Brent, prayers for your Dad.  Seems you might be a "chip off the old block".

My issues were because I was tired, rushing, and working alone. This was just him 1. not thinking about the path up the hill (took the shorter, steeper route) 2. someone distracting him 3. him being a bit older than he thinks he is. Had one of my friends, BiL,FiL, or father been working with me one either of the days I hurt myself I wouldn't have done so. Dad actually did as you are taught though, to turn onto your back and make sure you go down feet first, problem was the rock was between where his feet were (downhill) and where his head came down (uphill) and as he slid his head hit the rock.

What drives me nuts about the whole thing is he was doing this to 'save money'. They are having the backyard terraced this Fall and he didn't want to pay the pros to clear out the fallen trees... why? I have no idea - they have the tools and machinery to do it safely... now if I would have been living in the area we would have done it together and not had any issues (when we worked in the backyard we would always take the shallower slope to the house)... in this case "I told you so" is not an appropriate response to his injuries.

Joe and Doug - Dad is doing good. He has all of his memory back except the fall itself. Just sore and tight, which will go away in a week or so. He has a chip out of one of his vertebrae, but that too will heal in about 2 - 3 weeks. He was darned lucky it wasn't worse.

Christina is back to her 'normal' self... 'normal' for a two-year old.

Me - I can hardly talk, am weak, tired, and bit drained of energy. Just have to take it easy the next few days...

Joe - I think I got a LinkedIn request from you... you're the only Air Force guy I know so I accepted... hopefully it was you! LOL!

Morning All!

Been busy!

Lots of leg exercises to do daily, also have a semi- big project been working on.  Have about 230 individual train herald files (jpg) printing each one out on adhesive backed media. Going to put them up in the train room (eventually) near the ceiling.  Each herald is on a 4.5" square.  I print 2 per sheet, then cut to size.

Also, been working on a jig saw puzzle, I am exceptionally slow at those things.  Finally got it together, (with Kay's help) last night!   Puzzle has 750 pieces, ours 749! Bang Head  Sure,  like Pat's idea of making them.  And, my FIL has a scroll saw I could have as well!  (Maybe when I get rid of a cast.)

A good friend of mine sent me some train videos, so been watching them as well. And they dont go out of date.  Need to do a catalog of the library I have.  Would be interesting to see, especially since many times sets are released with many videos bundled together.  Im sure there are many duplicates!  Good idea, but I get distracted and end up just watching them instead!

Bob,  came over 1 night last week, we talked and watched a couple videos of Cass Mtn.  It was nice of him to come by,  especially knowing we wouldnt get out to the train room.  Had a good visit.  He did pose a interesting question, regarding a problem he was having.  Think I will put a new thread up for it.

Don't know of any Dr  appts this week, YET anyway.  May have to schedule a dentist appt., think I may have a infection developing, treating it with Listerine, might be lucky and it goes away.  The VA sent me an appt slip for an appt to have sutures removed.  I appreciate their desire to improve their service, but  this is a little over the top.  Since I don't have any to be removed.

And finally, the most demanding part of my day is keeping Kay busy.  She has an over whelming desire and natural affinity for nurturing and helping.  So maintaining a constant request and needs list is very taxing.

Got to get going, (need to let Kay know the pool needs water.)

Later

Good afternoon all,

Went to the dentist this morning to find out what has been bugging me for the last few days.  It turned out to be a canker sore that my lower partial was hitting.  He put some medication on it and told me to lay off crunchy food for a while.  Feels better now.

We all went out to eat last night and decided to have breakfast for dinner.  I ordered the "Farmer Breakfast".  Well let me tell you, I ain't no farmer.  I couldnt eat it all.  Took some home.  It was a piece of ham with the bone in about as big as my plate plus three eggs, hash browns and a pancake as big as a trash can lid.

Went to TTOS meet yesterday but did not buy anything.  I thought about two items but didn't buy.  One was a Railking Scale AS616 Diesel in C&O paint for $160.  The other was a U.P. Railking Scale RS3 for $150.  Both were proto 2.  Prices seemed low enough but don't know what the engines sold for new.  Need to check it out.

