Good afternoon,

Wife made it to work today but it is up in the air tomorrow with maybe 6" of light cold stuff heading this way. Someone wake up Chuck and tell him the snow cannon is 180 degrees off the target.

Stacked fire wood and went into the dealer and picked up my check. Truck said 4 degrees. Will warm some for the snow tonight then plung again for a few more days. Look out you guys out east.

Metra did not seem to get it right because I see the UP trains were late due to the cold this morning again. Not sure if Doug rides the UP or the BNSF metra train?

Oh well it is January, things will be better in four months. Hmm

Hello there,

Quick drop in from back crackers office.

Fife...if that coil is out in the open it should be a simple rewind. Maybe you should put something in series with the rest to drop the voltage?

Gotta go

Prayers for those in need

Good evening,

Where are you Chuck?

I enjoyed an easy 3-mile run this morning.  It was 14 degrees outside (5 with the windchill), but I enjoy running in the cold.  The workday was pretty boring but went by somewhat fast.  We are expecting a few inches of snow overnight and it will remain cold.  I'm happy we are having some winter weather.

Good evening all,

Weather is getting bad here as Chuck has the snow cannon aimed the wrong way.  May or may not go in tomorrow.  After today, not sure I want to anyway.  All day long was one "crisis" after another.  Some of it was self-inflicted, but I do not need to constantly hear about it.   It will get fixed when it gets fixed.  Drive in and back home was ok.  Gas was 1.77 going in and some stations raised it to 2.15 going home.  I found one place at 1.79 and filled her up.   Two stations less than 2 miles apart under the same brand were that way as well.  Go figure.   I did get my outside walk in today.  Not too many people outside.  Cannot imagine why??? Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.  Contractor was over to look at room addition so he can give an estimate.   He had some good ideas as well.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Guys, Chuck can't reply.  Rebs have captured and gagged him.  We turned the snow cannon on you Yanks.

Wink

Not cold here yet but changing.

Good morning all.

Hi Chuck, it's good to see you escaped the Rebs.

We have about 5 inches on the ground here and the snow is slowly coming down.  The schools are closed and I do not have to go to work today.  I just read the paper and am enjoying some coffee.  Shortly, I'll go outside to shovel and play with the kids.

Mornin' Fellas

Working from the cave today. Took the kiddos to daycare at 7am this morning, got home at 9:00am... yes 2 hours to make a 45 minute trip! Snowing pretty good here... guess Chuck has the cannon aimed straight up?

We were supposed to get 1-3 inches, now 3-6. Glad I am working from home so I can get the drive cleared before I have to head to my traffic court hearing today. Need to remember what roads I'm on and watch the speed in the BMW! Sigh

Need to order new brakes and rotors for the silver streek and then get new rubbers for her at the end of the month. Should do her for repairs till I'm done paying on her in June. Really looking forward to that day because it will be the first time since 1992 that I will not have a car payment! She's got 149,000 miles on her now, not sure how long I stretch her though.

Good Morning from the Heartlands, a gorgeous day with 7 beautiful inches of white diamonds that came straight down w/no wind.  Very easy to push with the ATV as it was nice and cold when it snowed.  Tomorrow's high will be an invigorating -5.  Hope you left coasters can deal with a cool 65, so sad.

Brent,

As long as you keep up on the routine maintenance, high mileage is nothing.  The cancer that can set in on a vehicle from the salt in our part of the country is the biggest worry IMO.  All three Probes I had ran great, but salt killed them.  The last one I crushed had almost 205K and ran great, but rust got it.

Laz and Jack,

                    Welcome back!

Aloha. Kinda cold again this am. I ride the former C&NW northwest line, Kev. Yesterday, the train before mine was annuled due to 'equipment problems' which usually means either a switch froze in one of the outlying yards or the aux. engine warmers weren't enough to kick over one of these 35 year old F40s. That meant 'my' train was so jammed the conductors couldn't collect fares.  Today though the train car was nice and toasty. The doors kept jamming with ice. Riding at 60 mph you get to hear all the ice pinging off the car like bullets.

I noted Metra was saying my latest ticket increase went to pay for diesel-powered ice melters rather than the jet-fuel ones which constantly ran out of 'gas' - I miss seeing the open-flame natural gas switch heaters at the downtown Chicago station.

In a blizzard, it looked like the entire yard throat was on fire. And it sure was funky to ride through... but they went out with the bar cars and the forced air ones just don't work as well... Of course, out in the boonies, the UP still stores the occasional broom on a locked upright by the switch. Wielding that at 30 below can't be fun... though it would be fun to model. Hope the car starts tonight. (Crossed-fingers)

Good morning all !

In a little bit better frame of mind this morning, last nite this ***** software had me really bent out of shape. Thought the best idea at the time was to just log off and shutdown the computer before I said something very inapropriate. Lets just say it reformated my entry and blew the margins so I couldn't use the "edit" function to try and correct it.  Twice !

