Hi guys,

I'm still alive, doing OK.

There sure has been alot going on here.  I too was very disappointed to see Bob Keller leave.  Talked with him a few times, he always seemed  very resonable and always just, as well as very humerous.

It wouldn't surprise me if the plug was pulled on this forum under the guise of security and cost of repair/update to the software.  Especially when you consider the activity level and the ratio of subscribers vs participants.  Oh well what will be, will be.  Certainly hope that does NOT happen though.

On the home front we are still dealing with the FIL/MIL issues.  He last got out of the hospital less than two weeks ago, and went back in today.  Primary issue is that he has a pacemaker/defib in his chest and is on extensive medications including blood thinners.  So when he falls its an automatic CT scan, and X-Rays.  Due to the defib, they cannot due a MRI on him.  They have to rule out immediately any brain damage due to the fall.  Then with his frail condition he is so weak, he is practically bed ridden.  So on it goes.

On a much brighter note, I went down to Sandy Diego last week.  Took a Premier steam engine down to a fellow club member of Doug's, who is a Authorized MTH technician.  I was rather certain that there was a loose connection where the teather plugs into the engine.  Soon as I described the issue, Jim opened up the engine (3 screws), touched two contacts on the back of the board, and IT was fixed!  He really knew what he was doing.  Then went over to Doug's, and he, his wife, and I went for lunch.  Had a really nice visit.  Doug looks good, you would never know he has the issues he is fighting.

Also, talked with Ray, and Roy this week.  Gave Ray the contact information for Jim (above), and talked cars with Roy.  If necessary I may have to drive my El Camino to Roy's place so he and George would have a templete to model after installing the wire harness.  (I would enjoy the trip.)

As Kay is involved with her parents almost everyday, I have "LOTS" of time to spend in the train room.  I keep coming up with more things to do.  Today, I did a detailed analysis on traction tires.Smile  Tomorrow I think I may put together a F-100 fighter together that I have had for years.

Hope not but don't know, I hope this isn't my last post!  Just in case the forum disappears, I've really enjoyed the ride, and you all are a great bunch of people.

So take care and STAY Healthy!!

Don

V8Vega, you ain't kiddin'!  I used to go on the MR site from time to time but I don't bother anymore, some of those guys take what they do WAY too seriously!  Some downright hostile, some overly obsessed with "rivet counting,"  some with no sense of humor at all, you're right, they've been down in the basement too long.

Just because HO and N model railroaders have a cliche'd reputation of being social misfits doesn't mean they have to work to perfect the reputation!

Hey, next time you go to a train show and see the clubs with exhibition layouts look at the difference between the toy train guys and the other guys.  It's pretty apparant.

Morning/afternoon all!

Gonna be 110 today.! Cool It'sa dry heat!

Got the new tires/old wheels back on the El Cam yesterday. It was only 100 at the time and I had shade from a big tree! Checked all the inspection criteria for brakes, turn signals, lights (inc license plate lamp), mirrors, etc. Stopped at Autozone and picked up some new windshield wipers. Ordered some other parts on-line from RockAuto. Slowly coming together...Automobile...

Evening All!

It was a lousy day here. Lots of rain and more to come. Spent the afternoon with a few co-workers having some beverages.

Roy - Glad the El Camino is coming along. I really need to get back at my Camaro. What is this AIR pump you speak of? Mine somehow went MIA years ago........Stick out tongue

Don - Hope the in law situation improves. The Super Sabre!! Nice! I have a pile of half finished models I need to get back at too. File that under the same as my Camaro.

Firelock - Good point. Even though I find myself swinging more towards more scale realism, I still will always have a penchant  for 3 rails, oversized trucks and couplers and swinging pilots!

Have a good one and prayers.

Good evening all,

Long day helping daughter pack and load vehicles.  Left home around 7:30 and got home after 6.  Beat.  Crashed on couch for a while.  Most of stuff is out of apartment but she will have to make another trip.  Got to visit with Lucas some as he came to help his sis.  Intermittent rain all day as well.  At least it was cool.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Morning all!

Possibly 107 today

Worked on garage organization yesterday. Was a balmy 91 inside...

