Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 38 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Only got a glancing blow of Snohizo yesterday.  Went to the Arbutus VFD for their Christmas meet.  Picked up an extraordinary scratch built water tower for $60, and another Railking 19th century B&O boxcar for the future layout.  They have a spectacular train layout for anyone interested.

Attending a big birthday bash today.

Banks - Gonna try to make 30 years of service, which puts me at 5 of '15.

Morning all.  Sun is out so we will have the Chamber's Christmas Parade this afternoon.  Think it is suppose to be sunny and in the 50 rest of the week.  Did get some work down in the Train Box.  Also cleaned the tracks.

Was at the Christmas party last night.  Lady I had not met before sat next to me at a table.  Told me she was from Maryland.  "Oh a Yankee".  Immediately she informed me she was a REB and her family fought for the Confederacy.  Later found out she was wife of a buddy that does reenactments.  The she told me she was Captain of a mortar group.  Goes to say, one decent person from Maryland. Wink

All yuz giz with kids.  They should be getting really excited.  Ho Ho Ho

Have a great week.

RAY, Flintlock season day after Christmas for 2 weeks.  Hope to get a fat doe then.  My favorite time of year.  You just don't know if the darn gun will go off is half the fun the other half is trying to see some deer.  Not to many people in the woods moving the deer.  Also very cold too.

JOEY D, You'll get em this week.  Good luck.

SpRay the post above me was 12 hours ago come on guys although there are some on Elliott'd Diner that post 4 times a page..

Dennis, since we are at the tail end of the time zones across the country, sometimes our post don't get read by the guys in the East until the next day.

Went to TCA Christmas party yesterday.  Lots of food and trains running.  They had a lot of food left over.  Hope they found a home for it.  Would be a shame to let it go to waste.  They had a drawing for door prizes and also a raffle for which chances were sold.  The grand prize on the raffle was a modern era Lionel NYC Hudson full scale with Rail Chief cars.  I did not win anything........again!  I did get a free hat given to me by my friend RAK who operates the carpet central layout at Cal Stewart.  I didn't deserve it since I did not participate but he remembers my help from the past.  He is a real gentleman.

I'm still mulling over what to do with regard to my sister in Florida's dental problems.  We have a quote from a dentist in the area and I have been waiting for some paper work from her daughter before I commit myself on the bill.  Somebody is dragging their feet on this but this time of year is the wrong time to do all this stuff.

V8 Dennis, glad you reported that Pit bull.  Hope they pick him up.

Going to see a train layout in the neighborhood this afternoon.

Time for church now.

WInd chill was 16 when I climbed the ladder today to hang the Christmas lights over the front porch, placed the golden lighted reindeer and strung more lights throughout the bushes and trees.

Inside the tracks and trains are under the balcony tree and everything works.  Yeah  I need to continue cleaning the layout tracks and pick out the trains to run for the big party.

Everyone have a good week!

Aloha. Sorry about your friend's passing, Buckeye. It's only 12 here and dropping fast. Not fun to move snow around the driveway in it. I remember looking at a seiche on Lake Michigan when I first moved to Chicago. The Weather Service predicted it. It looked like the lake was just rising, rising, rising out of nowhere. Not like a wave at all. It lapped the breakwater and then went down.

Hope that pit bull gets punished!

Good night.  Great Christmas parade today.  A little breezy but was in the 50's with sun.  Eat your hearts out Yanks.  Then took the Wifey shopping.  She rewarded me with a big plate of her home made spaghetti.  This was followed by the Hallmark Channel's new Christmas movie.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It was an extremely wind day today.  That made this morning’s 7-mile run much more challenging, but I still enjoyed it.  The high was in low-50s, but it was in the mid-40s by the time we had flag football practice this evening.  The wind was kicking again and none of the kids wore gloves so their hands were freezing by the time we were finished.  The wife made some tasty beef stew for dinner.

Good morning all,

Had a trying day yesterday.  While at church yesterday my wife said she felt like she was going to faint.  My son and I had to help her out of the service to the car and we went home.  She felt better when we got home but we decided to go to the ER just to be safe and get it checked out.  She was there about three hours while they ran some test.  They ruled out a stroke and said that she looked OK.  Want her to see her regualar doctor this week though.  She has an appointment on Wednesday anyway.

Had to cancell out on the visit to a layout in the area yesterday but will reschedule for later.

I heard that the SD40 diesel and caboose that U.P. is donating to our Pomona Fairground Rail Giants museum is enroute now from Texas.  The Big Boy is suppose to leave when that gets here but don't know if they will wait until after Christmas to make the switch or not.

Dental hygentist appointment tomorrow.

later,

Ray

Aloha. Grey and really cold. Adventured to the post-office this am. It was a zoo but I used the machines they have (no one else was) and it didn't take long. Browsed a few stores for kid gifts. Now heading off to a doc for a visit. Supposed to snow in a few hours. Too cold to shovel. Glad your wife is better, Ray.  Mike, I remember when ND soccer was 2 scholarships and a bunch of walk-ons (back in 1981). We were terrible.

Hey all. Well I should of left the shelf layout the way it was. now I have areas where the engines jump the track ( haven't seen any cars ( passenger 6 wheel truck type) but the engines sure do first tried my PA's then I said well there finicky so I put some GP-9's they did the same thing but worst lol. (other area's also) so now have about 3 areas over 16' of track and 3/4 of it is above the layout and behind the tree so I need to get on the layout and try and figure it out and get between the tree and the wall also Bang HeadAngry

Well looks like when I go on vacation come Saturday I have some work to do to get this all figured out. one area in there its like the GP-9's short outBang Head so have to look at that better may just have to redo the whole layout up there the indoor/outdoor carpet may be causing some of the problems also. Not sure at this point but do know other than some small gaps about 1/16th of an inch between tracks all was working fine but I figured closer together would be better connectivity electrical anyway. I guess thats why they say if it ain't broke don't fix it lol Doug's law kicking in again.