Took me a long time to get on the net this morning.  Had to boot the computer a couple of times.

Brent, hope your dad is OK.

Spent a little time in the train room this morning before it got hot.  Ran my N&W Y6B and ACL E6's.  No pile ups.

later,

Ray

Sunny and mid 90's today.

Finished up the deck repair project this weekend - no more hole from the dead hot tub that we removed.  Used the circular saw, drill, hammer and power screw driver without any injury to person or property.  Now that the decking is done, the next step is to clean it and apply a new finish.  Once that is done, the railings will look shabby, sooo they will probably get replaced.

The tomatoes are finally coming in.  We've been enjoying BLT's, tuna and tomato salads, tomato and cottage cheese, and have a batch of spaghetti sauce going.  Took a fresh picked habinario pepper in to have the cook at the restaurant we usually have Saturday breakfast add into my Colombian breakfast.  Spiced it right up!  The Colombian is a mix of eggs, sausage, onions, potatoes, peppers of several types, ham, bacon, and mushrooms.  These things are so good, I can only stand them once a week.

On the work front, we had a bit of a communication issue over the weekend.  This resulted in a request on my behalf to the I.T. department for a company phone upgrade, so I will be able to read e-mails on my phone.  Goody, goody.

The 3656 cattle car I won on Ebay last week got here.  Gonna need a few parts and some TLC to get going.  The parts needed for this project combines with parts needed for a couple of other projects finally exceeds shipping cost, so I can get an order going.

Prayers for healing and recovery.

All for now.

Hey guys, been MIA, work is long and busy.

Not much on the train front, been looking for places to live...maybe later in the year or first part of next.  Reliant motor is still on the stand, been so busy as can't work on it.  Bike vibrated the shifter off the forward controls and no one knows what parts can fix it.  Been bumming rides since last week.

Princess is back in college, math is an issue, but the rest of the classes seem to be ok with her!!  AND she's driving the soon-to-be-ex's car.....bonus!!!  Papers were sent in last week for the finalization of the divorce so now we wait.

Hemi owners meet in Harrisburg was great, Kipona Festival was interesting and the weather cooperated.

My turn for the Hemi Meet Labor Day 2014.

Firemans Convention this weeked in Wildwood.  I'll be outta here Thursday!!

Morning.  Off to Dr. [yes, another apt.] as a follow up.  Wifey changing to new DR. here in town.  That is one of the reasons she is changing.  This Dr. requires an appointment for every follow up and an prescriptions.  Drive across the County to see her.  I am sticking with her right now as she has "saved" me several times over the years.

Big reception and dinner in Raleigh this evening.  Have to dress up in suit and tie. Indifferent

Rich, congrats on the divorce.  You have been through a lot on this one.  I found it was a relief when mine was final.

8N, glad you are getting tomatoes.  The big rains here hurt my crop bad.  Nothing real big.  Just nice but not the numbers I have usually gotten.  Vines are a mile long but just not as many tomatoes.  Added more and more fertilizer and that helped.  Now peppers are different.  More than usual.

Shake and Bake, get moving.  You are getting lazy just laying around and doing nothing. Whistling

Buckeye had better be quite coming this way.  We will get him this time if he says a peep.

Aloha. Might hit a hotness record today, Thank goodness for a.c. Long church meeting last night. Picked up new The Star Wars comic on the way. Never pre-ordered something like that before but it's based on George Lucas' original notes for the movie which were quite different. Looks like a sold a few old locos too that I have to ship out. Busy but mindless day ahead mostly verifying data in a database. Then have to drag all the brush I cut off the 'half-down' tree over to the spot the tree-people will take it away. That won't be fun in this heat.

8n, like that Columbian breakfast!
Brent, glad your dad seems better.
DonB, what a cool project on the Heralds. I think of you every time my printer acts up 'what would Don do' Smile

Good evening all,

Busy day at work.  Rain delay at high School girls game must have fired them up as they lost 3-1 against a very good team in a class higher than them.  Could have been a winnable game if a couple of plays had gone the other way.  Proud of them.  Rain delay did the opposite to the boys as they were getting pounded at last report.

