Aloha. My first evening of class went well. I even managed to lug home a gigantic new computer afterwards. Nice 60-70 degree day today.
Joe, is Wright Patterson AFB near the Dayton airport or associated with it. They had an awesome museum there.

Dennis, is there still a railroad that you can ride or see in Griffith Park?  I hear what you say about the bike lanes but they're deeply appreciated here - especially in the city where they are trying to off-set them with their own little traffic lights and fencing. They even have a new enormous rent-a-bike program- for $7 you get one for 24 hours. Anyway, the cyclists are always getting clobbered by taxis... They also put in bike lanes in our subdivisions but they're more visual reminders that a cyclist is riding there. When I grew up, you had to stay on the sidewalks...

Cloudy good morning.  Rested up yesterday.  Lunch meeting and that's all.  Meds are working.  Legs and feet are good.  Occasional joint pain.

Nice being lazy.  OH, sun just came out.  Contrary to weatherperson.  Prayers for all those that were in the fires paths in CA.  Surprised NC Air National Guard is not there.  C130's bomb the fires.  Remember, we lost a crew in CO. a few years ago.

Then AZ, NV and west Texas is going to get flooded.

Have a good one.

Good evening,

The wife was a little better today and the 4 y/o son is fully recovered; however, the older son needed to stay home from school again.  He progressed as the day went on and should be back in school tomorrow.  The workday was busy and flew by.  We had a nice dinner at home and it’s just about bedtime for me now.

Good night all and good morning Chuck (that’s for tomorrow),

Looks awesome! In the second photo in the far corner it appears there is a gap in the benchwork. Is that so?

Yes that is the door to my mechanical room.  I will have a lift up bridge at that location.

Good Afternoon,

Sure is hot here, over 103 (in the shade).  Sure glad I'm not in a steam engine right now!

Was browsing around on various forums, sure hope RB (from Louisiana, does OK tomorrow.  He is having surgery don't know what kind, but sounds serious.)

Also, sure like that benchwork Charlie!  Makes me want to tear mine down and re-do it.  Those pictures are really great everything so nice and clean.  Love to see an image of the layout your going to build.

Chief glad to see you are taking it a easy, a little bit.  You need to come up with away of doing that without running yourself to the end of the line first.

Going to go and see if I can do something with a couple of printers that are giving Kay some headaches.

Talk Later

Charlie - that benchwork looks.... awesome! How did you cut the rounded ends? All one level?

All one level Brent.  I used my jigsaw with a Bosch blade to cut the plywood and SJ's belt sander to smooth things out.

Can't wait to see track down, and trains running!

I had Matthew in the train room the other day and he look VERY interested (only took him 19 months!), so hopefully I can get started on the Christmas Tree Train Garden and get back into the train room to finish the wiring. Fun times!

Afternoon all,

Cool but sunny here in beautiful downtown Gormley.  Spell check suggests I change the town name to Gormless.  I'm gonna have to look up that word in the dictionary.

Hope you're feeling better, Chief.

Don'tcha just love that benchwork?  It's like a fresh, clean piece of drawing paper just ready for the imagination. Wish I was that far along with the attic.  All the fun parts of the layout building begin now!

The general Toronto area has pandered to the bike riders as of late too.  The war against the automobile is hotter and heavier than ever.  The bike lane on a close by secondary street within a subdivision seems  to be always blocked with parked cars, making it kinda dangerous.  Obviously the cops are even ignoring such a stupid idea.  Even stupider is that realistically the season for bicycling here is only about 7 months out of the year.