Well hope all had a good day talk to you all later.

Good evening all,

I see where some Roseyville rascal was doing some edits on my posts again.  Probably jealous because a Hoosier team wonConfused  Quiet day at work today.  Finished LEGO factory model tonight.  A little smaller than I expected.  May get another set to expand it.  Did not have to drive today and glad of it as roads were lousy.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Evenin' Dudes & Dudettes.

Great day here today, got a little bit done on a donated T&P MTH Steam engine this morning (runs like a champ). A bit of running around this afternoon, thought I would have to turn on the trucks AC it was so warm out. Whistling

Got a real good buy on a MTH  L&N  Heavy Pacific, guess I'm gonna have to really do some searching for the passenger cars for it. I started looking for the Railking 60' Madisons from 2003 but they seem to be very scarce. Found a few of the add-on pieces but not the set. This will be a tribute set to grampa on my father's side, he was a conductor for the L&N.

Ray, Glad to hear the Mrs was feeling better. Never take a chance, better to be safe then sorry.

RT, Cool wheelchair, bet my Mom would have liked one when she was with us. Angel

Time to get some other things done.

Nite All.

Still having trouble logging into the forum on one of our computers.  Does not matter much, as we've been pretty busy getting ready for last Saturday's Polar Express program at the KATY Depot and working on the 2014 museum displays there.

Chief, this KATY Depot is in Sedalia, Mo.  As well as serving as the KATY depot for Sedalia, it also held the district offices.  Sedalia was also home to the MKT shops.  These shops did maintenance for locomotives, passenger and freight cars.  Some rolling stock was also built here.  The Missouri Pacific also had a large number of shops in Sedalia.  It is unusual that two railroads would construct shops in the same city.  After all of the purchases and mergers, the MKT and MoPac ended up as part of Union Pacific.  The Union Pacific still has signal shops here in Sedalia.

I'll try to post pictures of the museum display in another thread.  Might be a while, as I am having trouble getting pictures to post on the forum from Photobucket.

All for now.

Good night all.  Reclinerizing again.  Great Mayors' Assoc. Christmas party.  Got a thank you plaque. Confused  We sat with the pro gun control ex-Mayor of Morrisville, NC.  I invited her and her husband.  Yes, you can be nice and win friends.  She lost her re-election due to her stand.  The new Mayor did not invite her to attend so I did as Roseyville's guest.

Really warm outside this late [or early].

Going to the lake house by noon or earlier.  Blow and burn leaves.  Back Wed. night.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

The workday was uneventful today which was nice.  The wife made a comfort-style meal for dinner: meatloaf, twice-baked mashed potatoes, and an ice cream cake for dessert.  We’ll spend the rest of the night letting it digest.

8N – Great job on the Polar Express layout!  Thanks for sharing the photos.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Hi GUYZ,

Got about an inch of SNO HI O, nothing big.  Thanks CHUCK.  Started working on my mountain on the layout.  Made the platform for the track going around mountain.  Was really cold outside when I had to cut plywood and upright with the table saw.  Today gonna try and work some foam for mountain sides.  Love this time o year for working on layout.

DOUG M, BEARS got the BEAGLEs on Sunday nite.  Gotta get better on defense they stink.

RT, cool pic LOL!!!

Aloha. Warming up to 20 today! RT, sorry about 'my' law in action on your layout. I was asked to help at our church's Christmas services - there's six of them, with rehearsals and all. That'll be a lot of time but I'm happy to help. Don't have a major layout project this year. 8n, that KATY depot sure looks neat. I found photos online.

Laz, I am excited for Sunday's game. If Da Bears win, then they're third in the wildcard.

Morning fellas and gals;   Great photos Chief!    I posted some news last nite but I don't know if it took. Anyhow, here goes. A record black bear has been taken about a mile from my house. The 829 lb. beast can be seen by going to The Daily Record of N.J.  The biggest one I ever saw walking down my road a few years ago, was 602 lbs.  How do I know?   Fish and Game darted the bear and weighted it.  That fellow was later released in PA.  later.

So jealous of your weather, Dennis.  And Chief.  Traindood, that's a big bear! Speaking of wild critters, The IDNR euthanized a 120 ib cougar about 20 miles from me. They've been extinct here since the 1870s. This one they said was traveling through - probably on his way to Laz's. Smile

Frank, the Big Boy is still at the Pomona Fairground.  They only moved it from the museum on the South end of the parking lot to the North end, a distance of about one mile.  It is sitting there now waiting for the Union Pacific to come and haul it away over the Metrolink track adjacent to the fairgroud.  The U.P. is donating an SD40 diesel and caboose to the museum which they will deliver when they pick up the Big Boy.  Rumors are all over the place about when they will move the Big Boy ranging from Dec. 22nd to sometime in January.  I will let you all know when it finally happens.

Sunny and about 40 today.  Big full moon tonight too.  Quite an impressive moon rise.

Doug - if you are interested in getting the monthly newsletter from the KATY museum here, send me your address via PM and we'll put you on the mailing list.  That goes for the rest of y'all too.

I think those cougars are having a tough time getting to Laz's place.  Last summer there was a state policeman and a pickup truck stopped in the median of I-70 about 40 miles east of Kansas City.  At first glance, it looked like they were looking over the carcas of a deer.  I did a double take when I realized there was a long fuzzy tail and the color of the fur was too light  - they were looking at a cougar that had been hit.

All for now.