Another sunny day in the low 90's.  The weather guesser says that the heat is supposed to break in a day or two.

Chief - my few pepper plants are doing better than usual this year too.  The habinairo plants are bearing more peppers than I can possibly use.  Maybe I'll roast them, seed them, then puree them with a little olive oil and garlic.  This makes a great spicer-upper for things like chili or bbq.  'A little dab'l do ya'.

All for now.

A strange summer weather wise. We had plenty of tomatoes for us but few to give away. Cukes and beans did fine. Here we had more rain than usual and cooler summer temps which I think affected the tomatoes, they like it sunny and hot.

Konbanwa,

The busy week continues here and I don't see how I'm going to finish all my required tasks before flying out this Saturday.  I'm sure I'll manage it somehow.  Fortunately, I was able to sneak in a quick three-mile run this morning before the heavy rains came.  The sun eventually came out around noon.  That's it for now.

Brent - Yes, the request was from me.

Doug - Australia is a fun place to visit.  This was the second time I was there; however, the first time was to Darwin which is a different place compared to Canberra.  Either way, I enjoyed both of the trips.  I sent you a LinkedIn request too.  The new Star Wars comic sounds interesting by the way.

SP Ray - That's my kind of breakfast.

SJ - We have a couple more tomatoes to pick and eat before I leave this weekend.  No one else in the house eats them.  I had one at lunch today and it was great.

Joe

Aloha. Probably last sunny and hot day of 2013 here. Spent the evening moving brush - in the dark - so it would be ready for pick-up. Missed the TARDIS. My wife got her first paycheck and it's all screwed up. This is one thing I can't fix for her though.

Spanky, my wife uses her phone as an alarm and never sets it right.
Joe, nice to connect with you on LinkedIn. It must be fascinating to have been all the places you have visited and lived in. The new SW comic is fun - very different.

Good afternoon all,

Turned on the TV this morning and the first thing I see is a replay of 9-11-2001 and all the horror that went with it.  This is not my way to remember it.  I get too angry.  We finally got the guy behind it all but it isn't enough.  It will never be enough.  We will never forget!  Prayers for all the good people who died and for those who died trying to save them.  God bless them.

Afternoon all.  9-11 breakfast at 8 after a 2+ mile walk.  Meetings most of the day followed by a hair cut.  Then Church Wed. night meal.  Walked 4 blocks home.  Waiting for Wifey as she wants to go to Belks at the mall.

Never forget and also Pearl Harbor [which seems to be almost forgotten].

Now the Shake and Bake story gets better.  He went to the dentist yesterday [which he hates].  Big abscessed tooth.   Dentist jerks it out.  Yes, on the left side.  Now we have the left leg in cast, left arm and hand in cast and no eating on the left side for a few days.  Keep on and the whole left side will be a shambles.  What next? Whistling

Have a good one.

Pouring buckets, lighnin' flashin' thunderin' crackin' ricker frickering mess out here...4 tornado warnings, hail to beat the band...oi...calling for it to 'let up' by 12:15am...sheeesh.

Today was a stay indoor kind of day...in the a/c...and another ding thing...you'd think after all the food I et over the past little while, after ding chemo..I'd weigh a wee bit more than 146lbs? Not a chance....

I remember that day...getting a phonecall from a friend of ours who told me that the WTC had been attacked by two planes...then finding out that a number of my former classmates from UWO were there...and died....may they RIP....

Konbanwa (Ohayƍ Chuck),

Things slowed down a bit for me today which was a good thing.  I still have much to do tomorrow before flying out on Saturday, but at least the end is in sight.

Barry – That sounds like our humidity and weather situation.

Doug M. – I only went back 10 years on LinkedIn so my assignments to VA and HI are not on it.  We have been blessed to live in all the places we’ve lived.  That was one of the reasons I joined the Air Force.  I hope the wife’s paycheck issue is fixed.
