Plugging along here.  Was buried at work when I returned last Monday... Still catching up.

At home I have been spending lots of time in the train room.  Hoping to have the outer loop operational for Christmas.  That would give me about 180 feet of track to run on while I'm working on the inner loop and sidings.

Good morning all,

Just checking in for the first time in December.  I read Unbroken before I was aware they were making a movie of it, great book.  Hope the movie does it justice.

Hope the California storm helps the drought & doesn't do to much damage.

Like the chief we have been waiting for the weather to cooperate so we can finish cleaning up the fall leaves.  We have a decorative pear tree in the front lawn that hangs onto its leaves long after the others are bare.  In fact it is still clinging to a few.  At the moment we have an inch or so of snow covering them so it looks pretty good

Enjoy your day.

Today is an easy day. A few chores to do and then relax. Sure do miss baseball..  Not much else new.

Cheerios for breakfast on the dining car.

Good morning all and good morning Chuck!

Dreary day here today. Maybe some sprinkles.

Son found an interesting way to get home from Houston yesterday. Needed to return earlier than planned. Downloaded Uber and scheduled a ride downtown. Booked on Megabus from Houston to Dallas. Got a buddy to pick him up. Uber $26. Megabus (with free WiFi) $9. Trip time about 4.5 hrs. Had it been me I would have grabbed a taxi to airport $50-60. One way ticket on Southwest $210. Travel time. About 4 hrs when one considers airport security and typ delays.

Have a great day all!

Regards, Roy

Sunny cold morning.  Been catching up on Chicago PD and Stalker [DVR'd].  Now get ready to do chores and leaves.  Grady [neighbor and helper] came over last evening about dark with MY backpack blower and started blowing leaves in the wrong direction.  When I got out front, he could hardly stand up.  Took blower from him and told him to go home and sober up.  He admitted he had been doing shots of homemade brandy with his buddies all afternoon.  Suppose to be here this AM.  Speaking of the devil.  He just called.  "Chief, I got to go replace a few shingles on a roof.  I'll see you at noon."  He will if he stays away from his buddies and stays sober.  Hard worker but loves his "drink".

Good morning, All seem to be fairing okay. A good thing.

Brent for years I would get up at 4:00AM to go to work. Wifey still does. 6:00 AM is sleeping in. It took me months and months to brake the habit and learn to sleep to 7:30 when I did retire. Just part of the grind.

Got a replacement area light for the shed yesterday to replace the only two year old China junk 70 watt HPS light that quit. It is a 42 watt LED gives the same light as a 200 watt incandescent light. But it takes a lot of green to go green. Cost $109 and that was $70 off list. Yeah and it is from China too. Ashamed

Enjoy the day.

Good Afternoon All !

Like the other LeftCoasters just waiting for the rain. Looks like the LA area guys will get more than us down here, just like last week. Although the surf is going to be huge the next few days, 8 to 10 feet with some sets at 14. Sure don't envy the folks with beach front or bluff side properties. Look out below ! Dunce

All packed up for tomorrow, as "chef-du-jour" we'll be having chili for lunch. Since it is supposed to be raining and much cooler chili will be perfect. I do plan on leaving much earlier than normal because traffic will probably be horrendous but even worse on the way home.

Fife, Quit trying to steal the dog's treats ! Clown Maybe Fife was "in the doghouse" and she didn't want to share her space. Whistling

Back to the kitchen.

Good time getting up leaves.  Grady kept having visitors and going home.  A little more mouthy when he came back and less stable.  Assured me tomorrow no more "shots".  That time of the year for him.  Holiday "spirits".

Off to bed early for me.

Good evening all,

A good day.  Gift exchange at work went very well.  One coworker gave me a railroad calendar with mid 19th century artwork advertising various rail lines.  It IS so cool!!!   This group I met with is so much fun to be with (unlike the bunch I have to be with tomorrow).   Got the tables set up for the standard gauge layout for Christmas this year.   Will have only one siding and less buildings, but hope to have crossing gate operational.  Also ran the Santa Fe freight  cars around the tree tonight.  May use that instead of Polar Express as a change of pace and it is less fragile around a 18 month old.   I am glad to hear the left coast is getting much needed rain.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Aloha. Warming and sunny -might be 50 by Monday thanks to the storms on both coasts. I've gotten up at 0530 for years. It is certainly quiet then...Good time to do lots of trouble-shooting at work.

Cloudy as usual, 32 degrees

No breaking news here, I'm just trudging along.

Charlie was here this morning to tuneup this laptop, took him about five minutes to fix something I would have never found. Man I hate being computer challenged.

Good morning all,

We've had about one inch of rain overnight so far but we need all we can get.  So far burned areas are staying put and no bad mud slides reported yet.

Got started on my new crown on my right front incisor tooth yesterday.  Had to leave my partial with the lab overnight but am suppose to get it back today.  I will have to do it again next week when they make the permanent crown.  Just have a temporary one now for a few days.  Whole thing costing around $1100.  Ouch!  Could have bought a nice train for that.

