Good evening all,

This departure of Bob Keller has obviously stirred some response among this group.  I am not sure what the future holds for CTT and for any of the other magazines.  Most of them have declining numbers of pages from earlier, better days.  I would suggest we enjoy them for as long as they exist and hope that if they do go away, that other sources of information arise.  In the Indycar, there are those of us who mourn the demise of variety in engines and chassis and the innovation of technology that occurred for many many years.  On the other hand, the Indy 500 does still exist and the series appears to be improving in terms of interest and number of competitors.  As long as CTT, MR, Garden Railway, and the Trains (along with Classic Trains) are still being produced, hope still lives.  Even if all that goes away, there is TCA, LCCA, and LOTS along with NMRA and other groups that generate publications.

It was a quiet day at work.  Got the Encore back.  Weather was less humid.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mike I think the first thing you would see is one of two things, End of paper and go to digital only or that CTT got merged into MR which still would be about 85%+ HO/n and 15% if lucky O/S

I'll stay till my script runs out. Sooner if they try to push me into an on line Mag. Banks nailed it and I said it a long time ago. They are not putting articles in the mag but trying to sell us seperately what we have already paid to expect.

Morning all!

The pundits say we could hit as high as 107 the next several days Thumbs Up Devil

Hate to see the changes and wish Bob well in future endeavours. Publishing paper in today's world is a tough business. Every publication I have in hobby, professional, newspapers (inc the Wall Street Journal), and other interests have seriously declined in page count, not for lack of articles, but in advertising, an important source of revenue to make publishing work.

Morning all.  Rained last night which was good.  Cooler today.

Buckeye text me about Bob.  Will not comment on Kalmbach.  New CEO must be like Harrison was at CSX.  They really don't give a "hoot" about us [as you can see with crappy software].    I visited them when I was with Pro Mariner.  Bob and several others were the only friendly ones I met.    Better quit before I get banned.

Have a good one.

Hello there,

back to the real world.

Working on garden, yard and inside stuff. Yesterday was the first rain in almost 2 weeks. Got several heavy downpours. Went to check the rain guage and found it broken. Judging from the weather guessers in the area we got 2 or 3 inches. Today at baseball camp with grandson. His mom is visiting cancer doc. Yard work later.

Prayers for those in need

Hey, good morning!

I returned home last night after a week in the hospital for a skin infection.  Let's just say it wasn't a fun thing, especially in the are in which it was located.  I will not elaborate, but it was in a "sensisitive" area.  I'm home scanning cars, after being out that long.....

I'm very surprised that Mr. Keller was relieved from his duties at CTT and have send a message to the "powers that be" that I am not happy about it.  Not sure if will matter, but, as a long time subscriber, my voice should be heard.

Not much going on, I did score a free layout table and shelving from a gentleman in NJ that has retired his layout.  I'll look to get the benchwork in the next few weeks.

Other than that, home all are will.  Will check in when I can.

Just to clarify, "relieved of duties" sounds so ominous. My position was elminated. A business decision was made to fit the resources available and I can't argue with it. The market (and world) is changing and this is a case where there is nobody to blame.

For my part I've tremedously enjoyed participating in something so close to the hearts of so many people. None of us on the CTT staff could have done this without you all!

Well Bob like Da Chief said we can't write what we really think about this decision. Removing seasoned employees never leaves good results. All the best to you and the K gets the Fickled Finger of Fate award today.

Bob, THANK YOU for making the forum and CTT entertaining and informative.  The magazine is poorer because you are leaving.

I pray that you find something that fits your talents and hope it is in the toy train world.

Maybe TW TrainWorks?????

Bob Keller - You are the definition of CLASS ACT.  Hope to catch you on the flip side somewhere.  Perhaps you can become a youtube sensation...just don't make it all NYC, all the time...

Thank you Bob, for all you've done!

You're taking this with all the graciousness I'd expect from an Air Force officer and gentleman, but this old Marine does NOT intend to be gracious about it!

At first opportunity I'll be firing off a blistering message to the 'powers-that-be" at Kalmbach, and I invite all who feel as I do to do the same!

First Don Phillips at "Trains," now THIS!

Where will it end?  It's outrageous!

