Saturday was just a bad all around as everything went to h--- in a handbasket, but Sunday was much better. They say everyone needs a "happy place" to go to. For me, that place is IMS and I spent a very relaxing enjoyable day watching the second day of qualifying. Good weather, good seats, good crowd and good speed was a recommended recipe for curing what ails you. I hope everyone has a good day. One thing did go right on Saturday as I got an email from my Norwegian soccer friend!

Church festival going on this week end. I usually buy some raffle tickets but haven't seen any yet. Will probably get some today but hate to have to fill them out standing outside. Need to get a rubber stamp for such things.
Ate out again last night with our widower friend. We have really been living high on the hog this week eating out. Probably cook tonight. Our friend is going to a graduation in the bay area next week end and then to another one in Georgia the following week. He has grand kids in both places. I envy anyone who has the health to fly to those kinds of things. I have to make too many preparations for travel so I haven't been in quite a while.

Picked up lots o flowers with the WIFE yesterday. Gonna plant them today then cut grass. Lots o yard work this next week, then tear down a old pavilion and I will build a bigger newer on in June. The one now is only 13x 13 ft. The new one is gonna be 20 X25 foot with a storage enclosure in that of about 6 X 20 feet. So I'll be a busy beaver. Chewin up some wood.

A rare Sunday AM post from me. It was 34 and cloudy this AM as we left for 7:00 mass. Been busy trying to mow grass between rain showers this week . Also a couple little league games to attend. Then there was the Dirt Drags yesterday. Add to the mix a couple of appointments for my Folks..

Yesterday was a trip to the grocery store and start getting the boat ready. The Merc fired right up and is purring like a tiger. Today it is boat claning and weeding. Thanks for the well wishes for my son.

Took Wifey for a nice ride in the country, pretty much following the old Western Maryland out to Thurmont, and a stop in Catoctin Mtn Trains. Picked up a Railking B&O reefer (19th century). Was glad to see that the store had lots of customers while I was there. Came home and set up a loop of the Atlas/Trainman track I got at YORK, on the pool table, and just ran my Generals and related equipment all night, while sipping Franzia. Wifey even came down and commented on the simplistic beauty of my new collection. Less, sometimes, really is more.
Hudson - John"son" will do fine.

We went to Sunday school and church this morning. The afternoon was quiet and I even enjoyed a quick nap. This evening I have spent some time researching French cooking classes and D-Day tours for when the wife and I travel to Paris this November. We don't have any other plans for the evening.

Had a call from my sister in Florida this morning. She is doing good with the new choppers and says she is learning how to eat with them. Says she is gaining weight now so has to be careful.
All quiet here on the home front. Wife had a good week and so did we all. We ate out on these last few hot days twice and got take out food last night.
Got the new TCA quarterly magazine and saw an add for a proto 1 Baldwin AS616 for $150 but it's a plain Jane color. Dark Pennsy I think. Will hold out for the new proto 2 model with DCS in Original Norfolk and Southern livery.
Doug not a grump. Hope the fires are dying down some. We've already had ours close to home. Earlier this year we had the foothills near me go up in smoke. They are starting to green up a little since the small amount of rain we had earlier this year but the authorities are keeping the K Rail barriers in place until the hills reestablish themselves to prevent mud slide damage in case of rain.
Went to Costco yesterday and it was about 100 in the parking lot. Felt pretty uncomfotable. Of course, I couldn't remember which lane I parked in so had to look for a while. Duh! Next time I will leave a trail of popcorn or something.
Still missing my MTH Santa Fe 4-8-4 with the stripped gear. A friend has it trying to get a new part or make one but it may take a long time. I can't complain because he is doing it gratis and it's the only game in town. Local hobby shop and even MTH no longer has the part. I did see a proto 2 used one advertised in the TCA paper for $700. Too high for the age.
Laz, to answer your Big Boy question from a few days ago, it is now back in Cheyenne, Wyoming where it will be completely restored over the next 3-5 years.

The baseball game did not happen this morning. Somehow the opposing team's coach misread the schedule and only one of his players showed up. I used the time to have a practice since the team was already there. I spent the afternoon reading and preparing a Sunday school lesson. This evening we had a going-away dinner for one of our neighbors; they depart on Thursday. It's time to relax now.
Hudson John - Congratulations to your son! I hope the background segment goes smoothly.
Brent - I'm sorry for the loss of your cat.
Don B. - I'm glad your doctor's appointment went so well. I hope the graduation situation works out.

