Afternoon all!

Absolutely beautiful day. Low 70s and blue sky. I took the week off in preparation of the Mrs.' hip surgery tomorrow. I'll get to role reverse and play "nurse" for the rest of the week. They say doctors and nurses make the worst patients. Great........

Dennis - Very surprising (and a bit disappointing) more folks didn't list any type of model interest. Sign of the times I guess. For cell phone cases, there's way too many options, so it would be difficult for manufacturers to include one. I swear by Otter Box for my phones. A little on the pricey side, but the amount of times I've dropped my phone or had some water splashed on it, it's been worth every cent!

Banks - Nice find with the caboose! Continued prayers for your daughter.

DougDG - Great video! I'd love to try filming with a drone some day.

Roy - I was going to go to MIS yesterday for the race, but Jr. ended up having to officiate summer football. Kind of glad I didn't with the lousy weather.

DougM - Glad you had a nice day. Wrigley is still on my bucket list.

Have a good one and prayers.

Rob

Slow moving today, Funny how easy it is to sleep in when it is raining. Did not get up till 8:30.

Cool and breezy with a high today of 73. Picked up another tenth of rain over night, just enough to keep everything wet.

Cleaned up the rest of a tree that fell yesterday and hauled it to the burn pile with the grapple on the JD. Going to need to cut grass whenever it dries up enough.

Not much else, just coasting today.

Bummer on the umbrella DougM!

DougDG, that was a cool video of the military train, Thanks!

Aloha from a grey and rainy Chicago. I just completed a chatty post full of news and clever things to say and it vanished. :(  So this version will be shorter. We enjoyed a nice weekend highlighted by a journey to Wrigley Field on Sat. where the bride and I successfully dodged rainstorms and enjoyed the baseball and a nice meal at one of the many Chicago hipster restaurants. I was unlucky enough to get off the train today into a downpour with my broken umbrella! So I'm a bit damp - so Happy Monday to me! Oh well, it could be worse.  You know, I don't think I've ever had grits like to eat. So I am avidly following Buckeye's adventures and everyone's advice.

Afternoon all!

A hot, humid, 95. some random clouds.

Got the new mailbox install finished. It has a revolving security slot. Mailman just shoves the mail into it. We are just down the street from the elementary school. Kids walk down alley after school and the older ones have a bad habit of stealing people's mail. This is a problem having alleys. Everyone has a 6 ft+ fence and folks can stealth their way down it...and it is real difficult to detect when your mail is stolen after delivery. One of my neighbors caught some kids stealing mail and called cops/post office. They did not care and did not do anything

Son and daughter/BF coming tonight for dinner. Son bought some nice NY strips that he is grilling for all of us. The missus is making baked potatoes.

Watching the NASCAR Michigan race.

Morning guys,

Woke up to the revenge of the dead bunny. Cat barfed all the un-digestible parts of the bunny he ate yesterday all over the house last night. Ugh! Ick!

We got 2" of rain overnight and have flash flood watch till noon. Last night's rain puts us at 3" in two days. Most got sucked up but I do need to re-grade the slope on the driveway from washout. Calling for 88 later, should be steamy.

No plans.

Mornin' boys.  Overcast & 65 in the Potomac Highlands.  Flash floods this PM.  Had to run Postwar steamers last night to calm down FifeMax's fear of Lightning.  Might head down to railyard a little early for some dustin' and a cleanin'.

Good evening all,

Just realized I did not post Friday.   Shortly after the Thursday post and the comment about sick days, I made several offerings to the porcelain goddess and did have to take a sick day Friday.  Did absolutely nothing but watch recordings of that "All American" sport which of course was a cure for what ailed me.   Mowed yard early Saturday morning and spent the day in Columbus, In with the wife.  Maybe my Thursday illness was an omen for the Saturday night race as both Foyt cars were last and next to last in the race.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning all !

Yesterday was my 6 mo. cancer CT. They used a contrast for better results however I can't do the the IV type, mine has to be the oral variety which means we there from about 8 am til almost 11 am. FYI, if you have compromised kidney(s) function the IV contrast causes immediate and non-repairable damage. In my case it could quite easily cause kidney failure and result in dialysis.

Spent the rest of the day at the museum. Didn't really feel up to it but a couple of the scheduled operators canceled at the last minute and that left only one operator to run the layout, which in my opinion is totally unacceptable.

Had my "scrapple & eggs" for breakfast, now it's time for morning meds.

Later all !

Hello there,

Buckeye......you've got no worries. I been eatn Grits for years and it ain't affected me,

been a busy week. Daughter is doctoring with a local Women's Breast Health Center with a doctor that has a good reputation treating Breast cancer. According to doc she has one of the easiest to beat. Surgery on Monday. Thanks for the continued prayers.

Yard is finally dry while I have time. One tree gone all but the trunk. It's about 36". Hoping to have help from son for it. The other tree has a lot of poison ivy. Need to take my time with it. No exposed skin and face coated with Vaseline. Goggles to keep it out of my eyes.

This evening while mowing the Gravely shut off and no crank. Found blown fuse. Since I couldn't put my hands on a spare I gingerly put the 2 ends together without a fuse. So far so good. I started it and smoke started leaking profusely. Got Mrs to help push it to the garage. Thankfully I was almost done. It will wait a bit.

