Aloha. Happy Pi Day! Hope you are having pie to celebrate. Sunny and warm - for one day - then back to freezing with snow overnight tomorrow. Sigh. Daughter and BF and my middle boy are coming home for the weekend - we celebrate St. Patrick's Day in style... Smile I use Chrome here without any problems...  I've cancelled my project to extend Pugh's Farm on the layout - the corrugated (furrowed) cardboard looks decent but I can't find a huge bag of ground foam I was saving for this - it'll begin again once I discover it  - though it might've been used by someone for another project.

Browsers -- I've used Safari and Firefox and have preferred Firefox for quite some time.  I just download Chrome after receiving glowing reports from folks I trust and respect, I hope it works for me.

Spring has arrived in the Heartlands (at least for now) and it just feels wonderful.  We have no snow anywhere except in the far corners of the big mall parking lots.  I do see buds on certain perennials and that always worries me at this time of the year.  The really good news is that I've been able to fire up the smoker twice this week for some awesome eats and tomorrow will bring baby back ribs to the table.

I know I have too many hobbies but smoking meats for the last 18 years has been great fun.  I've assembled some killer recipes over the years and now our two sons have also begun the tradition.  We've been talking about attending the Memphis In May BBQ extravaganza ....  it's only a long day's drive from here, hmmm.

Not much new on the train front, I REALLY need to do some serious track cleaning .........

Good evening all,

Wife's eye checkup went well.  Not much improvement, but no deterioration either.   Dropped off 2 engines at Train Express for repair.  Scored another LEGO building set and picked up some ordering hints for parts.  Got some CDs at Half-Price books, and wife got some movies.  Wife got a new pots and pans set at an outlet store.  She was really happy.  May head to Columbus, Ohio tomorrow to see Sherlock Holmes exhibit at Columbus Science and Industry Museum (COSI?).  Grimm is up next. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Hello all

We got some more snow on the hill today. Looks like it is shaping up to be a quiet evening.

Chief - that is one big pig. Around here a 200# javelina is considered pretty big.

SPRay - how abut Port Hueneme?:)

Found a 1/48 kit of a deuce and a half for the Navy train. This will be the Seabee representation (see Pt. Hueneme above) for the train. Now need to find a flatcar for it.

Work on the little Telechron continues. Apparently is was made to be a timer for a TV set.

Hello there,

Near 60 here today after a high of 25 yesterday.

Spent last evening putting a reman alternator on Mrs' Blazer. It took longer than it should've because I did it in the parking lot at school where it died. Also had to stop and warm up a couple times due to 24 degrees and a stiff breeze.Sad It was noisy for a while but I was holding out for warmer weatherBang Head

There were 820+ at the seafood buffet tonight. It was a bit hectic but Mrs and I kept up with the fish. They had to close the door at 7pm as a few people were still coming in and we were low on everything. Spent the rest of the evening between  the hot tub and online camper shopping with a glass of wine.

Tomorrow is the funeral of Mrs' uncle that passed Wednesday evening.

Bed is calling

Prayers for those in need

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

I’m not sure what happened, but today’s weather was quite warm for this time of year and the high hit the upper-50s.  It looks like tomorrow’s high will be 60 so I guess spring is right around the corner.  The older son and I took a quick trip to an off-base hobby shop about 15 minutes from the base, but unfortunately the shop did not carry any trains.  The shopkeeper told me there was a hobby shop about 30 minutes away that might have O gauge/scale trains but I did not have time to go there today.  The wife is out to dinner and karaoke with some of the neighborhood wives so the kids and I had pizza, wings, root beer floats for dinner and then watched Turbo.  I hope they can fall asleep at their usual time.

Banks – That is a ton of people.  I’m sure you needed the hot tub after that dinner service.

David – The coffee is always on here.  In what branch did you serve?

Sayonara,

Joe

Good Morning all!! It's been awhile since I stop in for a cup of Joe; but I need it today. Both boys up at six after going to bed late last night, and today starts the first day of baseball practice for my oldest son A.J. so it should be interesting. After that time to get the boys Easter pictures, then off to friends house to see how one of them is doing after having a back fusion procedure last Friday. It is 46 and sunny here in Ambler, Pa so it looks like it is going to be a nice one. Maybe I can finally get these Christmas lights down we'll see. Well hope everyone has a great weekend!! -Kevin

Good Morning,

Wife didn't let me go to work at the show with her this am.  So, staying around here, AGAIN!

Yesterday BOB brought over some parts for me to work on.  Last week he brought a Lionel Culvert Loader.  The wires on a micro switch in the beam area were broken off.  So I repaired them and lubed the unit.  When he got here I asked how it was working and he said he broke it trying to replace a roller in the gantry!!!  He broke a spring and has a replacement unit on order!  UGH.

He brought 2 engines yesterday one was a 2-8-8-2 and it had a lense that was missing from a number board.  He purchased a replacement unit. It is held in with one screw, which is behind the grain of wheat light bulb.  In moving the wireing I broke the bulb!! So now have to get that to complete the job.  The other unit is a Lionel GP9, and he said he bought it for $35,(?).  But it wasn't working and was told it has some wires that are not connected.  So after checking it out, (without documentation) found four wires.  Tried to figure where they went got them on and the engine now runs! has Horn! Bell! Dialog! Front and Rear Couplers Work!  BUT no lights!  So going to see if I can find that problem today.

