Nice shelves RT. Maybe I should do something like that to? It seems a shame to have so many nice trains just hiding in boxes.

Cold today with snow on the way tonight. Looks like DougM will get lucky and missed by it. For us one place said 4"to 9" and others say 1" to 4" just depends. We are on the line.

Hello there,

got a temporary filling in my broken tooth today. Getting the permanent repair on Valentines day. .Doc said maybe a crown. I'm thinkn maybe pull it.

Just ain't up to snuff yet. Spent the last couple o days keeping  warm and watching Farm Show. Missed my favorite the Tractor Square Dance. Hope to catch it in reruns.

Weather guessers are saying long enough cold snap for the ground to freeze. Gonna call tomorrow and try to schedule a coal delivery for the farm house.

My printer decided not to print black ink yesterday. A quick look at YouTube showed a a couple of do it yourself fixes along the same lines. Soaking in rubbing alcohol now. Found a similar new one for  $60 at Staples. That's the next step if no go tomorrow.

Phish....sounds like you got the best  of both worlds. There was a show a couple o years ago with a bunch of guys hunting suburbs somewhere in New England.

Good evening all,

Work was quiet.  Solved one problem from yesterday.  Had some meetings.  Starting de-decorating at home.  Adequate weather at work.  I understand the hassles of home construction.  Been there, done that, do not want to do it again. Sorry to hear about the police officer, Chief.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening all.

Kevin I remeber someone telling others of that correction over on the other mag. forum. But forgot about that until you mentioned it.

Been busy here trying to unpack from the move. How do you move into a larger house but can't fit what was in the smaller house, beats me lol. So it's going to be one large yard sale come spring. I have 5 shelved metal racks 4' x 18" x 6' and I have 3 boxes per shelf and I have 1 1/2 of them filled with yard sale items, I have another 1 1/2 of them also on other side of garage that we haven't gone through yet. Plus I have about 12 boxes 2' x 2' x 2' in the two different rooms, one has 8 and this one has 4. I keep asking the wife can you spell Y A R D S A L E and she says yes I agree.

Plus side of this move I have 8 shelves 9' long to put trains and things onto. :)

This will kinda give you an idea of whats going on, the shelf with the PRR passenger cars on it will become part of a layout that will be 4' 9" x 9'.

The empty shelf above the trains is where the PRR trains will go. I have more southern and NYC passenger cars just can't get to them yet to add.

Buenos nochas amigos!

40's today and gray all day. Rain tomorrow. 50's for weekend.

Son and I worked on layout wiring today. Paint shop got the control cart painted, but it really needs 3 days to fully dry. The tear down of the Dallas/Northpark Mall Ronald McDonald House holiday layout starts at 7 tomorrow morning. Son and I will be there.

Phish - I will try. I moved to Shutterfly. Was able to post a couple times and then nothing. So I gave up trying. Two many operating systems, internet issues, and web site issues that conflict in today's 'connected' world. Get a bunch of internet geeks in one room and they will agree on one thing - at the end of the day none of their stuff works together....Smile, Wink & Grin

Chief - that's terrible. glad they caught the bad guy.

Brent - know what ya mean - hope it all calms down soon!

Kev - Dremmel tools are the duct tape of toy train maintenance!

Cold is still the word on The North Bluff, Sooooooo,

Today I went after this issue

"On the dark side I put the new BNSF Menards Hopper car on with one of my sets and it has issues with the trucks hitting the side ladders and derailing, also the auto coupler part that would be pulled down by an activation track section drags on the switches but just sparks and does not cause any derailing??? Not sure what to do about that. Everything is mounted to plastic?"

Took my Dremmel tool and ground just enough clearance off the back sides of the ladder so that the truck wheel supports would clear. Also smoothed off the auto coupler part.  Working good now!! Yes

Mornin' Fellas

I feel like a birdie in an badminton match! Bouncing between houses, projects, work, kids' events, etc. Hard to keep my head straight.

Got everything updated on the Pittsburgh property listing. Got the seller disclosure updated to include work done to address water in basement, added home warranty, and dropped asking price. Need to get that place sold. Sad

We got a call from the builder that our property will be too level for proper septic flow from house to septic field... they were going to install a septic pump - but that would mean we would not be able to flush toilets during a power outage, which would mean we would need to have a generator hook up installed... we want to have a generator at some point, but weren't expecting that expense off the bat... then got a call yesterday from builder that they will simply raise the house 3 feet and grade the property to get the proper flow rate. No additional cost. Solved! 10 - 14 days from having all permits executed and then they will schedule the pre-build walk through, once that is done... the start digging a hole!

That means I have to get all the projects at our current home done within the next 4 weeks... yeah... gonna be busy! Good news is that most of them are either patching holes and painting, or just painting. Bad news is the biggest 'project' is the basement and once I get to that I'll need to rent a storage unit to get a bunch of stuff out of the basement so I can work... ugh.

Chief - sorry to hear about the officer. So sad when that stuff happens.

