chicken found at the ShopRite we use, and I did check out in the +60 line since there was NO ONE there.  We ran over to a smaller grocer and found the 2 - 1LB packages of ground beef and a package of chicken breasts.

People are crazy, I don't understand this at all.

Hope to get to the Train Attic tomorrow, my sister is going to give us a break and sit with Mom for a while.  Mom is not sleeping well, she is much better otherwise.

Jenni has gotten the green light for closing on the 31st so there was much joy and celebrating yesterday.

Back to work

A question, it looks like you need special paper to print this eBay shipping label?

Dennis, E-bay shipping labels are just fine on regular paper. Just use clear shipping tape to put it on your box. Wink

My favorite make me feel good emails are from the companies or organizations that I did business with 5-10 years ago.

For those millennials having fun in Florida and not giving a care, companies where you will want to work after graduation will be reviewing your Facebook, WhatsApp, WeChat, QZone, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter, etc.  postings. This information was relayed to me by a partner in one of our county's largest accounting firms. Companies are doing in-depth reviews of potential new employees.

Flooded roads are all around us this morning. A ten-foot culvert washed out on a state road.

Today this software is acting up again. Would not let me correct my verbage or spelling manually. I actually did a test on three other train type forums and all of them can handle spell check. Kalmbach should be ashamed.

Good afternoon all,

Strange times indeed.  Not too sure what to make of all that is going on (or not going on).  Someone commented as to what life will be like if and when we get back to "normal".   Work is going well.  Got an update done with the application.  Going to be cold this weekend.  New sump pump connection works really well.  Much easier to use.  I hoppe everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,
