Don't forget, Seems to take a back seat to 9-11. Both important.

Aloha. Showing the youngest a bit of video about Pearl Harbor and the Pacific war this morning. Buckeye, thats a very neat scene! We went to an enjoyable fund-raiser wine-tasting event in the city last night. Sometimes I can feel very out of place at these things. Looks like sun and 40 degrees for today and a bit of snow overnight which is great since I don't have to go to the office. I am excited about the track laying at Charlies.

Good morning all,
Just reflecting on what happened in 1941 on this date. I was only 5 years old then and never heard of Pearl Harbor. My Dad was then working in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Va. and had an opportunity to transfer to Pearl Harbor shipyard before the war started but my mother was too sick to go.
Also of equal importance is 9/11. Both dates were life changers.
Both TCA and TTOS are having their Christmas meets yesterday and today but I had to pass on both. Was going to TCA yesterday but wife felt ill so I stayed with her even though son was home. Today my son is off to spend the day with his girlfriend so I am elected again to be the caregiver. I have gone to enough train meets to last a lifetime so I guess I can live without it. Hope to make a meeting in January.
Neighborhood is slow getting outside lights up this year. Just me and the neighbor across the street have ours up. My son decorated the Christmas tree yesterday. I put the lights on and he did the rest. Still trying to get the spirit. Oh well! I can always fake it. I still find the best part of Christmas is the holy one. I am enjoying the music on the radio though.

Yes, Strange how history can fade to black as the years pass. Hardly anything on TV about it either. I was not born but my dad served in Burma got a bug in his lungs and was sent home. His lungs never fully recovered. The fix was they poisoned him till it killed the bug inside of him.Took him 6 month to recover from the poison.
Slow here on the North Bluff. May do something on the layout later. Football is over for us in the Chicago area.
Have a good day.

Afternoon all!
There is a 1943 Pearl Harbor account on TCM later this afternoon.
Banks - you hear a low moaning/gear "whirring" sound that is sync'd with wheel revolution. I used to auto cross a 68 Corvette and lost the ring/pinion once and the positrak clutch pack (makes a popping sound in turns) another time. Dealer told me there was no way the ring/ pinion went out. I said "let's take a spin." As soon as we hit the street he said "ok." Sound is distinctive and unmistakable.
Fever broke for yesterday. Did too much. Changed two car batteries out. One in wife's car was aging and it was straining during the cold snap. The other was in the Tahoe and was acting strangely. I just replaced it this year in April. It would take a charge, and then once it drained itself to 4 volts. I suspected a shorted cell, but it would charge to a full 12.6 volts, but charge current would settle at 2-3 amps minimum. Usually a shorted cell pulls the max voltage down to 10-11 volts. I thought the inability for the current to go near zero might be my cheapie charger since voltage was right. Since all the new batteries are sealed now I could not do a cell by cell measurement. So took to Sears and they confirmed there was a shorted cell. Gave me a new one. All is good now.
So after all that suffering for it today. Slept until nearly noon. Felt like I was in a coma.
Buckeye - nice little scene. You could have Fife looking for his bullets (ah now the question is which Fife am I talking about. Discuss amounst yourselfs). You should come to York more often!
Watching some football. Browns game. Defense is holding up the game. Watching to see if they'll put my boy Manziel in today.
Regards, Roy
Good evening all,
Got the tree decorated. Looks nice. Put the tree up as well in the attic. Just has lights on it, but looks good at night standing in the window. Got some gift cards as well. Just about down with shopping. Ordered something for wife as there was free shipping today. Made in USA Santa Fe box car arrived in priority mail today. Looks nice, was hoping it was Polar Express Trolley instead. Maybe this week. Yes, today is a day to remember. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Good Evening !
Been a good week-end, got the outside decorations up even though we are two weeks late. Chris and Kay actually did the work.
Dennis, what you were looking for is "Customer Service", unfortunately that is really difficult to find!
I maid mention a couple of weeks ago about some led light strips I bought. If I do it right and the computer cooperates, this is what I got.
What I purchased was a string of these LEDs, 30 pcbas per string. They were allegedly used on outside billboards. And they operate on 12vdc. As they are wired in Series/Parallel they can be cut to the nexessary length. Cost was about $3.50 per string.
Lighting them up is very easy, just using Wallworts that I have been accumulating.
As there isn't any heat being transmitted, they are extremely easy to mount on the underside of the shelf. The picture is not very good, was using ambient light only. I plan on putting them on a switch on my control panel for independant operation.
Don
Morning all. Cold and cloudy. Possible rain today. Town Christmas tree lighting tonight. Rode in parade with my special wave yesterday. It was cold and windy. Sending some "good" stuff north to the Yanks for a few days.
If you need anything electrical, ask Shake and Bake. He can usually find it or fix it.
Hope all have a great week.

