Good morning from Buckeyeland, where life is good after this last weekend's victory.

I was out east during Thanksgiving and attended the Edison, NJ train show.  Great show with many of the big names displaying.

Finally bought the materials to build a layout. Hoping I don't run into any snafus like I usually do. Just happy that I'll finally be off the floor.

Morning all from wet and cool (mid 40's) Southern Ohio

I forgot a new pot is on so I'll paste this over!

I'm off till Friday and I'll be on dayshift over the weekend.

Drove the kids to school and going to start decorating.

Fife - I love the Marx Freight station!  The graphics are sooo cool and worth the footprint it takes on a layout.  I've been trying for one for some time and I was bidding on one the other day that had the ramp and all the accesories but it went for over $200; well above my limit.

Jim - I would sure like to help on your projects!  You've got some really nice steamers.  The 312 & 322 are some of my favorites.  You've got to love the SIT.  It is so neat to hear and see the smoke coming from the loco sitting still.  Is yours the bellows or piston drive SIT?  Looked but never scored on the 325K.

I'm going to try and figure how to post pics using the MAC we now have, and share some of the old pics from years ago.

May God bless

Jim

Aloha. Sunny and warm!

tinplate, the snafus are part of the fun! Good luck.
Fife and Sturg, I am a Marxist! I have to look out for more 74 semaphores. I have the Oak Park and Girard stations that are very nice-looking.

Jim,

The 322 has got the original (and hardened) bellows.  I had a 312 SIT once upon a time that had the cylinder conversion.

The 312s that I'm working on are '48 production that came to me as a pair.  I bought a large amount of Flyer while on vacation in July.  I couldn't pass up two nice albeit needing some help 312s for $85.

I bought a lot of Flyer while you were away.  I am getting back to it after what I went through.  Need something positive to take my mind off of everything.

The bellows were prone to cracking but they can be repaired. I'll look for the how to do it. Right off hand I'm thinking it was a kit from Portlines.

The AF has an appeal in Being somewhat smaller it can take up less space but still big enough to be real toys

Good morning all,

Got a bill yesterday from Hertz rental car company for a one day rental back in July.  It was supposedly paid for by Honda when my car was in for service.  Hertz says they were never paid by Honda so they have to bill me.  To add insult do injury, I got out my paid bill from Honda and see where they charged me for the "free" car rental so if I pay Honda now, I will be paying double.  Got call in now for Honda but no answer yet.  When these things go South, they seem to keep on going.

Son hauled out our artificial Christmas tree today and I will decorate it if/when the spirit moves me or when I find time.  Doubt if I will put up outdoor lights this year.

Visiting nurse came to see my wife today and was alarmed to find a large bruise from the surgery site and going down her leg below the knee.  Called doctor and he says it's common for these types of surgeries to bruise even days later like hers.  We will see him today.  I was concerned that it might be a blood clot but they say no because lack of other symtoms.  Yogi was right! "It ain't over til it's over".

Dodgers have a new manager announced today on TV.  USC has a new permanent coach who had been the interim coach.  Vin Scully says next year will definitely be his last with the Dodgers.  Maybe the Dodger organization will get their act together and settle the tV problem by next season so all of us can see Vin's last season.  Now only about 40% of fans can get the games on TV thanks to greed/bad public relations, bad mangement ad infinitim.  P.S. Kobe Bryant announced his retirement but will play out the season.  Don't understand that one.  His terrible current play is hurting the team.

Afternoon All !

Nice and cool out (39*) when I go for my morning walks of late, really feels good. Now if I can just get rid of this shortness of breath stuff.

SJ, Did RT's betterhalf say what the issue was, battery or lead failure ? Mine is supposed to be good for at least seven years. We shall see. Hopefully my bedside monitor will tell the cardiac unit that it is in need of work before it creates issues for me.

Talked to our IT guru and the webcams will be accessible thru our website on Friday and Saturday til 9PM pacific time. Pop in and take a look-see.

Now the big decision for Saturday : long trains of scale stuff OR lots of Christmas cars with all the toy like amenities I can find. Whistling

Jim, The request that I received was for Sugar Cookies, one of my favorites. These things come out so light and airy that they just melt in your mouth. Dinner

Well time to get back to work.

Later all.

P.S._Jim, if you want the recipe I'll e-mail it to you.

Dougdg the imformation I got was that it was a lead issue. He said a warning signal went off in his chest and it was the defib. He is getting antsy to get out of the hospital but they postponed his surgery a day due to schedule problems.

Jim,

The bellows haven't cracked, they're just stiff to the point that the motor strains.

Oh, Tom Barker brought out another book, which is excellent.

