Just below freezing and cloudy today. Got out for breakfast and got some errends done. One of the errends was a visit to Menards. Of course I walked through the train asile on the way out of the store. Picked up a UP Grand Canyon route boxcar. Just enough room in the 20% off bag for it to fit
Took the dog on a walk down the KATY Trail. Most of the way, we were the first to walk it since the big snowfall last Saturday. Wore me out. I think that the dog thought it was great fun. The snow canceled the robot team's Saturday and Monday build time. Starting out the build season two days behind - going to be a challange to catch up.
The layout in the article on page 59 in the Feb. 2019 CTT issue looks interesting. I'm trying to work out how the curved track crosses the two straight tracks down the middle of the layout under the mountain - page 60, dotted lines between the oil derik and house on the hillside. Both of the crossings shown are not at the any of the standard cross over angles that are available. Can't be a over/under situation, as the picture on page 58 clearly shows all four tracks enter the tunnels at the same level.
About all for now.
Setting up new computer. Need Brent's help. Later

Good evening all,
Semi busy day at work. Weather was sunny for walk. Roads were dry for drive in and back home. Worked on puzzle tonight. Never doing anything over 300 pieces again. Too d--- frustrating. Just not fun. I know what you mean about cousins. After the grandparents were gone, hardly ever see any again. Two on my mom's side I see only because they are in town. Keep more in touch with wife's side than my own. Go figure. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Guten Abend! (Rob!)
Some sun finally. 50. 35 tonight. Warm up this week to almost 70 and back to 20's for next weekend. Why is it always the weekend? Argh!Busy day today on the Ronald McDonald Trains at Northpark Mall tear down. Less than 10 larger buildings to pack. The ticket office, the along the wall modular layouts in the front and side are completely disassembled along with all the slat walls (train shelves). The first semi/53 ft trailer shows up at 6 am tomorrow. We are ready to roll it out and load. The last modular along the walls is partially disassembled and once the trailer is loaded we will disassemble the free standing portion of the layout that is in the station (NYC area, New England area, Mt Rushmore area, and Wash DC area). Next truck shows up Wed dark thirty and the last truck Fri dark thirty.
Same as you guys re the cousins. We are all over the country so meetings are rare. But when we do get together is is old home week, like we last saw each other yesterday. And a lot of adult beverages are consummed.
Regards, Roy
Kev I know what you mean about cousins. On my mothers side there are 4 of us left from the family we grew up with. My dads side, they all disappeared. I know of some deaths, others I have no idea if their dead or alive.
it's 32 degrees without snow but the weekend could bring winter if the guessers are right.

Day started out very cold, no sun and will stay that way. Snow melted just enough yesterday that no more drifting so I took off the plow.
8N, yep, no place colder than the seat of a tractor pushing snow.
Fessed up and told wifey there is a package coming and showed her the video of the LionChief Plus GP20.
My cousin lost her 41 year old son to a fall one week ago today. He lived in Florida, His brother lives in CA and sister in Tenn. Took this long to arrange things and get him back to IL. My cousin lives about 2.5 hours south of us and they just got a heck of a snow. Not sure if we will be able to make it down there for the service, day after tomorrow? I have never even seen her children. All of us cousins lost touch after Grand-pa died in 1968. Sad how things like that can happen to a family. As kids we were very close because of grandmother and grandfather. Then everyone just blew in the wind and lived their lives.

Mornin' FellasThanks for the kind words for my aunt. Unfortunately I just can't go. The kids have school tomorrow and I don't want to take the out. Mom and Dad can't stay here because we're 2+ hours from where the funeral will be and with all the snow between them and here and between here and Eastern PA it is just not doable. We've talked through all the options and none work out... sucks. The house in Pittsburgh has a full basement, not a crawl space. There are some who finish them, but mine is not. The ceiling would be very low due to utilities being run under the floor joists and not through them. Had thought of redoing the wiring and plumbing so the runs that go perpendicular to the joists would all run to either the front or back wall or to the beam in the center of the house... but that would be a major expense and just not worth it.

32 and cloudy. We did not get any of the bad stuff. Lucky. Disconnecting this computer. Replacing this old computer. Have a good one.
Morning all
Snowed about 2" and the weather guys called it significant? Already scaring folks for next weekend with "large numbers". I guess they get paid to create a crisis so that you'll watch.
Anyways I hope everyone has a great week. Got to repair a ZW over the weekend. New terminals and cord. These things are built like tanks.

Field house was closed due to weather so no Mini practice. Shoveled walks again. Got Christmas tree put up and helped wife take down her Christmas village. Watched Man U. beat Tottenham 1-0. Started working on a Lionel puzzle I got for Christmas. Commute will be interesting tomorrow if roads freeze over. I hope everyone has a good day.
Hello there,
depending on which guesser between 1 and 12 inches was predicted. We ended up with 2 inches of fluffy snow. Plowed the Lutheran parking lot before going to 7AM Mass. Son can deal with the rest later. It was supposed to Snohio another couple of inches but it didn't happen.
Spent the rest of the day on shopping, dinner at Texas Roadhouse, a visit with Mom, watching the 254E circle the tree and a nap. Slowly but surely improving and experiencing what I was told to expect.
Spent a couple hours yesterday helping son and cousin grind cow feed. I ran the lever to fill the bags. Took longer than expected because the mixer broke and had to afro engineer a repair.
Fife.....found out this AM the Altoona Train Show is March 10. March 9 Mrs and I have Tickets to see the Oak Ridge Boys and a room reservation in Lancaster PA so I'll be missing it. We'll miss each other again . You going to make York?
Now helping(watching) Mrs put together an 18 quart roaster of veggie soup. No recipe other than some beef(slow cooked all day), at least 9 different veggies, cook overnight and season to taste. Best get ready for bed.Prayers for those in need.

