HAPPY BIRTHDAY COFFEE POT.

APRIL 1 is the date it was originally started.  Happy B-Day Cake Drinks

Started it early as I have a meeting to attend.  Figured someone might jump the gun and not wait for me to get home.  Felt it right for me start the new birthday one.

Chears.

D. Baker, I have a hard time figuring out what some of you senior members have been up to.  A lot of that stuff probably just went right over my head.

What about Chief and Buckeye being related?  Is that just another vicious rumor?

Ray,

The "Dusenberg" goes back to early times when Buckeye would report on taking "Dusey" to parades and special events.  Chuck was always talking about polishing it and riding in it.  Chief always saying it wasn't rightly his.

Now you always here the Chief and Buckeye talking about the good ol days when they started this thread, and go on. and on. and  on.  And would originally refer to each other as brothers, I was a little suspicious about that, and did some checking,  I'm sure they are not brothers, but more like cousins.  I'm not sure whether it is 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.  I'm sure Chuck would know.,

Dear Grandpa Chief,

I'm almost done with college and would like to come home and take your place as Mayor of Roseyville.   If you are not finished being mayor, maybe you get me a job keeping the second set of books for you.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the new train store you are building.  A 4000 sq ft model train store should be considered for a feature article in CTT.

I was just over to Chuck's place today.  He is one great guy to show me his weather making equipment.  I don't know how he stands the noise from the oil derrick in his back yard.  Needless to say, everyone in town calls him "sir" these days.  When we went to the bank in the Bentley, everyone waved and yelled at him.

Life is good.  I just wish Buckeye would stop parking in the "Grounds Keeper's" parking spot when he drives here in his Rolls Royce. Buckeye almost scratched Baba's Cadillac.

Good evening all,

Did a 10 practice walk/ jog tonight for the mini-marathon in May.   Did the distance in 2 hours 37 minutes so I should be ok for May.   Body feels like junk right now.   Work was lousy today and looks to get worse the rest of the week.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Sunny and about 70 today. Stopped by the LHS last Saturday and bought a box full of parts that featured prewar 225 and 226E shells. I sorted through the box tonight and discovered that there are just about enough parts to put together a complete 226E. Looking at the parts, I'm going to take a guess that the 226E had taken a header, as the steam chest is a later casting that includes a cast in front coupler. The two mounting screw holes do not go all the way through on that casting. Probably the biggest problem is that one of the front drivers has a broken flange. It also needs a few odds and ends like hand rails, and valve gear linkage. It is going to be fun project to get it back together and running. All for now.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

I ran out of time to post yesterday.  I had a long day at the office and then went to bed early.  Today was a bit less hectic but still busy enough.  I think the rest of the week will be pretty busy as well.  I grilled bratwurst for dinner tonight; they are always tasty.

Mike C. – Nice job on the practice run/walk.  It seems you’re on track for May.

8N – Hopefully you’ll be able to share photos of your 226E project.

Kevin – I saw your post on your layout.  It’s looking great.  Thanks for sharing.  The one house we’d like to rent in Dayton, OH (where we will move to in about three months) has a nice sized basement that the wife already bequeathed to me.  I am excited about building a layout there.

Hello all

A somewhat quiet night on the mountain. We have more visitors in the telescope. High winds are predicted today w/ a chance of rain on Wed.

8N - the 226 project sounds good. Just love a challenge!

I may clean the AF track after I get off shift. Would be fun to run the loco on a loop. Hopefully will return it to the director this week.

Aloha. Sunny but cooooold today.  Ray, I was listening to some Cullum jazz I found online - wow he can really play that coronet! What a great sound.  So happy Joe will get a basement when he moves to Ohio. Looks like a busy day.  MikeC, you are really doing well - I am impressed with your time. 8n, that 226 project sounds like fun.

Good morning from the RR Museum of PA. Been open for over an hour and as yet no visitors have found their way into my corner. It is a beautiful day which is appreciated after a weekend with 2.6" of rain. Just watched the restoration crew pull the drawbar on an old wooden coach so the Amish carpenters can rebuild the open platform which has been sagging badly. Thought I better log in to let the chief know I'm still kicking.

Hope everyone has a great April Fools Day.

Good morning all,

I developed a DCS problem yesterday while running the trains.  I think an electronic part has gone bad in one of two powered units on a MTH A-B-A set proto 2 engine.  The two A units are powered and the B unit is a dummy.  The trailing unit is stuck in reverse position and only in conventional mode.  When you apply power to the track the master or lead unit just sits in neutral as it should waiting to be started by DCS.  However the trailing or slave unit takes off like a shot in reverse.  I posed the problem on a DCS forum and the opinions I got think that it is a failed slave unit board.  I have been thinking about contacting the local authorized MTH repair place and see if they can fix it.  I would like to know if they can get parts before I drive 70 miles round trip though.  There is a repair man on the East Coast who will test the old part and replace if I could get the old one out and send it to him.  However, it does take some soldering skills to remove and replace the old one I am told and I am lacking in that skill.  Meanwhile, the Master A unit and B unit still work fine and respond to all DCS commands so I could still just run that If I desire.

Happy birthday to the coffee pot!Happy B-DayHappy B-Day

Got a little sprinkle of rain last night but we'll take it.  The burned hills above us are beginning to show patches of green again.

later,

Ray

Good Afternoon! 46 and Sunny! Going to 54 today!

Got back a little while ago with Doray from a follow up with her surgeon. She will need more PT with her knees. The Doc said she is pushing herself too much. Itching for York!

