Cloudy and 57 today.

Lionel sets are priced for the entry level market. Although MTH set's have a DCS board, why pay for something they may never use. Legacy is out there for those that want it. As RT stated, LC+ will run in conventional mode.

Don from what I understand only the Lionchief + will work in conventional and they don't come in sets ( go figure ) althou they originally stated the others would they don't.

Morning all no plans for today. Continue cleaning the garage of un-necessary boxes and packing matterial. ( think I have enough in there to ship all my trains ) ( not happening before any of you suggest )

48 out there this am going up to 75 today so need to get out and do my walk in about a hour or so. before it gets to warm.

Think I'm going to work on some trains today some from what i can see that I got in could use a re-wiring job. Thats where I do 1 wire at a time lol. ( so far 2 whistles and I think 3 engines.) Not muchlese going on today talk to you all later Oh yeah wife wants to goto Wally-World.

Evening All !

Chief that is really terrible about the family and fire.  Prayers for the family and hope they have extended family available to help and support!

I spent the ENTIRE day servicing and cleaning engines, AND NONE OF THEM WERE MINE!  I don't know if I've mentioned this, but going to be involved in a major event coming up next week.  A promoter is putting on a "WinterFest" at the Orange County Fairgrounds, and Lloyd has been asked to put together an interactive train display for children.  The specifics are...

  • From Dec 17 to Jan 4
  • Will be in same hall as Santa Claus
  • Will consist of 4 10x15 foot layouts, each having 3 individual tracks
  • All 12 trains will be in continuous operation, and controlled by the kids!!
  • Hours are extensive 10 am till 10/11 pm depending on the day

I've been asked to assist with the set-up, maintenance and operation during the event.  Don't know specific hours or days yet, but I think its going to be significant.  The layouts will be comprises of 6 G-Scale, 3 O-Scale, & 3 HO.  So today was making sure all the engines were ready to go.

The media is suppose to be there Wednesday morning for a special report on the event so may get some TV time

Since all the trains are going to be run by the Kids, they are all going to be conventional.  So LLoyd picked up a Polar Express a couple days ago.  He ended up getting the Lion Chief version.  He was assured that the train would run in conventional mode, but of course it does NOT.  (You can power it with a transformer, but the train will only respond via the Remote Control.)  So he was not very happy, obviously the remote would last very long without walking away or getting broke.  Then there is the battery issue for the remote.  I offered to trade him with the PE engine I have which is early and IS conventional.  To my surprise he took me up on it.

I'm REALLY surprised that Lionel didn't  make the engine for compatible for conventional operation, it was disappointing to me that there was not a migration path to Legacy compatibility.  But, this is really extreme.  Even MTH with their entry level RTR system not only is PS3 based, but has conventional capability as well.  SoapBox  (Hopefully this post won't be deleted.)

Oh, one other thing, came home tonight, and there is a 10' Snowman in the front yard, compliments of Chris.  Surprise

Take Care all and be SAFE

About 60 and partly cloudy today.  Rain is a'comin tomorrow and Sunday.

Got my new tires for the Cobalt picked up at lunch time and put back on the car tonight.  Ready for winter now - full tread depth on the drive wheels.  The new tires will probably act as a snow preventative now - not that this is a bad thing.

Packed up the first load of Polar Express layout in the minivan tonight too.  Ready to start setting it up at the museum tomorrow morning.

Chief - That is really tough news any time in the year.  Much worse at this time of year.

Kev - send me a personal message with your e-mail address.  I'll send you some sketches and pictures that might help with your B-unit conversion.  218 - that is a power truck with 2 magnetic axles?

You might consider keeping the truck with the pick up rollers under the B-unit wired together with the pick up rollers in the A-unit.  This eliminates power drops across switches and crossovers.  This set up could get interesting going across blocks, depending on how you have them wired, though.

All for now.

