Good Evening All.

Ray, Condolences to you and your family.

Hope y'all went out and bought up a bunch of incandesant light bulbs today ! Although there is a loophole in the law for some, heavy duty bulbs (garage openers, etc) are exempt. Great, no more plastic bags ! Have you seen the reports on the "re-useable" grocery bags with regards to bacterial development. Ick!

Spent a good part of the day in the kitchen, prepping and cooking for the runners and our spouses at the museum tomorrow. Last year was a Cajun New Year, this year it will be Italian food. Tomorrow will also be the last hurrah for the Christmas Trains, will start putting them away til next year. Sad

Just in case I'm to tired to post tomorrow :

Happy New Year !

Night all, all you guys getting the snow and cold stay warm & safe. Plan on being in bed well before the clock strikes 12.

Remember the Veterans. Past, present and future.

Chuck.....I see a gold mine for us Buckeyes!!!  We need to put on Craig's list that we have used plastic grocery bags for sale for Californians.  Two dozen used bags for $12.00 plus shipping.  We will be California plastic bag smugglers. Thumbs Up  Now if I only can get to Canada to get new gas cans that work.

V8Vega

Thanks to Santa Anna winds 75/44 today, 76/45 tomorrow for the Pasadena Rose Parade.

There is a thread on the Model Railroader forum about TT scale with 30 replies. This is between HO and N and started after WW II and is near dead now. Too small for me, I don't know why I am interested but I am.

I'm much more interested in American OO scale with 3/4" gauge, also near nothing available I have a lot of HO and always have figured I will build a HO layout after my O is partially sceniced but as slow as I work on it and age is creeping up I am beginning to wonder..

I lived in a real small house before and did make a real small HO layout and I still have it in a bedroom but haven't done anything with it for a long time.

My O layout is 174' of track, 13 switches, 118 sq. feet.

Starting tomorrow grocery stores will no longer be able to put your purchases in plastic bags to carry out and home. Your suppose to bring your own bags. I just know I will forget, Oh the joys of living under the Democrat party.

V8, where can I put my disposable underwear now?  Those plastic bags were usefull for a lot of things.  What now, paper?  Then the tree huggers will get mad.  Costco just uses old boxes or sometimes nothing if you don't ask.  I keep an empty box in my trunk when I go there so I just transfer from the cart to the car.  As far as bringing your own bags, sometimes when I do the big grocery shopping I get maybe 10 plastic bags.  Do they expect us to bring 10 cloth bags from home.

I like the Paton part.  I thing Paton was one of the greatest generals and Eisenhower got the credit.

Later.

Frank, Gen. Patton is my favorite WWII  General too.  His boyhood home is here in San Gabriel not too far from me.  The church his family were members of have a statue of him in front of the church.  My sister was a care giver once for an elderly WWII Colonel who knew George Patton.  I enjoyed listening to him talk about Patton.  I had an uncle, now deceased, who served under Patton in North Africa but my uncle was captured in Sicily I think and sat out the rest of the war in a POW camp.

Konbanwa and Ohayo Chuck,

It was a lovely 32 degrees this morning when I walked out the door to go to the gym.  The high hit the low-50s.  My computer issue at work was resolved and I had a productive day.  Today, I received a new Shindaiwa gas leaf blower for the commercial work the family and I did for them a couple of months ago.  It is a nice high-powered model.  The wife and I do not have any plans for the evening and it has been many years since we even made it to midnight.  I have the next two day off from work so I’m sure we’ll de-decorate the house.

I’ll talk to all of you next year.

The best laid plans.......I checked the beer supply, 71 in the garage fridge. But then the wife hands me a grocery list.  Guess I am doomed to go out shopping tomorrow morning before the New Years Eve horde shows up.  And here I was, hoping to be hunkering down at home for the next few days, albeit with a house full of guests tomorrow night.

Oh come on do you really believe you could just stay home and not go out for the next few days when a wife is involved Big Smile

T-minus one day until three consecutive days with single digit temperatures and the snows descend upon me.  I just might have to hunker down and play with my trains until it is safe to venture forth.  :-)  Jack.

Hello all,
We had two days of rain and now it's getting cold. Glad we got the shi* out on Saturday while the ground was still frozen.

Took Mrs to the ortho doc this AM.
Cast is replaced by a brace. She's supposed to wear it except to shower. Doc say according to Xray it's 80% healed. Start Occupational therapy and come back in 3 weeks

Got to run trains for about an hour with the 2 older grand kids today.

Any body know where to find parts diagram for a 254E? I need new brushes and a brush plate. While I'm at it I want to replace the plate on the gear end. It has a lot of slop in the bearing too.

Fife......that'll probably bump up your pension some. Good Luck

Ray.......Condolences to you & your family

Off to drink a glass of wine soak my aching back in the hot tub and then off to bed.