Lots to do... better run.

Prayers for those in need.

Cold 36 degrees and windy.  At least sun is out.  The snow forecast for late weekend is a no go now.  Is for others.  What a change.

Had Raleigh PD officer shot in face and neck last night.  Out of surgery and all being said.  Perp caught.

Hope all OK.

Good Morning from a clear 21°F Southern Ohio,

Drove home from work last night with flurries and more is predicted.  Nothing sticking at this point.  Started taking down the living room Christmas Tree and will work on it more over the days off this weekend.

Mike C - The day turning to hash, we had one of those too, not one but two single point failure point equipment issues had the operation on hold until repairs are made.

Roy - are you going to be able to post some pictures when you are done?

Rob - A downspout to drain pipe was the cause of a water problem in my basement as well.  The drain pipe was compromised by tree roots and I had to re-place the drain.  After the repair running the dehumidifier dried all up and all is well.

Spank - You are correct.

May God bless

Bonsoir mes amis! (Rob Thumbs Up)

56 right now and 40's tomorrow. Rain predicted all day Friday.

The control panel issue was resolved this morning. Son and I got the 3 shelves cut/glued/pin-nailed/cleated, casters mounted, all pin holes filled, unit sanded, and wheeled it over to the paint shop for the end of the day. After paint we will wire up the power supplies and controllers. Also coordinated the wiring/terminals requirement to attach it to the layout.

Regards, Roy

Today was play with trains day!!!

Well I pulled out all of those 9 RTR train sets today from my uncle and ran all of the engines. They all worked, some better than others. The Hogwarts engine kept derailing and I could not see why? The two rear wheels on the engine come off the tracks, maybe the pick up springs are to tight???  Most all are starter sets but some are nicer than others. The Santa Fe Flyer Freight Set is real nice and has a nice USRA 0-8-0.

The set I thought would be a POS was one of the nicest.  The QVC Lionel Mines Gold set from 1999 is a great set with special made gold bank car, a  gondola with the two guys running around chasing each other and a gold filled hopper car. Also a nice 2-6-4 engine with smoke and a very good whistle in the tender. I don't think he ever ran it. So I put that on the layout and boxed the Copper Range Mine Set back up.

On the dark side I put the new Menards Hopper car on with one of my sets and it has issues with the trucks hitting the side ladders and derailing, also the auto coupler part that would be pulled down by an activation track section drags on the switches but just sparks and does not cause any derailing??? Not sure what to do about that. Everything is mounted to plastic?

To cold to do much else.

Afternoon all! (Buenas Tardes Roy!)

Ugh... I guess it was my turn to be locked out for a few days. I know we've all grumbled about this at one time or another.

A few flurries today hovering around 28.

Nothing too exciting over the last 4-5 days. I watched some football and took down the Christmas decorations over the weekend. Went to my wife's neice's "Gender Reveal" party on Saturday. Sign of the times, I guess. Remember when the Dr. said "It's a boy or girl"?

I did find out when I was taking down the Christmas lights that my corrugated drain pipe had fallen off of the downspout at the side of the house. I'm hoping that was my damp basement problem. Brent, I'll still take your advice if I do have to go to Plan B.

DougM - Glad you're feeling better.

MikeC - It does suck for your son. Been there, done that. Like others have said, it will get better. Just be there for him. I'm forever indebted to my folks when it hit the fan for me.

Kev- Glad you're re-ordering the set. I think it's still a good value. I'll be looking forward to a "Kev's Train Box" review! Big Smile I might spring for one for my dad. He's been eyeing up a BNSF diesel for a while, but since he's conventional, he doesn't want to spend the $$$ on a command one. Nice bike too!

Spank - Yeah that seemed a little much from Corey's teacher. I know hearing the other side from my wife (a teacher) about the lack of respect, mouthing off/swearing and making threats, it's a tough gig. By the sounds of it, his teacher could have dealt with that a little better though.

Marty - I've been starting to inventory mine as well, especially when you almost buy the same thing twice! It's a little embarassing when you go through a box and say to yourself you forgot you owned that!! It is good to have though for insurance and for estate planning.

I think that's got me caught up. If I missed anything/anyone, than my thoughts and prayers to you, of course.

Have a good one,

Rob

Dennis,

Not sure because it is on it's second spedo. First one broke years ago.  This one shows 21K. There was about 13 years I did not ride because of two friends of mine that got killed on their bikes and I just did not have the taste for it. I just can't bring myself to sell her after all this time.

So, my best guess on mine is somewhere around 50k. I did blow it up in like 78 or 79. I put the first 867cc big bore kit in it in winter of 1976.

It was built to race and has never been an easy ride. The trip I took to Yellowstone on it in the early 80s my rearend was leather by the time I got home. Smile, Wink & Grin

Good Morning from windy 29°F Southern Ohio,

From 60° to snow in less than a week.  Crazy.