It's damnable!  There, I've said it and I don't give a rat's rear end if it gets this thread locked!

Anyone with me?

Bob, if you read these words, let me give you some advice.  Fire off some resume's to "Railroad Model Craftsman,"  "O Gauge Railroading," or "Model Railroading" magzines.  If you go there I'll follow you.

Feel free to PM me if you wish.

Thanks for letting us know, Bob. You seem to be taking it in stride (unlike most of us!). All the best to you. Certainly hope you continue to chime in to "The Pot" .

Good evening all,

Quite a day here.  First of all, good to hear from you, Bob.  Wish you well in your career.  I have walked in your shoes.   Stayed home today.  Was not well last night and thought it best to take it easy.  Did do some light yard work.  Went to my match tonight, but not enough of us showed.  Four out of eight games this year have been decided by forfeit and we have had no games where both sides had 11 at the same time.  Ridiculous.  Weather is really nice now.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Bob, let me join the others in both wishing you Godspeed and in deploring the decision to eliminate your position.  Even when I don't agree with you, I am eager to hear what you have to say, and I honor you service to the hobby for so long in so many ways.

However much the world changes, there will long be a need for the paper magazine.  Millenials are not the entire market, no matter what the MBAs think.  For one thing, they have no money to speak of, and few have any interest in almost ALL of the subjects Kalmbach publishes, trains and models in particular.  (There *are* exceptions, of course, such as my sons.)

I suspect the new Powers That Be believe they can reinvent the company to make itself more relevant to the kiddies, and they are about to bet the farm on that reinvention.  They may well succeed in surviving--though I doubt it--but I am pretty sure that, if they do, no one currently supporting them will care.

And that is a shame.

I have seen many companys disappear because of managers that think removing seasoned employees with rookies will save them money. IT doesn't work. My script has a long way to go but when it's done so am I. Wouldn't surprise me to see their forum diasappear as well.

Good afternoon guys, day started at a cool 61 heading to 80 this afternoon, Then rain starting this evening and running through the weekend. The SIL came by this morning to help trim back the woods from the edges of the grass areas. That was  nice for that is a heck of a lot of trimmer work. Then wife and I went to KFC for lunch and Krogers to stock up on food. We will see how the rest of the day goes.

Most places like to let people go just before the holidays. Been laid off twice, locked out once and on strike four times in just my time with the big CAT.

I always said they taught me how to live without them. Laugh And they did! Wink

Evening all!

Hit 107 today, 109 in some areas. It's HOT!  Cool

Got new tires mounted for the El Camino. $43 ea at Discount Tire, but the $20 mount and balance ran the price up! Will head out in the morning to get them mounted on the El Cam before it gets too hot.

Kev - tried to fix my Sears 38+ yr old 1 1/2 ton floor jack. Does not hold pressure and it is not air in the system. Pulled it apart. The piston's 'O Rings' in the ram base looked bad so thought I could get them out with a 'pick'. Unfortunately it is not an O ring but a multi-ring special seal assembly pressed into the hydraulic ram housing. So it is definitely trash now. Salvaged all the good steel plate, axles, rods, heavy wheels for machining projects. The remaining goes to the metal recycle bin. Don't really need one, but if I do I will get one of the aluminum jobs from HF.

Talked to Don B last night and got a recommendation from him for a guy in CA called El Camino Mike. Got hold of 'Mike' and he is pretty sure he has an engine compartment wiring harness I need. Eight yrs ago the AIR pump blew out and leaking exhaust into the engine compartment fried all the passenger side wiring harness which is why it has sat idle for 8 years.

Another nice cool morning Better than some for sure.
Never been to York or Hob Knobbed with any of those CTT guys so nothing personal for me.
Roy,  Me to on the Jack, same issue and I found a rebuild kit on line but it was 80% of what I paid for the jack back in 1978. So it made it to the iron pile. I bought one of these 3 ton from HF and it is nice, they say it is their best, comes up fast till it hits weight and then after that seems to need a lot of full stroke pumps to get to the top.
It was their best then about a week later I see this new 4 Ton one they have? May of been an even better pick??
Not like it will ever get the use of the good old Sears Jack!

I did run the trains last night for about 1/2 hour to just make them move.