Jon, The weather out here has just turned absolutely terrible. They are calling for blue skies and 85*. But no rain for the forseeable future, thought they had predicted this would be an "El Ninio" year.

Seems as if the local stations are all talking about the "Ca Bullet Train", to nowhere. How does a project get an exemption from environmental impact report requirements even though that was a big part of the proposition that the voters approved. Just another boondogle that the taxpayers will be paying for, ad infinitum.

Well back to doing laundry.

Later all !

Doug your weather sounds totally unacceptble, next thing you will agonize over is the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach.  When we were in La Jolla last January it was just awesome to sit outside in the late afternoon and hear those waves and watch the surfers.  And then there's those Sunday afternoon concerts in Balboa Park, that's a little bit of Heaven on Earth.  We are pretty much home bound this winter, another surgery for me in late Feb. or March but then look out next July, life is good!!!!

Afternoon all.  Fair and cooler but not cold [yet].  Town meetings all morning and until now.  Got two more ponds to manage [one of the guys in the meeting owns them].  Now off to another one.  Was suppose to have only an hour meeting for the day.  Way it goes sometimes.

Tummy still not par.

Later

PS:  Doug M, saw on CBS news last night, burning switches on your commuter rail.  Keeps them from freezing and lets them operate.  Showed cars and engines running through burning flames.  Interesting.

The former C&NW has been UP since 1995, Kev. Jon, let's go!  Chief, those switch heaters just run a nat. gas or propane line with a wide-angle burner at the end - very basic but works. The newer ones try to blow hot air and don't seem to work as well.

Good evening all,

V8, cheapest gas in Glendora is 2.49 for regualar at Arco.

My live in son is home with us today and stayed here while I attended a caregiver meeting.  His current relationship with a girlfriend came to an abrupt end this week end.  Seems like the lady wanted to redesign his life and put pressure on him to pressure his boss for a raise.  I'm afraid she was a gold digger.  I'm glad it's over and so is he.  He told her to take a hike.  I hope he has better luck next time.

later,

Ray

Evening all!

With the new software I am not getting any popups or other "malware" like problems (other than those issues I posted in the Forum Bugs post, lack of Search being the biggest one). Working on iPAD and PC. The revolving ads on the right have been there for quite some time. Also had the MTH HO, but it is MTH.

Mike C - Legos - good stuff. We did give all of my son's away a couple of years ago. Three large storage tubs. Just no room left in the house. Some kid is very happy!

Hudson John - Loved the "roids" comment. How about a chocolate/vanilla swirl?

LAZ - see above - ice cream order = York planning! Later this year than normal.

Looks like from all the comments the old Snow Cannon is misfiring again!

Will get cold here but little for precipitation until Sat and then its rain (wecome in any form).

Doug M/Chief - they had that freezing switch clip on MBC national news tonight. Looked like nat gas, not diesel? No smoke.

Have a great evening all! Stay warm!

Regards, Roy

The former C&NW has been UP since 1995, Kev.

Thanks Doug, That is who I thought took over those rails. All the schools are closing tomorrow because of the cold. How about you?

Sandra got a call that Plainfield is closed tomorrow and a good thing, she is sick as a dog still, We went to the doctor today and they said it can take one to two weeks to get over so we may be done or olny half way there.

Got a new prescription drug provider this year from Cat and go figure the first one we get they don’t pay for.  Angry  They want the retired guys to drop dead. Tongue Tied

Gas is at $1.78 here so it don't hurt so much to drive,,,,,,,,,,,,,for now.

Had three nice bucks at the feed dish this afternoon. Two 6 pointers and a 4 pointer. You know it is cold when the bucks come that close.

Night.

Good evening all,

Got halfway to work today when a wreck closed the interstate.  Road was getting slick and I had already seen one car off the road.   Coming back home I saw another car do a 180 and I drove only 30 mph the rest of the way home.  Took a personal day.   Slept in the rest of the morning, paid some bills and talked to my financial adviser.   Wife and I worked on a puzzle today.   Other than that, pretty quiet day.  Back to the salt mines tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Nice sunny day today in the 20's.  The bottom is supposed to fall out on the temperature tonight - low around 0.

I saw no lead gas here today for $1.72 per gallon.  Never thought I'd see it there again.

All for now.

Yanks frozen up.  Fiberoptics up Nawth frozen close.  Good hot bowl of grits will open them up.

Morning all. Fair and in the 30's. Wind to pick up and temps to drop. No Town stuff on agenda for today [watch out]. Hope all you up Nawth are staying warm and safe. Dangerous out for yuz giz.

I will remember my Grandfather Frank [I was a little boy, but can see his face clearly when he said this] discussing snow and cold with me. Had a light snow per Yankee standards. School was out and I was happy. Told him I loved the snow. He told me he didn't. "Why Granddaddy?' "Because someone somewhere is cold and can't get warm." Has always stuck with me.

Each morning I mess with this software, I say I'm not posting again.  Crappy.

Later.