On my side of the fence, have pretty good news. I went to a retirement party for one of the engineers at Knott's, it was great seeing everyone. One of the guys had some T-Shirts made for everyone which had the GT&CRR logo on them, with a caption of "Steam Crew". (GT&CRR = Ghost Town and Calico Railroad). The shirts are well done and look great.
I had a Dr appt this am, and it went great. Dr. indicated bone growth really doing well and the cage WILL come off on Thursday the 22nd. Then will have a light weight cast put on, that will be below the knee and down to the foot. He then indicated still need to be careful, but can begin weight bearing. Gradual of course, but a beginning. Will probabaly have the cast for 6-8 weeks dependent upon bone growth. He did indicate he wanted to proceed cautiously to ensure that we do not have a repeat. I'm Happy!!
Now have a logistics problem for you all. Tomorrow is Chris' graduation so here is the issue;
- CSUF is graduating 10,000 people this week-end, 5k on Sat., and 5k on Sunday.
- Each student has been given 8 tickets, and TWO parking passes, and there MUST be a minimum of 3 persons in each vehicle to park on campus.
- The campus is approximately one square mile, located at the junction of two major freeways, in downtown Fullerton.
- The ceremony begins at 8 am, recommended that guests arrive NLT 7:30 am, graduates must be there prior to 7.
OUR SCENERIO:
- Our group will consist of Kay and I, Grandma & Grandpa, 1 nephew (lives nearby), and Godparent with spouse, coming from Irvine. (Approx 40 miles away. IF they go directly to the University Area as opposed to our house it would be10-15 miles closer for them).
- As a result, we have 3 cars converging on the area, 2 two of which have 2 persons in each. To enter campus maximum 2 cars, minimum 3 persons each. (Note: Neighborhood parking not permitted at the risk of being towed.)
CONCERNS:
- Congestion, Assuming 5,000 students each given 2 parking passes, says 10,000 cars! Campus occupies 1 sq mile, perimeter consists of 2 major streets, 1 small street, and 1 freeway, (no access). Can't conceive how that will work!
- Ceremony starts at 8, people told to arrive by 7:30. (People here plan on last minute arrival, further antagonizing situation.
VARIATIONS:
- Kay wants everyone to go for lunch afterwards at a restaurant near our house afterwards.
- Chris wants to "hang" around Campus for a couple of hours after ceremony.
- Irvine couple needs to be in Oceanside by 3 pm. (90 miles south)
RISKS:
- As it is now, Chris will be stranded at CSUF without any transportation, Irvine people will NEVER make it to their afternoon commitment, lunch will probably be from 1pm to 7pm to accommodate everyone.
I give up I'm going to bed!! Will be fun!!!

Rich -- great news on the new ride, sorry I'm bit late to the party. You will LOVE that bike, great punch off the line, smooth shifting and a motor that won't leave you on the side of the road. Get that smile off your face I would hope that someday you and I can take a ride together, tick tock tick tock. For me that clock is running faster and I'm working on my priorities.

Afternoon Fellas...I'm a bit out of sorts today... this morning TheQ's cat passed away very unexpectedly. She had just been given a clean bill of health last month by the vet, although the past few days she hadn't been acting normal. It was quite the shock, and not an experience I ever want to go through again.Not looking forward to explaining this to Christina. I did get some very good advise from friends on FB, thank you all.Hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.

I used a day of leave today so I could stay home with the youngest child. The wife and two of her friends went to Tokyo for the day and are spending the night there. We have a baseball game tomorrow morning and hopefully our winning streak will continue. We are 4-0 so far.
I hope you California boys stay safe and those fires die out.

Things seem to be winding down tonight. During the day it was a bit questionable, the Santa Anna Winds(from the East) diminished and then started blowing from the West. One of the fires, Cocos, which had been moving pretty much west and southwest changed direction and started moving east. It was at the edge of Escondido at nitefall and appeared to "laying down" a bit with cooler temps and higher humidity. There are still a lot of evacuees spending the nite at several of the local high schools since all of the school districts, as well as the colleges in the county are closed til monday. It appears that they may have caught several dirt bags attempting to start fires.
to all the fire crews who worked their butts off during this really hectic time. We had so many fires popping up that the initial crews had difficulty keeping up with them all and were stretched a little thin, last nite more "mutual aid crews" were arriving from all over which really helped. Something that also helped, as a result of the "Witch Creek Fire" of 2007, was the integration of a uniform communication & training system so 12 helos from the Marine Corps were put to use making water drops.
We canceled the monthly club meeting tonite due to so many of the members being impacted by the fires.
Wonder what happened to the "Super Scooper" from Canada that was so great in previous fires here. Unfortunately the DC-10 used for chemical drops was down for maintenance.
Big pot of Sunday Gravey with Sweet Sausage and a big bag of Penne pasta for lunch tomorrow.

Cool and drizzly in Indiana. Still had plenty of practice at IMS today. Work was meeting day today. Only one of the 3 hours was usefully spent. Was supposed to start outdoor locals soccer games tonight, but only 3 people showed. No game. I hope everyone has a good day.

Jon - you'll be happy to know I picked up the Road Star. WOW!!! The ride is very different than the
Sportster, and there is a small learning curve. It really has legs, in 4th gear I can cruise in the power
band and in 5th, it's like at idle - at 65!! Very pleased so far. Put 200 miles on it in 1 weekend.
The Reliant now runs. Found the oil pump, which drives the distributor, was cracked, hence no oil
pressure and the jumping in time. Drove it out of the shop. Need to get axles, tires and some brake work,
then should be ok to go. Time is ticking as the Princess comes in Monday.

Aloha. Grey and rainy. Today is grocery day - I go early after dropping off the youngest and his mates at school. The bride made a nice bday dinner for us and we had ice cream sundaes for dessert. I will be reading my new toy train and modeling magazines on my train commute next week.
