Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It was sunny and a bit cooler today; the high was in the low-50s.  Today was like Friday for me as I will be on leave tomorrow so I can hang out with the youngest while the wife is at a Japanese-American culture club event.  I should be able to work in some train time during the day.  We don’t have anything planned for this evening so perhaps another Christmas movie is in order.

Sayonara,

Joe

CHUCK is the sno cannon set for PA?

CHIEF,  I have met and talked with WILL ALLEN at MARTY Es first annual LEGACY USERS GATHERING or LUG NUT meeting.  Very nice guy and always there to assist you with model trains.  Talked with him for about 30 minutes at the Alexanders diner, just outside the fairgrounds.

Nice Video, Chief - would have liked to seen more of the layout - I agree the fish eye thing was distracting.

Cold and sunny so far today, skipped out on the tree sales yesterday, just too tired.  140 to go.

Should start shopping soon, been too busy with trees and work....part and full time.

Angel for those in need...check back sooest...

have to pay attention to work lol!

Good morning all,  trying to get motivated to put decorations on Christmas tree today.  Son set it up yesterday.  Got call from plumber this morning.  Can't come until tomorrow but no biggie.  It is not an emergency.

Went to our dinner with friends from church last night.  I had the fried shrimp which was real good with fries.  Soup and salad with Mint chocolate chip ice cream for desert.  Got another party tonight and a rumor about a third one.  Also TCA Christmas pot luck on Saturday.

Have WBB GP30 on order but it was back ordered since ll-18-13.  They are checking on it now.  If they can't get it anytime soon, I will cancel and order from another place.

Recently inaugurated passenger train from Norfolk to Richmond, VA. with connections to Washington etc., hit a vehicle at a grade crossing in small town of Waverly Virginia.  Saw it on a West Coast railfan forum.  Didn't know what the big deal was.  Those things happen all the time.  I guess the argument was that they called it a collision in the newspapers.  No fatalities though.  The story interested me because this is the old N&W main line between Norfolk and Petersburg which I remember when I lived back there.  Norfolk has been without passenger service since Amtrak took over until now.  Nearest service was to Newport News.

Hey Joe;    I've often wondered why my total dislike for those Bronx bums runs so deep.  Was it because I couldn't hit, field or run?  Nah... Was it because they wore pinstripes.  Nah...  Was it because they usually beat the Dodgers like a two dollar rented mule?      Yeah, yeah,  that's it!!   Can you imagine how a ten year old kid felt when they moved away? Sigh  That was almost sixty years ago and I still haven't gotten over it!     Now only if the Bronx bums would move, what a sweet dream it would be.  Smile     later.

Aloha. Today's high was 12. You don't want to  know what the low was. Had a busy day. Grocery shopped. Dentist visit. Now some more working for work. That's a nice layout video. Buckeye, what a clever idea!

Our area commuter and freight trains hit vehicles all the time. They try to race around the downed gates to beat the trains or try to pass a train and miss one on the next track.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

I had a nice day off from work today.  I began the day with a fast 4-mile run followed up with some pushups and sit-ups.  The wife had a culture club event so the youngest and I had a good time taking care of some house chores and drawing pictures.  We’re having a family movie night tonight and the movie is The Sound of Music.  The kids have never seen it so we’ll see how it goes.  Tomorrow the older boy and I need to wake up early as we have to travel two hours by bus for our flag football game.

traindood – That seems like a valid reason to me.  Unfortunately for you, I doubt the Yankees will move anytime soon.

V8 – I’m sorry to hear about your dog.  I hope he heals quickly.

I take a walk daily for exercise along with my dogs and Cooper my Border Collie was attacked by a neighbors Pit Bull. Tore his skin off for a 4" square, a horrible looking wound. He is all sown up now and should be alright. It had to hurt terribly but he didn't complain, maybe he was in shock. Cost $668 the owner is a young guy, says he is out of work and has no money but he says he will pay. I doubt it but at least he didn't tell me to get lost.

SoapBox
Please report this to the authorities, I know many dog owners are reluctant to do so in fear that the dog will be put down, but you have a responsibility to report it. That dog is a danger to the people and other animals around it! If the guy says he is out of work, how is he paying for the dog's food?

My sister's FiL was walking his dog and his neighbor's rottie and pit bull got out and attacked him and his dog. The rottie got hit and killed by a young lady driving down the street, but the pit bull got back behind the fence, it was not the first time the dogs got out and attacked someone and their dog. The owner had been cited numerous times, and she had the audacity to scream at the young girl for hitting her dog! Some people are not fit to be animal owners.
SoapBox

Glad you are ok, and it appears your dog will survive. That is the good news.