88 - Condolancws for your loss.
Kev - I've still got a '57 Chevy I bought when I was 18. That also generated the purchase of a bunch of tools as well. Your Ranger with a snow plow is indeed a luxery - seems the coldest place I remember being is on the seat of an 8N while plowing snow with a grader blade.
Woke up to about 12" of snow on the deck and about 8" of snow in the yard. Got another 3 or 4 inches on top of that on Saturday. Spent a big chunk of yesterday and today digging the cars and driveway out. Still need to dig out the alley to be able to get the wife's minivan to the street.
The MKT NW2 with LionChief+ showed up this week. Looks good on the initial take it out of the box inspection. Have not had a chance to run it yet.
We spent last Tuesday with the medical industry. My wife had a doctor appointment with a specialest, who sent her to two labs and ordered a CT scan. Good news, the doctor has scheduled her for an out patient proceedure in the near future to treat her symptom, but is still trying to figure out what caused it.
Evening all.
Well about a month ago or so I went over to the dark side ( for me anyway) and bought not one but two MTH train-sets with Pennsylvania 6-8-6 turbines in them, one freight and one passenger. Well after buying 2 BCR's for them and replacing the connector for the BCR in one, and finally being able to get to one of my zw's I was able to test them. at first the one had no sound, but I figured it out, theres a tiny volume control on bottom of tender. Sound wasn't really a concern to me, as much as they worked. I got them cheap enough thou that I wouldn't mind putting the money out for TMCC through Electric Rail Road if I had to. So end results so far I'm happy but only running them on a 9' section of track on one of the shelves.
Otherwise today was a slow but peaceful day. Not much else to report. Hope all had a good day

Good afternoon from an overcast and snowey 35*F Southern Ohio,
I'm home from Masses and the family is on their way. It is snowing like crazy but too warm to stick. I picked up 15 pounds of salt to start the tanning process on the deer hide. This should be interesting. It starts with scraping off all the fat and flesh, the salt to dry the hide.
Kev - Maybe it will be delivered when she is not home.
Roy - Thanks for the tip, now to decide to pay photobucket $$$ or switch
Got to go
May Go, may God bless
Jim
Got it Roy, just thought I would ask.
I Ordered it last night. Delivered from Mario's trains. It was $66.00 off list.

