Hello  there,

-8 and dead calm at 730 this AM when Mrs and I left for mass. Got up to +8 bout 2 pm when we left for doc. +3 a bit ago when I looked.

Son found water froze in barn this morning. Found it was a valve that should have had an extra turn of heat trace. An easy fix, wrapped it in insulation. Hasn't been this cold since we redid the heat trace a few years ago.

Follow up with doc went well. After a bunch of questions it was determined I am slightly ahead of the curve for being 5 weeks post op. Even with the set back 2 weeks ago. Weight restrictions were removed. Lift with care, my body will let me know if it's to much .

Roy. ....sounds like you have enough electronics there to automate a PPG glass cutting line

Time for sleep

Survived night two of below -20. Last night the wind was not as bad so it felt better than it was. Was -22 at 5:00AM and up to -9 at 8:00. Now it is a very warm -2. Will warm up from here with some snow tonight and tomorrow.

Had a deer bleed all over the feed pan. I think one got cut on the rusty pan so we got a new pan today at Farm & Fleet and they are afraid of it. Laugh. The young ones are not near as afraid as the older ones. Had a nice young 8 pointer at the pan last night. He was nice to watch. We have about 15 showinf up every day with this super cold weather.

Got to feed them again!

Lows and highs here have been in the single digits, both + and -.  Really windy Tuesday and Wednesday. Started out about 4 degrees this morning, supposed to get to the low 30's this afternoon.  Predicting 60 by Sunday.

The PE Conductor gateman I ordered got here Wednesday.  Nice piece.  It is the new plug & play connection system.  Looks like that connection system will simplify hook up, but eliminate the simple electrical circuit lessons of the old contactor system, or the insulated rail scheme.  Need to purchase the proper Plug & Play Fastrack pieces to use that as well.

The instruction manual does describe methods to hook up to existing Fastrack and tubular track, though these will not give automatic operation of the gatehouse, rather you need to use the included manual control.  These alternate methods also rely on the "included 3 pin female connector with 8" pigtail" - which was not included in my box.  I'll have to chase one of those down.

About all for now.

Good Morning from clear sunny -2°F Southern Ohio,

We moved the rabbits into the garage last night and ensured the heat lamp and water heater was working in the chicken coop last night.  By Sunday going to warm up.  The kids are off from school so my bride is going to keep them busy with chores today.  The layout roadbed is to be delivered but the weather is probably going to delay delivery.  If not working on the layout roadbed this weekend I’ll probably be burning brush again Friday and Saturday.

anjdevil2 - Try some silicon spray on the driver’s door seal.  Your comment about the flamingo reminded me, when we moved a year and a half ago we brought our yard flamingo with us and it is proudly displayed by the most used entry door.  When I placed it there my bride looked and me and said, “Really?”  I said yes, it makes me think of friends!

May God bless you and your families

Jim

Frosty Mornin' Fellas

Woke to a 0 degree temp this morning... no telling what the windchill is. 2 hr delay for schools (off yesterday). Busy packing up the house and getting the project list cleared. Still waiting on final approval from the county on permits (apparently the county doesn't work when it snows either). Funny... when I worked in an office I was expected to be there unless we were under a State of Emergency and all roads were closed by the state...

Fife - Nice pic! Always quick with the words of wisdom too. Thumbs Up

Banks - prayers bud!

Can't remember what else I was going to say... so gonna run.

Stay warm!

Hello there,

cold is the word of the day. It was +2 at 645 this AM and dead calm. Steadily rose to 20 about noon and the wind and snohio squalls started. Got a couple more inches to add to the 3 from yesterday. Wind is gone and it was -4 at last call. Predicted 54 Sunday Pm.

Hasn't been this cold here in several years.

Kev the temps there are dangerous, be careful.

Mrs had a had an early dismisal today and closed tomorrow. More sortn and throwin today and tomorrow before heading to the doc. Also some Mom stuff reared it's head so got to deal with it.

Yesterday another B of B disk, one more to go, and offered moral support while son got a snowmobile out of the garage.

Nite all, before I drop the tablet again.

Prayers for those in need

Good evening all,

Made it to work today, which is better than more than half the office in my division.  Too cold to walk outside so took to the tunnels that connect downtown.  Vegged out on Hill Street Blues DVD again.  Almost thru first season.  "Let's be careful out there!"  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

anjdevil - I saw those.  I'm honored.  I picked up the old time sofa, gold framed mirror, and mantle clock.  They look good in a pile on the Marx loading dock.  I also bought the pathways.

Yup, it is cold! Heat wave right now at -10!!

Walking to the shed is about as far as you want to go today. it is about 150 to 200 foot depending on if you walk a straight line or use the driveway. Went out through the snow to the septic field drain by the ravine and it seems to still be flowing, Thank God for that!

If we make it through the night (real temp of -28 if they are right) there is a good chance we will be okay. Friday it will break 0 and go up from there for 3 days. I am going to put adding some Great Stuff sealer between the basement top of wall and sill plate on my list of to do's when things warm up.