The ms and I went out for pitza last night. Pitza place is BYOB, so a nice bottle of wine was at hand. At dusk we took a dip in the pool. It was quite pleasant

Rob - yeah, it would be nice to lose the AIR system. Visual inspection required here, but over 24 yrs old, it doesn't have to work, but it all has to be there.

More garage org work today and kids will come this evening for dinner.

Good Morning Guys & Gals !

This week ended on some really great news. Had an appointment with the nephrologist on Thursady and I quote " when I got your blood work results I had to double check to verify they gave me the correct report, absolutely fabulous improvement over June blood work. To the point that dialysis possibility in the future is all but eliminated". Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs Up

Second great news is that I have an appointment with the surgeon to re-evaluate the possibility of going forward with hernia repair surgery now that my cardiologist has given the surgeon a green light, within some restrictions of course, but this time last year as well as three months ago it was an adamant NO for surgery by all of my doctors. It does pay to do one's own research to support your point of view. Beer

Friday was museum day, no pile-ups and control systems functioned well.

Later all ! Big Smile

Hello there,

Doug...........GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!

Grandson managed a 1st and 2nd yesterday at the drags. The kid who has been winning was having engine issues. The main event was underway but got rained out. It rained here most of the night. Alternating clouds rain and sun today. Chance of thunderstorms all week.

Spent Friday morning working on Mom paperwork. Then helped son get ready to bale hay. He had to work 2nd shift. One of his friends came and stacked on the wagon while I ran the tractor, We got 176 bales of nice 2nd cutting alfalfa. For now they are on the wagon in the shed. Move it to the barn next week. Still have about 300 bales to make the next time we get good weather. Found where the one Gravely has been leaking gas, A 12” section of rubber fuel line from tank to steel line was seeping gas its entire length. So glad there is ethanol in gas nowadays.........NOT. One local station is selling ethanol free gas. Started using it in all our small engines.

Roy.......sucks about the AIR system. I removed it from a couple of cars. Usually the tubes rust out. Can you buy replacements?

Planning to spend the rest of the day napping. Not sure what the week will bring

Prayers for those in need

Don.....Yes, you need more train time.

Greetings,

Doug, That is absolutely fantastic!!! BowYeah  Now I suppose your going to be signing up for a marathon.  Hope they can get that surgery scheduled soon for you.

Spent yesterday afternoon installing a rear view camera in Chris' FJ.  It works great and will be a big help when off roading.  We no more than get finished and he says, "I'll bet your happy to get that done, and get it off your "to do list"."  I said definetely!  So he replies, "Well I've got another week-end project for us."  And pulls out an air compressor to install on the firewall.  It is suppose to satisfy two purposes; provide general air for tires, etc..  And support wheel lockers that are planned to be installed.  Fortunately it looks like its just a matter of securing it, and running to 12v wires to it.  We'll see.

Kays dad got released from the hospital yesterday.  Took all day waiting, and waiting.  But he is home again, for how long?  Is anybodys guess.  (Didn't get a call last night, so that's a good sign.)

Great news Doug!

Stay healthy and be safe!

edit;

Buckeye, Just saw your post.  You're not doing this retirement thing right!     Your NOT supposed to be moving toward colder weather, but AWAY from it!  (Oh, I think someone may have hacked your email account.  Unless, you intended on sending me Weight Loss lotion as advertised on the Sharks show. Whistling

Good evening all,

Great news on the health report, Doug!  Buckeye, good luck with the move.  Next year when we go to Mid-Ohio, we will have to see if we can get together before or after the race as you will be in the neighborhood.  Weather cooperated so I could mow the yard.  Somewhat warm but tolerable.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Evening all!

Hit 106 here (in the shade) this afternoon.

Dougnotta - great news!!!!!!!!!

Buckeye - we like to say 100+ keeps the rif-raf out - appears to be working!?

Got diverted today, son and his apt roommate scored a free washer/dryer set in great shape! He needed help changing out the power cord on the dryer. So we went to Lowes and got the cord ($21) and got 'er done! We also made sure the washer was working properly. As that takes a while we quaffed some beers and watched NHRA races.

DonB - what backup camera did Chris get? my son would be interested for his Wrangler.

