Spring lasted about 3 days. Now things are crappy with more rain. I give the trains a lap now and then to keep the tracks clean.

Good morning Dudes & Dudettes !

Got back from Fla late last nite, been gone since 4/21 for a family emergency. My sister-in-law had taken really bad turn with the cancer. My daughter and I had planned on flying down the second week of May but my BetterHalf called on the 20th and told me that we had better catch the first available flights on 4/21. Got to spend a few days with her and rest of the family before she passed away at home on the 24th. Followed by yours truly going to the ER on the 25th and spending the rest of the week in the hospital.

Got a lot of catching up to do, but it is great to be back home.

Later all.

Evening all!

Storms last night. Sat on porch and watched with adult beverages. Neighbors joined us. It was fun. Was supposed to rain all day today but did not. Clearing and nice breeze, cooler air, settling in for a few days. Nice!

Got the boat out for a shake down cruise this afternoon. All went well!

Dougnotta - ow! Glad you are ok. Sympathies for your family's loss. So glad you made it there in time. Angel

Dennis - sounds like the trip was well worth it Thumbs Up

Ray - congrats on your son's anniversary. Glad they made it home ok!

RT - that is an ambitious undertaking on a new truck. Good luck! Maybe you should find a neighbors truck to practice on late one night?

Regards, Roy

Roy....I put my boat in the water this weekend with help of a good freind.  Roared down the lake perfectly with the big black Mercury running very smooth.

Today a good friend and engineering mentor visited and we ran trains for an hour.  He loved the new Lionchief Plus operating system.  He is a big BNSF fan as he lives most to the time in Colorado.

Doug...Glad to see you back. My condolances to your family for the passing of your sister.

Doctor was on vacation so the back to work paperwork has not cleared.  Indifferent

Good evening all,

Rested today.  Put seats back in van after sweeping floor.  Rearranged stuff in shed and pitched some stuff.  Picked up sticks in yard.   Watched some of qualifying.  Dixon on pole.  Foyt team can only improve.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evening guys,

Man it is cold here. never made 60 today and damp to.

DougDG, Glad your okay!!!

Yesterday I purchased a Sno-Way leight weight snow plow for the Ranger. It cost more than the truck but will keep me out of the cold doing the lane next winter. It has remote control to control it and is a drive in mount system. It came off a Ford Sport Track that has the same frame as the Ranger.

Looking at things that plow install is not going to be a cake walk for sure but it can be done. Got to pull all the front end stuff I already had off the front back off. LOL Ugh~! Glad I got all summer. Then I see a puddle of oil under the rear dif and I get to looking and there is a rust hole in the diff cover, WTH?? BUT when I pulled the tag off the back to see what is in it I find it is the big 8.8" ring gear with limited slip and 4:10 gears.
This thing is speced out big for a small truck. I ordered a new replacement gear cover ($14.89) and will need to get some gear lube and friction additive for it.

So I cut some grass and cleaned and painted parts of the plow support that mounts to the truck so it will be done before I try to figure out how to install it. I am going to hook power to the plow on the floor and check operation before I go any farther to make sure it all works. If it don't,,,,Bang Head

Banks - how did the dirt drags go or did they cancel?

No.,finally got a race in. Cloudy all day and it sprinkled a few times. Grandson did well. He is unsure of the bike so we left it home and put him in his same classes as last year. The pounds added over the winter didn't slow him down. Brought home two 1st trophies.

I helped young friend "Look Around" inside his engine last winter. He shaved 0.4 seconds and gained 2MPH on top.

Daughter helped today and we got the half of beef in the freezer. Made 130 hamburgers wrapped in foil and +/- 200 meatballs. Glad that's done for another year.

Never did get to the saw or trees. Maybe this week

Best get to sleep

Prayers for those in need

Good Evening,

Not a lot going on, trying to get Dr. Marks layout wrapped up, A couple of issues popped up as a result of automating some switching activities and non-derailing.  The LED lights are not where they should be.

Was a little disappointed with the Nascar ALL Star race last night, hope next Saturdays race is better.

Weather really turned warm here for a couple of days, now getting cooler again.

Take care, Best Wishes to ALL.

Mornin' boys.  Overcast and 56 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Might get a haircut today (have to stay pretty now).  All this talk of boat launching has me yearning for the yatchet.  Might have to do a quickie trip back to B'more.

dougnotta - Thoughts and Angel to you.

Chief - I used bleach water to fight moss on roof shingles.

Hello all

Another nice day here on the mountain.

Chief - a number of pigeons have discovered the barn. Going to try and use an airsoft rifle to encourage them to leave.

Kev - that sounds like a good use for your Ranger. 4.10 gears are very unusual to find in a truck that new w/ a V6. Must have been a special order. We spec'd out 3.73's for my friends '96 Ranger. Standard was 3.54's as I recall. Hope the plow installation doesn't get too interesting.

Just sent an email to Portlines asking about parts for the 644 AF crane car I have. Once I get that repaired I want to send the set to my brother for his birthday. He has our grandfather's AF set, but it needs new reversing unit fingers. He is just today embarking on a new career. After almost 20 years of working as a electronics/software engineer (and being laid off), he is starting cooking school.

Laugh  I could do that Fife and think it was a good thing!! I have a flip phone to and could care less about anything else called smart. The flip phone's GPS is turned OFF as well!

Bob,

I did test the plow today and nothing worked so I sent the kid I got it from an e-mail and he called me and helped me figure it out. So it all works. Now to do the rest over the summer.

