Mornin' Fellas

There is a lot to be said for not rushing projects to completion without having first fully tested them... I'm so tired of having to deal with issues on the most important processing day of the month!

Fife - yeah Friday just felt weird. Like I wasn't where I was supposed to be doing what I was supposed to be doing with the people I was supposed to be doing it with. Sad

We are hoping the Japan thing comes through, but we won't know for months. You know how people are... they hear something they are really interested in, they meet with the presenter, then get back to the office, meet with their boss, and reality sets in.

HudsonJohn - Big Congratulations on the grand daughter! YesYes

Can't remember what else I was going to say... other than I'm glad these storms are over with for now. The amount of water was impressive for a non-tropical event.

Morning.  Returned from my Mayor's Prayer Breakfast [National Day of Prayer is today].  Nice crowd.  Sun coming out after all these storms.

This afternoon at 4:30 I go to Golden Corral to serve drinks in the order line and collect money for Camp Corral [camp for disabled vets kids].

Hope all have a great day.

Frank -- is that nation wide for Golden Corral or just for your local store?  I'm doing a smoked pork loin for tonight but I might just ride over to the Golden Corral and make a contribution, great idea!

Ready for some sun shine, we've had rain daily since Sunday and hopefully this is the last day.  We did not get the heavy rains like you did and that's a good thing.  Most farm fields have been prepped now we need some warm temps for those seeds to germinate.  We are thankful for the rain though as it was getting dry.

Sure been thinking of Don B., what a long, tough journey this has been for him.  Hang in there Don!

Good morning all,

I guess this is what they call May Day.  Not to be confused with emergency signal.

It has really been hot for the last couple of days.  Still hot today with mid nineties predicted.  The desert winds blew like heck for the last two days.  My pool is full of dirt.  Need to vacumn soon when it stops blowing.

The U.P. Big Boy is gone from our area now and is somewhere between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City.  The steam crew likes to ride on top of the tender.  Looks pretty hot to me.

My friend Larry called this morning to remind me that some WWII war bird bombers were taking off from local airport after spending some time here but it was too late for me to get over there.  They had a B-17, a B-24 and a P51 Mustang.  I have seen them before but sorry I missed them.  They were giving people rides lately for $.

Train meet coming up Sunday at TTOS in Arcadia.  Will go if I can.

later,

Ray

Aloha and a Happy May Day to you all. It is a rainy day today - an upgrade from yesterday's misty weather - it was raining at all the wrong times of course - whenever I was outside in it. Now I think it is drying off.

Charlie, I can't believe there will be ice on the big lakes that late in the year but I can believe - a team of friends when up to Newberry to open the camp I go to up there and they had to plow through lots of snow.

Ray, those aircraft were in Illinois last spring. It was fun to see them fly overhead. I missed their tour day but got to see the B-17 take off. Just like in the movies.  I've been following the Big Boy by the photos posted online.

Fife, I saw photos of that collapse - slid right onto the tracks  - between that and the oil train blowing up in Lynchburg, it's not the greatest day for CSX.

Ran Ivor the Engine last night for a bit. He was happy to get some exercise.

They also had a derailment in Bowie, MD a few coal cars I believe.

Good Afternoon,

All is well here, given a little hot weather.  It was 84 on our patio at 9pm last night.  Today its about 96 out there.  So hasn't had to much of an impact on my day, doing pretty much the normal stuff.  (Sitting around with my leg elevated.)  Did manage to get out and get a haircut today, sure feels a lot better.

Doug, Glad to hear you got some train time.  So what kinda of plans do you have for your layout, now that the youngest is getting older?  Obviously, you can continue with the development of the Thomas theme in anticipation of the grandkids. Confused

Train meet coming up Sunday at TTOS in Arcadia.  Will go if I can.

Ray, Hopefully will see you on Sunday.  Bob wants to go up there I know, he wants to go by the Whistle Stop in Pasadena to see if they can repair an operating culvert loader for him.  Will probably go there first and they open at 11, then to the train meet.  So we would probably get to the train meet about noon or so.  Hope to see you there!  (BTW, I will be the one in the wheel chair with the cage on my leg.)Confused

Hope everyone survives all the storms and bad weather running through the country.

