Hello all

Well a quick trip to town and then back up to the site. I had to help bring up the cryo in one of our trucks that has a stick shift. One of the operators who is over from Kitt Peak has never learned stick (not surprising since she got her license in 2005:). So I got to play driving instructor and also had a chance to give her the mountain safety talk, 4WD explanation, etc.

Hopefully we will be leaving in the next hour or two. Since it is my day off it would be nice to be in Tucson:)

Clawde seemed happy to see me yesterday. Misted the terrarium, filled the water dish, and threw in some new 'roomates'. He came out claws up to see what was going on.

Joe - I got one of those K-line S-2's in SF colors recently. I like it a lot, but need to get it on the rails sometime. And Chief may remember Gettysburg, but Appomattox neverStick out tongue

Well looks like we will be heading home soon. Better sign off here.

Aloha - sunny and 22 which feels quite warm. Hope it lasts! Took the middle boy out to buy clothes for his summer gig at Cedar Point. He's moving up in the amusement park world and will be parking supervisor. Hope he saves the money he'll make...  Charlie, I started painting our unfinished basement ceiling and stopped - even with the lighting, it ended up too dark and I couldn't easily make out all the things I had running down there, but I'm sure your setup is much better.

Just got over a tornado watch and warning for southeast Florida, the warning is supposed to be over but the watch continues for a couple of counties to my north. Winds were at 50 mph out at Lake Okeechobee near the town of Pahokee. Heavy rain is about the worst thing that has happened and a small power outage for 6000 people near Jupiter FL. The storm came in from Ft. Meyers & Naples area and spread out going east. I have been through a couple of hurricanes and these storms were sort of mild compared to a hurricane. So the north is not the only area having severe weather at times. Tomorrow should be sunny and nice, around 75 in the afternoon, but we still have keep the gators at bay.

Good evening all,

Sunny out.  Still cold.  Went grocery shopping with wife tonight.  What normally takes one day took 3 this week.  Still not sure what went wrong.  Got my 500 tickets today in mail.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good afternoon,

Went for the hearing test this morning and they say I have suffered some moderate hearing loss in both ears.  Don't doubt it with all those years riding around in diesel locomotive cabs in run 8.  Will need hearing aid in both ears if I choose and they are not cheap.  However, I'm told that Costco has a good price compared to others.  I think my hearing just improved 20% when I heard the price of hearing aids.  Think I will do without it for a while longer.

Trying to round up train buddies for a get together tonight but not much luck so far.  Only two for sure.

Had a big lunch from Pollo Loco at noon.  Gigantic burrito was more than I could eat.  Now I feel stuffed.  Probably have a late dinner.

My son is off on another adventure this week end to the bay area.  I think he is going to something called "Winter Rail" where guys exchange photos and slides and put on slide shows of things they have railfanned.  He might also take some pictures on Donner Pass while he's up there.

Our local light rail project is coming along well between Pasadena and Azusa/Glendora.  They just put out a notice for the last bridges going up soon.  All the other major ones are done.  Whole project is about half done now.

later,

Ray

Ray -- one year ago, at about this time, I went through an ENT Dr. as I know my hearing is not what it used to be.  He gave a very thorough exam and I had my hearing checked twice with his audiologists, I'm borderline but they did say hearing aids would help.

Without question, COSTCO has the best prices anywhere.  They have their own certified audiologists and can offer you the latest equipment at about half the price of the competition.  When I do make the move to hearing aids I will go to COSTCO.

Off to bed.  Cold rain outside.  Got email from US Airways with their faster web check-in.  Well, been trying for a while.  Doesn't work. Laugh  Probably tomorrow morning [I hope].  The merger is a bunch of crap.

Konnichiwa and Ohayo Chuck,

The temperature dropped a bit today which was nice.  The high was only in the upper-30s.  I took leave today because the wife had a culture club event.  She is downtown Tokyo getting fitted for a traditional kimono.  I’ve been hanging out with the youngest and we’ve had a good time.  We went to the gym for a quick 3-mile run, ran some errands, and had McDonald’s for lunch.  I don’t have any plans for tonight, other than relaxing with the family.

Lee – Be safe.  Those winds can cause some problems.  My in-laws used to live in Naples.  It is a nice place.

Packed and ready to go.  Will head to the airport later.  My understanding is FL. will be fair and a lot warmer. Cool

Frank -- are you at the BP store in Ft. Liquordale  this weekend?  We were there this last January.  If you have any time to kill I would highly recommend the water taxi's for a few hours.  Very relaxing and very reasonable and you get up close to the multi million $$$$$ homes and yachts.

Enjoy the warmth!

Good Afternoon! 36 and overcast. Temps dropping to the 20's with a Wintery Mix.

Doray is out driving today. Second time since her double knee replacement on New Years Eve. She drove herself to the Ice Cream Shop yesterday, worked a few hours and came home hurting. She is gong to PT herself also. We will see how she does. For me it is splitting firewood. Winter is not over and I have a big pile to split.

Charlie, I like the idea for an industrial look. Now it ia all coming together. Train running in July, COOL!

Rich: Devils at Detroit tonight. Good luck with the Reliant.

Doug M: A young guy save his money? One could only wish.

Lee: I think I would rather put up with the snow over gators. lol Up here we get Snow and Hurricanes! The only Gators we have are are made by John Deere.

Joe D: I think your family is going to miss Japan, but great memories will last forever.

SPMan: Good luck with the hearing.

Chief: Hope you are feeling better and safe trip.

Enjoy the Day!

John

Aloha. The mid-20s felt like summer. Sure would like to be in FL, even with those storms. Safe travels, Chief. Glad I didn't take the train into the office today as one hit a pedestrian at rush hour stopping all lines in all directions for (get this) six hours. Hope they clear it up by this evening's rush. At lunchtime, took the college boy to the local pistol range for the first time. Wanted to teach him everything myself.