Buckeye: I liked the "Grandpa Chief" letter! YesLaugh

Chuck: Looks like you better Cone off Baba's Caddy! Laugh

Mike: Good Luck training for the Marathon.

8N: The 226E sounds like a great project.

Joe D: You now have a place for the layout! GREAT!

Bob: Enjoy running the AF Loco tonight.

SJ: Think York and Ice Cream!

Doug M: Enjoy the Sun!

David: Glad to see you posting!

John F: I will be heading out to the "Museums" as soon as things slow down around here. Hope to see you at breakfast at York.

Chief: With this weather we have been having a little too early to turn on the outside water for the flower beds and lawn. I agree with you about NJ's Governor.

V8: Too bad we can't send you some of the water from here. We had plenty of rain and snow over the winter.

Enjoy the Day!

John

Afternoon Fellas

9 years ago today I met the most wonderful lady I have ever known. My life was forever changed that day. I may joke about TheQ, but rest assured, she is by far and away the best thing that has ever happened to me. Love her more and more each day.

Brent - Nice!!

MIA for a while, been under the weather.  Lost 15Lbs the last 2.5 weeks.  Not fun.

Missed John and Ray at the Edison show by minutes....Left my 2026 in pieces with Rem

the Train Doctor and within 6 months to a year, I'll have a 2026 with TMCC sound and fan smoke.

It's going to be his project and hopefully will see it on his web site.

I did pick up 15 - 40 inch Gargarves straights for $15.

Not much else, looking for bikes and houses.....lol someday....

Tired!!!!  Raked, loaded and hauled pine straw from a friend's in Raleigh to Roseyville.  Then put it around all the beds of flowers/shrubs the Wifey has.  Worked in SHORT sleeves. Cool  Headed early to the lake house with Grady to do leaves [yes, never done] and yard there.  Back tomorrow night.

Stopped at a convenience store in Raleigh.  Got a "Big Gulp" Diet Pepsi.  Had 3/4 left in truck.  Went and got it.  Added ice and spilled some Knob Creek in it.  I'm going to sit and relax for a change.

Yes John, we have some guys with the art of the English and story telling.  I really think some could write a book or two.

Wifey yelled dinner is ready.

Good evening all,

Cooler and windier today.  Very long day at work.   Thank you for the comments on the practice.   I figured this was a qualifying attempt since the racers take a 10 mile to make the show.   I thought I saw Pat Vidan waving the checkered flag when I finished the run and I was sure I heard Tom Carnegie over the PA system.  (FYI, Pat was a long time flagman at the track and Tom was the announcer at the track for over 50 years.  Both are no longer with us.)  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hello all

A windy night on the mountain. Coming to the end of this shift. Will be happy to be away for a bit. A number of 'interesting' personalities on site.

V8 - printers are an interesting bit of merchandising. They are sold relatively cheaply, like a down payment. And then you pay the real price depending on how much ink you use. Having one that breaks down the colors individually can help keep the cartridge cost a bit lower I think.

Cleaned up the worst of the corrosion from the AF track. I guess the track got wet at some point. Set up a decent loop in the electronics shop after I got off shift and ran the engine around for awhile. Runs very nicely and has that classic Flyer sound and smell. Will try and get it back to my director this weekend. And then I'll prob get the other locomotive and the transformer to work on:)

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

Today was another long day at the office. It didn’t help that I was up late last night and had only four hours of sleep.  It’s not going to get any better as I have to be at work at 0415 tomorrow so we can catch a bus to an off-base firing range.  Our base’s range is under repair so we have to drive about three hours to another range.  It will be a long day for sure but at least I’ll be expending some 5.56 rounds.

SJ – Hopefully I’ll be wearing one of those badges next year too.

David – It’s good to see you posting.  Take care.

Doug M./Hudson John – The basement isn’t completely finished but it will definitely meet my layout needs.  We’ll probably be there for only two to three years, but it will be great to have a regular-sized layout again.

Hudson John – I hope Doray doesn’t have any more setbacks.

Sayonara,

Joe

Aloha. Sunny and much colder today. Supposed to rain later. No doubt needed. Happy anniversary Brent! Joe, my basement is unfinished as well - After we moved in, I painted the floor and walls a light yellow to lighten the space. You can start planning now! Dennis, our own DonB gave me great advice when I was in the market for a new printer.

How wretched can you get?  Against the Astro's,... the Astros?!   I shut it off after it was 6 zip.  They looked like the bunch of washed up has been's that they are.  Psst;  I must admit i was chuckling like a kid in candy store.    later.

Good Morning! 56 and Overcast Down the Jersey Shore!

Made the trip to Babies R Us to pick up a few things. $284 later, this grandparent to be thing is getting expensive! lol I don't mind. Today it is PT for Doray, school and a trip to Mom's, for she has a Doctor's Appt early tomorrow.

Brent: Like me you found a keeper! Congrats

Rich: Get Well!

Chief: The funny thing is the main Legislator who is leading the charge against our Govenor, his Dad was my Scoutmaster back in the early 60's. He was the uncle of a good friend of mine, who was his father figure after his Dad died and volunteered to be the Scoutmaster. His kids were very young at the time. He was a real good guy.

David: Hope you enjoyed your oatmeal. Take care of yourself.

Bob: I dealt with interesting personalities during my career. I can tell you stories forever. lol

Joe D: Enjoy planning the layout. Looking forward to seeing you at York.

Ken: The Yanks really blew it last night. Have they strated working on the Transmission Lines around your neck of the woods going from Pa. to Roseland yet? That was a hot topic when I retired.

Enjoy the Day!