Neighbor lady called this AM for me to till her garden since rain is predicted tomorrow. I put the tiller on the other Gravely and started that. About 20 x 50 feet. Got it covered but its still pretty wet. Tiller tines kept plugging with wet dirt.

I Scored a hard to find Gilbert HO caboose the other day on the bay .

$17.50 including shipping. Cheapest one I saw at York was $80 and that was firm.

Best try to sleep.

Prayers for those in need

OMG !!  Buckeye, your failing miserably in retirement.  I thought you had it under control, a 21 day cruise, a trip up to Lake Erie, you were doing so good!

Given the current situation with the GRITS, FORTUNATELY you live in "Buckeye" country.  The FIRST thing you need to do is a DAILY dose of 2 Buckeyes!  If you need help in locating them, let me know, I know where I can get them.  IF, you find that you are still experiencing those "southern notions", such as developing a desire for corn cobs, (may occur as the grits progress through your system).  Then a more significant antidote may be required.  You most likely will require some Scraple for a sure coarse relief.  Also, in the interium I suggest you try to occupy yourself with some other diverisinary tasks,  early seasonal preparation of the snow blower, practicing putting chains on and off the car, wrapping pipes in the basement, storing away lawn furniture.

Hopefully, it wont come to all that, the "Buckeyes" should remedy the situation.  Try to avoid camping, river fishing, and any form of "Frog Giggin".  Make sure you keep the car in the garage or drive way, resist the tempation of parking on the lawn.

Feel free to contact me if you need any more help.  (Make sure you keep the flannel shirts, and don't buy any bibs either.)

Finally, I suggest Eggs Benedict for breakfast.

Thank you Dr. Don.  Yes, a daily dose of Buckeyes should help.  I'll work on the snow blower tomorrow and put the car in the garage.

Buckeye Riveter

Dear Dr. Don Baker,

I have a medical problem that I need to discuss with you.  On Tuesday morning I was at the local Bob Evan's resturant and decided to order grits instead of hash browns. The grits arrived and they were really hot and I added about a tablespoon of honey.  The grits were really good and I ate most of them.

My question is this; Will I start acting like I live in North Carolina? Do I need to have my memory evaluated?  What happens now?  I have this tendancy now to say, "You all." I am thinking of spending time in Canada where I believe I will be cured before I put a junk car in my front yard for decoration.

Thank you for your assistance Dr. Baker.

Buckeye a few questions

1) have you put a porta potty in your yard yet? ( subsitute fir a out house. )

2) do you Have a craving for more grits?

3) have you put that old car in the yard yet? Have you removed the tires?

If you answer yes to two or more, you need to fly directly to Baker CA. and visit DR. Baker.

Buckeye, you are in no danger of turning southern.  You put honey in the grits which means you think grits are breakfast cereal.  You should put butter and pepper on grits.  And be sure to stir in the yolk from your eggs a bit.  The grits make sure you don’t leave yolk on the plate.

maybe you should switch from Bob Evans to Waffle House.  They will teach you how to eat grits correctly.

Morning All!,

Just got back from another "coffee 'n camera" trip to the CN mainline. I caught an Eastbound mixed. The cool thing about that train was one of the locomotives was SD70M-2 8002, the same one that was in my Lionel CN Coal Set. Kinda neat seeing the real thing.

Still decent temperatures out. Looks to be mid to high 70's for the next few days.

Sir James - Thanks for freshening up the Pot! Smile

Banks - Prayers from me as well for your daughter. As a few have mentioned, the advances in treatment are amazing. Hopefully, that will at least provide her with a silver lining.

Roy - Happy Anniversary!

Buckeye - I hope to deal with my "anemia" a little later this afternoon....... Beer

Kev - Your dilemma is starting to sound like Wile E Coyete vs. The Roadrunner. Maybe it's time to call ACME for an order of TNT!!! Big Smile All joking aside, I do feel your frustration.

Have a good one and prayers.

Just a quick stop.  Got back from a week's worth of retirement practice last week.  We towed the new house trailer to our place in Michigan.  The trip now takes us two days - my wife can no longer ride in a car for 12 hours comfortably, so we used the trailer as a 'hotel room'.  We overnighted in the Illinois State Fairground on the way there and on the way back - $20 per night instead of a $100 hotel room.  On the other hand the 5.7 Hemi was very thirsty - got about 10mpg on the trip.

Our dog traveled with us instead of being boarded.  Turns out that he travels well.  Spent most of the trip in the back seat of the truck with his chin on the back of my seat just off of my right shoulder.

This trip was retirement practice for work too.  There was a project running that everybody was nervous about and wanted all hands on deck.  The project went well, and they learned that I am not absolutely necessary.   I love it when the plan comes together Super Angry.

Not much on the train front, unless you count the walks the dog and I took on the Fred Meijer trail near Greenville, Michigan.  I'm pretty sure it is converted railroad grade.  We scared up a deer one day - dog was really not sure what to think about it.

I did manage to get the old Wheel Horse lawn tractor we have in Michigan woken up after slumbering for three or four years.  A battery charge, fresh gas, a 43 cent 'O' ring and a quick repair on the clutch pedal return spring got it going.  Still needs to have the oil changed and new tires.  Probably ought to replace the fuel lines as well.

All for now.