Need to make appointment with lawyer to sign trust papers but having a hard time finding an available day to do it.  He is about 15 miles away in Pasadena.  Might have to wait until after Christmas as the lawyer is taking some time off near  the holiday.

later,

Evening all

Boy, did we get dumped on yesterday.  Roughly 6" of the white stuff which fell over a 18 hour period.  I do love the wintery view I get when I'm out behind the wheel of the 4WD plow.  A blizzard seems to multiply the number of idiots you see driving.  For some reason they've adopted the ridiculous habit of using their 4 way flashers and always seem to be first in a long precession of cars.  I lovingly call this the oriental parade.

You probably noticed I've been busy with a railcar project.  It's been a fun build as long as I take my time and think things through.  I've never so much as drawn out a rough plan so I'm flying by ear.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

Good evening all,

Surprisingly good day today.   Meetings were worthless.  Lunch was good.  Watched Grimm tonight.  It was ok.  Not one of the better episodes.  Do not have to go anywhere this weekend.   Talked to Lucas tonight.  He is learning about the construction business so he is getting a double bonus with the second job.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Mornin' boys.  Partly cloudy & 44 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Big Army - Navy game in town today.  It was very cool having Cobras, Apaches and Hornets flying around all day practicing for flyovers.  Fifepup again was in the midst of it, working on the tour boat.

Finished grandson's layout, and he was very excited and happy to get it under his Christmas tree.  Will have oldest princess take some pics for Sunday Photo Fun.  Will be busting my tail to finish nephew's layout this weekend.  Haven't even tried the swing bridge yet...

As to the doooooooooooggggg....

You got to understand that FifeMax is a border collie that truly believes this family lives to play with him.  Granted, he is a naturally gifted frisbee catcher, ball retriever, bird snatching, squirrel stalking K-9.  He has a kettle ball.  Knowing how much I was waiting all day to kick the kettle ball around Fifedom to him, he placed same just under the rear storm door, probably so I wouldn't have to go looking for it....yeeeesss....  Fifey, with tools in hand, was headed out to the garage (trying to get these layouts finished), stepped outside the aforementioned door.  Wifey, whom was standing in the kitchen, caught this out of the corner of her eye, and said I dropped so fast, she thought I had a heart attack (this is her thinking).  Now, for those who may not be up to speed, middle princess is in her 4th year of college, majoring in nursing.  She was home at the time.  As I'm catching my breath after the SPLAT, Wifey, still in a state of shock, is coming to my aid, not sure what she's going to find.  Not one summons to our resident nursing student.  As I was slowly starting to move, all I could muster was, "Don't worry Honey, the concrete broke my fall."

And the dog, who normally when I am on the ground is all over me, apparently found a way to crawl under the pirate ship in the back yard.

Fife.....glad you are ok and it was only concrete....!!!! Nice story!!! Keep an eye out for my sister and sister in law, they are there for the game. My Nephew, USNA Class of '14, is currently in Pensacola training to be a Naval Aviator. So, they became big fans...especially since said Nephew was in the Pep Squad. Received a pair of RMT Snow Hoppers and Walter Matusch signed the receipt with a thank you!!! Tomorrow I'll have to dismantle the Christmas layout, the move to take it to work is just too much. At work now, so I'll have to get back at it. See ya in a few!

Fife, glad you are OK.  That could have been a nasty fall.

Took my fliver in to get a flat tire made round this morning.  Was very low last night.  The guy fixed it no charge.  Hard to believe in this day and age but he wants to win new customers at the tire store. Anyway I was grateful.

Our town had a Christmas parade this AM but missed it while at the tire store.

Our live in son is off to see his girlfriend tonight so we are dining without him.  They are spending the day together again tomorrow. Looks like the love bug has bitten him hard.

Going out to eat tonight at Chili's if it is not too crowded but might be on Saturday night.  If so we have back up plans.

Weather is turning very cold (for here) tonight in the 40's.  I'd freeze to death in a real winter.

Need to work on pool some more.  Still getting a little algae growth in spite of colder temps.  I don't get it.  Probably needs more chemicals.

Snow in the mountains now.  Local ski lifts are probably happy.  Fire danger is over and mud slides are non existant at least in our area.

Ray

Good evening all,

A good day.   Got cards sent to my Norwegian friends (hope they get there in time), and worked on Standard gauge Christmas layout.  Will be simpler this year with just one siding.   Track is all laid, tested and tied together with zip ties.   Will set up LEGO buildings, street lights and telephone poles.   Ceramic heater got back porch warmed up to 70 degrees so quite comfy working.  Moved wife's treadmill to back porch as well, which freed up space in back bedroom.  Got notification that Polar Express Trolley finally shipped.   Should be here next week.   Fifedog, I am glad you are ok.   Watched Home Alone with wife.   I hope everyone has a good day.
