Happy belated birthday Tyler!

Spanky, that 1911 film of New York is stunning, the restoration and half-tone colorization is downright miraculous!

I'm going to try and post it on the "Classic Trains" Forum, we love that stuff!

Just think, there's some old-timers walking the streets in that film who remember the Civil War, especially the gent with the white beard walking toward the camera on one segment.  Remember it?  It wouldn't surprise me if he fought in it!

These old films do make me just a little sad,  it's like watching ghosts, since there's no one in that film who's still living.

Evening folks!

Rain started last night, rained all day, and still raining until late tonight/early tomorrow. 50's right now but weekend will be nice! 70?

I will not make York. Thought about it but it is too much money to commit to have Eastern Div get scared and cancel and/or vendors/member sellers get scared and not show up. Too bad as Southwest really dropped the ticket prices, obviously due to folks cancelling plans. Tics a couple weeks ago were high.

Kev - DonB doing fine. Spoke to him last week. There is a lot going on in his life right now, but they are fine otherwise.

"Eastern Division get scared and cancel?"  Corona virus panic?

Hoo boy.  I looked up some figures out of curiosity.  In 2019 there were 34,000 reported deaths from plain ol' flu here in the US.  In 2018 there were 61,000.  Corona virus hasn't even come close.  I'm not saying there's no cause for concern, but there's no cause for hysteria.

But, never underestimate the power of hysteria.  And it seems 30% of the people in this country aren't happy unless they're terrified of something.  Go figure.

I'm not planning on any lifestyle changes, and I'm not locking myself away from the world either.

Good morning all,

Watched the LEGO show again thinking it might be good.  First half was good with a city theme to it, but then they added a twist with monsters and kind of ruined the whole event.   Real shame was that people who had a really good build with the city got sent home for the last part, which really did not seem right.  Sometimes I kind of wonder about those shows......  Weather is windy.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Morning.  Cloudy and breezy.  Rain on the way.

Will not do York.  Probably never will again.  Will renew TCA due to buddy, Will Allen, is SE president.

Maybe try and have a get together with some of the guys in the area in states close by.

May get to do more work in Train box today.

Got an open house at airport just north of me.  Lady development friend and I are trying to make it into a jet port.

Have a good one.

Another nice one today, mid 50s and sun. A good wind is drying things out. Off to Krogers.

Thanks Roy for the S&B update!

Evenin' boys.  I made out just fine at the doctor's office today.  New BP meds, some blood work, and some kinda scopey-thingy in the not-so-distant future. Surprise  Wifey and I rewarded ourselves with a "cheat" day at the restaurant.

Chief - If Fifepup gets his new job in SC, the prospects of me checking out the famous train box are good.  I'll keep you posted.

As for YORK, I don't think they'll cancel.

Tyler has his Junior Formal tonight. Apparently his date's parents are making a big thing of it, so he has to go over to her place early to take pictures. Ummmmm.........okay. Sheeze, it's a friggin' dance.

DJ, Our son will be 41 and our daughter will be 32 this year. And EVERYTHING for their kids is way overblown. I don't get it either?

Very windy but sunny and mid 40s so not too bad.

Evening folks!

Another beautiful day! Sunny, 64. More on tap for tomorrow.

Dennis - I think I read JBW has metal powder in it? I have had friends repair crankcase leaks, low power engine block water jacket cracks, etc. with JBW.

Mornin' boys.  Cloudy and 34 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Coach train today.  Murder Mystery train tonight.  Train show in Altoona tomorrow.  My buddy Tom is visiting as well, so I spent some time in the train room sprucing things up.  Finally got around to "planting" the excellent telegraph poles by DM&M RR Co, that I puchased at YORK a decade ago.  They look sharp.

Morning.  Was cold and windy.  50 and windy later.  70's next week.  NO rain.

Of to FIL's to go through more stuff.

Was real busy yesterday [wasn't suppose to be. unplanned].

York, will not spend the $$$.  Not worth it for me.

If Fifey comes, great.  Will not have to load my weapons like I have to do when Buckeye comes.

Have a good one.

Good evening all,

Wife's eye laser work went well according to doc (he said that the last 2 times as well...)   Went to train show today.  Lots of stuff, lots of people, nothing for me.  Did 10 miles Friday night.  First 8 miles were flying, slowed down 9th mile and hit a wall during the 10th.  Still better by almost 20 minutes than last week.  Did some miles in under 15:30....walking.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening folks!