Banks - we have about 6.5 acres on one side of a 20 acre woodland in the middle of the city.  There is a lot of deer and the deer herd is in need of thinning out and bow and crossbow are the only legal methods of hunting because discharging a firearm is illegal in the city limits.  I had read about big city bucks and it is true.  One of the bucks we got green scored 128 pts.

Mornin' boys.  Temps dropping and flurries along the front range of the Alleghanies.  A stay inside kinda day.  Perhaps train room time.

Big Boss has tapped me to attend MD state house with him at the end of the month.  Attended my first Canal Place meeting yesterday, for upcoming "River & Rails" fest, scheduled for the end of August.  I'm pretty sure I came across like a bull in a china shop... We'll see....

Morning all...

Winter blew into Western PA last night.  Trying to take down flags last night in 50 MPH winds was fun.  Normally I'd let them ride it out but the pole was really flexing and bouncing.

Plan on starting to re-inventoring all my "stuff" this weekend.  It's been a while and I want to get an accurate list for both buying and just knowing what I have.  I guess the talk of all the stuff we gather was sort of a kick in the pants.  Like to get some nice photos for inventory as well.

Stay safe everyone.

Good evening all,

Busy day at work until around 2 then all quiet.  Wife and I looked at possible trips at TCA convention this summer.  We may do that.  Have friends there so do a double.  Weather turning colder.  Stur-fish, that is some shooting.   Got a quote on doing the garage doors.  Have to cogitate on that as well.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Hello there,

Christmas is winding down here. Yesterday I got most of the outside stuff down. Need help wth the ladder to get lights off the gutters. Putting everything away will wait till I can lift a little more. The tree and inside stuff will stay a few weeks or until it starts to drop too many needles.

Spent some time today dealing with some Mom issues.  Watching a lot of the PA Farm Show.

Managed to break a tooth last evening. Got an appointment to deal with it on Thursday, thankfully it's not painful.

Roy......downsizing is part of cleanout and renovate before we move to the townhouse.

Kev....still have my '70 ElCamino and a several dirt bikes I've had since the mid 70's. Plus a bunch of trains.........

Phish.........congas on the deer. How much ground do you have.

Fife.......spent 20 minutes online trying to find the date of the Show. I'll let you know when I find it. Usually the 1st Sunday in March  but the convention center website dosen't show it at all.

Best move on.

Prayers for those in need,

Buenos noches amigos!

60's and partly cloudy today. Front rolls through tonight and back to normal 50's tomorrow. Possible rain later this week.

Frustrating day today, almost completed the control panel/cart build but some indecision today re some of the parts to be mounted on it. Should be resolved tomorrow.

Phish - crossbow - impressive!

Kev - that bike looks nice!

I am trying hard to get rid of stuff. If something were to happen to me I do not want the family to have to deal with all my 'stuff'. I recently have sorted stuff such that everything in the 9x10 garden shed (save the lawnmower, weed eater) goes into the trash. The garden shed has all the accumulated home repair crap in boxes on shelves - electrical, plumbing, lawn sprinkler parts, painting, camping, wood (trim, etc.), home mechanical (hinges, latches, locks, window parts, cabinet h/w), drywall repair), pool parts, etc. No one here but me knows what this stuff goes to. I plan to get to the train stuff this year - sort the stuff I want and dispose of the rest.

Regards, Roy

WOW The temps have dropped 10 degrees in the last hour and will drop 20 more tonight. Wind is whipping and winter is taking hold. Was 47 now 37.

Christmas is officially over with us here today. Wife took down all of the tree decorations and I put it away till next year. No work in the shed today because of the Honey Dos.

Phish, I don't hunt but let the kids because we have to control the numbers. We have a very short number of days for shotgun and muzzleloader. So most of the hunt here is also Bow or crossbow.   I am not much of a fan of the meat but with the right mix it can be okay. Just my take as for I know many that love it.

DougM, Glad to know your doing better!! Yes

The bike is coming along nice on the clean up work. Just need the small buffing wheels to show up to finish.

You know with my work on my old Triumph Bike I got to wonder,,,,,,How many people in there late 60s still have something they bought in their early 20s???

Congratulations Phish! One less for me to hit with the car.
Phish and I live in the middle of big deer country. I believe muzzle season is still ongoing and our local restaurant & bar was full with hunters last Saturday. You see license plates from Vermont, California and several other states just about every year around Danville, OH. We have what the deer like; rivers, lakes, acres of woods and most importantly corn.

Ray - The crossbow I use is a Barnett Whitetail Pro.  It has a draw weight of 150 pounds and 103 pounds of kinetic energy, shooting a 375 grain broadhead and arrow (bolt) at 350 feet per second.  Distance out to 70 yards is not out of the question but accuracy is shooter dependent.  Drop is about 3 inches per 10 yards.

The shots I’ve taken were broadside at 20-25 yards, after impact each deer traveled less than 10 yards and dropped within 60 seconds.  All shots have taken out both lungs and heart.  Quick and humane kills.