Banks - congas on the GS's win!

Just saw the weather forecast, going to be hot, hot, hot this week.  105 to 113 !

Roy, The camera we installed is by Insane Audio.  Got that one for compatibility with the software in the Insane Radio.  Straight forward just a couple of RCA type connectors.

Good Morning from overcast 66°F Southern Ohio,

It has been a busy week.  On the train front, with the rain this weekend, the kids and I stripped the wallpaper from the bedroom soon to be train room over the weekend.  We used a Wagner wallpaper stripper and it made the job fairly quick and easy.  There will be minimal wall patching, and I located the studs for the shelf brackets for the glass shelves, and bought some sky blue paint.  The room has blue carpet that I’m going to keep and I plan on getting one of the mural backgrounds for the side where the layout will be.  For right now, the layout will be the American Flyer All Aboard panels, and I’ll add a few accessories that will be compatible without major re-working of the panels.  I’m also going to set in place my test track that is an AF inner loop and 3 rail outer loop mounted on OSB with indoor outdoor carpet.  Not fancy but real handy to use for a step above bench top testing.

Roy - I put a Payne back up camera on the truck and it works great.  I think it was around $25 a couple years ago.  Being in Tex, is the El Cam solid?

Buckeye - Does the new place have place for your layout?

Doug - Praise be God for answered prayers.

Mike - Moving makes you realize how much and how quickly you acquire “stuff”

Need to check on the guys

May God bless

Jim

Morning all!

COLD FRONT this morning! 86! and will only hit 103 today!!!!

Don and Phish - thanks! I will check into the camera options.

Phish - the El Cam is solid. Only surface rust in some areas. In the last 20 yrs of primarily sitting outdoors, no interior leaks, so floor pans are solid.

79 degrees some clouds but still no helpful rain.

A birthday party on Saturday and shopping for a kitchen stove on Sunday. The control panel took a dump. A loud Zap like a cap popped but I couldn't even find a burnt spot. So not sure what blew. It did not pop the breaker.

I made my hotel reservation for York today.  Smile, Wink & Grin

I have started to pack train cars for the move. Found two that were lost. Thumbs Up  One thing I realized was that I have purchased several great looking cars for under $20.00 each. In fact there are several like-new under $10.00. You just gotta look.

After a month without rain we seem to get a small storm everyday.  Storm  Unlike Texas Cowboy it is a comfortable 73o.

Mike C......Yes, I know exactly where the track is near Lexington, Ohio. We will be about 45 minuites to the southeast.

Good evening all,

Very quiet day at work.  Every one else was gone.  If I known that, I would have stayed home as well.  Did get some tasks done.  Weather was nice for walk.  Practiced with junior high kids.  Did a very low cut on grass behind pole barn, removed major dead limbs from red bud tree, and wrapped big honey suckle plant in black plastic.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Afternoon from sunny 84°F Southern Ohio,

I want to find a photo sharing provider so I start sharing the room transformation from bedroom to train room.  As I was looking out the basement window I saw about 6 young Brown Snakes in the window well.  I figure it helps keep the bugs in check.  Should be able to wipe the walls down tonight then maybe paint Friday or Saturday depending on the weather.

Buckeye -I’m sure you can come up with a track plan to use what limited space you have.  When I boxed up my trains and moved them I was surprised at what I had that I had forgotten about.

Roy - A solid El Camino would be a really cool project.

Chief - Does being so close to Kentucky get me a bye on the Rif Raff?

May God bless

Jim

Good evening all,

Very long day at work as work went to he!! in a handbasket with everything going to junk.  Survived and tomorrow should be better.  Warm for walk.  Playoff game in that All-American sport tonight was spectacular.   We were 8 playing 1 and we were tied at the end of regulation and OT 2-2.  We lost 8-7 on PKs.  I did get an assist and I sort of helped set up the second goal as well.  Their keeper was messing around with the ball while I chased him.  He finally kicked it away but putzed the ball to one of our players who shot it over his head into the net because he had wandered too far from the goal.   (heh heh, old age and treachery)  Oh and by the way, we only had 10 players to their 12 (11 + sub).  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