V8 Dennis, sorry to hear about your dog.  Sorry but I hate Pit Bulls.  If it were up to me I would have them all killed.  At the least, report it for sure.

Went to another Christmas party last night.  Lots of food and conversation.  Got another one at train club tomorrow.  Pot luck!

Got my Christmas tree decorated yesterday and the Fast Track put down for the train.  Had a little trouble with dirty track joints at first even thought I cleaned the track good prior to putting down.  Works good now.  I am running my Lionel General set and an MTH trolley now and then.

TGIF

It has been a long week.  A friend was buried in the hills of West Virginia on Tuesday. Steve was 64.  I met him on July 1, 1985 when I arrived in Cbus.  He is the 7th friend I have lost in the last 13 years. I still miss Larry, Doc, Tom, Bill, Bob and Lloyd.

We had a house fire in the neighborhood.  The husband was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.  Fire apparently started in the garage.  In fact it looks like it started in the engine compartment of their Toyota FJ Cruiser.  The front end of the Toyota is melted. QuestionQuestionQuestionQuestionQuestion

We are breaking records for snow in Ohio.  Central and SW Ohio are covered, but the normal snow belt near Cleveland is running low.  It completely depends on how the wind blows across the lakes.  In Central Ohio our lake effect snows are mainly from Lake Michigan.

Some of you may find this facebook page from the Army Corps interesting concerning the Seiche wave::  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Detroit-District-US-Army-Corps-of-Engineers/144354390916?hc_location=timeline

BTW,  the lock in this photo is five feet wider than the freighter.  5/2 = 2.5' of clearance each side and you have trouble parking your car.  Captain

Good evening all,

Interesting week.  No soccer on Wednesday (wimps LOL).  Probably for the best.  Made up for it sort of on Thursday as antenna managed to pull in Telemundo station and I was able to watch Mexican League "futbol" game.   Whenever there was a score, the announcer did a very long version of "Goaaaaallllll".  Way cool.  Friday took the "saucy wench" to eye specialist for some tests related to her diabetes.  She will have some laser work done next Friday.  Long morning at doctor's but nice lunch at Panera's and a trip to Garfield Park for a train and garden display and some shopping therapy at Barnes and Noble helped.   Scored a copy of Bill Maudlin's Up Front, which I had been looking for for a long time.   I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good night all.  No deer today but lots in packages frozen. Dinner

Dennis and Brent, those dogs would be declared dangerous in Wake Co. [and NC].  That means shut up in a spayed/neutered, penned in certain size pen with top and if take out, muzzled.  Remember, I am on the hearing committee for dangerous dogs.

Sleep tight.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

The kids enjoyed The Sound of Music last night; so much so they watched it again this afternoon.  The older boy and I woke up this morning at 0500 since our flag football game was at another base in Japan.  The bus ride to our flag football game was only about 90 minutes each way.  We played poorly and were pummeled.  Somehow, the kids were still in good spirits.  We were home in time to see the princess’s volleyball game.  Unfortunately, her team lost as well.  The wife and I went out for dinner and did some Christmas shopping for the kids.  It’s time to relax for the rest of the night so this post will be short.

Buckeye – Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

I hope you all have a great Saturday.

Laz, sounds like it is time to declare a season on does.  Place is being overun with them.

Good morning all,  off to TCA Christmas party.  Ate some chocolate mint ice cream last night and had violent reaction this morning.  Acted like a laxative.  Better stay away from that.

Plumber came last night after dark after we waited all day but glad he did.  Turns out that the seal on the john was broken.  Had to unbolt it from the floor, put in new gasket and reseal.  Glad that's over.  The job was worth every penny.

Good evening all,

Strange day.  Went to a craft show and there was hardly anything there.   Went to a local train display and talked to one of the people there.  They said they were short on trains.  By the time I got back with one, they said it was no longer needed so I took them back home. Did get house swept and build some on my LEGO.  Did some follow up work on some orders for wife's Christmas stuff.  May have some luck there.  Re-read the Bill Maudlin book.  Buckeye, my condolences on the loss of your friend.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,
Today has been a splendid Sunday.  We had Sunday school and church in the morning and a wonderfully relaxing afternoon.  While the older two kids were playing and the wife and youngest were napping, I was able to enjoy A Christmas Story.  I’m roasting a chicken and vegetables for dinner while the family watches the recently aired live version of The Sound of Music.
Chuck – Japan could have had one as it experiences earthquakes almost daily.  Usually I only read about the big ones or the ones near Tokyo.  I rarely feel any of them but my wife usually does.  She also has an iPhone app that tells her when one is happening.
Laz – Thanks for the motivational words.  I hope you get that deer soon.