Fired up the Rusty Ranger to check the mail,,,,, to find out it is so darn cold they told the mail carriers to stay home. WTH is with that? Truck was sure stiff and did not want to move but got around to it after a minute or two of warm up.

DougM must of worked from home today because all rail line mass transit into and out of Chicago are shut down till Friday. I see it was real temp where he lives of -24 this morning!

Be safe guys!

Tonight's fun, now -16!

Tonight
Mostly clear, with a low around -29. Wind chill values as low as -44. West wind 5 to 10 mph.
Thursday
Snow, mainly after 3pm. High near -1. Wind chill values as low as -44. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Thursday Night
Snow, mainly before midnight. Temperature rising to around 9 by 5am. Wind chill values as low as -15. East southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Friday
Partly sunny, with a high near 24. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm.

Afternoon All,

This is unbelievable. We're expecting a windchill of -35 overnight. Hope DougM and Kev and the Illinois folks are doing okay. My wife said one news report was it was WARMER in Antartica than in Chicago!!

Having my dad over for supper tonight. He's still the "bachelor" while my mom is helping my sister with her recovery. Not much else going on considering outside.

I've been spending a lot of time train watching with Virtual Railfan. Too cold to do the real thing!! Nice to check out the different locations.

Marty - I've been fooling around a bit with RR-Track too. Still working on that dream layout!

Have a good one and prayers. Stay warm!!

Getting colder today but not Illinois cold.  Down to -4 over night.

Going home and working out and then staying put.  Might play around with RR track.

Stay warm everyone!

Morning deep freezers!

Only 39 here and did not freeze last night. May get into 60's by the weekend.

Coldest I have experienced is Crested Butte CO. -40 nights/morning and -5/0 during the day with a stiff breeze. Could only ski a couple hours a day. So cold. Flew into Madison WI one late afternoon, admiring the lake. Next morning the lake was completely frozen over.

News noted Niagara Falls are freezing over.

Stay warm guys! Be careful out there! Time for another cup...

17F at 0700 this morning - all my doors were frozen, finally got the right rear door open and climbed through - on my way to work, all the lights and warnings were going off as the doors were thawing out.....supposed to get to a sub-tropical 33F later then nose dive to the 0s and single digits.

Fife - I neglicted to tell you, whilst at Michael's I picked up a couple of yard flamingos for my house on the layout in honor of you.....(One of MTHs decorated houses is almost an exact replica of my house), so when that goes up, they will be in the front yard...

BURRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Just as they said,, -23 at 7:40AM, just when you want them to be wrong. Bang Head

Sure is easy to find where your house has air leaks on a day like this.

Found a place between the top of foundation wall and plate that had gaps letting cold air in. So stuffed those up and so far so good. How did I find it? Frost on the floor. Whistling

Hope DougM is doing okay!

Evening all!

Missed a day so behind. We got a freeze last night but not the predicted deep freeze. It's cold but not like Chi-Town! So we will not get a string of freezing days as the front skipped above us here.

Fife - nice, some dose of reality for the kid Smile, Wink & Grin

MikeC - hope for improvement tomorrow!

Good evening all,

Should have been a good day, quiet day at work, got CTT and Lionel catalog....should have been.  Just unsettled.  Tomorrow could be a long day commute and weather wise.  Got to play indoor soccer with the high school kids again.   Wore me out.  I hope everyone has a good day....and stays warm.

Brent & MikeC - Yeah, ya caught me....and I try to pride myself on spelling and grammar....lol.....Mike, I'm hoping we are all done with the missing periods...lol!!!

Banks - Moth to flame situation, trust me, it's very complicated.

Fife - Nice on the newspaper.  Yeah, I'm really considering getting it.  I sat looking at it in my hands for like 5-10 minutes.......and I have a siding it would work on.

No layout work last night, ran to bed early, starting to get the crud (AGAIN!), so snapped out at 9, not before watching my NJ Devils POUND the Peguins 4-1 before slamming the eye lids shut (Final - 6 to 3 Devils).

Waiting for the Rain/Snow/Rain/Snow event....cuz no one knows what we are getting....until it's too late.....

Checking in.

Cloudy and 12 degrees. Monday's 5 inches of snow has been cleared, now the sub zero temps approach. We have the oldest car in the garage but the Escape will have to sit in the driveway. I just won't try to start it till we get back to or near +.

S.J.

Silicone will work just fine, I would use some screws to hold the track down for 24 hours. After it sets you could remome the screws. The screws carry sound to the wood. Removing them will make it quieter.

Good Morning from a windy 24°F Southern Ohio,

It is just starting to spit a little snow, so travel is good, just cold.  We had a quiet evening, the youngest did well at her swim meet and is being bumped up to the “A” team (the fastest) for her races.  We’re really proud of her swimming ability.  She is the only freshman on the A team.

The vendor of the foam road bed suggested attaching the track to the roadbed with clear latex caulk.  I’m finding clear silicon but not latex.  Do you think the clear silicon will work too?  I’ll contact the vendor for clarification.

Got to go.  May God bless you and your families

Jim