Good evening all,

Sorry to hear that news, Chief, especially at this time of year.   Eye checkup went well.  Got Christmas cards done today.  Rested some today.   May go to TCA meet in Cincinnati tomorrow.  Did some errands at home for the wife today.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Jim, I love the idea of the Truck Tree. We had a Trek Tree for years with all the Hallmark Star Trek ornaments but it went with my daughter when she moved out. Yes

Good morning all,

Got a good rain shower last night.  Almost 1/2 inch in an hour. My lawn says thank you.  Maybe more today.

Our live in son has flown the coup again this morning.  Is flying up to Oregon to visit a friend.  He'll be back on Monday.

Guy coming to look at my recliner today for possible fix.

Perpetual adoration chapel this morning for one hour.  Wife will go with me.  She missed it last week

No outdoor lights this year.  Just too many things on my plate.  Time to make my candy run to See's Candy this year for Christmas chocolates.  Need it like a hole in the head but people like it for gifts.

later,

Ray

Morning all from Southern Ohio,

Sunny and going to get into the 60's today and I'm off work!

I got up after a 2 hour nap yesterday and had a funeral to do.  Then oldest girl had a swim meet 2 1/2 hours away.  By the time I went to bed I did not have any trouble transitioning from day sleep to night sleep.

I renewed both driver's licence and car tags this morning after dropping the kids off, and after another cup of coffee some more decorating.  The goal for today is the "Truck Tree"; a little 4 footer with all 20 of the Halmark Truck series ornaments.  My youngest daughter started getting them for me when the series started in 1995 with a 1956 Ford F 100 and has made it a tradition between us.

Dennis-Great find on a matching hood, sure beats needing to paint it, even if you may need to buff it out.  The fade often matches better than new paint.

RT-A table, some track, and some space, why you're ready to go!

Adjdevil2-Good to see othrs from the past returning to the Pot too!

Brent-Maybe time for a check up to find a cause of the dragon

Fife-In looking at Christmas morning pictures from when I was young, the trees had fewer lights and ornaments, and the tree was about all that was decorated.  It was also easier to put away.  Maybe next year we'll have a retro Christmas with fewer decorations  .   .   .   . Nope, don't see that happening.

Off to trim the Truck Tree!

May God bless

Jim

Mornin' All.

Got my walk in this morning, didn't think I would based on weather guessers. They were wrong on the rain but the surf is big and getting bigger, 10 to 12 feet with some sets at 15ft during high tide, uh-oh.

Anybody jumping on the Star Wars auction on Sothebys, better have extremely deep pockets. Surprise

No museum today, cardiologist instead.

Time to find something for breakfast, gotta be lite don't want to break the scales.

Mornin' boys.  Partly cloudy but 60's in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Today is the day we bring the North Pole layout from the garage to the living room.  Grandson inspected the layout yesterday, and was impressed...until he saw that Fifepops burried the LW's deep inside the big rock candy mountain.  Then he exitted the "hanger" a bit dejected.  After layout in place, the tree will be erected in all it's pre-strung lights glory.  Trying to work smarter not harder in my later years.  I know it's nostalgic, but don't know how the old folks did everything on Christmas Eve.

88 - Put on some James Brown.  Heyyyy!!!

Mornin' Fellas

I seem to have caught that ancient Chinese syndrom again, got me a serious case of 'dragon @$$', just can't seem to get motivated to do anything. Sad Need to figure it out and quick because TheQ's Company's Christmas gathering it tonight and I want to be chipper for it, always have a great time. Will be hard to beat last year as it was at the Air & Space Museum and I got to sit next to Ms Pershing.

Called the LTS yesterday the ZW is ready, wanted to get it last night and pulled up just as he turned off the lights. So try to get down today at lunch. Got all the wires cut and the terminals crimped on so now it is just a matter of running the wires, then setting up the tree, and making the connections and we'll get good to go. Hopefully that will happen tomorrow.

Fife - hope to get the button in the mail today.