Chief, I really appreciate your confidence and compliments. BUT, as I keep telling you. No matter HOW many of those Absent T Ballots you keep sending me, and even IF I filled them out and returned them they would not count. ( I'm sure SOMEONE there will look at the return zip code.)
But, thanks for the compliment anyway.
Quiet day at work. Finished Christmas shopping except for Lucas, who will get some gift cards. I did the Christmas letter, and the wife liked it right off the bat, which is rare. Tomorrow night will be Christmas cards before and after the Flash. Watched Jane the Virgin, which was good. I hope everyone has a good day.
Good morning sleepy heads.
We have the usual cloudy with a temp of 38.
Chief no snow for the dogs and sled.
Can stay this way till April. I could handle that.

Aloha. Another grey day. I'm with SJ - I can take 39 and grey until Spring! This time last year it was super-sub-zero. Glad you're feeling better, Roy. Dennis, if you remember your Gmail username, you can reset the password yourself. There should be a 'forgot password' link on the login page. If you are looking for your Chromebook to be recognized by your home network or just your internet-provider's router, it should show the available wireless networks - yours is probably the one with the strongest signal.
V8Vega More on my new Chromebook. I found that I can browse the internet as a guest so that means I'm connected. One of my problems solved. Now the 1st guy at Best Buy who was so helpful has set up a Google account on it except I couldn't remember my email password and the only password I have written down doesn't work.I'm going to ask at the Verizon store tomorrow if they can tell me my password or at Best Buy if I get a cooperative guy help me with a new password. Then I'll be all set. Verizon and Best Buy are in the same shopping center near my church.

Dennis - when you connect to GMail via the link on the Google webpage you get a sign in screen. Just below the Sign In button is a 'Need help?' link, click on it.Click the 'I don't know my password' button, enter your email address (yourname@gmail.com), then click the [Continue] buttonClick the [I don't know] buttonIf you have a smart phone assigned to the account you can have a notification (text message if I remember correctly) sent to the phone and it will step you through verifying your identity and resetting your password.
Going to my caregiver support group meeting today. Missed the last one. My son is having his girl friend over this afternoon. Don't know if I will get home in time to see her.
I have been looking for pictures of the TCA Christmas party I missed but have not been able to download them yet.
Nighbors all around me have their outside lights up now. Can't believe we were first this year.
Got a report on TTOS Christmas meet from a friend. Says he sold a lot of stuff including a Williams brass GS4 Daylight engine and another complete Milwaukee trains set with little Joe electric engine and several early passenger cars from the MPC era.
Don, nice going on your electrical handiwork. Should have taken your offer to make a new control panel on my layout before you got injured. Well, hindsight is 20/20. About all I have done lately is try to keep the track clean. I only get out there once or twice a month since I have been chief cook and bottle washer around here.
Spring like weather today. Went for a long walk this morning. They say we might get some more rain by Friday.
Back from early meeting in Raleigh [too long]. 41 and showers, BURR.
Sir J., I will work on trying to get you lots of snow.
dbaker48 I wondered where my Union Pacific passenger cars were at. Don you can send them back to me anytime.