Later, I opened up a separate checking account for medical expense to help with the supplement reimbursements from Mother Caterpillar and to have all medical in one place. Otherwise, not a lot else today.

Have a good night!

Evening all!

Cloudy and cooler today. 81 high only briefly. Showers predicted for much of tomorrow. Cooler temps next 2-3 days and more rain. Nice for the holiday weekend.

Grilled salmon out tonight - first time - it came out great. Wife marinated it for a couple of hours - lime juice, olive oil, and garlic salt. Cooked skin side down as internet recommended for 10 min for each inch of thickness. Did not touch it until it was time to pull it off. Medium hot grill. 400+

Dougnotta - ditto that!

Dennis - glad your trip went well. I also draw a lot on paper and have all my drafting stuff still. A good friend some years back had one of the classic oak drafting tables with the drafting machine mechanism that he would have given me. Alas I had no place to put it.

Rained most of the day. Raining now. 70 and dropping. Rain tomorrow.

Good Evening from overcast 64°F Southern Ohio,

We bred one of our Netherland Dwarf rabbits today in preparation for the County Fair.  We'll put a nest box in one of the New Zealand doe's cage Wednesday and the other will go in Thursday.  Both New Zealand does should be kindling (giving birth) by this time next week and the Netherland Dwarfs in about a month.

New record for the 6 chickens; 8 eggs in one day.  They are now at the break even point from a cost / return standpoint.  And they do a great job eating ticks in the yard! Dinner

We closed on the new house today only 31 days after seeing the house.  It's not my norm as I usually contemplate decisions a little longer than we did on this house but we feel very blessed and comfortable buying the house.  I'll try and get some pictures to post.

Kev – Know anything about Kubota GR2110 lawn mowers?

Roy – the salmon sounds delicious

Bob – What color is your 644?  Doug is a great guy to deal with.

More boxes to pack!

Good night may God bless

Jim

Good morning,

56 here, Cloudy and heading to 64 with more rain Storm this afternoon. UGH!

Jim, I need some of those Chickens, Woke up last night to take a leak and found a tick on me. Darn cat must of left it on the bed for me. We put the tick stuff on him every month so who knows? Huh? Boy it was a small tick but still a tick just the same.

Never saw one of those lawn mowers but Kubotas are good and they price them like it to. Surprise We have had good luck with our 16 year old 48" Husqvarna I use to trim the large areas and do around the house and shed.

Here is the first thing on one I found on line. Lots of good information and point counter point on tractorbynet. From this post I would think you had better try one before you buy one! Wink  Seems a lot of people have issue with them.

Evening all!

The day started with big storms and rained until mid afternoon. Next couple of days are cool and hopefully into the mid-80's for the holiday weekend. Need it warm for good boating weather.

Son joining us for the holiday weekend. Daughter is off for a friends wedding. She is in the bridal party.

Dennis - good you made it back ok!

Phish - quite the mini-farm you got there!

Kev - hate it when I get a tick. End up with a spot that itches for several weeks, takes a month to heal up completely.

Mike C - so hopefully the new work environment is as good as you hoped?

Mornin' boys.  Overcast and 57 along the Patterson Creek cut-off.  Will be on train by 10:45a.  CSX had a derailment last night on Canal Pkwy, so may have to leave a few minutes early for Ridgeley.

Wifey and I day-tripped back to Baltimore yesterday to see the grandson "graduate" from pre-school.  I know, I know...but seeing him waving wildly at me from stage made it worth the drive.  I did take the time to go down and check on yatchet.  Batteries still had juice, which was a first for wintering on the hard.  Leaves had clogged the cockpit drain, and there was 5 inches of red water on the deck.  Was able to do a quick 1-2 clean-up, on that.  I think a quick application of anti-foul paint is all I need to splash this year.  Still need someone to shimmy up the mast ($) and fix the navlight and wind-bird (heron strike).  Also need to repair some port window dogs.

V8Vega - I absolutely loathe the airport experience.

Put it in a gallon zip-lock bag with kittie litter, works better than rice. Of course this only works if it wasn't powered on or after you bathed it.

Senior moment; take 2.  After exitting AT&T store with new replacement flip-phone (and yes, I could hear the staff brake into chuckles as I crossed the threshhold), I walked out of the mall and didn't see my Dodge (and yes, I chuckled as I walked back in)...

Hello all

Back in the Ol' Pueblo. Nice 101 deg today.

Reefers got moved today. Brought Bill down to see the first one get placed w/ the big crane and then we took off to the Broadway yard to work on the '52 Twin Coach FL. We got the torque converter system buttoned up w/ another filter unit, added 12 qts, and cranked the engine over w/ the starter. So far, no leaks. Tomorrow we will put some gas to the carb and fill the cooling system w/ water and start her up. If she builds air and goes into gear, we drive.

Intern Gabe and I worked on the 30' Twin Coach that has the bulldozer modified front end. Steering still binding w/ the spare column. Grease the tie rod ends (huge buggers these are) w/ not much change. Checked the steering box and while it didn't get filled w/ sand in it's San Pedro River experience (this bus had a hard post-revenue life before it came to us) is was low on fluid. Going to fill it up tomorrow and see if that helps and then we can flat tow it.

Picked up the new tires and rims for the van and will install them tomorrow. Bill and I will also check out the oil leak he found on the 4-dr.

JimS - the 644 is black on a grey flat. Haven't heard anything back from Doug yet.

Took a look at a Corvair powered sand rail a couple of guys in the club got a hold of recently w/ a load of parts. Going to start it w/ Ron this weekend. Looks very interesting.
