Morning all. I'm a random reader.... depending on time .. almost 100 here in Corvallis Oregon , yesterday.. so the wife and I took our 6yr old grandson to a small river beach near here.... water was "almost" too cool, but didn't stop us from playing around in it for a while. Biggest hit of the day was my new( to me) Lionel 282 gantry crane with magnet. He came a little early, and it wasn't quite wired in... no patience has he. But soon it was up and running. It took him a little while to coordinate the levers for up and down and rotating, but soon he was an expert. Of course, being 6, he wasn't satisfied with picking up the light things I had set up. Wanted bigger and heavier things. I told him I'd see how to strengthen the magnet.... his suggestion was to just get bigger connection wires and turn the transformer up to full power.... But he was so excited to show his expertise to his dad when it was time to go home. A great addition to the operating things that keep the 6 year old mind engaged. Today to beat the heat... the wife and I will escape to the coast.... we spent last week painting several rooms, so have earned some down time. A good day to you all. Only guys and gals like us are always in "train-ing"

Some thunderboomers are blowing through tonight. Heavy enough rain that the satelite TV signal is spotty. Has not rained for a while here, so I am glad to see the rain.
V8 - I'll be glad to send some creeping charlie your way to re-populate your lawn. I've been fighting it for years and have never been able to kill it. I'm beginning to consider nukeing the whole lawn and starting over.
The Mo. State Fair is in session. We have not been yet. The Budwiser clydsdale beer wagon hitch in here this year. The night before the fair opened, they made a run down one of the local city streets making case size home deliveries - nope, was not my street.
Work is gone weird. We have some special activities going on that has everybody on edge and really busy. This too will pass.
Got the 1/2 bath framed. Going to start on electricals and plumbing soon.
All for now.
Good evening all,
Work was horrible today, but tonight made up for it as "my" soccer girls stomped all over the opposition for a 5-1 win that should not have been that close. The weather was good and the stands were packed and the cow bell rang loud and long! Finally got my soccer league schedule for me. Two games in August, two in September, and two in October. Hmmm. Better than nothing. Leg is better, but still tender. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good morning all,
V8, sorry you had trouble passing smog test. I would not look forward to riding a bus either. I'm getting too old for that. I rode Greyhound a few times while deadheading on the railroad along with drunks and crying kids. Not a pleasant experience. Had to go through immigration checks also down near the border.
Surveyed my lawn this morning and was disheartened at the condition of it. It is slowly dying in spite of watering twice a week. I have some ground cover plants with pretty yellow flowers along the curb. They are all dying with big loads of dead plant material throughout. When they go, I think I will just put in wood chips or bark there. Got information from the city yesterday about rebates for planting drought resistant yards. Will check it out and see if it's worth it. Guy next door has quit watering lawn completely and just letting it die. I think he is going to put in drought tolerant plants.
We planted some of that desert stuff at a memorial for a fallen employee along the right of way down near the Salton Sea. Nursery said the stuff would survive in the Sahara but it did not survive where we put it. Lasted for a few months but is all gone now.
Gold Line light rail line having station dedications recently. They already did Duarte, next is Arcadia this week end and Azusa near us will be soon.

That's great, Kev. Here's my brief video of 1630.

Mor-Doug . Mornin' boys. Clouding up and 85 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Wifey asked what I'm going to do now that Fifepops camp is over. Windows, that's what I'm doing. Gonna meet with our realtor gal tomorrow.
KRM - Always best to do Day out with Thomas on a weekday. Weekends too insane. But, it does show you that trains are alive and well with the younglings.

Doug, it was a great time and that place is so neat. The big iron is everywhere, I loved the 4-8-4 Northerns and the articulated steam engines best. The ride was at 3:00PM and I think that helped a lot. Many people were leaving when we got there at 1:30 and by the time we left at 5:00 the place was just about cleared out. They had a lot of places closed off, I am sure for crowd control reasons. So I will be going again when I can walk the whole place without the madness. They pulled Thomas with a SP GP9 and Percy with the 1918 Baldwin Locomotive Works Frisco 2-10-0 steamer #1630 It took an hour and a half from our place to there.
I put some pictures on SPF yesterday.
Here is a link someone took to the 1630 running at IRM

Morning all. Cloudy and cooler. Had a little mist earlir. They says we may have needed rain.
MIL drama. She would not go to her eye Dr's apt yesterday. I was suppose to drive her today. Calling and trying to delay. Someone has to put their foot down there. Not my place. May go blind in that eye if not attened too.
Mike, if you stay away from that Un-American sport, your leg would be fine.

Hope all have a great day.

Aloha. Dodged summer storms yesterday and this morning. We can use the rain. I got my application to fill out for FifeCamp 2016. Wow, there are sure a lot of questions and all the various fees! Anyway, I just know it will be worth it! Did you all see the announcement of the opening of Thomas-The-Tank-Engine-Land?
Dennis, we have the same sort of emissions testing here and special gasoline for high smog areas that means it is extra expensive.
MikeC, thanks anyway! Hope that contractor finishes up soon.
Good morning,
Hmm, I wonder what happened to the text I had in my last post???? Oh well someday I may figure out these computers. Any way it was about the nutty drive I had for the dealer yesterday. Some of the cars they take to auction can be a trip. You just got to make it fun or you would not do it. Almost like you are in a cartoon. Woke up to a wet North Bluff. Got a much-needed rain and it was a nice steady one producing 1.75” May need to drive again today. Hope it goes better that the drive yesterday.
Been fun,