So till later, Take Care and Stay Healthy !

Evenin'  fellas and gals;   The weather here  is just swello.   The Sparta libeery has it's anniversary today It was founded  in 1841, a few years before i was born.  As a new added attraction, it has obtained a 3D  gadget that makes things in 3D which is available to the public.   Well the first thing it created in 3D was the Tardis machine!   Holy moly gondoli!  I thought that was our secret. What's this world comin' to?    Now what;  the next thing you know they'll be tellin' me is that people have landed on the moon!        later.

Good evening all,

Got my timing gear today for the Mini on Saturday.   While I was there, I saw a video of the course.  Just hope I can finish.  Work was busy and draining today, but almost all caught up on case reports.  Should do that tomorrow and be able to wind down early before Saturday hits.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Evening! 63 and some Showers. Local flooding all over NJ.

Spending the Evening at Mom's. Took here car shopping today. At 85 this is the first car she ever picked out herself. She bought a Ford Focus Hatchback and she is like a teenager that just got her license. Worked on  my layout at Mom's which I call the Branchline.

My daughter Michele and our Granddaughter Kali aka Baby Hudson are home and doing well. Hmm, I wonder where Doray is? lol

My son John, aka Johnsson (Thanks Laz, I love the nickname) got his Civil Service Scores from the recent police test he took. He scored a 98.38. Proud of both of my kids. Our town is hiring 5 new officers next month. Wish him luck.

Doray is doing well with her knee replacements. The Ice Cream Shop is picking up.

Chief: That is a great thing that you are involved with at the Golden Corral. I hope it was a great success.

Don: Glad to here that you are making the train meet and getting around.

Doug / Ray: I love the sound of those B-17, B-24 and all of those vintage aircraft. My favorite job working at the Electric Company was going to Linden Airport where a Vintage Military Aircraft Club had it's planes.

Mike: Good Luck with the Mini.

Traindood: What Moon Landing??? LOL

Enjoy the Evening!

John

Hello all

Back home as of Wed night. Thurs was a nice warm day in the Ol' Pueblo.

4dr was brought out of its weekly slumber, scorpion has been fed, and even made it to the mailing place to pick up a few items and drop something off.

Jensen steam engine arrived today. Needs a good cleaning and a few minor parts, but it looks like it will do the trick. Was wondering if it was going to be too small for the project I had in mind. After I unwrapped it I had a bit of a Roy Scheider moment, 'we need a bigger boat'. Being too small will not be a problem:)

Continued work on the Corvan this weekend and I may finally downsize the storage unit.

Also got the other tin airship in today. The Naval Air Station is coming right alongSmile, Wink & Grin

Morning.  Just did two miles with the elementary school.  Friday is Walk Club there.  Sunny and real warm.  Servicing mower and then mowing.  Headed to the lake house afterwards to open things up, service mower and mow.

Jon, I think it is nation wide as Golden Corral sponsors it for all vets' kids but primarily kids of disabled and fallen soldiers.  I know it is NC wide.  I think the campaign goes on till June 1.  I know I am working on another night to include Roseyville PD and FD.  PD wimped out and I did not know. Angry Informed the Chief and Captain that they would be volunteering next shift.  Devil  Great thing GC is doing.

NW J is headed from VA Transportation Museum to Spencer Shops for a rebuild.  NS spending millions to restore.  Will be seen at the 29th thru 1st showing of F and P units being gathered there.  Come to NC and see.  Proud of NS and others building heritage units and rebuilding old steamers.

Have a great day.

Aloha. I saw the sun briefly yesterday so I know it's there but it's gone again today. Boy, I would welcome 80s and even 90s. It's 44 today. And it's May.