Been pretty busy the last few days. Not much to report here. Son and I went to a local brew pub yesterday, sat outside - a bit cool/breezy - we had some nice brews and a good chat.

Today was PC maintenance day. Ugh. Been monitoring a particular Win10 update that is a real disaster. Set our PCs (we have seven) for manual updating and continue to use the delay updating feature to allow me to review possible updates so we can avoid the Windows 10 Version 1909. 1903 updates are ok.

Google 'Windows 10 update 1909' and one can see all the issues, which can be catastrophic.

While this issue has been going on for a while, my IT SIL says to wait as MS usually/eventually resolve bad releases. Several months on 1909 and no resolution yet.

MikeC - hope the latest eye surgery on Ms MikeC continues to go well.

Mornin' boys.  Splended weather along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Not sure what we're doing today, but we'll be doing it outside.  Probably go trackside with Tom.

Had a good time with the crew at the Altoona show yesterday.  Didn't score any big puchases myseld, just a couple packs of plaster wrap, and some AF couplers to repair a couple S gauge cars.  The guys wanted to stop at this indoor flea market nearby, and I really didn't want to go in.  I was there 30 seconds, and found some Dept 56 items: an old boat dock, and a stevedore with crane.  Both pieces are highly detailed, and wound up fitting beautifully in my canal wharf area.  Who knew?  Wifey made us a nice steak dinner on the grill, and we watched a DVD on Sand Patch grade, and ran some trains.  All-in-all, a good day.

cheapclassics - While reading your post, MY left calf started to tighten up, and my knees started aching.  Please, no more pushing it beyond the 8 mile mark.  If not for yourself, think of me...

Good morning all,

Had a nice visit with Lucas as he was coming home from visiting his daughter.  Watched Man U defeat Man City 2-0 as well.  Nice weather for once.   As far as wife's eye, it is one day at a time.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Hello there,

had a great weekend. Worked the fish fry till 6pm. It was busy, ended up an 800+ night, but replacement had it well in hand.

Saturday AM headed to Lancaster. Did a couple of outlets before a nap at the motel and headed to Mass. After Mass straight to the American Music Theatre. The Oak Ridge Boys were short William Lee Golden who's down with the flu but still did a great show.

Slept late yesterday and had brunch at Cracker Barrel. More shopping included a stop at the Strasburg Train Store. Picked up an early 60s E J & E boxcar by Mantua and a couple magazines from the same era.

Got home about 8PM. We're both wupped. Mrs mostly sat on benches at the oulets, still weak and coughing but pneumonia seems much better. An xray later today to confirm.

Buckeye and RT.....lookn GOOD!!!

Roy.....thanks for the heads up on Win 10 I'm going to try to change the update setting. So far I haven't been able to delay them.

Fife......glad you enjoyed the show. Where was the flea market you were at.

Time to go.

Prayers for those in need

Morning everyone

Yea I'm still around.  I finished the supervisor qualification at work about 10 days ago.  It took 3 months but usually takes 9.  It helps that I worked with the equipment about 10 years ago.  Last week I had to work 88 hours.  Not much time left for anything else.  I'm off til thursday evening when I start nightshift.

I have had a little time to work on the layout, making progress.  I keep saying it is the journey, not the destination.

Got to go, I've got a little electrical job for a friend.

May God bless you and your families

Mornin' Fellas

Been mega crazy around here as of late. Sleep

Lots of projects going coming up to spruce up the new joint and make it more 'livable'. We chose to concentrate the construction on areas we knew we wanted and it made sense to finance into the mortgage. Other areas we figured we could get those done over time. WOW did we under estimate costs. LOL

We are have a paver patio installed and having our Master closet, Christina's closest, and the pantry redone with built-ins. The closet-maid, or whatever it is, wire shelves aren't cutting it and we need more storage.

Appears this new virus is impacting furniture manufacturing... have to wait on our new bed and night stands... oh well.

Kids are doing great... they love having kids next door to play with after school. Their social interaction is improving.

TheQ is busier than ever... with her position, where she works, who she supports, etc it it understandable... can't say more at this time... other than... there is more wrong information out there than there is accurate (and this is leading to market fluctuations and people acting like morons).

Fife - I've been contemplating a trip out west... not sure when. TheQ will be gone most of April which sucks. I 'monitor' WMSRR's FB site and provide feedback when I can. I'm kind of a unoffical sponsor. Smile

Have to renew my TCA membership. Hoping to make it to York in April... we'll see.