Tomorrows activities include taking my folks for blood work, Mrs to therapy, Mrs & I to back cracker, Mass and then Mrs & I have our private new years eve party that concludes about 10PM as we head to sleep.

I'll take this opportunity to wish everybody   HAPPY NEW YEAR

Prayers for those in need

Good evening all,

Survived the grandkids.  Had to go thru two more engines to get something reliable for O-27.  Problem with Fastrack is now all the engines built will do O-36 or maybe O-31, but smaller than that is questionable anymore.  Terrible news about Michael Schumacher.   I hope he makes it.  Sad to see Andy Granatelli pass away.   He was the last owner of the Novis, which had one of the sweetest sounds ever made by a racing car, and some of the worst luck ever in racing.  Got the latest CTT today.  Looks like a good issue.  Weather is cold here again.  Going shopping and then to a New Year's Eve party with friends.  Ray, also sorry to hear of your loss.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Just a quick splash and go.......preparations for New Years Eve are on the agenda as we have family and friends over for the evening.  An hors duevres and munchies affair, no serious food.  Three days of single digits temperatures arerolling in (daily low).  So we can use the garage and deck as giant refrigerators!!!!!  We encourage folks to bring their children so that they can all be together and celebrate the event.  That works out great as long as the parents keep tabs on their little ones.  Unfortunately, you can always tell which families let their little ones run wild at home without any "guidance."  I will probably have to hide my trains (presently under the tree) and put the remotes where the little ones cannot reach them.    I don't like to be the Grinch but will step in and enforce law and order if the parents don't.  My wif

Jack my father had a cure for that and only had to use it once. he ask said parents to get control of them or it will be time to go well they blew dad off dad told them its time for your family to leave I asked to control them you ignored me so it time all of you to go. ( other families applauded my father as they saw the whole thing and knew he ment what he said he did tell them if you think you can now control your children I will give you another chance they left so that told everyone they couldn't.

Ray sorry for your lost.

Wow never had that happen befor stop posting in the middle of a post to up load some pics to computer and then to photobucket  well was fine there added them to the post here they showed up all fine hit post and every thing from where I stopped to the the end of the post was gone even my signing off to you all well will try again

Did get a couple of pics of the chiefs cabin at the lake all decorated for Christmas

you all have a good night

Evenin' y'all.  Cloudy & 41 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Just got back from visiting my folks up in the WV mountains.  Ate real good.  Checked on my property on the way back, and while walking around my 10 acres, heard the diesel horn of a South Branch Valley RR train.  A nice break in the otherwise silence.

Banks -  Schedule has been revised for Spring of '15.  That'll give me an even 30, at which time I'll hang'em up.

Jack,

I had to do the same thing on Christmas day since my cousins' kids seem to have no discipline whatsoever.  They just run wild and do whatever they want.  All I knew was that I wouldn't be the one paying to replace anything that was damaged.

Konnichiwa and Ohayo Chuck,

I went for a 5-mile run this morning.  It was about 35 degrees when I started and the run was a little harder than usual due to not exercising for about 10 days and eating too much over the holiday.  The workday wasn’t too bad for being off for a week, but I did have a computer issue that prevented me from accomplishing all my tasks.   The issue should be resolved tomorrow.  I did catch some good football games during the day; I knew my Dolphins would let me down.  It’s time to make some dinner now.

SP Ray – I’m sorry for the loss of your niece.  You and your family will be in my prayers.

Sayonara,

Joe

George Patton bought property in South Hamilton Ma. in the late 1920s, and that was the family home when he passed.  His wife continued to live there after his death, and his son became a farmer at the estate after he himself retired from the military.  The family donated a plot dedicated as Patton Park to the town of Hamilton.  There is a tank and artillery pieces there.  The park is about four miles from my home, North and a tad West.   Jack.

Good evening all,

Cloudy and wet today.  Worked on small O-27 layout to have third set of trains for the grandkids tomorrow.  Had to give up on Scout engine as turns were too tight.  Using Alaska tank engine instead.  Runs pretty good.  Not much else going on.  Did watch end of Chargers game.  When I used to care about American football, I did follow them to a certain extent.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Great story Frank about John Mosby. I read something about him in Shelby Foote's Civil War Trilogy.

Kind of neat how he thumbed his nose at the Yankees by denying them the priviledge of accepting his surrender.  As the story goes, he just told everybody to go home and never surrendered his unit.

Went to train layout open house in Pasadena yesterday.  Big layout about 5 ft. X 32 ft.  It ran through a garage to an extension built on the back of the garage.  Lots of animated stuff as well as the trains.  Had carnival rides, oil fields, tank farms and more things than I can think of.  Model airplanes and stuff overhead as well.  A buffet lunch was offered too.  Very nice.

Sad news this morning.  We have just heard that one of our nieces has passed away in New Hampshire.  She was only about 50 something I'm guessing.  Don't know the details yet but I think there will be an autopsy.

later,

Ray