DonB, glad you are getting out and around. I still love this theme - Thomas is so recognizable - when he finally strips his gears, I look forward to getting the new version - though I don't run 18v to the track.  Ivor - who I created out of Percy as he is also an 0-4-0 - is less well known - but the videos of his TV show are out there too.
Mike C, you will do great in the race! You are ready!
Traindood, I love that they chose the TARDIS - those 3D maker machines will transform the hobby! Imagine being able to make a 3D resin model of just about anything you needed! They're getting the design software to be easier and easier to use.
Chief, thanks for the heads-up about Golden Corral. I'll go this weekend.
Bob, you'll have a regular Lakehurst NAS with all your airships. The Jensen engine looks neat! (I found photos online).
V8, I like that phrase - though hasn't it kind of always been like that? Most participants in the hobby are 45+ Of course, as the boomer generation moves on, it is impacting all sorts of hobbies.

Big Train Days here in Orlando! ......SunRail (Commuter Train) has arrived.

The debut yesterday drew 10,000 causing delays over the 31.5 mile route from DeBary in Volusia County to Sand Lake Road in Orange County.

I suspect that a good number of those riding were just trying it out. (Free rides until May 19)

Each car is designed to comfortably seat 300 passengers.

Here's hoping that once the "smoke clears" it will be a success.  We'll see!!!!!

Mowed two neighbors' grass [for free as usual] and then mine.

Off to the lake house.  Leaving later than planned [as usual]. Bang Head

May not be back until Sunday.  Something at one elementary tomorrow but Rolesville has to take a back seat sometime.

On another forum under The Aging of the Hobby Martin H said that York looks like God's Waiting Room.

Dennis, it looks the same way at Dixieland Jazz Festivals.

Chief, re NS spending millions to restore 611?  I thought it was being done with donations although NS did make a large donation so maybe that's what you meant.

Went to see tax lady again for third time today.  IRS denied our request for information until August 1st so will not complete my 2013 taxes until then but we have an extension.

Wife went to G.I. doctor yesterday.  They want to do an indoscopy next Thursday at the hospital.  She has had a lymphoma in the abdomen for several years that has not grown any but they want to take a look just in case.  She has lost some weight lately which is worrisome.

My two cancer surviving sisters in Virginia and North Carolina are still holding their own.  Both are taking treatments.  Seems like the whole family is down with something.  Getting older is no fun.

Need to decide on a good place to order a new MTH AS616 NS diesel from the new catalog.  Don't want to miss this one.

Been too hot in garage to run trains this week.

Good morning all,

Got word yesterday that my MTH SP Black Widow F units have been repaired at the shop and are ready for pick up.  Probably can't get over there until next week but glad to hear they are fixed.  One of my favorites.

#2 son left this morning enroute to San Jose and will see a car race in Monterey this week end.

Got invite to dinner tonight and son took us out last night so we are in good shape for not cooking today.

May try to make TTOS train meet in Arcadia tomorrow and or the hobby shop to pick up my SP engine.

Big Boy was in Salt Lake City at the last report I had.  I noticed in some pictures that the steam crew has given up riding on top of the tender.  I guess a couple of days of that desert son made believers out of them.

A little cooler today and tapering off in next few days.

Aloha and Happy Free Comic Book Day to you all. Go MikeC Go! Praying for your family, Ray. HudsonJohn, I ended up turning off just about every high tech gadget on my MiL's newest ride. She is much happier. Had a pleasant night out last night with the bride - visited a new restaurant in town - ate too much, then watched Stuart Little with the youngest. Took him today to a local comic book store to get a free comic. Like all tweens, he was less than enthused but provided me with proper cover, and I bribed him with pizza afterwards. We're going to begin going to church Sun. morn again instead of Sat. night. I think that'll give me more time with the trains. Smile

Howdy All.

Still hotter than heck here, waiting for some cooling. Was up in Temecula on Wednesday during the Rancho Cucamonga fire, between the heat and the smoke I know how a pork butt in a smoker feels. Chef

Been eating to much of the wrong foods this week, family from out of town visiting. Weight has been slowly increasing as well as BP, need to get back to normal diet. Crying

Great day at the museum yesterday, no gremlins made their presence known.

Laz, Thanks for the lead on my search but no luck. The hunt resumes.

Later all !
