I think I came a inch of being permanently banned from Trains.com on MR's Elliott's Diner. I know I can have a caustic way of saying things even with me using restraint. I have to be really careful to not post anything that might be risky, its just not worth the chance to me.

Morning all.  Rainy and chilly [but they say 70 today].  Suppose to dive in temps tonight.

Got Golden Corral Vets meal this afternoon.  Will do a part in it.

Suppose to get HS Principal and meet a contractor.  He is going to move a rock to HS campus for her.  She is going to let kids decorate.

KEV, you and Doug M stay warm.  I think Mike might be getting chilled to too.  Chuck is probably in for some snohio too.  Buckeye, let it snow, let it snow.

Hope all have a great week.

Good and Cold morning,

Not much to talk about. 13 degrees with sun but an 80% chance of white stuff later, Doug has it worse, only 9 up by him. Good news is it is heading to points east as well so like they say misery loves company. Smile, Wink & Grin

Thinking of heading up to the camp later in the week but not liking what I see in the forecast. Tongue Tied

The daughter and her crew spent Saturday night. Dan was in the tree stand and the grand-kids and I ran trains. Wink

evening all,

The great white north is living up to it's name.  Began here around 10 am with flurries ever since.and it's not melting.  Was able to pull in WLS 700 tonight and it seems it's just as cold and miserable in Cinci as it is here.

Ran some conventional on the floor today.  I believe I've gone over every engine with a tune-up by now.

Thanks to all for their thoughts on the TMCC installations.  Sounds like even a traditional GG1 installation is possible with sound...great to know.

Here's hoping everyone who is dealing with ailments gets a little help from the big guy.  have a great week,.

Good evening all,

Did not do much today.  Watched a tape of a match from last week.  Rested.   Snohio will hit the hoosier state tonight.  Did get to watch local Honda train go past church after Mass this morning.    Had an ex-BNSF engine on the point in orange and green colors.   Impressive.   Not much else going on.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

morning from chilly Corvallis --- down to low 20s--- have to do something about heat in greenhouse.... plants got to 30 -- still ok, but it usually gets to the teens, so have to add some of my heat cables between the floor and plants... tables have micro tubing and are fine.  In Alaska, we had natural gas and a nice heater, but here no Gas, and propane is $$$ so the small electric water heater heats  micro tubing  on the benches and that works..  But wife insists on putting heavy things on the floor beneath,so have to make it warmer.   not supposed to be so cold these next few nights........ But first have to go back down to Eugene to spend another day running O scale trains with my fello club members... we have a 30x15 set up with three tracks and several members have some really nice trains.  I take my old old ebay special and can put most of my cars on at the same time --can't do that at home --grandson likes his operating cars where he can get them ... not running around the track.    And mine has a cool tender whistle -- not the electronic ones of the new ones.  Fun to watch the kids' eyes light up when the little train goes by and whistles at them.    G'day to you all. -- on another completely different note, last night, we watched the dvd -- NFL Draft with Keven Costner(sp).  it was very entertaining.....

Morning all.  Cloudy and cool [but not as cold as yesterday].  Something about 70's tomorrow and maybe a severe T'storm.  Then  cold again.  Crazy weather.

Off to Sunday School.  Probably will want to know who I am. Haven't felt like going in a couple of months.  Had rested and slept in.

Mike, figured snow would keep those un-American games down.

Hope all have a great week.

Good evening all,

Sun was out earlier today.   Went to a couple of local Christmas bazaars today and got a few items.   Got a new battery for wife's minivan.   Wife and I did a jigsaw puzzle this evening.  A quiet day, a good day.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Cold and sunny good morning.  Been watching DVR'd shows.  Getting caught up.  Some great stuff on several channels.  Smithsonian Channel has Helicopter Missions and Air Warriors.  Both are great series.

Kev, it is only 36 here.  Didn't get as cold as you did but real cold for November here.

Buckeye is like an old "barr".  Crawls out of his den and looks around.  Too cold so he crawls back in and sleeps.

Glad I got Shake and Bake to upgrade some engines for me.  Now he is doing his.  ERR will send my commission. Whistling

Off to Hunters Haven.

Mornin' boys.  So Tuesday around 4:30, I'm sitting on the yatchet, waiting for the marina owner to wheel the travel-lift over to the launch.  Perfect sunset, calm water, temp around 65 Paradise...  Well, that's over. Sigh

Had PizzaBeerCake over daughter's last night.  Grandson hit the big 3.  Boy has more toys than Mattel.

Today, laundry and working on Christmas layouts.  One benchwork almost done, the other I have to get sawing.

Angel to all our "family" and loved ones.

Good Evening,

Regarding the GG1 and TMCC upgrade.  I talked with Ken of ERR earlier today and asked him about installing the board set in the GG1 with the AC motors.  He said it shouldn't be a problem, he has sold a lot of them into that engine.  He also commented that those that opted for the sound board had said it can be done, but it is a tight squeeze.

Hopefully, this weekend I will have time to install a kit in some 1954 Santa Fe F3 units.