Hey,

Hi Guys, Just got in, Have not even looked back at the posts, so I will tomorrow. Hope you all good to go.We had a great time in the north woods but my VWF kind of hurt me being outside to long. But I made it. Saw a cool black bear and three Bucks were taken, the rule is nothing under 6 points. It worked this year.

Good evening all,

Good day at work, better than expected.   Went for my longest walk in a while.   Need to get legs back into shape (a phrase I never thought I would use...)   Watched Flash and Izombie tonight.   Wife and I got the ornaments on the tree tonight as well.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Soggy and 50 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Wifey and I are gonna hang out today, and possibly go see 007.  Took grandson to Klein's yesterday, and he fell asleep so I had to carry him around the store.  Kid is dead weight when he snoozes.  My shoulder is sore.  Did pick up North Pole water tower for our layout, and the Beth Steel water tower for the nephew.

redfire - Very nice of you, but it can wait.  Actually see them frequently at YORK.  Thanks anyhow.

Phish - Actually added a wood plank floor to my freight station to knock out the shiney big brick litho.  I will use it to separate my Dept 56 wagons from the trains.  Maybe post some pics on SPF once I get organized.

Angel for rt, dbaker's recovery, 88's princess, Buckeye's innerds, and anyone else in need.

Mornin' Fellas

Been off and on for the past few weeks. I got the offer from the company about the job with the VA, but turned it down due to the significant pay cut, and the fact that they only pay for hours worked (they don't have enough work on that contract for 8 hours per day, 5 days per week) and I would pay all the taxes. Plus I got an extention on my contract with the current company - no changes to pay or benefits. So I'm good for now, and also have a good chance to get hired FT with new company - If I don't find something better between now and the end of March.

Christina is doing phenominal with her recovery! She and Matthew are very excited about the Clauser's (as my Dad calls him) pending visit. I put the living room tree together last night and that got many 'OOOhhhs' and 'AAAhhhs'. Thumbs Up Sat down with them and watched Charlie Brown Christmas and Polar Express last night. Both were hits. [tuo]Thumbs Up

May have to burn my last 2 weeks of vacation before the end of the year. If that is the case I will finally have time to build the new under-the-tree garden for the Christmas Zephyr and NPC GP-35 freight trains. Will also finally have time to get into the trainroom and finish the wiring... will be nice to get the trains running before Christmas this year.

Angel for RT, Buckeye's belly, dbaker, and anyone else in need.

What happened to RT and dbaker???????

Good morning from a now snow covered North Bluff. Looks like it won't last long as they are calling for 40s and 50s the next week.
Thought I was going to pick up the grand-son for the day but the daughter just called me off. So bills and not much else for today.
Just got caught up on all of the posts. WOW! A lot to digest for only 5 days gone.
As for Christmas lights,,,,,,,,,I don’t miss that job one bit. When we lived in Plainfield and the Kids were growing up it was a every year task. Out here ½ mile off the road we don’t do anything but the tree inside. That is on my to do list. I just set it up and Sandra and the grand-daughter put all the stuff on it.

JimmyT sorry to hear about that but better you find out now than when it is too late.
Sturgen-Phish Wow only 75K in 12 years. The guy I went up north with has 326K on his 07 Dodge 2500 Diesel already.
Ray, good to know your wife is mending well from the operation.
Brent, that is great about Christina!!!!  Yes
Chief, the guys up north got three Bucks, a 7,9, and 10 point and one doe. Best they have done in years.
Doug, everything is under water here and now snow on top. Sandra said it rained and rained. Mark and I drove through rain for the first 2 hours yesterday coming home from up north and as we got closer to home everything was wet..
Prayers for RT. Is Don over the shingles yet? I thought he had said they were almost gone.
Anyway. Have a good day. Got to run!

Good Morning Guys!

I'm doing well!  The bout with the Shingles is pretty much over, IMO.  Finished all the meds, no new blisters, have a few spots hanging on, but not bad.  Slight headache, and a random feeling similiar to the feeling of a hat pin sticking you on the scalp.  Had a visit with the VA regarding the eyes and ensuring no impact from the shingles, and that went well. But, they identified a concern regarding pressure on the Optical Nerve is too high.  So more tests next week.

THEN, Kay and I thought it would be a good idea to take her parents to Knotts Berry Farm for an outing to view the decorations and lights.  And its free for Veterans and a guest.  Sounded good, we went and had a nice time.  Then when we were leaving I went to get the car, and my FIL went to the restroom.  On the way out he fell and did a header.  Ended up having to take him to ER due to chest pains.  After CT scans of head and chest, he only had minor bruising, but Para Medics and ambulance to hospital, and 4 hours at ER.  Thankfully, everything seems OK.  Think we will stay away from Knotts, though.  (Thank you for all the concern and thoughts!)