8N,  I got a 218 ALCO frame and motor coming so I can do a one motor B-unit kind of like your two motor B-unit. I may need some help on the way to wire it. I need the extra power to be able to pull some cars with the A-B-B-A set when the B-B-A are all not powered.

60 and sunny today.  Unusually nice for Dec. 10 in this neighborhood.

Feeling a bunch better now, too. Some extra sleep and a warmer than usual house seemed to helped that.

The pair of new tires came in for my Cobalt yesterday.  With my wife out of town, it is difficult getting a vehicle to a shop and getting myself to work.  Ended up pulling the wheels off of the car and taking them into the tire store in my truck at lunch today.

Of course, it is dark by the time I get out of work and my old ugly orange '72 Chevy truck decides not to light the headlights.  Finally got the brights on, so I think the problem is in the high beam switch.

Going to pack the Polar Express layout up tomorrow evening so I can set it up at the KATY depot Saturday.  I'll run it next week Saturday, too.

All for now.

Afternoon All,

Weather guessers saying a nasty storm is coming in this afternoon, sure don't look like it s far.

Rich, Eat/Sleep/Work, it don't change much when you retire. The only redeeming thing is that you are doing it for personal satisfaction in seeing others either benefiting or just getting enjoyment out of your efforts. That's what keeps me and the BetterHalf running like crazy at times.

Sure wouldn't want to be riding some of the Boston trains: Train leaves station without operator, passes 4 stations.

Story was in the online news.

Hey, Guys, long time.....

Working sucks, long hours and short sleep time make for an irritible guy...

The Princess' Reliant broke a radiator on Halloween and its taken this long to get it fixed.  A new head and camshaft later (not to mention $1700) and its running again.  And very well per the Princess.  She and her BF have moved into an apartment in Jax, FL as her mother is getting married on Saturday, and the commute from where her mother is to work is an hour each way, hence the apartment.

Fire meeting night tonight with elections so it will be a long night.

Road Runner is finally road worthy and on nice days is being driven.  Working out some of the bugs, but it steers nice and straight and runs nicely.  I'm fine tuning it to run better....

The Fire Dept. layout was a success and finally dismantled it last week.  Its a lout of work for a 4 hour showing, but the kiddo's loved it.

Other than work eat and sleep, that's been the life.

Morning all. Not much planned for this morning. Been thinking maybe clearing off the tables I have in the garage and make a temp. layout in there   :) I have plenty of O-27 track and switches and 90 crossovers to do so. could be fun. and if I get rid of some of the boxes in there if needed I do have a electric heater I could hook up there just loose all the heat anytime open the garage door as there isn't a regular door in and out ( yet ) That will be coming as have plans for that building come the spring.

Hope all having a good day. Need to get dressed and take my walk. Get my exercise for the day. Wife does want to walk to the Dollar General later that's about a mile round trip so will reduce my walk some this morning trying to do about 2 miles a day, Just walking. Not into jogging or running.

Well talk to you all later.

Good evening all,

Busy but good day at work.  Watched Arrow tonight.  Really really mad at the story lines.  If they ever eliminate the one character that makes the show worth watching, I am done with it.   Was supposed to practice with the high school kids tonight.  I showed up and the gym was dark.   I really was too tired and did not feel like going so I did not feel too bad, but at least I made the effort......  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Evenin' All.

Spent the day packing up the remnants of the goodies from the BetterHalf's group fundraiser so it can go back to their storage unit. I have my garage back ! Now I can start on the Christmas layout for our Christmas Eve display.

Last week's unplanned visit to my primary care doc and her med changes didn't help much, cardiologist called for me to come in to see him this Friday. We'll see what his thoughts are.

Glad to hear that RT is doing well, even if he ain't behavin'.

Buckeye , Thanks for the new photo, the old one in the garage is looking real bad and lost some it's ability to scare away mice. Laugh

Getting tired, time to sign off.

Prayers for all in need.

Night all.