Buckeye - what are you using to build your framework? Is that 1x1 legs with leveling feet and 1x4 stringers? How are you keeping it all braced?

V8Vega

I've had the flu since Sat. night, With all the talk of Corona I wonder if I have that.

Suppose to rain a lot starting tonight, A long time no rain.

Probably not, there's plenty of plain ol' flu going around.  Lady Firestorm picked up a bug last week and generous soul that she is gave it to me!  She didn't want it back either!

As is typical in my case it was just enough to make me miserable, not knock me on my ass!  Pays to come from good, hearty peasant stock I suppose.

Anyway, good day yesterday!  Got the taxes done with refunds coming!  Wow! That hasn't happened in 30 years!  Built a test track for the clubs up-coming train show, they lost the other one, it never worked right anyway.  THIS one does!  Wink

Our local ice cream place opened for the season so we had a chocolate cone overdose.  The bunny rabbits are back in the yard and we saw our neighborhood red-tail hawk, "Mr. Hawkie," flying his Combat Action Patrol.  Finished the day with a pizza.  Good day all around!

Hope everyone elses Sunday went just as well!

88....  The legs are 2x2, except the middle legs on he long table are 2x4. For bracing I used 1x2 with a gusset made from Masonite.  The 1x2 in the photo below was a temporay brace and was replaced with a 1x3 joist.

The main L girders are 1x4 with a 1x2.  The joists are 1x3. Use this to see all the photos including details of the bracing: https://link.shutterfly.com/feLppGFBM1

Hello there,

Mrs better but still not good.

88.....good to hear from you. Hope to see you at York

Fife...just curious there's 2 in the area. Duncanville has the Antique Depot with both indoor and outdoor fleas, a surplus section and an Antique mall area.

Lieghty's is near Newry but has a Duncanville address. It is a Farm Market with an indoor flea area. They have a large outdoor flea market 3 seasons.

Best move on.

Mornin' Fellas

TCA membership - Check
York - Forgot to talk to TheQ last night about our plans for April. Hoping she will be in town Friday as she is travelling for work most of the month.

Fife - That may be possible. Smile

Buckeye - Thanks for the link! I've got 3 walls and 3 soffits to frame, run electric, drywall, and hang the ceiling, mud and tape, paint, and install flooring before I can start planning the new garden. At least a year before I can start construction. Sad

Chief - I can't figure out how to post pics now. I have tried Shutterfly, and a few other hosting sites... can't get it to work.

Wet and 50 degrees. We did have two days in the 60s but it's too early for that to stay. We saw or first robin on sunday, wearing a winter coat and gloves. Voted this morning, all the DC clowns are here telling lies  for votes. I still cough but for the most part the Strep Throat is going away.

The weather tease has left us as well SJ. Robbins have been here since the 1st.

Wife's 59th birthday yesterday. We did lunch at Sandi's bar and grill in Dayton and just chilled out. Lonnie and Brian our neighbors came by with some gifts and all the kids checked in by phone.

Dennis,

You may want to ask your Doctor, advice is cheap and those big churchs you go to can be germ pits. You don't know where or who those people have been around or where. Anyone else in the chruch have it yet? That would be a sign of which way to go. Best to err on the side of caution at your age. If you can even get a test out there yet.

JMHO.

Lets hope these people from Medicare and the CDC KNOW what they are talking about .

I got this e-mail from "Medicare" this afternoon.

According to the CDC, older adults and people who have severe chronic medical conditions like heart, lung or kidney disease are at a higher risk of serious illness if they contract the COVID-19 virus. This means that most people with Medicare are at a higher risk.

Your health, safety, and welfare is our highest priority. In addition to practicing good everyday prevention through things such as hand washing and avoiding touching your face, the CDC says there is more you can do to take precautions against COVID-19 and reduce your risk of exposure:

  • Avoid crowds, especially in poorly ventilated spaces with limited air circulation.
  • Defer all cruise ship travel worldwide, particularly if you also have underlying health issues.
  • Avoid situations that put you at increased risk, including non-essential travel such as long plane trips.

Get More Info

Remember: Medicare covers the lab tests for COVID-19 — you pay no out-of-pocket costs. And Medicare also covers all medically necessary hospitalizations.

For more information about Medicare and COVID-19, visit Medicare.gov.

I see nothing funny about this.

We both Sandra and I just went through the flu here last month and still not clear after 3 weeks but way better.