Found/received some kits I'm going to try and put together.  A Wooden windmill, and Old time Gas Station/Country Store.  Should be fun.

That's all from here for now.

Take Care and Stay Healthy!

Chief did you lose the cold yet?

DB - Coffee at 3:45, no wonder you cant sleep, have wine instead.

Aloha. What began as sunny is deteriorating into coldness and greyness. At least the corned beef and cabbage are bubbling away and the Guinness is ready. We'll celebrate as a family tonight. Spent part of the day at the range with possible future SiL banging away with his heritage weapons - some almost 100 years old. It was fun.  Ray, that is quite the awesome pronunciation you have there.

Good evening all,

Nice day trip to Columbus, Ohio.  The Sherlock Holmes exhibit was very nice.  Wife scored some outfits for her American Girl.  Not too much traffic.  Local high school boys' basketball team won regional.  Weather was good today but supposed to be nasty tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Hello all

A bit windy on the hill tonight, but we are open for business. Looking on the weather maps here, looks like a pretty good storm in the south mid west.

That little Telechron clock has been keeping good time  all day.

May work on the directors American Flyer later. Need to fiddle w/ the little fingers on the e-unit again.

Anybody heard from RIJack?

Good night.  Been reclinerizing since 12:15.  Watched some more DVR after 11 PM news and weather.  Was sunny and 73 yesterday.  Low in the high 40's to 50.  Rain coming by noon.  Lots of it over night.  Might be a slight chance of some sleet by Monday AM but then gone.  More rain Monday night and into Tuesday.  It is already WET.

Prayers for D Barker.  His surgery is Monday. [see another thread].

Bob, how much snow do you have up on the "hill"?

Sleep tight.

Konnichiwa and Ohayo Chuck,

We had the usual Sunday morning here.  As predicted, the weather is magnificent and it probably warmed up to the low-60s this afternoon.  I’m sure SJ is a bit jealous. Stick out tongue  The older boy and I broke out the baseball gloves and started getting our arms back into shape for the upcoming season.  We threw for only 30 minutes; fortunately neither one of us was too rusty so it went well.  We might have sore shoulders tomorrow though.  It’s time to catch up on some reading now.

Kevin K. – It’s good to see you post again.  We too will be starting official baseball practice soon.

Chuck – Where in Germany were you?

Hi Rob.

Charlie – You’re making outstanding progress on the basement.  I suppose you have some great motivation to finish. Wink

Joe

Good Morning from Blueberryhill.........

Good Morning,  Joe........ I was stationed at River's Barracks, in the town of Giessen, which was 40 miles north of Frankfurt. I was a surveyor for the 82nd Field Artillery for about 6 months and then became the Jeep driver for the Battery Commander for the remaining 12 months.

It is a cold and windy 30 degrees. Going up to 48 today with sunshine.

Today is an easy day. I have a few chores to do and then I will spend a few hours running trains. Dusting will be needed and relaxing for sure.

The usual breakfast on the dining car.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Good Morning All, It is chilly here in Ambler, Pa about 38. Supposed to have some flurries tonight. Well today the wife, her mom, and sisters went to the Sugarloaf Craft Fair in Oaks, Pa and than some lunch just the girls. After that we have a birthday party for my wife's grandmother, and than home to get the kids ready for school tomorrow. Demay- Baseball went well yesterday for A.J. he did well. Has to work a little on his batting stance; but his field work seemed to be pretty good. Not bad for having had a whole year off. It was nice out yesterday, a bit breezy, and a little chilly when the sun went behind the clouds; but all in all it was a good practice. Good luck to you when you guys start up. Next project for the layout is to separately wire all five switches to a separate power source. Then screw down the fastrack and start some scenery. Progress seems to be growing alittle more than last year. Hope everyone has a good Sunday, and a good start to the week! -Kevin

Don not trying to sound like a mr. know it all or smarty but check the bulbs the reason I say that I received an engine one time the guy said its suppose to have directional lighting but only works one way well after some playing with it I discovered that both of the rear bulbs where burnt out not just one but both I thought that was strange. ( it had 2 in the front and 2 in the rear I just thought that both blown was odd)

RT, I appreciate the advise, no problem!  Found out yesterday what the problem is.  Miswired !  With the various broken wires I thought that since the lights are in the roof, and the wires are relatively long and unprotected, that if someone was taking the shell on and off, it would be easy for them to get broken.  Sure enough, there are three solder posts on the controller board, and the Mars lights, and headlights go to each of those pins, then the bulbs, then the opposite end of the light wire was soldered back to one of the pins.  I'm thinking one of the wires going to the lights needs to be going to a ground, and there wasn't.  And the solder job was not very good either.  Essentially this is how they were connected  ( + -> Bulb -> +).  All three of the lights negative side were pigtailed together and the wire going to ground was missing.  Corrected that and everything works.

Suppose to be very warm here today, probably set a record.  Already nice outside, not a cloud in the sky!  Would like to do something for the wife, see what she feels up to.  Unfortunately there are not any train shows going on, maybe will watch NASCAR with her.

Take care and stay Healthy.