Good morning all,

Dennis, the outdoor G gauge railroad is about the only thing I care to see at the fair.  The G gauge has been in for a few years now and is operated by a club.  Prior to that the engines were hand built and an unusual scale.  Actually I liked them better than the G gauge.  The fair paid an individual to maintain and operate the old railroad but after a falling out between them, the fair got a club to come in, tear out the old track and lay the G gauge.  On top of that they do it all free just for the priviledge of being able to run their trains on the layout during the year

The guys in my Thursday night group which used to meet at another member's house for years helped the guy at the Fairground to get the track ready for the fair for a couple of years.  He wanted to buy the old trains from the fair but they would not sell them.  I think they are still stored out there somewhere.  I know there was a lot of bitterness over getting him out and bringing in the G gauge but I believe that in the long run, the G gauge people have done a superb job of keeping it up and adding a lot of new things that the old guy was unable to do.  The only down side was that the old trains had a lot of historical value having been at the fair for so many generations.  I also miss the O gauge indoor layout that was underneath the grandstand.  That was another fiasco between the fair manager and some hot heads in the club.  Bottom line---the club lost.  Too bad, it was a great layout.  Of course they still have the real steam engines on display less the Big Boy which was sent back to Cheyenne this year for restoration.

Cloudy good morning.  Turning sunny so they say.  The rash/hemorrhages on legs and feet are fading in some.  We'll see how the day goes.  Home resting [as ordered] except for a lunch meeting here.

All have a great day.

Good evening,

I just have time for a quick post tonight as I’m about to get some sleep.  Today was a long, busy day.  I worked a half-day so I could come home and tend to the still ailing family.  The daughter was well enough to make it to school but the older boy was not.  The wife was feeling worse so I needed to be here to help her out.  I think you all can relate to what it’s like when mom is sick.

Doug M. – The Dayton airport is small but convenient.  It sure beats the three-hour bus ride to Narita I used to have.

Good night Chuck, and everyone else.

If you were basically stuck at home, you would too.  Good outlet.

BTW: I am stuck at home too.  Dr. ordered me home.  Filling me full of steroids and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever meds.  Waiting for results from 4 vials of blood taken.  Unknown reaction or virus right now.  So, I guess Mayors do get sick.  Well, at least I will not come dragging in at 9:30 10:00 tonight.  Re-watching DVR'd train and hunting shows.  Spending a lot of time on Sportsman and Outdoor Channels.

Hey, guys!!

Long weekend was great, needed time off.

Saturdays NJ Firemans Convention Parade saw us march 1st in line in memory of our

LODD Davey...not in competition, but still got 2nd place color guard overall,

which I was proud to be a part of.

Just getting back in the swing of things, roadrunner is now on the front burner.  New engine harness came in and tonight, I'll install.  Maybe fire it up.

Angel for those in need....

Ray, saw your post regarding the stripped gear on the 4-8-4. For interest sake, what is the model number of the locomotive and bad part number. PS: I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of Kale. Swede

The number of the engine is 20-3015.  Don't know the gear part number.  Local repair guy thinks both the gear on the axle and the worm gear are stripped.  Axle gear appears dished out.  Found some metal filings in gear box.  The engine was made in 1995 in Korea I think.

Mornin' All.

Up early this morning so I can get the laundry done before it gets hot. One load done two in process and one to go.

Don, I have been using Chuck, "O'nly 3 Rail", in the Denver area for some time now. Started having him do my repairs when he was with Mizzells and continued when he opened his own place. I think it is going to tuff finding parts for Ray's engine, maybe someone will have one they are parting out.

We, the club, have to be very careful with regards to "fundraising" since we are a C-7 non-profit which has a lot more restrictions than a C-3.

Don, Prayers continue for you and Kay.

Well the laundry is calling !

Later all.

A Late Good Morning,

Doing pretty well here, leg OK.  Have a smaller cast on now, which is not as near restrictive as the other one.  Back to Dr this Wednesday to have remaining stitches out from surgery.  No weight bearing, but I can handle that.  The leg sure feels a lot better, more secure.

Kay is doing well she has 3 of the 4 major treatments behind her.  And still doing well, never complains!

Received two engines back that I had out for repair, I am happy with the results.  (Guy in VA, did the work).  Had to have a DCS system replaced, and some wiring on a TMCC engine.  Sure wish I had a wire diagram for the board sets!

Weather certainly is hot !  Over a 100 yesterday, and same for today.  We only get 1 or 2 days of that maximum per year!  Looking forward to winter along with Doug.  (Have to start winterizing soon!)

Ray, maybe Chuck from who used to work for Minzels in Denver could help with that engine. (?)