Thanks for the encouragement, Don.  I suppose once the PS1 electronics are gone there will be plenty of room in the scale GG1.  The unit crawls along really nice as is so with TMCC it should move ridiculously slow.  Ten pounds of engine makes for positive power continuity.

I have 2 traditional GG1's, one MPC the other LTI so I understand your concern about space for adding TMCC.  I'll remember to dismantle one of them while doing the scale GG1 installation to compare for fit.  If I recall correctly, there's not much space between the motors, with the E unit taking up most of it.   The only other issue I can see is the inherent incompatibility the AC motors seem to have with TMCC..  While I really wanted  an RDC under command control, installing TMCC didn't improve it's performance noticeably.

Once I have all the electronics at the ready I'll keep you updated on the installation.

Bruce

I will add this since your talking GG1's I added tmcc to williams scale GG1 and it ran great and there was plenty of room but yes it had dual can dc motors in it. and I know worried about room in a AC motor traditional size GG1 which could be tight but think you could get it in there but you might have to remove the E-unit that is in there now thou.

Frank, I think maybe you're right but she has tried everything else except surgery and she's too old for that I'm afraid.  Friend of ours tried it and it was not successful.  She went steadily down hill after that but died of unrelated illness.

It looks like it could snow here if it was colder.  Wouldn't that be something in Southern California.  It did snow once back in 1949 before I got here.

Happy trails,

Weather report:  Cold and windy.  Actually snowed this AM.  Didn't stick as too warm.

Health report: doing better.  Eating better and trying the three meals a day with smaller portions.  Well, did eat a big salad bar [only one plate though] at Ruby Tuesday's [while Don Baker called, went to VM Whistling].

Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes.

May get some Train Box stuff done this weekend and next week.  Not hunting.  Not due to health but weather forecast and one meeting a day.  Watch out Thanksgiving week.  Gone hunting. Thumbs Up

Good morning all,

Chapel this morning.

Sister in Florida was hospitalized Wednesday for anemic condition.  Is OK now and will be coming home today  Her birthday is tomorrow.  What a way to spend it.

Wife went for accupuncture yesterday and had an "episode" during the treatment.  I thought she was having another fainting spell but I think it was claustraphobia.  She was uncomfortable sitting on the special bench they use while working on the neck.  Whole thing scared me. Went to ER last time it happened in church but they found nothing.  If it happens again will discontinue the accupuncture.  Will talk to my regular doctor about it.

later,

Ray

Bruce,

Somehow I missed your post, just wanted to throw out a couple of thoughts.

Plate Rail

Don:  I have feuding Atlas F units with TMCC in both.  Busted both their dummy couplers trying to reset them to play nice.  I can't imagine configuring DCS and TMCC to coexist together.  Makes my head hurt.  I feel your pain.

Running DCS and TMCC at the same time isn't really much of a chore.  I program the TMCC and Legacy engines into my DCS controller as well.  There they work well together, actually not any different than running two DCS engines.  I did screw up with a MU consisting of two TMCC engines, had one at the head of the train, and another at the end.  During the course of operation somehow the two got out of sync, I didn't notice.  Ended up breaking couplers on a couple of die cast coal cars from the engines pulling in opposite directions.

Since that incident I always run the engines first WITHOUT their couplers connected.  That way I know their in sync, and also if one is significantly faster than the other.

Been talking to RT about ERR kits for my MTH scale GG1 and Williams FM trainmaster.  Really am looking forward to trying both out under TMCC but the real thrill will be doing the conversion.

I will be interested in how the GG1 upgrade goes.  I have a MPC GG1 I would consider doing that with, but it has AC motors and not sure if there is space.  Good luck on your upgrade, I'm sure you will do well.

Stay well.

Bruce

Bruce, I have a few of the Atlas engines from very early 2000 with TMCC. Don't know if it's the version of TMCC that they were licensed or what but they don't seem to remember the finetuning you can do for lashups. They tend to have some memory lapses when it comes to stall speed especially.

That seems to have been the issue here, Doug.  One engine is fine, the other was either full throttle in the opposite direction or nothing. I set them aside but did get around to changing out the broken couplers.  Will try working on resetting the momentum and such when I find the time.

I was really concerned about screwing things up when I did the TMCC transplant into a Budd RDC. That operation seemed to go well with all the bells a whistles operational.  One trick was to wire the strobe light circuit into 2 rear markers that flash red whenever the engine is at rest.  Might even try to adapt a set of coil couplers at some later date.

Good evening all,

A good, quiet day at work.  Got all accomplished that I wanted to do.   Found out some files had more information than originally thought.  Somebody had made some corrections and never informed us of the changes.  Long story.  More work needs to be done, but a good start is done.   Cold weather on walk today, will have to dress warmer for tomorrow.  Hopefully sun will come out someday.  This cloudiness is depressing and I am already done with the snow.   Wife cooked a great meal tonight of roast beef and mashed potatoes.   She is a good cook, but sometimes I like to brag.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