Sorry I did not post Sunday, but I literally did nothing that day except go to Mass and rest my leg. Today was just an odd day. Work went ok...... but nothing to write home about. High school boys got pounded tonight 12-0. That is not an American football score. This is the first year of a rebuilding decade. Doug M, I can not answer your answer as we are not replacing the existing windows. I hope everyone has a good day.
Evenin' boys. A very summer-like 91 in the Mid-Atlantic region. Wellll, Fifepops camp is over. We spent the time just chillaxing by the inflatable kiddie pool in the backyard. The boy wanted to dine on cheese pizza at the corner greasy spoon. Then we went in and napped in front of the AC. We did a lot, me and him. Didn't weigh him down with ABC puzzles, self-esteem building, or even string theory.
But guess whose grandson knows when to chime in with "SALT! SALT! SALT!"?
Yes, I'm accespting applications for next June...
Stayed home yesterday and just watched the Mass on TV. That's pretty lame but it's better than nothing. It was too hot for us and I was told the A/C was bad order at church.
My youngest adult son drove a race car at a local track yesterday. He got a ticket to do it from his girl friend last birthday. It was a stock car and he got pictures of himself with all the stuff on that they wear. The on board camera was not working so they gave him another free pass to do it again. He said he will wait until November. It was like an oven in the car he said but he was too busy to think about it.
We have another caregiver and patient meetings coming up again tomorrow. My wife has been looking forward to those outings. The patients play games and do fun things to occupy the time while the care givers are in a separate meeting.
Turned down invitation to eat out two days in a row from our friend from church. It was so hot I did not feel like going out.
Touched bases with another friend who attended the memorial service the other day but one that I did not see. He said there were some people that I would know near the front of the hall but I was in the back. There were several that I would have liked to see. Sorry I missed them.
Suppose to be a little cooler today. I'll take it!
ChiefEagles I can't wait to hear what you say when you find out he's only a mile away from you. But of course in Rosyville that's all the way across town. sir james I RT is moving. He does not have internet at the new house yet. Wonder if I could pay someone to keep it that way? Morning. Hot and humid. Need rain. Maybe in the next few days they say. Busy Town week for me. Hope all have a good one.

Aloha from what looks like to be a beautiful day in downtown Chicago. I spent the weekend cleaning and sealing our old wooden deck. I know I did some other things but I can't remember them. I had all sorts of adventures with this project that would've made a funny silent short movie - like blowing the nozzle off the power-washer, snapping the pole I used for the roller and falling over the furniture and plants as I cleared everything off. But it got done. Thought of Chuck whilst watching NASCAR on Sat and Sun. Mike C, I have a stupid question: when your contractor replaced the windows, did they also replace the outside frames?
Evening all. Been busy. Went to Sunday School [been a long time]. Then down east to Eagles family Reunion at Eagles Baptist Church [YES!!].
Anyone heard from RT? That carpetbagger must be up to something. Too quite.
Have a great week ahead.
Heat is brutal here especially for older people. We stayed in house with A/C all day yesterday and only went to the store after dark. Today will probably be around 104. My oldest son went to 5:00PM mass last night and gave us a heads up for today. He said the A/C is broken down at the church. Thought we would try to make the 10:00AM Mass at another church but don't know if it's a good idea with an 87 year old wife with dementia. Might just stay home today which is very unusual for us. We haven't missed as long as I can remember except for sickness.
Saw my first test train running on the new light rail line near us which is due to be completed next month.
later,
Hot is the word for the North Bluff today.
Got to get something made for brunch then it is off to Union IL to the IL. Railroad Museum to spend a day with Thomas and the grand-kids.
Should be interesting Doug.
Warm weather today. I had a real a-------- today as one of the coaches. His team was up 7-0 and he was complaining the the losing team was tripping and pushing his players. Hmmm, if the losing team was playing that dirty, how was his team ahead????? My Achilles tendon was acting up as well so I could forget that game. Rested most of the day. Brent, hang in there. I hope everyone has a good day.
Afternoon all.
Way too much going on in my world so no time to post.
Brent - for the job search and Christina.
Youngest son is moving into his own apartment this weekend - we will have the house to ourselves (I think)
Waiting on the NASCAR race (missing Blueberry)...
Have a great day all!
Regards, Roy
V8, I went through one of those DUI checks a few years ago. Officer asked me how long it had been since my last drink. I told him 44 years. He said OK but thought I was being a smart guy. However, I was telling the truth.
Hudson John prayers for your mom. Thanks for the ones for us.
Memorial service yesterday was well attended. Must have been several hundred people there. Parking was tough and the heat was bad. Standing room only. I had to stand for first 45 minutes. Lots of speakers. I was worn out by then. Did not stay for the reception since I was not feeling too healthy. Anyway, he got a great send off. Had not seen him in several years and didn't realize he had so many friends. They didn't really need me but I'm glad I went.
Our live in son is flying the coup a lot these days. Spends most of his spare time with girl friend. We are alone most of the time.
Wow Brent. Gone a few days and you give me heart ache. Prayers for Christina [Remember when you all brought her home. You were emailing me.]. I feel she will "out grow it". As for you and a job. You will bounce back on your feet.
Been real busy for the last few. Night and day.
Crops are good here. Thanks to the Lord.
Have a great weekend.
Good day at work. Got settled in with new surroundings and unpacked all the items that had been boxed. Mowed yard tonight. Siding is done on south side of house and addition. Only west and north side of addition remain. Everything looking good. I hope everyone has a good day.