John, Hope Doray doesn't overdo it, and can rest later today.

Good evening all,

Sunny semi-nice day with temps in 50s.  Nothing really scheduled for the weekend.  Got a lot done at work today, which is not bad considering a)  I did not want to get this morning and b) I did not want to go to work.  I did not have to drive today, which helped.  Speedway has totally hosed qualifying for the 500 this year.  Management has done some pretty stupid things over the years, but this is the dumbest.   To a driver, anyone who has ever driven in the 500 has said the worse experience there is being on the track for the four laps of qualifying.  So what is management's brilliant idea.  Let's have everybody qualify 2 DAYS IN A ROW!!!!????!?!??!?!??!   What idiot came up with that genius idea????  They are having a tough enough time getting 33 cars as it is and now they are making them run twice?????  Genius, pure Genius!  (Tell us, Mike, how do you really feel?)  I would almost think the current group running the show is trying to get out of the Indycar business with how badly fouled up they are thinking.   Ugh!

I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Chief, glad you are having nice weather in Florida.  I went on a fishing trip with my brother several years ago about this time of year down there.  We towed a boat all the way from Virginia and stayed down on the tip of Florida for about a week.  We never got a line wet or put the boat in the water because the weather was so bad.  Even the aligators were hiding in the mud.  Took a site seeing trip though across Southern Florida and drove out to Key West one day.  That trip was the worst fishing trip I ever had exceeded only by the worst hunting trip I ever had but that's another story.

Konnichiwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It is a wonderfully nice day weather-wise today.  The high is in the mid-40s and it is sunny.  The wife and I have an official function to attend tonight so we have spent the better part of the day preparing for it.  I did spend some time finishing up a Sunday school lesson and running a couple of errands.  I hope you all have a great day.

Hudson John – Yes, the family will miss Japan, we’ve had a great time here.  We have about four months to do some last minute travel/sightseeing events.  It’s good to see Doray is moving around more on her own.

SJ – Enjoy the warmth, you can see the light of summer now.

Yes Joe the worst is behind us now. I am hoping that by York time in April we will have enough snow melt that I can find the dog sled. You would have loved this winter here. Second highest snow amount on record for this area. And one of the coldest as well. Minus 15 would have helped you move along on your morning run.

Evening all.  Back from the store.  Slow day but still sold chargers.  Got a lot of bullets [projectiles] and the rest of my needed dies for reloading.  15% discount helps.

Local Hooters breaded wings [hot] back to the room.

Now to watch TV and rest.  No recliner so I will have to couchirze.

Later

PS: forgot.  Cold front came through.  Only go to 75 and sunny today. Whistling

75 degrees sounds heavenly!

We are in north east IA this weekend taking care of grand kids and hearing some of the very best jazz bands in the state.  I can well remember when I first started teaching in the '60's and where today's kids are, unbelievable.  Education is a pretty easy target these days for folks to gang up on but I'm more than amazed at the talent coming out of our schools.  Sure, many kids do fall through the holes but there's still an abundance of great kids doing great things.

Hit 50 today. A beautiful day. Dropping down to 30 and the forecast: SNOW SHOWERS... Last time they said Snow Showers we had 4". lol

A nice lazy day today. Cleaned the fish tanks and just got side tracked with little things. A fire is going and time to just snuggle in and watch TV with Doray. Tomorrow we are going to a trade show for her Ice Cream Shop. GOOD FOOD there. We go every year.

Doug M: Of course Doray over did it. She pushes herself. lol

SPMan, Ray, A Bad day of Fishing is still Better than a Good Day at Work! I know all about traveling just to have the weather put a damper on it. I remember your hunting trip. lol

Chief: Glad that you are selling chargers. I went to a boat show a couple of weeks ago and talking to  friend he said they are selling used boats (because of boats lost with Sandy) but new boats were slow. Better than a couple of years ago but still slow. Waiting for them to open the BPs they are supposed to be building in Atlantic City and Sayreville, NJ. I live exactly in the middle of the 2 store locations. I used to live a stones throw away from the one in Sayreville.

Enjoy the Evening!

Good evening all,

Got my tax forms today.  Worked on both state and federal taxes.  Get a federal refund and owe the state.  Had the tiling people over to refigure the estimate for the shower.   Went to see "300 Rise of the Empire".  Not as good as the first one.  They really messed up the historical timeline.  Used way too much fake blood.  Maybe should have gone to see Mr. Peabody and Sherman.  A good day today.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Mostly cloudy and 43 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Took advantage of the breezy 62 yesterday and ventured down to the boat yard to start Spring commissioning.  Was expecting to start stripping off 3 decades of bottom coat on the keel.  When I opened the companionway, saw a 3 inch layer of ice above the cabin floor. Sigh  Apparently the float got frozen in place, and the weeping toe-rail problem I'd been putting off came back to bite me.  After a few hours of thawing and working, got all the ice out, and pumped out all the water, some by hand, some by bilge pump (surprisingly the batteries sprung to life).  Will have to see how it dries out to really assess the wooden floor.  Had to bring the sails home and unfurl them in the garage.  On the plus side, anodes look good this year...

Still, felt good to be at the yatchet. Pirate

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It’s almost bedtime here and I just finally found a moment to post.  We had Sunday school and church this morning and then a relaxing afternoon.  But before I knew it I was making barbecue pork for dinner and running the princess to and from a church youth activity.  The kids are just about in bed so the wife and I should have a few moments to ourselves soon.

I hope you all are not too tired from losing an hour of sleep.  We don’t change out there so it’s not a concern for me.

SJ – I’ll be hoping for that kind of winter next year.