A good day at work. Went for a short walk at noon. Maybe not the best of conditions to do so. Quiet night at home as we will be watching The Flash in a few. I hope everyone has a good day.
Hi there, Cold to the bone and my bad arm is killing me today.
Not a lot else, just waiting on some deliveries of train stuff to finish up the addition,,,,at least for now.
Nice special on tonight about the upcoming movie Unbroken. I did not realize Louis Zamperini was still alive when they were making the movie. That will add to the accuracy of the movie. Amazing man.
i highly recommend the book. It is a great read.
Mike C - glad it was a good day for you.
Ken - sorry about the arm.
Buckeye - you claiming UP cars...really?
Dennis- glad you got the Chromebook working. Always frustrating to have a new gadget not working as advertised.
BTW - any of you know how to search for a topic on the forum? I checked out the new MRR forum to view the changes (other than colors and some layout it is not really different to me) and wanted to search on a topic. No search button except the one in the upper right (like here) that only searches the entire site - not just the forum.
i have the MRR 75 yr DVDS and it is great, but it is missing a very important item, an index of which magazines (start date/end date) are on each disc (1, 2, or 3). Real pain to select a Month/Year issue and then you wait for it to tell you which DVD to insert. I assume the topic has been broached in the past year and did not want to duplicate it.

Late good morning. Been on phone and texting [at the same time] since 7:30. Mayor's stuff. Was suppose to do leaves after they dry a little. Now got meeting at 3.
SJ, haircut at 11:45.
Rich, 11 hour days are worse than Mayor's days.
Sun is finally out.
Have a good one.
Chief I beat you out this AM
Got a hair cut And the car washed.(I have to pay for my haircuts )Car wash too.
Cloudy and 30 degrees this morning.
Went to my meeting yesterday on wrong day. Duh! Not a total loss though as I stopped at N-and-Out burger on the way home and OD'd on a double double.
Got home in time to see son's girlfriend again. She stayed late and they went out to dinner. We declined an invitation to go with them as I was not feeling too hot.
Put in a call with the plumber this morning for a fix on vanity faucet which may be defective. Dinner tonight with old folks group. It will be our Christmas meeting. Seems like a lot of us have one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel but we're still going.
Need to pick up a spiral cut Ham for Christmas. It seems too early but I guess they will keep. Costco has them on sale now.
Talked to SIL in New Hampshire a couple of days ago. She said they were digging out of snow. Offered to send her a ticket for a visit with us but she doesn't like to fly. All of our relatives on both sides are not in a good position for traveling now. That's the price we pay for living in California. However, I'll take it when I look at the weather back there.

Yawn!I'm up and out the door with two toddlers by 6:00am every week day... gotta get them to daycare by 6:30am so I can get to work by 8.So looking forward to retirement! LOL!
I don't normally get until 10:00 so what is this 6:30 am stuff .
Morning all just a relaxing day for me.
Hope you all having a good day just a fly through
A quiet, good day at work. Went for a longer walk at noon. Finally found a workable clothing arrangement that will get me thru the day without aggravating the recovery process. Seems like this is taking.....forever. I know many of us here have had (and still having) much more major situations to deal with, but this is my first time going thru such a process and quite frankly, it creates a vacuum. Again, thank you all for the support. Arrow is on tonight and the Flash was quite good last night. I hope everyone has a good day.

Long day today. Still suffering a bit from the bug that hit me Friday. Recovering however.
Mike C - hang in there.
anjdev - 11 hrs ow! Done my share of that.
Ray, Don, Dennis - will the storms out there help your reservoirs?
Have about half the indoor decorations up. Started with tree on Sunday. Add a little bit each evening. We don't do that much. I had an acquaintance some years back that during a remodel, built a Christmas tree closet behind the chimney/fireplace. Throws a plastic bag over the tree which is on a roller base and slides it into and out of the closest. Sweet!
Have a great evening all!