Been wanting to try out the LionChief Plus stuff.
Won't tell her,,, Till it shows!
Well the snow has ended and we got just about 5" over all. It was lite and drifting so I needed to plow with the Ranger several times to keep the lane open. Several places always drift shut. Today it is just above freezing so it should crust over and I can remove the plow. Sure is nicer plowing in a heated cab than on an open tractor.
Morning gang!
36 this am and very gray/overcast. Been one of those winters where we do not see the sun much. Might hit upper 60's later this week and then another plunge for next weekend.
Had dinner out with friends/neighbors last two nights. Headed to a play this afternoon. Entire family is going.
Kev - I do not know about the trains they run. They are brought in after the setup and removed prior to the removal. They have some paid and volunteer workers who sometimes bring their own trains in to run. The majority of trains have their electronics removed and replaced with an 8 amp full wave rectifier as the tracks are all controlled with timers so the trains run appox 1-3 minutes on (depending on the length of the track) and 1-2 minutes off. The cycling is required to keep from burning up the can motors since the trains run over 10-12 hrs each day from the week prior to Thanksgiving until the first full week in Jan. The volunteers/workers maintain the trains.
Phish - you can move your photos but it is tedious. Lots of YT videos offering methods. The photo sites (inc Apple Cloud) do not want it to be easy to move your photos. SF recently offered a way to grab an album and move it. It took me a week of spare time (many hours) while watching TV to get my stuff from iCloud to SF.
Morning. Cold rain. About to end per radar.
Brent, sorry for your loss.
Have a good week ahead.
Thanks all for the comments on the shelves, but, they where here when I moved in, I just filled them with the proper items LOL.
Hope all have a good Sunday, I'll talk to you all later
Very quiet day at work Friday, which was nice. Weather was brisk for walk but dry. Watched Blue Bloods Friday night. De-decorated tree and shoveled sidewalks today. Went to Mass and then 2 for 1 fish at Arby's. Very good. Prayers for Brent and family. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good Afternoon from overcast 32*F Southern Ohio,
We were predicted to get 2-5" of snow but it was only a dusting. My bride is over at her mom's as she had another bad spell earlier this afternoon. Her siblings are blaming my bride for their mother's condition because of allowing the doctors to prescribe a drug for what she has. Amazing how many people are getting their medical degrees from google.
I picked up ~ 90 pounds of venision from the butcher from the big doe I shot last week. The freezer is pretty full.
All of the decorations are now down and put away. Furniture returned to place and all cleaned up. Whew.
Brent - More prayers for you and your family. Good idea to go up. Is it crawl space or basement? Either way more room below the main level is always a plus.
Chief - May God have mercy on the soul of the police officer.
Roy - I wonder if I could move my pictures from photobucket to shutterfly??
RT - Nice shelves.
Banks - It is the best of both worlds! Minutes from school stores etc. and on three side nothing but woods and on the forth lights in the distance and neighbors you see through the trees.
Time to getready for Mass
May God bless
Afternoon All! (Konnichiwa Roy!)
Same as Sir James - hovering around 28 and hopefully no white stuff.
Just taking a quick break from my Saturday domestic duties before the "boss" yells at me to get to work!!
Roy - Nice looking layout! I had to laugh at the guy narrating the video when he saw The Polar Express section and the snow. Tell him to come up here. The novelty will wear off in a hurry!
Brent - Prayers to you and the family. Hopefully the logistics will work out.
Kev - Yeah, that's been an unfortunate flaw with those hoppers. Like RT said, it's been covered in depth on the other forum. Some of them don't seem to sit sqaure on the trucks and they hit against that bit of flashing on the underside of the brace. A quick file down and you're good to go.
Have a good one and prayers.
Rob
Cloudy and 28 this morning. The snow is suppose to stay south of us but looking at the radar way to the west I'm not so sure.
Club meet tonight, always a good evening visiting with toy train friends.
Ahhhhh! Snow! Toilet paper, milk, eggs, bread. Everybody we're all going to be stranded! LOL. Weather and news people.
Heading to the shop to play with trains. Have a safe day all.
KRM - Athearn (HO) had flat weights in their kits that you could install along hopper slope sheets. Probably tons of them in boxes under tables at train shows.
Snowing on The North Bluff above Marseilles. Very light and not heavy so will be easy to move. They are calling now for 3" to 5". If 3" so be it. If 5" I will put the plow on the Ranger and do the lane. South of us they are getting hammered with the stuff.
Fife, you are reading my mind on adding some weight. TKS. So far it seems okay since I made clearance with the dremmel tool. With this Hopper car it would be hard to center some weight over the truck bolsters with the slope of the car body so I may have to just add some on the inside center of the hopper.
Best get with the day.
Forgot to say Great Video Roy. I have been pining for one of those BNSF LionChief Plus GP 20s. Is that what that was?? The 6-82171??? If so what did you think of it???
Mornin' boys. Waiting for the snohizo along the Patterson Creek cut-off. Ain't gotta be anywhere, so I shall stay hoonkert en zee boonkert.
88 - Sorry for your loss. Perhaps your folks can stay with you, as being around grandkids helps ease the pain.
KRM - I suspect you're not alone with the Menard's wheel problem. Centering some weight over the truck bolsters sometimes helps.
Evening all!
Another gray, 40's day. Rain did not start this morning, but trying now.
Long day today removing buildings, removable track sections, bridges, elevated rail lines, between module wiring ( mostly unplugging connectors and then securing the ends), wrapping/packing buildings (around 100). Final building packing Monday and then start disassembling the ticket office, station roof sections, display walls, lighting. First semi truck load (1 of 3) Tuesday at 6 am.
Here's a link to this years display.

88 - prayers. Hopefully you can find a way to attend.
88 for Your Aunt and family.
Afternoon fellasKeep the prayers coming! On a sad note... my second eldest aunt's (Dad's sister) husband went in for chemo treatment for prostate cancer on Tuesday. While there she complained of pain in her back and they took her down to the ER. She was admitted after they found an infection in her blood, Wednesday at Noon she met her parents, and 3 brothers in Heaven. Unfortunately the weather in eastern PA is going to be downright aweful this weekend so they are postponing the services till Tuesday, and TheVPQ flys out to Seattle on Monday, so I will not be able to attend. Really wish I could go because my parents did a bunch of work on the house with me the past 2 weekends, and I am sure my father is going to need a lot of support. This is the first sister to pass. There were 13, now 9. Funny story... the aunt that passed, and her older sister married brothers, my grand parents gave them a rough time when they asked for their daughters' hands.RT - Nice shelves. Gives me some ideas for shelving in the next train room.
Morning all, makeing lunch then time too help wife shower so we can go do some grocery shopping.
Kevin the real problem is that I probably ( like others in here ) could fill all 8 shelves and still have trains hiding in boxes. My hope since I don't have a basement, to convert the garage here in the new house to my train room.I need to change what was a window ( now blocked off ) and make it a door from the house into the added on garage. And close off the garage door entrence area as it has openings along the side of it where it meets the garage that are up to 3/8" opening. So that would not do. but once that is all done I can get hvac guys come back and add heat and air to that area. Then I will put down a laminate wood grain floor. That's when I can start a layout and shelves in there. In the mean time I'm going to have a small one next to my desk in here.
Hope all have a good day