Joe, Glad to see you home!! Sure your family is happy as well!  Good Job!

Chief, Glad you're feeling better.  Think you need a couple of days of rest before it is forced upon you.

Dougdagrump, you should build one of those beds and take it to the club.  Then you guys could turn it into a fund raiser, raffling them off.  Good idea, huh!

Well going to go see what I can get into today.  Take care all and stay healthy!

Aloha from a cool Chicago. Just met a cousin from NYC who was visiting in town. Talked them into seeing the train layout and other goodies at the Museum of Science and Industry.  Chief, I'm glad your'e feeling better. All that good BBQ and train-driving too - wow!   Welcome home, Joe - I've been to the Dayton airpot once - I was actually locked in overnight back in the 80s when my Republic Airlines flight arrived late and a connecting flight didn't leave until the morning. I was the only one in the whole place. SJ, I love your train club videos - and your layout!

Evenin' All.

Chief, Glad it was only a reaction to the meds. Can't imagine how much salt you ate during the "judging". Surprise I'd have been on my way to the ER after that. One of these days I'll come up with a rub or sauce that doesn't have salt as a primary ingredient.

After 9pm and it is still in the 80's, that ain't normal for here. It did peak at 107* this afternoon, looking forward to winter.Grumpy

This afternoon I found the perfect project for a woodworking grampa to make, would loved to have found this before the grandson was born. I'm sure that our daughter and sil would not have been happy with it though because of the size.

Friday went well but the visitors were very light, probably will stay that way for awhile now.
Looked at the new Lionel catalog, saw some nice pieces. Seems like there are some really good pre-order prices out there but I doubt that I'll spring for any.
Tomorrow All !
P.S._Welcome home Joe !

Good evening,

We’ve had a nice Sunday even though the entire family, except me, was a bit under the weather today.  I’m hoping all of them will be back on track tomorrow, but I believe the older son will not be going to school unless he shows significant improvement.  I was able to watch some football this afternoon and I am watching the SNF game now.  It is nice to be back in the US and watch football at its normal time.

Chuck – I am loving this cooler weather.  We are enjoying Ohio very much; this area has a lot to offer.

RT – They haven’t kidnapped me yet.  I hope we have the opportunity to get together soon.

Buckeye – Send me an email next time you’re coming out this way.

Have a great night folks.

Chief, you're a glutten for punishment.  Sounds like you had fun though.  Now get over that rash!

Bracing for another hot day here.  Heading for 104 or higher.  Pool is like bath water.  A few fires yesterday but they got them out fast.  None near me.

Got E mail from repair guy back East about my 4-8-4 with stripped gear.  He doesn't fix those.  Just have to punt now.

No grits today but I had some left over rice with fried eggs.  Not bad.  Also put some salsa on it which made it better.

Bought some Kale the other day recommended in salads by some health food guru.  It was too rough raw.  Like eating sagebrush.  Will try to cook it like other greens.  If that doesn't work will throw it out.  We had collards and stuff like that growing up but we never had kale.  I have learned how to fix eggplant lately and have been enjoying that.

Later,

Ray

Morning.  Sunny, breezy and cooler.  LOW humidity.

Joe, glad you are back and settled.

Rash or whatever is still the same.  No pain or itch.  All under the skin.  Dr's practice was at the bar-b-q cook off.  She looked at it and said reaction.  Go home, take off shoes, take off socks and put feet up.  3 1/2 hours later, I did.  Actually cut my tour of duty off an hour earlier.

As a judge: paced myself as a lot more entries in the contest.

10 plates of ribs

10 plates whole hog [chunks]

10 plates of pork [the normal eastern NC finely chopped]

8 plates of chicken.

Was about to die.  Plop plop fizz fizz.  We all drank three sodas [help relieve] and water during the judging.  1 hour 15 minutes.  Already told them they need two sets of judges next time.  Split up the "judging".

Then I had to drive the train for 3 1/2 hours.

As you can see, the tummy is over full.

Resting today.

OH, I've had the shingles shot.

Have a great week ahead.