Today Kay and I are going to go to Disneyland, first time in over 20 years.

Regarding trains, Lloyd (the builder I do work for).  Landed a gig for the Winter Fest event at Orange County Fairgrounds.  He is renting 3 layouts for the public to run and a LOT of exposure for him.  So he asked if I would work the event with him, maintaining engines, and track.  Starts on 12/16 through 1/6.  Should be interesting.

Will probably go to a TTOS train meet on Sunday, its been awhile since I've been there.

Prayers for RT !!!! And, GLAD that Christina is doing so well!! That is a blessing, GOOD to hear Ray and Helen are doing good also!!

Take care all and hope everyone has a good time with all the pre-holiday activities and events.

Don, glad to hear everything was OK after Knotts.  Stay away from there!  Place is a jinx for you.

Health Care company overseeing wife's surgery and follow up sent a social worker over here today to see if they could provide any help to me.  It was a waste of time since I earn to much to qualify for anything and not enough to afford other things.  I did not ask them to come in the first place.  Don't know why they sent a social worker.  I know more about what's available almost than they do.

Don, good report on shingles.  Keep it up!  Might see you at TTOS.

Good evening all,

It was a good day, busy day at work.   I got to play some indoor soccer.  I cannot move fast so I played goalie.   It was good to be with the kids again.   I left when I felt the legs tighten up again.   I came home, iced the legs and watched Arrow.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

We put 1800 miles on the minivan between 11-25 and 11-29 with a trip to Michigan.  Visited mom and mom-in-law who are both in healt care facilities now.  My wife and I ended up at an Irish pub on Thanksgiving.  They had an excelent buffet - real turkey, roast beef, ham, shepards pie, mashed potatos, dressing, beans, etc, etc.  Kind of missed the traditional large family gathering.

My wife stayed in Michigan with her mom, so I'm batching it until Christmas.

Getting caught up at work and am trying to get caught up on sleep.

I went to the local high school to talk with the shop teacher about voluntering to help with a robot competition.  It is a world wide program where the high school kids design, and build a robot to compete against other teams in a game like task.  Past games have been basketball like games, frisbe target shooting, or package stacking.

Anybody notice the transformer hookup instructions in the dissapearing train layout article?  Looks like the layout is divided into several blocks with fiber pins and each segment is connected to a different output on the ZW.

All for now.

Evening all from cool Southern Ohio.  Spose to get to 32 tonight.  It warmed up to the mid 60's for a bit today.  I got some of the outside lights up.  The ladder work is done.  Man that kills my knees, can't stand on the ladder like I used to.

Doug - I'd like the reciepe send it to sturgphish@gmail.com

RT- I'll be praying for you your doctors and nurses tomorrow

Jim - are you talking about Baker's 3rd edition of the repair manual?

Roy - Hope you get to dry out some

Fife - I bet the floor looks neat!  Did you use popsicle sticks or something like that?

KRM- I bought the truck used 3 years ago; previous owner only put 56000 on it.  It  is still a cream puff and tows like a beast.  If I figure how to post pics I'll post some of the truck.  I'm going to change the fuel injectors in the next week or two.  That will be my Christmas present.  By the time I'm done I'll have about $2500 in the job in parts.

Well goodnight and may God bless

Jim

Mornin' boys.  Blustery & 42 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Boy is here, but Wifey home too, so she can run interference for me.  Saw new 007 movie yesterday.  Lots of action, and the Mexico sequence was awesome, but story got a little stale, imho.  Not sure if Craig is returning, and Lord Valdemoort cast as M just doesn't fit.

Phish - I've had this box of stripwood sitting around for a couple of decades, so that's what I used.  Turned out to be the perfect covering.  I even studied old photos of B&O freight stations to get the right plank directions.  I was able to get the MARX freight terminal from a local train store for $20.  Guy was tired of looking at it, I guess.

Aloha. Grey and cold enough for the 2 inches or so of snow to still hang around. Dishwasher guy is here - nothing looks wrong mechanically but I can never tell about all the circuit boards they have now. Only 4 years old. Hope it can come back to life. Then I have a host of errands including a friendly visit with the township assessor to argue his tax assessment of the house. Nothing new train-wise.

Good luck with that Doug. As long as it is at or below market value it is a hard fight.  Angry

Cloudy and 33 heading to 40 and that is it.

Farm and Fleet later to get cat food, softener salt, suet and bird seed on Sandra's debit card.  Laugh

Jim, Those diesels are great pullers. We haulled a 16' car hauler back with a CJ8 on it when we came home on Tuesday and it was like there was nothing behind that 2500 Dodge diesel. My gas Silverado does good but you sure know there is something back there.
